After Seattle Counseling Services closed, I was "transferred" to Sound, where I specifically requested a fully licensed therapist with years of experience in my particular needs. I was paired with someone who felt like the first therapist in a long time where I didn't have to spend multiple sessions "bringing them up to speed." Sadly, they retired just six months after my transfer. I was then assigned to a supervisor. They were generally good when they could attend the session. However, this individual increasingly had to pause the session to "attend to other emergencies." They often promised to return in five minutes but would disappear for the rest of the session, leaving me hanging. Other times, this therapist would call last minute to cancel and reschedule. When I returned their message with my availability, I would receive no response. Then, a week or two later, they would call on the scheduled day and time, apologizing for attending to other clients and acting as if my needs were unimportant. Then, I needed to take a break, and when I returned, Sound stopped billing my insurance and demanded a credit card payment instead. After several days over three months, I found out they weren't even attempting to bill my insurance. When my insurance contacted Sound's Accounts Billable department, calls and messages went unanswered, while invoices demanding immediate payment for previous services piled up. The few times I managed to reach someone there, I was treated as if I was the one with the issue and that Sound had done everything possible to assist me. have engaged in enough personal work to understand "Gaslighting" and can assert with complete certainty that the staff at Sound are unqualified, unprepared, and incapable of helping anyone with behavioral health concerns. Their entire approach seems to convey a positive image of assistance, yet the reality is that the work environment is chaotic, toxic, and primarily concerned with financial gain rather than patient welfare. Honestly . . . IF I found myself in crisis, Sound would be the last option I would consider for help. You could achieve more by looking up information online or viewing a YouTube video than relying on any professional support from Sound. read more

Sound Behavioral Health no matter how many times you change a name of a behavioral health facility what needs to be done is to change the quality of care. I remember two occasions: The first one was when I went to the Tukwila location. The counselor or whomever she was, was eating her lunch as she was doing my accessment. Now I'm unsure but I was raised that you do not eat in front of someone & its just unprofessional. The woman whose name I can't remember then would ask me asinine question about a comic strip cartoon. A little bit scary for me. I hold people in the mental health field to a higher standard & so far she did disappoint me. The 2nd occasion: Happened at the Sound Behavioral located in Bellevue. This particular appt was booked out 1 month in advance. The student therapist had kept on me about showing up for my appt. The day of the appt arrives & I arrive at said appt about 15 min early. I check in at the reception desk, I remember the reception then received a call from the Doctor who was assigned to give me my accessment. The Doctor canceled my 9AM appt w/o apology, w/o explanation. The reception was well she seemed at a loss on what to do or how to comfort me. I was extrememly upset. Unprofessional. I complained to the higher up's but they didn't accept accountability & turned it around to make it my fault! Really Sound? It's no wonder its a mess up in Seattle/Bellevue. This is real risky as a highly intelligent somewhat function person with an illness you really need to regroup & figure out a way to improve. I now pay out of pocket for my mental health care b/c hardly anywhere accepts insurance but my care is better. Sound is terrible grade: F. read more

