I purchased the new client package which is 2 classes so this is my experience on those. This was completely new to me and the girl in the welcome desk assured me that my instructor would explain the machine to me and provide assistance (she didn't). Class starts and the instructor starts yelling instructions with a timer in her hand, the pros knew what to do and I just watched them cause I was completely lost, at some point the girl next to me assisted me which was super kind of her but should've been the instructor's job. The whole experience felt super unsafe as a first timer and a waste of money cause there were 0 corrections when clearly they were needed if another client felt the need to help. The only reason I gave it 3 stars was because I returned to get my money's worth and took my 2nd class with Liz. She was kind, giving corrections as needed in class, and there was a first timer in our class and before class started she went over and explained the machine and how to use it and helped her anytime she needed help in class, so clearly I just got really unlucky my first time. I actually walked out feeling like I worked out and feeling great. Moral of the story, so pick your instructor wisely... read more

Sorry I was slow and my form wasn't good. I felt out of place :( and felt behind during classes.. It not good for beginner if you are really bad.. I'm not recommending it for anyone who never tried it. First class the instructor was ok and help. 2nd time was disappointing and I never went back, felt embarrass. Spectacular location! I've only been to their soho location, and this one was much bigger and newer I felt like. However, I base classes on the instructors and quality of the class which are top notch at either location. My instructor yesterday was heather, who was exceptionally detailed at explaining the moves and machine settings while still being able to move quickly through. From the first few minutes, my abs and arms were already burning excessively which felt SO good. I like how each side and muscle group was worked efficiently and effectively, I definitely feel the soreness in those spots that normally get skipped over during my usual cardio and HIIT workouts. I definitely want to work this class more into my schedule as it really holds benefits and a burn that I don't always get! read more

SLT wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. And I left wondering what some of the raving reviews were all about. The studio is bright and airy, located on the second floor with a good amount of windows and bright white walls. They have lagree reformer machines and follow the lagree method pilates during the class, which is so great if you're already familiar with that (like I was)! But the instructor wasn't super enthusiastic, and I didn't feel very sore the next day. For the price, there are other pilates studios in the area that I like more. But if you get a deal through classpass and need a lighter workout, this isn't by any means a bad spot! read more

My fave teachers! These guys teach at all the NYC SLT locations: HEATHER-She is by far the hardest but best teacher I've worked with. Her understanding of physiology and her ability to give good corrections is amazing. Her routines are hard and she demands fast transitions between exercises so you get the most of your time. KATIE-She's new on the schedule and I love her! Really hard routines, great music, great corrections and she's so cute and upbeat she just makes you feel happy! SAMMY-He's not on the schedule nearly enough. I hope they give him more classes. While most of the teachers are dancers, Sammy comes from more of a personal trainer background and it shows in his teaching style. His routines are challenging and you are sore the next day. He has a great attitude which keeps you motivated! Caitlin-Her classes are really hard and she knows how to PUSH you. She doesn't give as many corrections so I recommend her for people who have done SLT a few times and know what they are doing because her class is NO MERCY! read more

I love SLT the workout. I love the instructors and this is by far the best pilates method I have tried. However, the corporate side of this company is all out of whack which is why it pains me to write this review. I have repeatedly been let down by them and their mismanagement. They are constantly running promotions and contests, which i participate in, and then they are unable to maintain their end of the bargain or just straight up don't answer their emails. Makes me really begin to consider switching to SolidCore even though I don't like it as much. I'm over 100 classes into SLT also, so it's not like I was born yesterday. I've spent some real money here and they can't even give me the courtesy of honoring what they are selling from a promotional standpoint. Very disappointing read more

