We've had the pleasure of working with Scanway twice in the past five months. Once was for a corporate breakfast and the second was for our staff holiday party. Ordered for easter dinner for 4 ...Melissa was fantastic and everything was boxed up nicely , turkey dinners with all the trimmings, salads, buns and even some yummy stollen, dessert was carrot cake it was all delish ! We had it for my Dad's easter dinner and everyone was full to the brim and enjoyed it ,especially their reisling gravy to top everything off with. We will be ordering again ! First, they suck you in to the shop with a window-ful of crazy-looking cakes, covered in colourful fondant, and looking like something out of Alice in Wonderland. Then, they offer you free broken bits of Florentines, to pique your sweet-tooth and make you crave something delicious. Then, they hit you with the catering menus. Wouldn't you love a pre-packaged picnic, all packed up in a wicker basket just waiting for you and your honey to spread out on a blankie on the living room floor, all whimisical-like? No? How about a catered "working" lunch or dinner for the office, choice of 6 delicious menus? Don't feel like doing the turkey dinner this thanksgiving? Scanway will do up a traditional turkey dinner for any number of people, complete with turkey, stuffing, potatoes, and plum pudding for dessert. Mmmm. They also offer sandwich trays (delicious) and other catered specialties. If you need food for a group, but don't have the time or the inclination to make it yourself, Scanway can be a godsend. This place is good. So good I've put off writing a review because I'm not sure I can convey how much I love this place. First off, follow them on Instagram. It's artisan donut heaven. Is that a thing? Artisan donuts? They're constantly posting delicious sweets and it will drive you crazy. Their patio is the best in the city. It's beautiful, and there is a bar up there, so once you grab what you want from the bakery, you can walk up to the patio and sit comfortably. On my patio visit I had the red velvet cupcake. It was so good. I white girl can't even. Red velvet is my favourite and although it's hard to mess up, it's also hard to get that step up. If anything sweet thing could be my life, it would be cream cheese frosting. This last visit I opted to sit in the bakery and enjoy a donut croissant.. a croissnut? Coconut style, it was delicious as well. The bakery itself is super cute and cozy to sit in. (I took a photo to show you guys). They also sell loads of fresh baked bread, which I didn't realize till I sat down with my coffee and donut choice. It's hard to see anything else with their glass cases of cakes, tarts donuts, cupcakes.. you get the idea. They also have an impressive sandwich board loaded with delicious sounding options.. grilled cheese with bacon? Yuh. I'll have that. Actually, they have a lobster sandwich which I will be trying out ASAP... and you just know they're made with fresh, home made bread baked right there behind the cash. The ladies that waited on me were lovely, and as I sat down to drink my coffee, slowly slipping into a sugar coma, I observed them being super friendly and sweet to everyone else. When I went into Scanway recently I was dead set on buying Florentines. I wanted so many of these crisp and chewy treats that I'd be able to swim in them when I got back home. I soon learned that I didn't need to make a purchase in order to indulge on these dream sweets as they provide free samples! Imagine that, a large jar next to the register busting forth full of Florentine mishaps. I don't advocate going to Scanway just to nibble on freebies, but this is definitely a perk of the visit. Not to mention, the sheer visual delight of browsing their fun selections. Colorful cakes and carefully made truffles line the display cases, and for about two dollars you can buy a melt-in-your-mouth personal-sized sweetie to take with you. I felt like Alice in Wonderland during my visit, minus the confusion and eerie effects of spiraling down a rabbit hole. read more

I've never had a Scanway cake, although I did drool over their wares when they had a storefront on Quinpool. I ordered a cake for Father's Day/my mother's birthday. Their website is easy to navigate with a list of all the scrumptious-looking items they offer. I chose a chocolate fudge cake with chocolate buttercream icing. You are able to order by email, which I really appreciated. The prices were actually more reasonable than what I was expecting. Pickup was a breeze. We were approached as soon as we entered Saege and directed to the bar. A few minutes later the cake was brought out and the box opened for inspection. Beautiful chocolate cake with kiwi and berries on top. (It was very good, by the way!) While my experience with Scanway is limited, I had no problems, everyone was friendly and helpful, and I would absolutely order from them again. read more

