I have always been bad at working out on my own. I over-analyze whatI'm going to do at the gym and then I end up doing nothing. At TTS, I show up for the classes do what I'm told for an hour and move on with my day. I don't like the spin cycle, but I like what it's done for me. I don't love cardio kickboxing but it's a good full-body workout that you can do regardless of what shape you'rein. You don't have to be in shape when you start. Like many things in life showing up is half of the work. When you're there focus on the results you're working towards and the reasons you're doing it. Improving your health is not selfish, it benefits everyone around you. Bill also offers personal training for those who prefer it. There are some racks, some barbells, stacks of weights, ropes, boxes, and a variety of other stange things. Don't let that fool you. There may not be a whole lot of fancy and expensive equipment that you're used to seeing in other gyms, but this isn't like other gyms, either. Be prepared to train harder than you ever have before. You'll be sweating. You'll be out of breath. You'll be tired. You'll be sore. But, you'll have fun doing it, you'll make friends, and you will soon find yourself looking forward to your next WOD (Workout of the Day) whatever that may be. With CrossFit, each day is different, because each workout is different. You never know what you're getting yourself into, until you show up that day (unless you read the WOD Blog the night before) and with a different workout each time, you won't get bored. The prices are higher here than your typical gym, but there's a good reason for that. You'll have a trainer with you at each session reviewing each excercise before your WOD begins and then individual guidance during your workout. Each of the trainers at Sugar Grove CrossFit are extremely knowledgeable, are willing to help in any way to help you achieve the results you're looking for, and will motivate you when you need it most. I've only been doing CrossFit for a short time now (coming straight off of the couch), but I've already seen dramatic results. I've had success in traditional gyms, but usually something comes up where I lose my motivation and then I stop going altogether. It's different here. Not only because of workouts, but because of the people you'll meet. You will get to know the people here. You will get to know the trainers as well as the people you work out with. They will become your friends and you'll spend time outside of the box with them, whether it's at a charity event like a boxing match or breast cancer awareness WOD, celebrating Black Wednesday, or even attending the upcoming Christmas party. You'll know each other's names and they'll expect to see you in the box - if not, I would imagine/hope that t I'd get a text or a phone call. They say that CrossFit isn't for everyone... but, it should be. Whether you're young and already in shape or middle-aged with a more round shape, this is for you. Your workouts will be tailored to you and your abilities. No matter what, it's going to be hard, but the trainers here won't let you do anything that you shouldn't be doing. So, stop in. Watch a WOD. Ask to try it out. You won't regret it.

I joined this gym expecting a decent workout space, but it has been a letdown. Customer service is…read morenonexistent -- staff don't even greet you when entering or leaving, making the place feel cold and unwelcoming. The gym is rarely clean. Equipment is seldom wiped down, floors stay dirty, and the bathrooms are disgusting with bad odors and poor upkeep. They recently upcharged members, claiming it would add more equipment. All they added were four or five basic machines for regular use. Most of the better weights and gear are reserved for classes or require a premium membership. The new lifting platform is off-limits for regular members -- it's only for classes, and you'll quickly be asked to stop if you try using it. The front and back areas are constantly occupied by classes or group workout cycles, leaving everyone crammed into a tight space. The trainers aren't very professional. Many aren't mindful of the small gym layout -- they have clients swinging barbells right near you, and I nearly got hit more than once.This place doesn't deliver on cleanliness, space, or value.