I will say that Sound Behavioral Health is less attractive to a potential employee than I had hoped. After turning down an offer to do an overnight clinical supervisor role, I applied for a Senior Clinical Supervisor position in Auburn, WA, because of childcare challenges. If something else was to open, I was encouraged by the director to keep the organization in my back pocket; that should apply. So, I did for the Senior position. The experience I had initially with their recruiters compared to more recently was less optimistic and less interested, and this time, the recruiter struggled to engage me regarding my application for the Senior Clinical Supervisor position. At the end of my initial offer to the overnight supervisor position, the recruiter wanted to sell the job; she left the call optimistic and encouraging and advised me that she would forward my application to the hiring director. During this second round, the recruiter was vague, leaving me feeling lost regarding where my application went after the screening. A week later, there was no call follow-up, the position remained open, and there were no responses to my email. For the public to know, you may want to pass on SOUND Behavioral Health. The recruiters set the tone of the organization. Being engaged and then dropping you like a hot potato is disrespectful. This illustrates their personality, which at best can be described as emotionless and not a world-class employer. Just imagine who they hire and how they treat their patients, which is probably "sub-par" and will strongly indicate that their benefits are also "fair" conditions. I have to admit I am disappointed in Sound Behavioral Health's recruitment approach. Sound Behavioral Health is not hiring proactively and is staging a show for the public, which now feels deceptive and misleading. Do yourself a favor and allow yourself to look elsewhere because better employers are providing behavioral health services in Washington and better recruiting experiences. Horrible! Within one week of joining the wraparound program I have been verbally attacked and lied to by multiple staff members who I haven't even met in person yet. Zero accountability, 100% ableism & discrimination. Wow. These people should not be working with children. If a mental health therapist is having conversations that are degrading and traumatizing to an adult, what chance do children fare? Having interacted with 3 wraparound programs in the area it is clear they are running on a skeleton crew of compassion fatigued individuals who do not center client well being unless it falls into their narrow parameters of what THEY think is right for the family. Nevermind that the WISe program is supposed to be based on the family's goals. I would not recommend any WISe program in the seattle area to any disabled family. It's truly a disservice. Now I see why people (and statistics) say Washington is a terrible place for disability inclusivity. One of the worst in the nation. read more

I was a patient there for several years and this place is toxic and very poorly run. My first therapist was a very toxic person and would make inappropriate remarks. She was made a supervisor and I don't understand why but it fits. I quit seeing her, told her she was a terrible therapist. Number two--the first thing she did was tell me how many people therapist one "had helped", at our first appointment no less. My old psychiatrist, whom I could no longer see, had put me on disability, and she thought she knew better and how he had done me a "great misservice". Actually, putting me on disability helped me out a lot. I quit seeing her after a few sessions. Number three I have nothing bad to say about. She listened, she was caring, but I don't think her training had prepared her for dealing with a bipolar patient. Another point--for those of us who were dependent on getting our meds at this agency it was a continual frustration. Number one, our therapist was supposed to refill our meds which is totally unnecessary. I am an adult, older than most of the therapists there. And to get an appointment to see the medications dispensors would take three months! And at one point they had a person setting appointments who would consistently forget what days the therapists were there and set wrong appointment days. What is worse, the meds dispensers did not stay long. Only once was I notified that one was leaving. The second left and I had no idea, they had not even replaced here and the person left to do it was way overstretched. Adding insult to injury they decided they'd provide some medical services. This from an agency that was already overextended and undercutting their patients' needs. Do not go here! I repeat, it way sound convenient because it is a state agency but this place is very poorly administered and the patients are the ones who suffer. read more