So many walk-bys but never a visit. I changed that recently and am pretty pleased that I did. As a strong advocate for t r e a t s .... it was only inevitable that I'd be swooned sideways. Free samples, yes? I used to trip to Costo strictly for servings of this nature. Its actually a pretty great idea, seeing as though Quinpool is an ongoing jamming spot for business owners. Throw a few samples out there and its a natural hook. This is a strategy to work in Scanway's favor. Cakes and pastry treats lined the shop in pure glory, and I was sort of sold just looking at it all. Fresh, visually stimulating and (after the jump) delicious.... I would definitely hire up these folks to cater my party. Not sure if I'll be in the market for a catering service in the near future, but I suggest those who are to keep Scanway in mind. They made me an amazing wedding cake that people still talk about seven years later. I had originally wanted a mad hatter cake, but I just couldn't spend that much on a cake. I was just as happy with the cake I did order as if I had ordered the mad hatter cake. They had me bring in paint chips to show them the colours I wanted and they made me this fabulous cake that looked like three brightly coloured gift boxes stacked on top of each other. Each layer was a different flavour cake with a different buttercream and we made it the dessert. Also, I would kill a man to get at their florentines. read more

I've probably eaten Scanway catering more often than I even realize given that they're one of the very top local caterers in the city, but aside from finger-foods and stuffy events, my love for Scanway really comes down to just two bites. The Halifamous Scanway Florentines. "Oooommmfnfgfncrunchcrunchcrunch." That was me eating some. In case you didn't catch it. As someone who isn't crazy about sweets, having the simplicity of just two bites combining chocolate, caramel and almonds all in one is like a dream come true. You can still eat one when you're full after a nice dinner at Saege, or, when no one's looking, you can go to town on a bag-full as if they were Ruffles. I ordered a three-tier wedding cake for my celebration on July 7, 2012. It was probably the easiest thing I had to do as part of wedding planning. I went in for a 30-minute meet and greet with the cake designer/baker. In that time, I had not only tried the options with my Maid of Honour, but we'd selected the final details, I had paid the deposit and was out the door! Yes, I had done my homework and knew (roughly) what I wanted, but the staff were professional, not pushy about making you get more than you wanted/needed, and very efficient. On my wedding day, the cake was absolutely and exactly what I ordered. It was flawless, and received many guest compliments as to how simple, yet elegant it was. And the price? Well, I think Scanway has a reputation for being pricey. My three-tier cake in 6-8-10 inch rounds was less than $300.00 - absolutely comparable with any other baker in town. I'd recommend Scanway in a heartbeat, and will be back in the future - if not for a wedding cake, for some delicious florentines :) read more

I don't know where to start with Scanway. It has such a beloved place in my heart! First of all, if you haven't tried their donuts yet you are missing out. Easily the best in the city! The flavours change up daily but I love the one they have occasionally with raspberry icing. Yum!! If you're more of a savoury person, they also do mouth watering bread. They have other sweet treats too but I can never say no to the donuts. read more

Typically I love the cafe and enjoy popping by for a drink and snack, however today the service was terrible. After leaving, we realized that what was ordered as a hot chocolate, was very much not one (it was a black coffee with hot chocolate toppings...) We called the store to let them know and see if they would be able to replace it and they essentially told us too bad, and that they wouldn't replace it. The doughnut and other coffee we ordered were fantastic, but the service has very much turned us off from returning. -Dissapointed customer. read more