I never write reviews but had a very frustrating experience that will make me rethink ever signing up for an SLT class again. I scheduled four spots in the Upper East Side class over a week ago and today we are in the midst of a blizzard. Offices are closing early, and unfortunately the clients I was scheduled to take to this class were unable to make it since my clients were traveling home to outside of the city. I fully understand having a 24 hour cancellation policy, however I assumed for an extenuating circumstance like a blizzard SLT would be a bit understanding, especially since it was all of our first time signing up. I spoke with Rachel who could have cared less that it was a blizzard outside and explained that there was nothing she could do and would not credit back the classes. She claimed other people have been able to make it to the class and me and my clients should have as well. I would expect a bit more customer service from such an expensive class, at 40 dollars a session. read more

Loved the class. The instructor was great and attentive. I was nervous initially because there are 12 machines and i was concerned that it would be a full class. My one massive complaint and what will keep me from coming back was that the music was too loud. But loud music and the mega formers is kind of SLT's shtick. There also happened to be a lot of on your wrist work which could be a problem if you have bad wrists. Check it out. There is a $20 first class trial. The second they put up a class with lower volume music, I would be back but not as the classes stand now. read more

Really happy with how effective and challenging this class was. I loved the instructor (I give her max stars) & can see SLT shredding bodies. My only feedback is, I couldn't hear instruction for 2/3 of the class because the music was as loud or louder than the class mic. Our instructor demo'd throughout and helped us each with form personally and that was really great. The music was just muffling. I'm assuming louder music is across studio standard, but my slightly older yet acute hearing really struggled to register most cues. I'm wondering if anyone else had this issue at any location and class. She was wonderful, I completely got a great workout in; I'd only wish the music wasn't so loud & the mic was more clear, especially as a newbie. read more

I was pretty stoked to give SLT a try, because I'd heard so much about it. It's true, you will be in extreme pain and experience soreness for the following 3-4 days. I had to take a tylenol because I was that sore. I would liken SLT to a Barry's Bootcamp/Crossfit version of pilates. It's definitely the most intense form of pilates I've ever taken - I don't even know that it can really be considered a pilates class, as I always considered it a form of stretching/toning exercise... there's not much stretching at SLT. There's also no rest period in-between the bootcamp-like exercises that the class entails. Also, for the price point, I had higher expectations for the upkeep of the studio. The space itself is nice, but it definitely wasn't very clean. With all the sweating going on, I think they should mop up the floors in-between every 2-3 classes. The floor just looked really sticky and dirty. All that aside, though, the instructor and receptionist were very friendly. I did like that they were super conscious of new students and the assignment to which reformer they used. I also liked that class sizes were on the smaller side, so you could receive a bit more attention when it came to correct form. For sure, SLT is a great workout and I'm glad I tried it, but probably not my thing. read more

So if you wanna hobble and moan in pain up a staircase after 30 minutes after your first workout. This is the place for you. People kept recommending this place to me, and I grabbed one of my friends and we took a class. Though I mean, her train was late and she missed the class but in theory it was both of us. I took a 730 am class with Caroline, the receptionist (who was so sweet!) gave me a quick low down of the machine, I've used a reformer before so I was kind of familiar. They got started immediately and I fumbled to get in position but quickly learned the ropes. They really pushed working slow, which isn't something I normally do, but I can tell it works the muscles so much more. I work out quite a bit, so I was able to keep up with most but I was winded a few times, but I didn't feel embarrassed at all to just lay on the reformer and rest for a second. Caroline was super sweet as well, she'd come over and adjust your position if you were out of place, but again never made you feel bad about it. I've been to too many classes where I felt like an idiot for making a mistake, it wasn't here though. I left and bought the three class package which I'm super excited to use, my friend who missed her class was able to get her class credited back to her account so she could use it which I thought was really nice of them to do, because a lot of places don't do that. Really excited to start working out here! Ps: socks with grippies are required here, I thankfully knew to buy some before I came from the email, but you can also rent them for three dollars at the desk. read more

