Somehow they got my last review deleted. So I guess I'll…read moretype up another one. I emailed Joe, the owner of Orbit Audio. I requested 4 weeks in advance to have a spot booked up. I messaged back and forth with the audio engineer he assigned. As a side note, I flew from San Francisco, CA to Seattle, WA to record with them. 3 days before hand, they told me I was still good to go for the session. With about 16 hours before my session they cancelled on me telling me they had booked someone else and couldn't take me in. As a musician of 25+ years, they treated me like a 'second rate' musician. So let me tell you this. If you're an indie artist, DO NOT go here. They cancelled on me just to get a couple more hours of time booked. A little bit of extra money in their pockets. They didn't take into account that I had spent the previous 4 weeks non-stop preparing for the session, just to cancel on me with less than 24 hours notice. These are audio engineers, not artists or musicians. They simply do not care about anything other than the money in their pockets. When I was told I was cancelled, they tried to get me to go to another location at one of their audio engineers house. Please tell me how if I'm looking at paying anywhere between $500-$1,000 for a day of recording and mastering that I would want to go to someones house to record. They will rush you and attempt to take advantage of you. Stay away from here. P.s. If you don't believe me, here's a screenshot from the owner apologizing forgetting to book me. Our tour guide Maggie is a recording engineer at the studio. She did a great job sharing the history of the studio, great stories about the bands, deep knowledge of the equipment and room's sonic characteristics, the current types of projects they work on, and the state of the recording industry in general. If anything, they've limited sound quality. Seattle HiFi recommended the Niagara 1200, and phoned me when one became available. I was open to looking at the more expensive versions but was persuaded that I really just needed the basic 1200 model. With low expectations, I plugged my gear in. Wow. Immediately heard improvements. Cleaner top end, more detail, better bass definition, and less ear fatigue when listening to digital gear. Color me highly impressed again.

The site is still a working, privately owned studio which has likely saved it from demolition and development; so please be respectful to the current owner and what the site historically stood for. From the beginning the session was fluid and the dialogue clear (not always easy when it comes to music). Studio is equipped with anything you would need, unless you are an orchestra. I didn't record in the large live room he has available, so I will just speak to what we did. Voice, acoustic/electric guitar, bass (which he kindly let me borrow), some percussion, and samples. I was very impressed with how quickly he captured the acoustic guitar and vocals in iso booth, spot on and much more efficient than even the bigger (i.e. more expensive) studios I have been at. I had a pretty good vision of what I wanted, but Frank really helped guide the song through the editing process like it was his own. He also logged in several hours gratis doing the rough mixing, a huge time saver as I usually end up just sitting around nodding my head when it comes to that stuff.