Many months ago, I came to a fitness "fork in the road". I was completely unsatisfied with standard…read moregyms, having belonged to them for 20 yrs. My workouts were stagnate. After hours and hours of work and eating very healthily, I just wasn't seeing the results I wanted. I was considering hiring a personal trainer at my (old) gym but hesitated because they were all rather unseemly and I didn't want to have to spend much one-on-one time with any of them. Not when they seemed to think that my face was about 9 inches south of where it actually was whenever I talked to them. Family members had been talking up CrossFit for years and it had always fallen on deaf ears. "Blah blah blah ..CrossFit" I was completely turned off by just the thought. I had read plenty of people's anti-crossfit blogs and was quick to say "See, CrossFit is just a bad fad." Then there was the expense. But after looking at what I would be paying to hire one of those meathead trainers vs paying for a month's membership for CrossFit, it was actually considerably cheaper ($150/mo). What was the harm in trying? It can be hard to find if you don't know where you are going. 630 is located in the same large business complex as DeEtta's Bakery, but in one of the industrial buildings in back. Behind Naperville North HS's baseball field. I walked into this "box" at 630 and from the moment I stepped foot, I knew I'd never return to a standard gym again. No meatheads walking around pumping in front of mirrors. There were no women wearing makeup and jewelry, walking on treadmills while they watched TV and yacked on the phone(major, major pet-peeve). In fact, there were no treadmills at all. No TVs. No mirrors. No glitz. Just a few row machines, bar bells, pull-up bars, ropes, kettle bells, jump ropes etc... no fancy equipment. It felt like a nearly empty room comparatively. It wasn't empty though; it just lacked distractions. The people are supportive. They cheer you on. Give you high fives. Push you to do more. And they notice when you're not there. It's a community. The first week, I was doing things I'd never done before at standard gyms. And every day, there was a butt kicking workout (WOD) planned out for me. I just show up and do it. People are at all levels. From college age kids to retired individuals. It's literally for everyone. I'd always read stories about people trying to lift too much and then getting injured doing CrossFit. It was always one of the negatives I clung to before trying CF myself. That was not my experience here. They watch your form. Sometimes I'm told to increase my weights but sometimes I'm told my form is off because it's too heavy and to drop to a lower weight. Nobody wants anybody to get injured; nobody is being irresponsible with my health and wellbeing, but ultimately that is up to the participant. I love that there's no yearly contract to sign. No sign up fees. It's just your flat monthly charge. Once you sign up with them, you can pay online or make adjustments to your account. CrossFit ruined me from ever joining a regular gym ever again. I honestly find them to be completely repulsive now. I still keep a membership at a regular one, in case I want to have a run and the Chicago weather doesn't welcome it. I'll use an occasional treadmill, but walking into the standard gym always gives me an immediate reminder for why I'll never again be that girl who goes to spin classes, only working the same few muscles. It's all so mind-numbingly boring to me now. Boring, yet distracting. I don't miss the women in the locker room putting on make-up and perfume *before* they head out to the floor to pretend they are going to workout. Or people who are more concerned with how they look while they exercise rather than how they're performing. I don't miss working out with TVs surrounding me. And I certainly don't miss the spin classes where I had to listen to Nickelback!! Joining CrossFit 630, was the best decision I ever made.

I've had an especially hard time losing the many pounds I packed on due to taking mood stabilizers. Frustrated and desperately seeking a program that would help me shed pounds for my upcoming wedding, seeing Liz's video was a call to my soul! I decided to fully commit to the program and hope for the best... In 6 weeks, I lost just over 11 lbs! I love the Opposing Force familia. They are a quirky group but they keep things entertaining! The workouts with Jake and Cody continue to kick my butt every morning. Your sore muscles will be a testament that it's working! It's great that you get individualized coaching on your form even in a class setting. The nutrition plan provided by Liz really does get results! I also love that the trainers are constantly checking in with you, ready to answer questions and keep you on your game. This family is a fun one: they have themed workouts for holidays and put together extra contests to help everyone achieve their goals. However I only lost about 3 % body fat as well as the $500 I paid upfront for the 6 week program. The nutrition component was missing and I did not feel very welcomed by the nutrition expert. Cody also gave me some advice on nutrition which was a little helpful. The one plus I got from this program was that I started lifting weights for the first time in my life. The workouts are all amazing however. EXPENSIVE but if you can afford it and have your diet down, totally give them a try.

Corey has a monster 800+ deadlift and has played football at a high level and knows what it takes to get athletes to perform better. Kristen Miceli has had 4 kids, (please don't kill me) somewhere over 40, and walks around all day with abs and looking great. Definitely someone who knows how to help a woman look and feel better. I hate when I go to a gym and can only tell who the trainers are because they have a polo on that says "trainer".... these guys actually know what they are doing and live it themselves. Way better than the overpriced and under-performing corporate gym people.
