Repairs completed resulted in needing to be fixed by another shop, not once - but twice - within 3 - 6 months of Gene's shop fixing my truck. He offered a warranty originally over the phone and when asked for the shop to honor the verbal agreement in person he claimed he didn't offer it to begin with. LIterally driving down the road and parts fell off. He used subpar materials to begin with and the work is shoddy. I don't recommend using this location for repairs. Lies and headaches. I have an '01 Dodge Ram 2500 affectionately referred to as "The Hildabeast". I am one of those people who love driving, and my vehicles bring me an immense amount of happiness. This truck had been the perfect rig for a long time! But unfortunately, I was to become victim of the dreaded Curse of the "53" block. At around 238,000 miles, she finally gave out. I was overheating, and finally found the coolant leak. Sure enough, it was a cracked block. As I mentioned, I love my vehicles. I typically do my own work, but I didn't have the time, tooling, space, nor frankly the inclination for a project this big. I was pretty worried about where I would go to have the work done. I definitely wanted to keep the truck. It's my ultimate rig, with a 6 speed manual. It's my "retirement" truck. I spent the better part of a Saturday going over reviews of various places, and kept coming back to Sound Diesel. Reviews mean a lot to me, and Gene had some great ones, so I decided to take it to him. Gene immediately diagnosed the cracked block and was straight with me from the get go. "I don't do anything stock" he said and he gave me a quote. It was a good quote for the high quality work that I expected and I gave him the go ahead. I could tell from the start that Gene and I share the same philosophy....do the job once and do it right! Gene was amazing throughout the entire build process! He was very communicative, giving me constant updates as the work was being done, from tear down to buildup. He invited me down to the shop to inspect the block once it was out and torn down, and again several more times as the project continued. I was very impressed with the work, and the atmosphere of the shop. The mechanics he has working for him are also consummate professionals and I enjoyed chatting with them. Finally came the big day when Gene sent me a video of the truck being fired up for the first time, and man it lit right off! He then brought me down to the shop to take it for a drive. Holy sweet mother of whiplash! I knew that my truck was going to turn out good, but I had absolutely NO IDEA of the level of good!!!! This thing is a whole new animal!! Gene made some upgrades for me along the way and I am so glad I listened to his advice. The new clutch he put in is like butter, and the new tuner is much better and more user friendly! Best of all with the new, upgraded turbo, injectors, and Gene's master tuning, the power output is INCREDIBLE!!!!! I actually have to be more careful now because she will break loose without so much as thinking about it if I am not! Hilda is a whole new beast, and I would put her up against any new truck in her class! Sound Diesel, it doesn't look like much. But Gene the owner and mechanic. With his team of mechanics, know their stuff. I had a blown transmission, and he explained to me what the cause was and the problem. Did it in away that a non mechanic, could understand. Purchased a new vehicle and thought it had problems. Made an appointment to have it looked at and was explained what i thought were issues were normal, and he explained what they were clearly. Took extra time giving me some pointers on fuel additive to help clean the injectors and caught my air cleaner being plugged. Total cost of inspection and advice was a handshake and a thank you. Tragically we blew the engine in our diesel truck on the freeway. A quick check of local diesel shops showed Sound Diesel had good reviews. So that's where it was towed. Just a shot in the dark that this was a good shop. Gene is like "Rain Man" for diesel engines!!! He pulled out all the stops. Found is a new engine plus a whole bunch of other stuff. My understanding of internal combustion engines is pretty basic.... ie vroom vroom is good. BLAT blat not so good.. and knock knock blam is very very bad. My wife and I were in the Seattle area visiting our Grandchildren over Labor Day/21. We had driven from WV in our 2005 F350 CC FX4 truck camper powered by a 6.0L powerstroke diesel. On our drive out to Seattle we started to experience "hot start" problems with our truck. We called or stopped at a majority of the Ford Dealers in a 100 mile radius of Seattle and to say they were less than helpful would be an understatement. We were told it would be a minimum of 3 to 4 weeks