I have visited this range a couple of times with my gun club. It is an outdoor range. I had not visited an outdoor range in a very long time. The range has several bays for use. I have not toured the entire range so I can only speak for the area I have visited. I used Bay #1 both times I went. The range is setback off of the road. It is however, easy to find. South River was the first gun range I ever visited. When I decided to buy a firearm I did some training and we went to South River for our shooting day. I've shot in various bays on the backside of the property. I've always felt as safe as a person can feel at a gun range, and I appreciate how well kept the grounds are. I think an outside range feels safer than an indoor range in general. Also, having a variety of set ups available for shooting is fantastic. As long as you adhere to the rules, you can set up almost any course of fire you want. I've always had a positive shooting experience at South River but I wouldn't become a member for many reasons. It's really far from my house. Also, I'm not sure how comfortable they are with Black people. I've visited many times since that first time and sometimes it's uncomfortable the way they watch us. And it's an expensive membership for my level of usage. But if all of the above weren't present, I'd be a regular at South River. Yelp #24 2022 read more

I've been a certified firearms & tactical instructor for more than 20 years and, as one may imagine, I have spent a lot of time on ranges all over the United States. We moved here from Colorado where we were members at the Ben Lomond Gun Club for well over a decade. I've been a member at SRGC for just over a year now. I was worried about finding another club that allows shooting and moving, etc. and allows one to teach these techniques to others but was lucky-enough to find one that is just down the road from my house. I think the facilities are top-notch, with an air conditioned bathroom right in the area we shoot the most in and a very nice clubhouse with everything you need for purchase. A really nice thing when you shoot often with 10 year-old twin daughters. One thing I'd like to address after reading the reviews below is that the rules of the club are very standard rules. There is nothing in them that I find out of the ordinary. After a year of shooting there I have had no issues with anyone. We do a lot of shooting, too, as one can imagine. It's clean, well-maintained and several days a week the check in is just swiping your gate card key. It's perfect for us. read more

The words of his email are: Steven... Given the tone of your messages, I think that you and SRGC need to part company effective today....maybe you can find another gun club that will allow you to tell them how to govern their club, but I doubt it....but more power to you if you do.... Just return your membership and gate access cards to the club via mail and I will refund your total membership fees today, terminate your membership and mail you a check...I believe, given your attitude and tone of this and the previous email, that SRGC will not be a good fit for you... I wish you well in your shooting endeavors elsewhere Bill Clay, Manager SRGC Now tell me whose choice it was to leave the club. If in fact I am welcome at the club, I would rejoin. The range officer and the lady running the club house are wonderful and the positions are well done. The only rule I didn't follow, which isn't on the web page is his requirement that I print out the rules from the website. My simple comment to him was that if he wanted people to print out the rules from the website, he should make them printer friendly on his website. It was a simple suggestion on my part and let to the explosion that resulted in the message above. Mr. Clay put his ego ahead of gaining a paying member who is more focused on safety than he could ever hope to be. To be clear, Mr Clay objection to me in his words were that I was trying to tell him how to run his gun club, when actually I only made a suggestion with regard to the web page. The truth is that the only people welcome in his gun club are those who meet his personal requirements with no consideration of whether that person will safely use the range and pay their dues annually. This is no way to run a business. I have shot at a great number of ranges across the country and the great ones all have a few things in common. They are run like a business that has specific safety requirements. The good ones don't have rules that say they will terminate a membership for cause with no refund of unused dues. The good ones will deny a shooter who is unsafe and will always seek to educate the novice about the rules of safety. South River Gun Club has great potential and the club house staff and the range safety officer I met were wonderful people. This could be a wonderful family oriented place, but under this management, it will only be a place for competitive shooters and the good ol' boy friends of Mr. Clay. Spent the day out there with my work. We had our own targets, etc., but from the looks of it they had everything you needed. I thought the place looked awesome. It's hidden in the hills and trees. It had so many different ranges and set ups. They had themes to some of the ranges and I felt it was unique and would be great to bring a spouse or some kids. One of the best aspects was the fact that we didn't have to do our own police call. Which is huge after spending a day in the heat shooting. I do think they need more bathroom facilities, tho being a guy helped as I just found a tree. read more

