She's amazing as well! She gets the class super hyped up and pushed us to our limits in a fun way! They have a student promotion for March, unlimited ride for $20! Low lights, loud music, sweat drippin and the perfect amount of motivation is how I would describe SoulCycle. I've been to a couple of SoulCycle's throughout my life and this location in Short Hills did not disappoint. Parking was super easy to find since SoulCycle is in a plaza that doesn't get too busy. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful with getting my rental shoes before I went into class. My first class was with Erin at 8:30 am on a Monday. I thought the class would be packed but it was actually the opposite. There were only a handful of us in class and while I thought Erin's routine and music selection were good ... the energy was lacking. As an instructor myself I definitely think if there were more people in the room it would be a completely different experience. ALSO, they left me a really nice note welcoming me back to SoulCycle which I thought was a really nice touch. My second class was with Nicolette on a Wednesday at 6:00 pm and it was jumpin'. When I walked in I was greeted with people with bald caps on haha. SoulCycle is known for doing themes every once in awhile. Little did I know I was there for the Mr.Worldwide ride (Pitbull). The instructor and some of the students dressed up which was a lot of fun. Although this class wasn't full either I was smiling, laughing, singing along and working hard because the energy in the room was high. At the end of class Nicolette gave us such an inspiring takeaway to remind us to keep going ... even when you're not sure where you're headed ... keep going! Out in the 'burbs for X-Mas time means a few things are going to go down and the main one is going to involve eating a ton of delicious, high caloric food. So, when I looked to see that both Flywheel and Soul Cycle were both in the town or two over from the in-laws, I knew I'd spend XMas morning with all the other Jews and childless adults in the Short Hills-Millburn area working up a sweat. It was a packed class, which is great, because empty classes are always a bit sad. Expecting a discount for Soul Cycle in the Jersey 'burbs? Don't. $34 plus a shoe rental puts ya at $37 for a 45 minute class. The outpost is a bit small, similar size to the one's I've been to in Manhattan. Two bathrooms, two showers and one somewhat more spacious studio. Now, not gonna lie, I was a bit apprehensive about suburban soul cycle. A big part of these classes is the music, and who knows who the teacher may be out these ways. A middle aged mum blaring easy listening? Not the case here. Naz rocked it. Great hip hop, throw in some Whitney Houston and we worked it hard with a fun dancey addition to the workout. Not familiar with Soul Cycle - it's a 45 minute intense spin work out with about a 5-7 minute "break" in the middle where you focus on light weight arm workout. However, this "light weight" arm workout ends up being unbearable by the end, so it's no easy feat. The music is always high energy, lights are dimmed and there's more of a fun dance/cycle to the beat routine. Staff in the front were super nice. The guy got his class free for it being his first time. He loved it and left soaked to the bone, but did say he couldn't imagine dropping $34 on it. Although I don't agree, I do think it's justified. It's expensive, there is no way getting around that, but if you're jonesing for a really good sweat, Soul Cycle is such a fun and gratifying way to start any morning, Christmas or not. If this review was based just upon the class, it would have easily gotten five stars. I took Erica's class today - she is awesome. Inspiring, encouraging, kept me going. The beautiful thing about this particular class is Erica dedicated it to The March for Our Lives protest happening throughout the country today. The second to last song played was "Shine," a song written by two survivors of the FL school shooting. Riding with the class to this song, bikes so close together, I felt as though we were all working together towards a common goal. The studio smelled amazing! And the place is so clean! Staff is friendly; helped me set up my bike and clip in my shoes so I can ride comfortably. Now the not so great. $34 for 45 minutes is super expensive. Additionally this location is small. Two bathrooms, I waited in line five minutes before the class started. Between classes there's about 100 people cramped into a small "locker room" trying to get their stuff out of a locker/into a locker. It's unisex too so not for those who are bashful changing in front of the opposite sex. If SoulCycle had another special I would consider going back. The location isn't ideal and they are plenty of other options local which makes me reluctant to go back. read more

Amazing! It was my boyfriend and I's first time trying soul cycle since I moved to the area. I have the day booking the class was super easy and the staff were sooo nice! They helped us get adjusted on the bikes and checked in on us to make sure we had a good time. The instructor was very encouraging and informative. We went in hip hop Wednesday which was so fun. It's always great to workout to the same music you would normally listen to. I'd totally recommend trying this exercise class out. I have been going to Kaley's 5:45am Monday/Wednesday "Rooster" classes at SoulCycle Short Hills for over a year now and can genuinely say that this time slot has changed the way I view "working out," the beauty and importance of starting your day early (I've ALWAYS been a night owl until the class,) and helps me enter my work day feeling stronger, more balanced and confident. I should also mention that I used this class as a source of cross training while training for my second NYC Marathon and not only did it help with building my endurance, but more importantly, because Kaley is truly a master with her words (think of exercising while listening to the most incredible motivational podcast) I was able to push through some of the more difficult parts of the marathon because I was able to channel her energy, encouragement and mantras. If you are looking for an endorphin release, a sense of community (I didn't know a single "soul" when I first started, but after only a couple of classes the instructors and people at the front desk already knew me by name), and a killer workout (you'll definitely be feeling it the next day), then I highly recommend giving a class a "spin"! read more

