Judging by their Facebook page, you'd think this place was a dessert store only - nothing but sweet…read morefood promoted. I am less interested in dessert so I had no intention of trying it, but an acquaintance told me they also serve meals and that it's quite good. But I didn't have very good luck when I opted to try it. The first time I tried to get in to try it, I got there around 7:30 and was told that they were pretty much sold out of everything. They close at 8 so that wasn't completely implausible. I tried again a couple weeks later, this time showing up at 6 pm, wanting to try their stew that was on special but they had run out of that as well. They had other items on the menu available but none were whetting my appetite so I left and figured it wasn't meant to be for me to try this place. Recently, I noticed they had vegetable lasagna on special. So I decided to try again (this time around 1 pm) and they finally still had some left! I took it home and immediately noticed that the cheese was not melted, still grated. Uh, okay. Does that mean I actually have to bake it myself? That part wasn't made clear at all. I thought this place offered ready to go meals. Since I took it home, it was no problem to pop it into the oven, but if I was hoping to have it for lunch while at work I would have been SOL. So I baked it, not knowing what temperature to bake it at or for how long because it wasn't clear whether it was a take and bake item or ready made. There were no instructions with it either. I just took it out when it looked done. I have to say, this was one of the driest, blandest lasagnas I've had in a long time. Very few veggies and virtually no sauce. I don't get the hype surrounding this place. It's confusing as to weather their food is ready made or not, and it isn't clearly marked anywhere in the store or online indicating either way. I probably won't be back any time soon.

I can only speak on behalf of the pizza I received so take that into consideration. The slices were…read morefairly floppy and weren't crisp as most pizza should be. The cheese and other toppings however were on point. It's a very thin type of pizza but the sag was a bit excessive in my opinion. The dough was alright and sauce were okay too but for $20 I could get heaven on earth at various other "gourmet" pizza places. Not a bad pizza but for the price there is much better. I do have to add though that their desserts look phenomenal, so perhaps I'll make another trip just to try those.

This guy rocks! He…read morerecently catered a wedding I attended and he did not disappoint. Would recommend hiring him for any event in the Halifax area. Super friendly dude with a delicious menu. Also, handled a curveball really well. It started raining during the rehearsal dinner and he improvised and made it all work!

I love me the Nomad Gourmet…read more My first experience was at a Local Connections Halifax event linked up with Propeller Beer. Bought a ticket, got beer and NG burgers. It was beer and burger heaven for the evening. My second experience was sampling their sausages on a bun when checking out the Man Show part of the Exhibition Park Christmas Craft Fair. One thing is clear, you don't have to be a man to enjoy the tasty morsels being served up from the NG kitchen. And then this weekend I got to try breakfast Nomad style. I chose to "build my own breakfast' for $4. The way this works is you get an egg and hash browns and add on things at your choosing for extra $. I added some bacon and got the BEST BACON of my life. It was perfectly grilled and made my weekend. The egg was fried egg perfection and there were too many hash browns for me to eat. The hash browns are real local potatoes cooked on the grill and have a charbroiled taste to them. Pro-tip - NG will now be at the Halifax Seaport Market on weekend mornings as long as there isn't a cruise ship in harbour. Extra Pro-tip - I didn't try the breakfast sandwich - but people - it's homemade Belgian waffles with chicken!! One final tip - when your handsome pirate brother has a new baby the way to the new parents hearts is to bring Nomad Gourmet burgers to the hospital for lunch the day after the baby is born. That way both new parents are happily stuffing their faces with burger goodness and you get your brand new niece all to yourself! (at least until the burgers are devoured...)

Wedding season has come to a close and I finally have some time to reflect on all the fancy…read morepartying and delicious eats. Or in this case, the worst food I have ever eaten in my life. How could I be so harsh? Well I feel the need to be intensely honest about my experience with All Occasions Catering as quite a lot of time and money and money was invested in what the hosts thought would be a delicious wedding reception. We recently attended a wedding that was catered by this company, they opted for a BBQ and sides at a pricey $15.95 per person. With over sixty people, they spent at least $1500 including alcohol and dessert (alcohol and dessert were from another source). The price and lack of quality made me quite outraged as it would have been so easy for the food to be edible. The BBQ consisted of Caesar salad, potato salad, chicken on a stick, and your choice of a hamburger, a hot dog, or a pulled pork sandwich. I opted for the hamburger but had a chance to taste all of the offerings. Of the eight people we sat with every single person found the food disgusting. In the case of the chicken on a stick, it wasn't even cooked. It was pick and cold, and was served from a container full of greasy chicken water. Not appetizing. The burgers were some sort of construed meat, not even fresh, but from a box. The buns for all options were Wonderbread. $1500 and you get stale grocery store Wonderbread. The hot dogs were not any better. We were served by a grumpy caterer who communicated via some series of grunts. My burger was scooped from a metal warming pan filled with another pool of greasy liquid. It wasn't even hot off the BBQ. None of us could find the condiments so we ate our burgers and hot dogs bare and lukewarm. I choose to try all of the sides because I knew the second my burger was served I'd be hungry. The Caesar salad was just lettuce and dressing, I only received one mushy crouton. No freshly ground pepper or grated Parmesan there. The potato salad had a nice flavor, but my potatoes were barely even cooked and difficult to bite into. Drinks were various types of liquor and five kinds of pop. Although the drinks were just as hidden as the condiments, being that they were thrown in giant tubs of ice and covered with towels. Classy. This attitude seemed to pervade the entire catering experience. Giant industrial style garbage cans were left out in the open right next to a carefully decorated wedding arch. Not the classy or romantic image anyone expected. I had the feeling the entire time that anyone could have done a better job. Even a potluck would have offered better food. If you check out their website you can see they charge a hefty $20 an hour (with a necessary one hour before the event setup) for the "chef" to whip out pre-made burgers and plop them in a murky stew of warm greasy water. If you have over fifty guests, which they did, they force servers at $20 an hour on you. I can't see why a buffet BBQ requires servers when we were never told where the drinks were, when dinner was ready, and what was even being served. I can safely say that that catered "meal" was the absolute worst dining experience I'd ever had. And probably worst value for money. I felt like they ripped off the hosts at every turn. Within minutes of every guest being served at the buffet, the chef packed up and high tailed it out of there. No chance of seconds. Not that seconds would be a good idea. I don't understand at all how this happened considering how easy it is to make good fresh food. Why weren't the burgers made from scratch and seasoned? Why couldn't they buy bulk fresh buns from a bakery? Even Costco has delicious fresh buns that are above and beyond Wonderbread. Why didn't any of the staff communicate anything to guests? Is it so hard to add croutons to a salad and throw some real cheese in? I cannot fathom how this company calls themselves caterers when they made none of the food, they only reheated it from frozen and doled it out. If you're looking for a caterer, don't let the website photos fool you, the food looked nothing like their photo gallery. Which is stunning considering the couple ordered the most expensive package. Having recently had our own wedding, I priced out at least twenty caterers. Every other caterer offered fresher and less expensive food. Look elsewhere and you'll avoid this gastro nightmare.