Took my son to shoot trap yesterday. This has always been a fun place to shoot and professional atmosphere...however the guy at the counter was very rude. The old man that used to run the place was awesome. The young guy could use a lesson or two in costumer service. Will look elsewhere next time we go shooting. read more

Lots of bays and a good price. The groundskeeper seems a little grumpy, but I'm sure he has to deal with his share of rule benders. The port-a-potties are few and far between. I visit here about once a month and I'm considering a membership here despite the hour-plus drive because it's a great value for the money. read more

Excellent bays for pistol and AR, dug in with high dirt walls. Skeet and trap ranges. 100, 200, 300 yard rifle range. Appx 300 $ per year. Check calendar before going bc many events are done here on weekends. It is appx 45 min to an hour from Atlanta. Located on a beautiful piece of property. Agree with above comment there is a grumpy manager, but I don't really care. read more

There is a lot of value in a Membership. Great facility for training for action shooting sports, such as USPSA, GADPA, Steels, 3-Gun, etc. The have 18 action pits which are virtual private shooting areas when you can set up lots of targets and run and gun if that is your thing. Way different from the limited shooting experiences at your local indoor range. South River also has extensive facilities for Skeet and Trap and a large portion of the membership is made up of folks whose main interest is these sports. There are rifle ranges out to 300 yards which require reservation so they can make sure a range-master will be available. I'd like to see remote electronic targets implemented, but not going to hold my breath for that. Just not a fan of tramping down range to change targets in an often muddy berm. The rifle range is the only reason I give them 4 stars instead of 5. read more

Went on Saturday to shoot skeet as a non-member. The staff was very friendly, the facility quite nice, and the shooting was great. In particular, the young man (David?) who took me around the range was great. I'm considering becoming a member. read more

guess again previous poster.....still a chicken shit outfit. i let my membership lapse after being informed the rifle range was to be permanently closed for practice. i was offered a $18 refund. we rifle shooters were allowed to use the range for six of the twelve months we each paid $300 for in ADVANCE, do you think that's right????. i shoot high power, the rifle range was my sole reason for joining in the first place so i was obviously done. wish you the best and enjoy your club. read more

Facilities are very nice. Action pits are great. Problem is, most members have no access Friday through Sunday because shooting competitions take up all of the bays. read more

First I have to say that the people that run the club Ronnie in the club house is GREAT, Bill that is the manager has one of the most difficult job and is a super person I have a lot of admiration for him, he has a lot of character and a good person.The owners of the club give more that they take in their lives. The club staff put a lot of work into have a class act shooting club. I have met may nice people and started friendships from this club. If you want to shoot skeet or trap it is a five star and the company of people is a ten star. The pistol ranges are taken up quite a bit by outside tournaments to supply more money for to club to make enhancements. Without these tournaments the club would have to charge a lot more for memberships and would not have money for enhancements, but outside tournaments on weekends come first before members so be aware if you want to shoot pistols you are best to shoot during the week days. It is nice to watch the Cowboy Action or 3 Gun, but the whole reason for joining the club is to shoot - not just be a bystander. Don't plan on any long gun shooting. The club shut down the 100, 200, and 300 yard ranges due to some idiots shooting at the power lines next to the range. The members of SRGC for many that primarily shoot rifles had the carpet pulled out from under them. The members that paid for 2017 dues in hopes that the club would recognize that they were in the club for rifle shooting and that the club would find a solution for a rifle range can't get their money back. There is NO RIFLE RANGE so be aware of that. The reason for a low score is that it is now not a real shooting club-it is just for skeet, trap and pistols and although I already paid my 2017 due in March. I will most likely never use the club due to the rifle range being closed and some weekends not being able to shoot pistols due to tournaments. Can't get refund! It is still a real nice facility with good folks! read more