For the past three years, I have been finding my Soul in Short Hills with various instructors over college breaks. This is not just another spin class. Even right before fully booked classes, the front desk staff are always warm and welcoming. It is clear that customer service is a huge part of the SoulCycle mission, and it is clearly translated through the instructors as well. I have ridden with a minimum of 10 instructors who always play fun and engaging music and teach a class that makes the world outside of the 52-bike room a distant reality. I try to ride with Erika whenever I can because her classes provide the perfect blend of challenge and motivation -- not to mention her great music (she has hosted multiple Hamilton theme rides, need I say more?) SoulCycle truly is as fun as it is a great workout, and I can always count on this studio to boost my mood and burn a few calories. It may be pricey, but the $34 is cheaper than therapy. read more

There is absolutely no denying that SoulCycle is a transcendent experience!!! From the moment you walk into the studio, it is made very clear why they have such a cult following. Their retail section is fabulously merchandised, their signature scent is wafting through the air, the staff at the front desk is super-bubbly, welcoming and informative...the list goes on. and on. and on as you venture further inside. Keypad lockers so no need to bring a lock. Very clean and well stocked ladies room - blow dryer, tampons, hair ties and whatever other toiletries you may need - all matching back to their signature yellow/black/white/grey colors. Damn I love good branding!! It just makes me want to remain within the environment and soak it all in. BE part of it. And that's what happens when you go inside the actual studio to ride!! My first class was the Sunday 11:45am with Christina P. - I don't know about the other instructors (yet) but she was awesome. Oh. My. Gosh. Like no other cycling class I have been to, the rooms that go from dark to dim with adjustable lighting just within the instructor's reach is ingenious. That you feel like she has suddenly become the DJ for your life is a whole 'nother story. As she motivates you through 45 grueling minutes of intense cardio, pushing you only to YOUR limit, NOT that of the chick in front of you that is a veteran and booked her bike the day and minute it became available, you are thankful for being in this place - this space where you feel you can do anything!! Your soul comes alive as you sweat out the toxins of the outside world in those 45 minutes and the reason that they charge $34 per class becomes evidently clear!! A bit pricey- yes, but go ahead and take that first free class here in Short Hills and you, too, will quickly and very willingly want to become part of the most soulful, stylish cult around. Soul Cycle just wasn't for me. I went with a group of three friends about a month ago. Two really enjoyed it, and two of us really didn't. First of all, we all agreed 35 dollars was absurdly expensive for a class that lasted less than an hour. I pay around 50 a month for a yearly membership for a gym, so 35 for one class is crazy to me. So they lose the first star for price. There was a lot of hype about the ambiance in the room. Dimmed lights for privacy and peace of mind, adjustable bikes for personal comfort, specific playlists and workouts by instructor, and some of that was really nice. What I will say is the staff and the instructor we had were very nice. My only gripe with them would be one guy came in and was helping me adjust my bike, because I'd never ridden a stationary bike before. I told him he had put it too high and I could barely touch the pedals with my feet, but he just moved on to the next bike. The whole 35 minutes was a struggle to ride because I could barely reach the pedals. The space itself was very clean, has a nice locker area, and they provide you with a towel and weights. They do sell a lot of Soul Cycle gear in the front, and the average shirt retailed for over 50, don't know why I was so surprised by that especially because the classes are so expensive. I'm not sure if I would go to Soul Cycle again. It didn't necessarily wow me enough to justify the money it costs to go multiple times. The other reason I'm demoting them a star is because when I paid they make you give them your email and they email you a receipt. I told them I did not want to do this, and I did not any emails with coupons, promos, anything like that. The girl behind the counter swore they never email anything like that, it would just be the one receipt. Well I've gotten over six emails from them, which is annoying because I was told I wouldn't get any. If you're going to put me on some list for emails, give people the option to opt out! read more

Although I am not a class person, Soul Cycle was a lot of fun. The class begins with a warm up and then you move, or attempt to move, to the beat of the songs that are played until the cool down. Some light weights and body movements are also incorporated. There is a cool down and a stretch. I am in pretty good shape and I left this class sweating! Riding to the music definitely keeps your pace up. The facility is very clean and the staff was friendly and not intimidating, which I appreciate as someone who does not take classes often. The cycle room is kept very dark and candles are lit in the room. In kind of feels "culty" when you're in there but I think theres a vibe that Soul Cycle is trying to create by doing that. I loved the amount of positive reinforcement the instructor and the whole brand promotes. Thats awesome! The class I took was a "Dance" class. It was good. From what my sister in law said, the hip hop classes are a lot "more fun" and having a good instructor can make or break the class. I wouldn't consider the class we took "broken" but I could see the potential for better. I have actually incorporated the idea of moving to the beat of the song into my cardio workouts beyond cycling, so I'm glad to have taken the class for gain a fitness tip! read more