before a mechanic could even look at the truck to diagnose the problem. Luckily my wife found Sound Performance Diesel on the net. We stopped by the shop unannounced and met with the owner Gene. Gene told us if we could bring the truck by in 3 days and leave it, he would try to diagnose the problem and provide an estimate. (We were driving a rental car). Gene was able to pinpoint the problem, gave us an estimate as to time and cost. Well, while Gene was fixing the problem he found several serious issues including a bad fuel injector, plugging oil inner-cooler, turbo charger exhaust manifolds and turbo actuator mechanism. Even though Gene was down a crew member, he and his team were able repair the additional engine issues in only a few days (half the time I was expecting) and at a very reasonable cost given parts were almost $2,500. It should be noted that I had the truck mechanically inspected and new fuel injectors and glow plugs installed only 8 months and 11,000 miles prior to Gene working on the truck. Sound Performance Diesel went beyond the call of duty to help us out and get us on our way. I had shared with Gene we would be leaving to drive back to our home in 2 days (6 days and 2,800 mile drive). On our 3rd day on the road Gene called me to check on how the truck was driving. I told him "like a dream". If you have a diesel truck and are located in western WA or find yourself in the area, I would highly recommend making the effort to take your diesel truck to Gene and his team at Sound Performance Diesel for repairs or a serious "checkup". So I'm an idiot and decided to read the internet when my duramax went into limp mode, I did the injector wire replacement on 2 and 7 but no fix. I had all kinds of issues going on and the dealership wanted a ton of money to even look at it. I went to sound diesel and talked to Gene and told him what was up with it. After some talk and dropping it off I found out the injections were bad and the water pump, glow plug and the injectors took out the ECM since I kept driving it. And gene never asked me to just believe him but always had proof from chevy to back his diagnosis; not only did he do that but he saved me a huge amount on money that the job should have costed. All in all I not only did I find an awesome shop to work on my truck but the owner and techs there are all friend now. Please don't hesitate to bring your diesel here. read more

In a nut shell this dude is a NUT!!! I see some positive reviews but idk he must have paid for them.. I never asked this guy for a hand out or a screaming deal that he would supposedly " loose his ass on" I just wanted somethings done mainly a pre-sale inspection which was going to cost $300- $350 and I was fine with paying because he said that money would be forwarded to any repairs done in the shop... ok cool!! Inspection per "nut" was GREAT TRUCK no problems and by the way no charge for the inspection ... uh k weird... then deterred me from getting a fuel system installed quoted at $900 installed, instead lead me to just a different filter set up.. ok all good , now for the real reason he was saving me money.. he had a set of wheels and tires for sale that would fit my truck at a SCREAMIN DEAL!!!! ( turns out I looked at the other sets before I bought his all the same price used ) but I did prefer his set which he said came with a matching spare ( I have a witness ) so I got the wheels and tires, alignment filter, and level kit after all said and done looking over my truck found 2 holes in the roof, a leaking brake booster, kinked supply and return lines bad backup sensors and I may have a bad injector ( all would have been nice to know before I bought the truck)... I called to inquire about the missing matching spare which now became a tire that he just had somewhere and had to find it but it had no wheel.. then I simply asked about a part installed and where it was located because I just didn't see it OMG don't ask these questions because your attacking him like a pit bull off a leash and calling him a LIAR!!! I got him to say they were at the bottom of the shock ( extention ) nope don't see them ( now they are at the top of the shock.. ) oh ok way up there I looked and found them cool.... never once did I call him a liar or try to insinuate he was lying and I tried to explain that to him trying to keep as calm as possible but now I was arguing with him funny thing is he did the same thing to my buddy when he asked a question regarding his truck...he loves hearing himself talk and strokes the hell out of his little ego and he obviously don't need new business because he thinks he can treat customers like that we'll I hope more people that may have experienced this yelp about it after reading this good luck Ralphy.. read more
