    Seaport Market Full Breakfast
    Robbie K.

We were excited to try the breakfast at this place when we saw that they are all organic and rated well. Although the breakfast we had was good it was also a bit disappointing. We both had the Seaport Market Full Breakfast, one with sausage and the other with bacon so we got to try both options. The sausage, bacon, and eggs were standard. We asked for gluten free toast and only got one slice each where normally you'd get two. Along with both meals came a large portion of hash browns which were way too oily and not too appetizing, we both couldn't finish them. Our opinion is the the prices are too high for what you're getting. The breakfast was $17 each and we each got a cafe Americanos which brought the price to $50+ with tip. We wouldn't chose to go back but definitely good to try.

Love the farm to table concept - all their food is fresh and the organic produce is locally sourced from Selwood Green Farm. Being winter at the moment, there were lots of seats and tables free. They also have a small section selling produce in the restaurant. They serve all day breakfast here, but also have an extensive sandwich menu and daily specials. There's also a juice bar and they make smoothies and cold press juices.

Ham and cheese sandwich done wrong
    Ben G.

I ordered a ham and cheese sandwich for $13. My expectations was some ham and cheese in between two slices of bread. Turns out I had my sights set way too high. What arrived was some store bought ham slices and cheese on an open face "deconstructed" sandwich. Why did we need to reinvent the sandwich, its a simple concept that has worked for years. The bread was dry, with no where near enough spread on, the ham was cheap and the cheese barely existent. Don't waste your money, there's plenty of other places to eat around here.

Because I'm always at the market at the worst possible times - i.e. when all but two vendors are actually closed - my choices are usually made for me out of desperation. Luckily, that often turns out to be a good thing. Selwood Green shares a big space on the waterfront side with La Vendéene Bakery and shows just what magic can happen when you've got some local cooperation. With Selwood's fresh produce and use of ingredients from other vendors, your all-day breakfast, soup, or sandwich ends up being absolutely top notch! I resisted the siren's call of a mid-afternoon breakfast and went for the fancy avocado sandwich on sourdough. The lady building my masterpiece walked across and nabbed fresh bread from La Vendéene (loved that market swagger) and got to work behind the counter. It was cash only which is a bit of a pain for me but it didn't take long to get to the ATM down the hall. For under $10, I got a plate literally full of fresh greens in a delicious light dressing and a huge open-faced sammie with impeccably presented avocado that was sliced and layered by size like magazines on a coffee table. They had no problem giving me a real plate to take out to one of the nearby tables outside which let me enjoy a beautiful lunch with a stunning view of George's Island. Now that's some East Coast excellence!

Also called Norbert's good food. Excellent. Fabulous breakfast: fresh o.j., variety of innovative omelettes like kale, selwood green and breakfast croissant. Tasty bakery items. Cappuccino and latte are outstanding. Very pleasant salad with meal and good toast. Tables in or on water. Visit Black Art Gallery just down the way farm to market building.

Norbert's!!! Cookie, latte and bacon avocado toast. You need to eat ALL of this!!!!

This place is fabulous. I tried the following: avocado toast with bacon, latte and a cookie. Everything was fresh and delicious. The atmosphere is cool and the view of the light house is perfect. It's literally one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. Prices are high-ish but you're paying for the quality of ingredients and that view (both excellent). Just go!!!!

This place is located inside the Halifax Seaport Farmers' Market. One of the entrances to get to the farmers' market gets you to pass by Norbert's. What drew my curiosity to this place was a sign that mentioned fish and chips and that all it took to get me give this place a try. The fish and chips was... well, I won't say that it got me beaming inside but it was good enough to satisfy my long-time cravings for it. I was more into the chips and the tartar sauce which I hope was made in-house. But despite this... I still say that Norbert's is worth checking out. There were other dishes on their menu, each to suit different people's cravings. And yes I forgot to mention...there is also good coffee here, desserts, ice-cream and on-the-go type snacks. And depending on which side you enter the the farmer's market, it's conveniently there if you need to grab a bite to eat before walking around to check out the vendors.

    Loved the owners' story!

My dad got the eggs benedict, the eggs were over cooked, the bread wasn't toasted, and it was way over priced. Will not be going here again.