Finally decided to try soulcycle after hearing about it for years! I had taken numerous spin classes before but all at my gym. The facilities were really nice, clean and new and the spin room very nice as well however I was surprised that the bikes don't have meters to show you your mileage and heart rate. The class itself was engaging and fun but I guess maybe it wasn't all I expected it to be especially at the hefty $37 price tag. I wish I felt more challenged! I've been coming to Soul in Short Hills since the location opened a few years ago and I haven't looked back since! I love how mindful the classes are. Working out is so much easier for me when my mind is occupied with the activity and that's exactly what soul does. Cycling to the beat of awesome music really helps to clear my head and I usually find myself so much more relaxed after class. The instructors are awesome, inspiring and entertaining. They are what makes the classes so great. I am always surprised by how they actually manage to get me to work harder than I thought I could. It also helps that they are super friendly and always promote a positive and non-judgmental space, which is extremely important to me. I took my first ever Soul Cycle class with Kaley at 5:45AM. I have taken previously cycling classes but never at Soul Cycle. From the moment I entered the door the staff was extremely helpful. I told them it was my first class and they gave me a pair of shoes and signed me in. They showed me how to work the lockers with the built in locks and helped me set up my bike. When Kaley started class she welcomed me to the class and wE got started right away. Kaley was a great, positive, confident and helpful instructor that made my first Soul Cycle class become less intimidating. The other riders were also very kind and nice at the end of class & told me how well I rode for my first class. I am giving this location a 5/5 because parking is great, you do not have to worry about finding a spot before class and the staff were extremely kind and patient with me that they are deserving of a 5 star rating. I went in expecting to be intimidated and annoyed by super-hot, holier than thou, disinterested instructors. I knew I would get a good workout, but the rest made me nervous. Well, the instructor and the rest of the staff really blew my mind. They were so friendly and helpful. I went with a friend. It was both of our first time, and everyone was really great to us. The studio itself is beautiful too-- lots of nice amenities and toiletries (free hair ties are such a nice touch!). I was pumped that this class was free for first timers and I would go all the time if it weren't so expensive. That is the only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5-- $34 a pop is just a lot of money! Said they would take free class coupon and would refund my money. 4 days later no refund so I called and they said I would not be refunded the money because free classes could not be used if the seat was booked in advance. One thing I really like about soul cycle is consistency. There is coherence among the decor and setup of all their studios and the instructors are of a certain caliber. Unlike flywheel, they're all also in uniform, which is nice. I came into my first class wanting to hate it as I knew it would quickly drain my bank account. I have had friends try SoulCycle and while they complained it was expensive, they all loved it. After the first class I was hooked. I have been coming for several months now and every time I feel like the rides keep getting better. They set me up on the bike all proper. We had an Illmatic instructor named Nasty Naz. She crushed it with a few classic bangers like No Diggity. The workout was intense. I was completely soaked afterwards. I really had a blast. I must say, however, I don't think I would pay the $50ish per class (including shoe rentals) that Soul Cycle costs. But I'm a cheap ass. The only reason they lost a star was for the price. SoulCycle is of incredible quality, but 34$ plus the likely 2$ you'll spend on shoes and another possible 2$ for water is ridiculous. Drive from a little farther away like me and you'll have highway tolls, too. If they even made it 28$-30$ I would consider it quite reasonable, but a fitness class that pushes 40 bucks is absurd. Almost makes me think that they're attempting to weed out a certain kind of athlete from their classes. However, I keep coming back around once a week because of how fun it is. The staff is great, and while some people may not be into this aspect of the brand, coming from a hippie mother I actually think the instructor "mantras" and candlelit class portions are pretty awesome. Most importantly, the workout is HARD. I am an NCAA final-four college lacrosse player who participates in fitness every day across the board- I'm a big runner, ran track in high school, I'm an avid crossfitter, I lift thrice a week, and just did a triathlon. This being said, I wouldn't waste time and money on a sh***y workout. However, the difficulty of this class is UP TO YOU- it is not the instructor's job to babysit you and crank up your resistance knob. I get frustrated with people who claim that SoulCycle is an inadequate workout. Yeah, if you sit there going 100mph through class with minimal weight on your wheel and barely break a sweat, which I see plenty of women do, you'll get nothing out of it. There have been many times in SC classes both in Short Hills and NYC where I have nearly thrown up from the level of intensity..... in a good way!! All in all, if you know how to push yourself, you will be satisfied with the way you spent your time and money in this fitness endeavor. P.S. ROGER IS THE BEST. Seriously. Especially if you are an athlete, his class will RESONATE with you and seriously push you. Noa used to teach here a few years ago, and now I think only teaches in the city, but he is also a BOSS. I lost all my athletic ability and climbing up the stairs in my house became a chore. But then I found Soul. Soul is not about weight loss. Soul is a journey to find yourself. This SoulCycle location gives you the best of both worlds: SoulCycle's world-class instructors and class experience, and a close and intimate studio environment close to home. The studio has a fifty bike occupancy, and a small changing area that consists lockers, two restrooms, and two showers. The staff and instructors at Short Hills foster a fun and positive environment in the studio, and do a good job organizing different theme rides and celebrating rider birthdays. My very first SoulCycle ride was here with Bevin. Definitely would recommend taking her class along with the other talented instructors that teach here! read more
