I will never give a SoulCycle anything less than a rave review, but this is one of the best studios in Manhattan. They actually have two studios, one full-sized and one that's a little smaller so that more classes can be packed in. Everything is super clean and orderly as always and the staff are always so nice. There's plenty of retail in the lobby, though locker space could be bigger. There are locker rooms downstairs, but the cramped stairs make for tons of traffic in between classes. Of course, this isn't really their fault. Regardless, I always enjoy coming to Soul and this location features some of the most prominent instructors. There are a lot of great and healthy food options in the area so I love coming up here on the weekends and having a full day of wellness.

I am a big, big fan of SoulCycle and go pretty often. I have been to almost all of the studios in NYC and Westchester so I am now going to start finally reviewing them all! This location is the studio I go to the most often as it is the closest - only a few blocks - from my apartment. But it is also one of my favorites. It is a very big studio, two floors and two studios. The main level is the two studios, one main one and one smaller one. They have a couple lockers and a single person bathroom upstairs along with their apparel for sale. Then downstairs is the locker rooms. On big area full of lockers and benches that is a multi gender area, all the lockers also are built with their own locks, so you don't have to worry about bringing your own. Then there is a men and women's locker room. Each equip with multiple showers, bathrooms, areas to get ready, etc. Coming to SoulCycle you really feel like you're getting pampered because all of their products and amenities are so nice. The showers are stocked with Le Labo products (shampoo, conditioner, body wash and and face wash), they recently just added some drunk elephant facial items like a cream and serum that I was so excited to try yesterday and I loved, they have the Dyson blow driers, endless towels, spray on deodorant, face wash, lotion, hair ties, q-tips, pretty much anything you need. As far as the class itself goes, I love SoulCycle, it is a fun, upbeat, motivating and challenging workout and you feel so good when it is done. I have never had a bad instructor, they are all really great. They incorporate choreography like push ups, weights and more into the class to really make it full body, everyone leaves the room dripping in sweat. I take the T/Th class at 7:30 a lot here with the Taylor and he is so great. He is so positive and always changes up the workout so it never gets boring! Shoes and a Fiji water come with your class which is great. They also provide a towel on each bike, so you really don't have to worry about bringing anything. And everyone at this location is really really nice (they are at all the locations tho)! This is prob my favorite location in the city!

Lance offers a methodical approach to understanding bike mechanics and principles of balance, coupled with practical advice for riders at all levels. I received a customized program that moved at a pace which I was comfortable with and allowed me to develop beginner bike skills which made me a confident rider. Throughout my lessons, Lance was a professional instructor who routinely adjusted his program to address my concerns. An excellent choice for anyone learning or looking to advance their riding skills!

I'm in my thirties and up until this year had given up on ever learning to ride a bike. While…read morelearning when I was young, I suffered an injury and the method my mother used to try and teach me was pretty awful. As an adult, I considered myself uncoordinated, out of shape, and terrified of both the physical dexterity and the mental focus it took to pay attention to my surroundings in order to ride safely. All that changed when I booked with Virtuous Bicycle! I was up and riding on my second lesson, doing independent starts, stops and turns by the end. I opted to continue the training with 2 follow-up lessons, with the last lesson in Central Park. Hills, gears, tourists - all of it! :) Lance is amazing. A native New Yorker, he's got an honest but warm manner about him. He's intelligent and very well spoken, there is no vagueness and no "just balance" type of feedback, and not an ounce of judgment. Whoever you are, whatever your story, Lance can work with you. I was a Bike NY refugee- the Parks Department offers free group classes to help adults learn to ride. While this is an incredible resource, after 2 classes I found the lack of constructive feedback and large, chaotic class setting to be challenging at best. In my case, I'm not sure that I would have ever gotten to the point where I could ride had I used their classes alone, but they are good supplemental resources. Not trashing the Parks Department, love you guys too! You start by filling out a comprehensive questionnaire that aims to better understand your learning and life style, as well as any history with bikes or trying to learn, and your goals and deadlines. Everything is personalized and tailored to you. Lance communicates with you via email before your first lesson even begins. I got to watch a video about how bicycles work, how they can actually ride without a driver on them, how physics keeps the bike upright and balanced. After each lesson, Lance would either send me a refresher email to reinforce the concepts we had worked on, or one with new information to help prepare for my next. These include things like visualization exercises, or videos on ABC Quick Check (an easy to remember method to make sure your bike is in good working order before every ride). The practice locations are nice, wide open spaces free of people. You won't have gawkers, you won't have to worry about crashing into children or running over small dogs. And the lessons themselves are extremely well thought out- his directions are easy to follow. If you're having a specific problem, Lance offers a specific solution, based in physics and logic. Breathe- you got this! Rates are clearly listed on the website and are cheaper than most therapists lol. You'll learn a lifelong skill that teaches confidence, autonomy, and makes you feel like you're freakin flying! I couldn't be happier :)

