It's in the process of being renovated and has been for quite…read morea while but I've had studios across Seattle for cheaper prices but the quality here you can't beat PROS: 1) Your gear is safe (that's really important to me.) A) People can't just waltz in there behind you. Each band mate needs a keycard to get in past the first door, even if you snuck in behind a band. The next door requires your own individual pin key not shared by your band. Even if they still get past that. You need another pin key to get in your room. I've been in too many places where a good kick to the door and my livelihood would be gone. Not the case here. Plus there's cameras. *Bonus* If you kick a band member out, they just deactivate their code so no worry if they still have a key and want vengeance B) Electrical outlets are much better and safer with breakers throughout the building so you don't have to worry about power surges & dirty power. C) Earthquake proof. Renovations are still being made. It feel like an underground vault but when the Viaduct comes down, you don't have to worry about your gear. 2) Manager on the premises. She's always there and working to make the place better, which can make one a bit scatterbrain sometimes. Honestly, if you have a problem with her, it's probably because you and your band are douches, go back to the Jam Box. 3) Easy loading. I've toured a lot and I've been in places where stairs/fire doors/elevators just damaged my gear. Everything is ramped 4) Pretty much as good as soundproofing can get. There's obviously spillage from the door, but not really from the walls. 5) Air Con/ Heat/ Internet CONS: 1) Quality comes at a higher price. It's your livelihood but I've tried going to cheaper places and most of the time my gear is more at risk 2) It's in Sodo. Stadium traffic plus there's a lot of bums passing through around the area but there's always someone there normally having a smoke or grabbing some air. Just be smart, don't leave gear in your car. 3) Internet is inconsistent. Some days it flies, other days it dies. Majority of the time it flies. 4) There aren't any windows so it's got a basement feel about it, but you're there to rock, not look at the weather. Good luck to you!

From the beginning the session was fluid and the dialogue clear (not always easy when it comes to music). Studio is equipped with anything you would need, unless you are an orchestra. I didn't record in the large live room he has available, so I will just speak to what we did. Voice, acoustic/electric guitar, bass (which he kindly let me borrow), some percussion, and samples. I was very impressed with how quickly he captured the acoustic guitar and vocals in iso booth, spot on and much more efficient than even the bigger (i.e. more expensive) studios I have been at. I had a pretty good vision of what I wanted, but Frank really helped guide the song through the editing process like it was his own. He also logged in several hours gratis doing the rough mixing, a huge time saver as I usually end up just sitting around nodding my head when it comes to that stuff. He is also an excellent player and that translates 200% into his teaching. In my years studying with him I learned an incredible amount in terms of complex musical concepts applied to percussion, simple straight ahead groove and feel, and the art and science of professionalism. Everything he taught me is extremely valuable and directly applicable to being a better drummer. 35+ years after taking my first lesson with him and I am still using his original material religiously in ways that I never dreamed of. I'm not the most confident singer and was a bit nervous when I first started; however, Natalie has helped build my confidence. Even though It's only been a few months, I feel a lot more confident and am a better singer. The staff at the school is top-notch! KZ handles everything at the Georgetown location. I called ahead to ask if I can bring in my trumpet for an estimate for services. 2. I got there, got an estimate for services. I was also informed that I would be notified if the cost would be greater. 3. I did get a phone call that the trumpet for the most part was done but there were other issues (which I knew existed when I first had it over two decades ago) which could be resolved but it'd cost extra. I agreed to it. I figured if I'm going to get it serviced, I should just pay to get it serviced in full and the right way. The communications were timely and transparent. Looking around the place reminds you of a music store Mr. Rogers would have visited. I'm happy there is a brick-and-mortar shop that still performs this craft of repairing instruments. Also, out of all the years I've played this old Yamaha trumpet, it never played so great as it does now. It pays to have a professional service. Of note, best time to go here is in the morning if you drive because there's a good chance you'll find free 2 hour parking.
