Over the years I have prolly spent in excess of $15,000 out of pocket on hearing aids. There was the last occasion four and a half years ago when my daughter initiated a "Go Fund Me" campaign that netted $6,500 toward these two very powerful Phonak Nadia models. Thank you! For the last six to eight months I found that if I pulled on my earlobe (to open the canal) and cupped my hand behind my left "good ear" that I could pick up about forty-eight point four percent of the voice I focused on. My lip reading is most superior; bringing my cognitive ability to about seventy-five percent understanding. Not bad eh? Life is rich and God is Good, All the Time - I'm not one to complain to Him for why I'm made this way. Brings me to today...My appointment at Johns Hopkins was set a month ago. I was guarded on my expectation for this appointment, but eager nonetheless. Cooperating with Rachel the Audiologist at The Listening Center and the tests she performed in a never before experienced sound proof (psych proof) booth, I waited with my wife for the results. "Mr. T. she said, you have remarkable language skills and your lip reading is some of the best I have seen". She continued, "You are a prime candidate for the Cochlear Implant in your right ear as it is your worst side." As she turned it and pointed to the new hearing test print-out on her desk. I reached for a tissue and just wept. "Medicare pays everything for the Cochlear Implant too." "Did you hear me Mr. T.?" She looked at my wife and said "Let's just give him a minute." That was Monday morning. It's looking like it may go quick as I have my CT scan tomorrow 02042020 and I meet with the surgeon on the 26th.

Gail has been absolutely amazing! She made my initial adjustment to hearing aids as low stress as possible. She continues to show me many options to improve my hearing quality and to make life with hearing aids as easy as possible. Gail is always up on the latest technology and willing to try any and all adjustments to my hearing aids. I am now updating my hearing aids to connect with with my iPhone and the new technology that Gail suggested is great. In addition she is incredibly lovely. It's a family business and when I need back up, there are other family members to help. I would not go to any other audiologist. Gail is the best! About a year ago, I bought the third pair of hearing aids that I had purchased in approximately 5-6 years. The two prior agencies with which I had dealt improved my hearing (the second better than the first), but I continued to have difficulty hearing, for example, in noisy restaurants and when listening to TV. Because my goals were, of course, to hear clearly and be part of the conversation when in a crowd, I responded to one of A&A's advertisements describing the superiority of their hearing aids. Indeed, they were, and I gladly purchased a pair. The service I received following the purchase was excellent. Over the past several weeks, my wife and I noticed that my hearing was again declining. As soon as we returned from a recent vacation, we had the good fortune to meet with Dr. Martinson. We found her to be remarkably knowledgeable, pleasant and compassionate. When one calls to make an appointment, the automated voice says they are accepting new patients. I…read moremade an appointment and then when I called to reschedule, I could not get through to speak to anyone. The automated message said I was "7th in line, 13 minutes." In fact I tried calling several times throughout the day and each time I was further down the queue and l would have to wait longer in line. There was no option to leave a message and no email on their website I could use to cancel. I did not want to get charged for missing my appointment so I went to their office. There was only one person at the front desk and after I explained she informed me, "it doesn't surprise me, we are short staffed." I decided to fully cancel my appointment and go elsewhere. It seems to me that they are more than willing to add new patients but do not have enough front desk staff to appropriately support the patients' needs.

We brought our 2.5 year old to see Mandy and were with her for approximately 1.5 years. Mandy…read moreprovided just the right advice as well as engagement for our child (and as new parents, her experienced guidance and suggestions throughout also gave us peace of mind). Our toddler at the time was very shy, so her approach of play-based speech therapy was the ideal fit for a shy kiddo. He looked forward to sessions and didn't realize it was "work", but instead saw it as a fun activity where he was able to play with a variety of toys with an energetic playmate. I don't see how Mandy has the energy to play with the little ones all day, but she does--and really seems to enjoy it. The play/session environment is comfortable, welcoming, clean, and has a toy store's worth of different toys (and Mandy is always trying out new ones for the repertoire). Mandy immediately identified a structural issue that a previous formal evaluation from another speech therapist missed. Our child progressed wonderfully and is now outgoing, able to express himself clearly and with a range of vocabulary and sentence structures, and is doing advanced language and verbal work at school. Mandy has made an enormous difference in the life of my 9yo. My son has been in and out of various…read morespeech pathologist's offices since he was 4, and I could never hear or see a measurable difference in his speech until we found Mandy. The difference in a year with her is greater by far than the difference in 5 years with everyone else combined. I cannot say enough good things about our experience with her. She is incredibly effective as a speech pathologist, and the results are really clear. Even more than that, she is flexible, patient, adaptive and works with my son rather than at him. Her humor shines through steadily, and she is very kind, and my son can sense that and relaxes with her. She has specific, targeted exercises and games she goes through with him - he has only begun to figure out that the games are work - and gives us home practice in such a way that he knows what he needs to be doing and how to do it. My son can be a handful - so she works in movement breaks and tunes the games to his interests and approaches it with humor that makes him feel welcome. She gives prizes after so many stickers earned - set at a reasonable, attainable pace - and I noticed that, having figured out my son liked puzzles and stuffed animals, that the prizes being offered have quietly become things he enjoys. He vibrates for the opportunity to win them. Even the games have become quietly tuned to his needs and preferences; I've never seen so many games of Memory played. My son invented his own version of Go Fish with the articulation cards, and she went so far as to write down the rules so they could play it again. Seriously, she is *amazing*. As a note: my son went from throwing tantrums at the very idea of speech to cheerfully practicing at home and happily showing up to his speech therapy. Because she praises him for his effort and his progress and specifically what he is doing right, he can aim for that specific thing again and *believes her* when she tells him he's working and she can tell. I cannot tell you what a difference that has made. Most importantly, my son went, in less than a year, from being unintelligible unless someone had known him for years, to being a confident, talkative, outgoing kid with a lot to say. A few months in with Mandy, I stopped having to 'translate' for him. Months ago, he suddenly started talking non stop, because he could be understood and heard and participate. Before that, he only spoke that much with me, and he chose the most efficient script to short hand what he wanted to communicate, as speaking was tedious and hard work and he might have to repeat himself five times. Now, he is speaking happily and with assurance with his friends and with his teachers, and does not hesitate to step up and speak when called upon to do so. Mandy has made SUCH a difference in his life, and I am forever grateful. She is worth every penny and moment of time. I highly recommend her; you won't find a better speech pathologist.

When I arrived to this cozy, well maintained office a nice receptionist was most helpful as she answered all my before test questions. BringIng me an offered bottle of water, I was so pleased to be taken in a matter of minutes. When I found out I needed hearing aids -the staff could not be more accommodating. I just loved receiving my aids from Dr. Schwartz. She worked with me to get the perfect fit. She is professional and highly knowledgeable in her field. My 96 year old boss needed a new hearing aid charger. I was happy to find that The Hearing Doctors…read morein Rockville had one for sale. The receptionist told me I could bring it back for any reason. When I brought it back however, I was told by a different staff member that there would be a $75 restocking fee and that the person I spoke to was new and should have told me about that policy. Despite their failure to train their staff properly, the doctor made the decision to take advantage of a senior citizen and refused to waive the $75 restocking fee. Shameful and outrageous.

He quickly diagnosed my daughter (not only right frenulum, but tight upper lip), explained the condition, explained our options (we decided to proceed with the short procedure), and did the procedure efficiently and as gentle as possible, since she was only a week old.