This place likes to churn patients. The services are a catch-all meant to extract as much from the insurance companies as possible even when you don't need the "help". They don't really tailor the patient care plans by the individual needs of each patient, it's more like they're herding cows. It's an American Horror Story. This review is by request of my 70 year old mother who almost died from the actions of this business. After living with me as a self sufficient individual -my mother started to go to Sound Mental health in Tukwila for Therapy support and medication management. January of this year my mother went in to see her psych Physician Dr.z. A month after this visit my mother went to the ER because she made a decision on her own to decrease her medications.This was from not being made heard of the. issues at hand. She was saying for months before this to the Dr.z but he wouldnt make eye contact and was very dismissive of her input for a change of quality of life. After the ER vist- I took over the medication responsibilities as things changed some how. My mother was getting super high from the same medication level she took for 15-20 years. As a result she fell and fractured her tail bone. After a lot of bad days and nights and the feeling of a possible stroke may have occured- we finally got to get infront of the Dr.z. My mother was now in a wheelchair, drooling, and pretty much unable to talk. I stated what has been happening in the last couple months and suggested we look at the " medication cocktail " she has been taking for years- but with fresh eyes as its definatly was impacting her quality of life. I stated see was having night terrors and the pills that she was taking were not putting her to sleep but keeping her up super anxious and high all night. Dr.z stated to me that was odd since" those are very powerful pills that usally do the job. Those pills have a high street value for people who are up for days from meth so I don't understand why they don't work. This has been very informative- decrease her Syracuil 50mg and make an appt in 6 weeks." at that point he was already standing up with the door open kicking down the door stop. he kicked us out of his office after 10-15 and said take 50 mg less of the 450 mg she was taking daily- we didn't get to even talk about the fall,lithium, or blood levels. I was left to be the doctor with little to no support when we screamed for help to this dr. - in fact it felt as though he wanted me to sell the pills and shut up instead of review the products and possible decrease what was not needed for my mother. Now today is Nov 10th and my mom is lucky to be alive. She is in North Auburn Rehabilitation and is getting stronger. Aspiration was an issue and drinking water and regular food consumption became dangerous. She has had to stay in 2 hospitals for over a week in each and had to see multiple Neurologic Specialists to help balance out her medication induced symptoms that looked like Parkinson's Disease. She is walking, talking , and eating better as we work with the therapy we have. I believe if Dr.z would of did more than just the minimum of the job- my mom wouldnt of had to go through this at all. He made eye contact with her as much as he requested blood work- never. We have since pulled my mother away from this Tukwila office as this is not a joke and lives do depend on the work you are getting paid for. If it was me... I would find another Dr. for that office because I have read the medical professional reviews on this physician on message boards and it's an embarrassing look for the Sound organization. Dr.z my mother can bearly speak... but I will say this for her " Shame on you- these are elderly lives you look over. Disrespectful and dangerous" My mother and I will not be recommending the care of Dr.z from Sound Mental Health in Tukwila Wa as we think it can have dire consequences. Why would I go and sit and wait for them to see me. If you can not make an appointment, they do not value you as a person. I am NOT going to humiliate myself sitting all day waiting for people that do not care. Now I know why people in Seattle kill themselves and Sound Mental Health can help a person to the other side. In July I called to get my then five year old son into therapy at your Auburn location. I gave the woman his insurance information and everything else she needed and was told I would be getting a phone call in the next week or two to make an appointment for him. TWO MONTHS go by and I finally received a phone call in September to make an appointment for him. The appointment was scheduled for the next week and the woman asked me for my address so she could mail me all the paperwork - I never received it. I took my son information his appointment, filled out all the paperwork, and did his intake/assessment and was told she would call the next week to schedule an actual appointment with a counselor for him. That was over two weeks ago and I still have not received a call to make an appointment for him. Your employees should not tell your clients they will be calling them, mailing them paperwork, etc. if they aren't actually going to do it. This is for my now six year old son's mental health because he is already talking about how much he hates himself and wants to kill himself so I'm taking this very fucking seriously and I think it's bullshit that your employees are obviously not. My son will no longer be attending Sound Mental Health - I will find him a counselor that actually cares about his well being and won't just make him another phone call that never happens. I also plan on rating SMH to reflect the extremely poor service we received over the last three months as well as the service I have received over the last five years myself (if it wasn't for my amazing counselor I would no longer be a client there either.) This is people's lives. Take it seriously. Especially when it's someone as fragile as a suicidal five or six year old. It is hard to reach out for help and as far as I can tell no one in your adolescent department seems to fucking care. read more

Went here for therapy and medication, my previous therapist left the company so now I don't have a therapist. They don't have great customer service, I ran out of meds awhile back and had to go a week off my medication because my psychiatrist didn't give me any refills and wasn't contacting me back. Their staff is friendly and professional, but I wish they had more therapists and checked up on their patients to see how they're doing. read more

This place sucks! Totally and completely sucks! My 14 years old has been a patent there for almost a year. They have been horrible the whole time. They never answer phone calls or return emails. There is zero communication. Anytime I reach out to discuss issues with current medication, possible medication changes, to request more frequent therapy appointments or any issues of concern no one ever answers or responds. Both her therapist & medication manager have on several occasions just skipped our appointments, no call, no reschedule, no excuses, they just have the day off or are not available at scheduled appointment times and take days to get back to you if at all. I can not tell you how many times I have called because our appointment was skipped by the medication manager and they tell me they wont give more than a ten day supply of medication without an appointment but appointment dates are out over a month. Then our medication manager either quit or was fired and no one bothered to reach out. Once the appointment had already been missed, I had already called several times with no answer or call back, so finally I write an email only to receive an auto-response sayings she's no longer with the company. I contact the person referenced in the email and she says someone else will call in a day or two to schedule an introductory appointment with the replacement medication manager so we can get our usual refill. After 5 days I get an email with available dates and the administrative assistant who is writing the emails is so rude and completely unprofessional, now 14 days after initial message about an introductory appointment we have no medication, no upcoming appointment and no faith in Sound Mental Health! This place is a joke. On 4 different occasions, during hospitalizations for suicide attempts the ER social workers have expressed they're frustration with Sound for being completely unreachable even in emergencies. The school counselors have voiced the same concerns. This place should have it's license revoked. Don't trust them with your or your loved ones mental health, they will only let you down. read more