But in Peloton, I have found something that works for me: 1) The privacy of my own home keeps me from feeling embarrassed about my fitness level or ability to keep up. 2) The convenience of the bike being in my own home eliminates my favorite, lifelong excuse for not working out, the convenience factor. 3) The leaderboard gives me an element of competition without the judgy onlookers I always felt I was subject to (real or perceived) at cycle gyms or spin classes. 4) Once I'm on the bike, I have no intention of not finishing, and while I'm there, I might as well add 10 minute arms class and a good stretch. 5) Instructors like Tunde really make the bike for me. I literally miss her voice in my head if I go to long between rides. I need her encouraging "C'mons" to keep me going. I'm taking off one star for something that makes me insane about Peloton. The freaking branding could not be worse. Do you know who Peloton appeals to the very most? The XL crew. The crew that has never felt comfortable going to the gym or changing in a locker room. But will you ever see a single person who is bigger than an XS in their advertisements? Never. They've gotten so much shit for their goofy ass ads set in glass box houses overlooking rainforests and high rise apartments with the Peloton looking out over sweeping views of the city. The pandemic would have been the perfect time to showcase all the lo-fi, no-frills, no nonsense people and places of Peloton. But instead, we just keep getting the glistening fitness models who have never gone a day without their green juice. Why not show the world that Peloton is for everyone? They'd probably change a lot more lives.

Unfortunately, the third-party company Peloton uses for service was one of the worst experiences I've ever had, both based on my experience and the reviews I later read online. It's honestly shocking that Peloton partners with a company like this. The first appointment was scheduled, and I took a day off work expecting the issue to be resolved. The technician never showed up -- no call, text, or email. I had to call Peloton myself only to be told the technician had called out sick. I rescheduled for the following week and took another day off work. The second appointment resulted in another no-show. Again, no communication whatsoever. After contacting Peloton yet again, I was informed the technician could not make it due to traffic. By the third appointment, my frustration was already through the roof. The technician finally arrived, but showed up wearing sweats and slippers, which was extremely unprofessional and not at all what I would expect representing a premium brand like Peloton. I had clearly requested during all three appointments that the technician call 30 minutes before arrival. Instead, I received no notice until he was already outside my home. Because of the repeated delays and time off work, I had no choice but to work from home that day and was in the middle of a meeting when he repeatedly called me back-to-back until I answered. I could see him outside through my cameras, but I was expecting the agreed-upon 30-minute notice. He ultimately waited only about five minutes. When I addressed the lack of communication, the technician attempted to blame his assistant for not calling me. I explained that ensuring proper communication with customers is ultimately the technician's responsibility. At that point, he diagnosed the issue and informed me a replacement part would need to be ordered, requiring yet another appointment. To make matters worse, when I contacted Peloton to order the part, I was initially told I would need to pay approximately $120 out of pocket despite the repeated scheduling failures and poor service experience. During that call, the representative actually hung up on me. I had to call back again, and while the final representative was at least more helpful, I still ended up paying for the part simply to move the process forward. Once the part arrived, I refused to have the outsourced service company return to my home. Thankfully, my husband was able to replace the part himself and get the machine working properly. Overall, this was an incredibly disappointing experience from a company that markets itself as premium. Between the repeated no-shows, lack of communication, unprofessional service, and poor customer support, Peloton completely failed to deliver acceptable customer service. Based on this experience, I would not recommend Peloton to others.

With the first class ending around 10:15am, by the time you head out it's almost lunch time. I think the earliest weekday class may be 7am, which can be a challenge if you have to be at work early. Check in is easy and staff are friendly. It gets very crowded fast trying to find a spot to sit and change shoes or get to a locker. Even worse when the next class shows up and you are trying to exit the studio and change shoes. There two single restrooms and a tight fit by the mirror once you step outside of a restroom. They offer hair ties, spray deodorant, Malin & Goetz lotion, ear plugs... fairly standard. There are no showers, but they noted I could shower downstairs at Pure Barre because they share. An employee helped set up my bike before class started. The studio felt like most crowded cycle studios in NYC. The air circulation wasn't the best and I noticed they kept opening the door every so often. A little distracting when the studio is dark but you periodically get the bright lights from the doors opening. Music wasn't really my favorite. Overall friendly staff, but I didn't leave feeling like I had an intense workout. This location was a bit out of the way for me and felt very cramped from seating to restrooms. Perhaps the other studio locations are more spacious?