It's only open Saturdays from 8am-2pm. My husband and I made specific plans to check out this market on our most recent trip to Halifax and I'm so glad we did. It's in what would have been the outside space between old buildings, but that space has since been enclosed and now it's inside. It looks really funky and cool. They had so many vendors that interested me. Lots of food places to choose from. I had done some reconnaissance online and flagged 2 vendors I wanted to try: Mediocre Bakery and Snow Day Treats. I found Mediocre Bakery, but wasn't able to find Snow Day Treats. Luckily, I found a good substitute with Helene Cookies. Mediocre Bakery (funny and ironic name because they are far from mediocre) sells these spiral buns, like cinnamon buns but more spirals, lol, and both sweet and savoury. We got a Muffuletta bun ($6) to share. It was fantastic, albeit a bit greasy. It had olives and pickled vegetables in it. We loved it. We would definitely buy from this vendor again and maybe try a sweet one next time. I wanted to get the little crispy squares that looked like snow from Snow Day Treats, but couldn't find the vendor anywhere, but then I spotted the strawberry nougat from Helene Cookies, which isn't traditional nougat at all, and it looked like it could be a good substitute. It was a bit pricey at $15 for a small bag but after tasting a sample, I had to get it. Haha. The nougat has crispy parts and looked somewhat like it was covered in snow, lol. The owner was so friendly and welcoming. Offering us lots of samples and letting us know that all the items were his own recipe. I looked online and the strawberry nougat has marshmallow, Ritz cracker crumbs, dried cranberry, dried strawberries, butter, whole milk powder, and walnuts. How creative! They call them "Happy Cubes" on their website, which is a fitting name because they made me happy, lol. I think the Happy Cubes are proper cubes, while the nougat is the ends and broken pieces. Not as aesthetically pleasing as the cubes, but delicious nonetheless. The highlight of our visit was a place we stumbled upon: 175 Chicken. I saw they had Coffee Fried Chicken for $8. It's chicken pieces marinaded in coffee and deep-fried and served with salted caramel sauce. Sounded so weird, I had to try it. Let me tell you, it was amazing! One of the best things I've ever had. They fry it to order so it was piping hot and so crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside with a coffee flavour. So wacky but so delicious. They also have regular fried chicken for those less adventurous. They sell sauces too. I also got a Blueberry Rose kombucha from Pickled Pink ($5.75). It was good and I enjoyed the flavour profile. I was intrigued by a flavour they had called Organic Forest or something like that. I inquired and the lady said it had flavours of spruce, pine and cedar. I was a bit hesitant to buy it even though it sounded interesting so she gave me a sample. It wasn't my cup of tea, so I asked to try the Blueberry Rose as I suspected I'd like that one, and I was right. Hubby got a drip coffee (medium for $2.50) at CTC and liked it. There were so many other vendors I wanted to try, but we had planned on going to the Halifax Seaport Farmers' Market immediately afterwards so I wanted to save stomach space, lol. In retrospect, we should have skipped the other market and just gorged on the food at the Halifax Brewery Market. Haha. If you're visiting Halifax on a Saturday and you like markets, I definitely recommend checking out this Halifax Brewery Market! (175)

The Long Version: When my husband and I were in Halifax recently, we did 2 Markets back-to-back, this one and the Halifax Brewery Market and I personally liked the Halifax Brewery Market better, as it had more interesting foods and vendors and wasn't as crowded. My impression is that this Halifax Seaport Farmers' Market is more for tourists and the Halifax Brewery Market is more for locals, but I could be wrong. I got a Pancit Bihon for my husband and I to share at Pinoy's Best Halifax. It was $7 for a small serving. It tasted good and had this Liptons Chicken Soup smell that I loved, lol. Weird, I know. I just didn't like that they microwaved it in a plastic container. I would have preferred it if it was kept in metal warming trays and served into a cardboard container. My husband got a 4L jug of Maple syrup from Ripley's Maple ($58) for his sister. She was coming to Halifax too but not when the Halifax Seaport Farmers' Market would be open so she asked him to get it for her. He gave it to her in Halifax and she was driving home, so we cannot attest to whether the jug would survive a flight in checked baggage, it would be at your own risk, lol. I'm glad we checked out this market. If we were in the area again on future visits to Halifax I would drop by, but I wouldn't specifically plan to go to it like we did this time. (179)

They have expanded the ready made section and I often grabbed something for the drive home to snack on. I didnt care for everything I tried but would not return something simply because it wasnt to my liking. Last week I purchased some hot pepperoni for the drive home. Ive been eating pepperoni since I was a kid. I like hot. I do not like mild or honey garlic. I was disappointed as it turned out to be mild. I checked the label but it was marked hot. So this week when I went in I grabbed my items as well as a package of pepperoni around the same price. I brought my receipt and the pepperoni purchased earlier. I have never returned anything to Daves in my life and actually just wanted an exchange. After paying for my other items and waiting for a manager I was denied an exchange and told it wasnt their fault just because I did not find it hot enough. I have had to return things to Giant Tiger, Costco, Sobeys and superstore. I have always been treated well and never given a hassle. This is not the customer service I expected. I was embarrassed and made to feel like I didnt know what I was talking about and I was wasting busy peoples time. They have lost a customer in me and 3 family members as well.