SMH appears to receive significant funding from DSHS. Consequently, patient rights seem to be a secondary concern. From the moment you walk in the door, they'll ask about payment, how much DSHS is covering, how much money you have or make, etc. Consequently, their processes and policies seem to be more about cooperating and supporting government agencies and not consumers. One example is that they make it extremely difficult for a patient to gain access to his or her own medical records (in violation of state and federal law), even if you've paid for all medical services yourself, in full. If you demand access in writing, they will simply make it difficult - the records staff is unresponsive, unavailable by phone or in-person and apparently work only part-time. If you're there as part of some sort of government program and have no interest in the outcome or the amount of time you spend, then by all means SMH is for you. Otherwise, exercise caution. read more

i hate writing reviews but this place sucks. at their cap hill clinic they let ppl sleep and play loud music everywhere, ure never seen on time, they put me on an injection that caused severe swelling and depression, which is what i wanted cured!! i had no life on the med they prescribed, just constant crying, hunger & wishing to die ugh. read more

Place is the worst. Receptionist-if you can find one- doesn't even know who works there. Phone rings forever if you call, then getting an appointment when you NEED one is impossible. You know I don't know what a lot of people here are complaining about. I have been with Sound Mental health now for 12 years first on Olive way and 7 years at Tukwila office and I have always had my meds appointments on time and good caring therapist. Thank heavens for Homestead projects that allowed me to get emergency section 8 and housing. So many more mentally ill out there without housing so few resources. Those of you complaining about rides the fact that you even get a ride home you should be grateful all at the cost of tax payer money. If you are on medicaid/medicare you should be grateful you even have services instead of complaining getting home late and missing dinner. read more

Don't listen to the other reviewers who are complaining, obviously it's all about them and the reason is clear why they need therapy. I've been going to Sound Mental Health in Tukwila for several years. The staff on the 3rd floor is courteous and likeable. Because the office is one of the few that take Medicare and Medicaid it has a large case load. Patients on Medicare and Medicaid should be grateful, it's extremely difficult to find therapy when you have that type of insurance. They only hurry patients when it becomes 10 -15 minutes to the end of their appointment so that they have time to make notes into your file (kept on computer)before the next appointment. They try to get everyone in without any wait time at all.Your appointment with your therapist is 45 minutes long(the rest of the hour is used for your therapist to make notes into your case file) and 10-20 minutes with Dr Sandman. Dr Sandman is at the clinic on Thursdays only. She has other clinics she works at. She is one of the few psychiatrists that take Medicare and Medicaid because they are paid so little. She has a huge caseload and keeps track of all of her patients on the computer. She keeps a professional attitude and does use an extra five-ten minutes with the patients that need the time to discuss their medications. She works in tandem with a therapist. The therapist takes notes that Dr Sandman reads and interprets; she will ask you about certain things if she feels it is necessary. She is an MD and prescribes meds very carefully. She is not frivolous with prescriptions, she considers them very carefully. She prescribes to your pharmacy right there during your appointment. I found her rather closed at first because she is professional and my therapist was very open, but as I got to know her I realized what an incredibly nice and caring person she really is and how beautiful she is when she smiles. Appointments start early but the front desk does not open until 9am. They will ask yu or tell you that you need to call in to get an appointment. As I said, they have a huge caseload and some of their appointments for Dr Sandman can be 2-3 months out. This is a great place to be a patient and I recommend it to everyone. You can become a patient even though it does have a large amount of patients. They have a large staff of therapists and cover several types of therapy. read more