I won't be back for work or pleasure. Dropped in to pick something up as a favour for a friend. After being ignored for 10 minutes I felt like I was jumping up and down to get someone to pay attention to me. When I did get someones attention, it was a total mess. Did I know if it had been paid for? Was I paying for the item? Seriously? You don't know about your own custom order? I'm sure the food is delicious. It smelled and looked yummy. I used Scanway for my at home wedding. They were flawless! The wait staff was kind and hard working. They basically ran our wedding adn took charge which was great. I visited Scanway's today very excited to pick out my wedding cake with my aunt and niece. The service there was very disappointing, we were hardly greeted and placed in a corner to look at a album. We basically sat there for 10 minutes when it become obvious no one was going to help us. I approached the counter and asked for some help in which we were ignored and waited for another 5 or so minutes. The lady was too busy placing cookies on a platter to help me pick out my dream wedding cake. We felt like we were a burden and just up and left, I work too hard for my money to hand it over to someone who treated me and my family like an inconvience. read more

I preordered a Princess Martha cake for my husband's birthday. The day it was to be picked up March 19 the buses were not running, walking a challenge and driving next to impossible due to horrible snow conditions. I was not sure how I'd get the cake or wait until the following day to pick up but I got a call from Scanway offering to drop the birthday cake off. This was so unexpected, so kind and made for a wonderful birthday since this cake is a tradition for our birthdays. The cake as always is super good. I've been here twice now. The first time, I stopped in to try a donut and the woman helping me was very friendly and the donut was absolutely delicious. The second time, we came for lunch and we had asked a waitress in the bakery how we should order and sit on the patio. She told us that we should order our coffees in the bakery and bring them upstairs on the patio and then order our food up there. When we reached the counter to order our coffees, the gentleman told us to order them upstairs at the patio. When we got a table upstairs on the patio, we had the same waitress that helped us in the bakery and we ordered our coffees. She told us that we had to order them downstairs and we told her we tried, but were told to order on the patio. She was able to bring us our coffees, which was great, but we also ordered waters, and she never brought it to us. We switched tables for one with an umbrella and asked a different server to bring us waters. The service was terribly slow and our waitress told us it was due to the fact they only had one cook on. We watched two tables before us send their food back, which probably didn't help with the cook being backed up on orders. We waited 1.5 hours until we got our food, and we didn't get all of our meals at the same time. There was 10 minutes between each dish. The burger was first to arrive and it was very cold, the bun didn't have any sauce on it, so we had to ask the waitress for condiments. We also didn't want to send back our burgers because it had already been 1.5 hours by the time we got it, we didn't want to wait any longer. We also order the grilled chicken mango and potato bacon salad, which was ok. When our waitress brought us our food, she only brought one set of cutlery with one cloth napkin, so my boyfriend and I had to share the napkin. I left very unsatisfied and disappointed. It's upsetting to have to pay the amount we did for a really poor experience. I would highly recommend Scanway for their donuts, but I never recommend them for lunch. read more

I ordered my wedding cake from Scanway. They were hesitant about offering a cake tasting from the get go which I thought was odd considering the cost. The samples were good but our actual wedding cake (3 tiers) was dry, like it was 2 weeks old and the butter cream frosting was tasteless...it did look pretty with the design/ pattern I requested on it, but that's about it. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!! We just had the worst experience with Scanway Catering. We ordered The Rich Chocolate Fudge cake for our wedding last week that did cost us $450 and we had the worst cake ever. Extremely dry cake, no flavour, cream was not creamy, butter cream on top was just shortening with sugar, we had the cake left on the plates by our guests which was really embarrassing. I had people telling me they think it was a 2-3 weeks old cake . We took the cake back to the bakery (more than 3/4 of it since we had to stop serving it) and the customer care doesn't exist in the vocabulary of this company. We waited for a call back from the manager or the owner which never happened. When we called back the manager said that they think the cake was "great". In other words they wont do anything to fix this situation. When my husband went back to speak with them in the middle of the day nobody was to be found so we asked for the cake back the girl over the counter said the cake is not there anymore. At the pressure of my husband that either someone comes to talk to him or he requires the cake back by miracle the cake was there !!!! Extremely disappointed experience we had and we hope nobody will go through this in their most important day. They dont care about the client satisfaction but just to cash the money from you!!!! read more