I loved my first class at SLT! My instructor (Lanae) was awesome, very helpful, knowledgeable and corrected me several times throughout the class. She was very attentive in the beginning of class introducing me to the Megaformer and giving me the rundown about how the class would go. I was sweating a lot and sore for like 3 days! I was definitely working small muscles I wasn't used to working and I felt like it was highly effective. I think after a few more classes I would be even more comfortable with the Megaformer and would gain incredible strength in areas that I don't usually feel when I work out. I highly recommend checking out SLT if you like a challenging workout and are looking to up your game a bit. read more

SLT is a no joke pilates class. Seriously you will work out muscles you never knew you had. The exercises are unique and I could see how doing this class consistently would give amazing results. The location here is nice, lots of light and a nice open space. My biggest critique is that it's hard to understand the instructions for each workout over the music. Between the fuzzy microphone and blasting music I had to rely on watching the people next to me to fully understand what to do and the exact positions. A friend from D.C. told me about the awesomely excruciating workout she had with a Megareformer. My interest was piqued and upon googling, I found SLT as one of the few studios in NYC offering Megareformer classes. I signed up, very excited to try. I love pilates (though we are a bit estranged these days), and I was looking forward to a reformer based class with a cardio element added to the workout. Plus they have a $20 rate for the first class. Sold. The studio is okay. They tried a little with some paint, but it's really just a basic studio with 12 megareformers, a mirrored wall and lots of windows. Checkin was uneventful. Per the instructions on my email confirmation, I arrived 15 minutes early for my first class so I would be able to get "training" on how to use my Megareformer. There were two other newbies in my class, yet the instructor (her name escapes me) spent the majority of minutes before class chatting with attendees with whom she was familiar. It was not until a minute or so before class was scheduled to start that she inquired who were first-timers and then gave brief and largely unhelpful instructions. The workout was good. I mean, in all honestly, I was sweating and everything hurt like hell the next day. But the entire time, I was consciously aware of how hard I was working. And I think the sweating was in large part from my utter lack of preparedness and constant fear that I would somehow slip fall, injury myself and be unable to earn a living for the rest of my life. Seriously. The Megareformer is a little scary. I was recovering from a stress fracture in my foot (death to ballet flats) and maybe this contributed to my apprehension, but the fact that I received zero instruction or guidance did not help. The set up of the class was not the best since it was challenging to see what other more experienced attendees were up to. The movements were also not intuitive and verbal instructions (at least from the instructor I had) generally did not make much of a difference and I was frankly confused for much of the class. But like I said, awesome workout. Definitely a full body workout. But every moment of it was dreadful. After my first class I received an email offering three classes for $100 as a new comer special. I bough it. But a las, I did not go to a single class. I would schedule them and then minutes before, be overcome with dread and I honestly didn't feel with other classes. Maybe I would have felt differently if my first class experience was better, the instructor more helpful and the music better (it was awful). Given the plethora of options in NYC and the outrageous price point (I think $40) for SLT's Megareformer class, I honestly don't think it's really worth it. Absent a promotion I don't think I am likely to return. read more

I was hoping to love SLT but initial encounter was not favorable. The first class I was scheduled by my daughter on her account. The desk attendant stated that she was allowed to sign up another person so we would not be entitled to a refund. I tried to explain that it was a mistake but the girl at the desk just said "that sucks". Also they did not ask me to sign a waver for my daughter to exercise or ask about any physical limitations ( she has serve scoliosis ). read more

I recently took the introductory class at SLT's Upper East side location, and was sure glad I did. As someone who has taken loads of Pilates classes, I thought this would be easy - but boy was I wrong. This class is like PIlates on crack and is much more challenging than I ever thought. But I loved, loved, loved the class, and am planning on going back to their "introductory" class a few more times, before I mainstream myself into their regular classes. read more

SLT is my new favorite fitness class! I like that it works out every single muscle and I can feel it stretching me out. I can see the difference between classes, as I workout more and become accustomed to the megaformer- I become more eager. But, SLT is a special treat for me- given the classes are on the pricier end of boutique fitness. If you want to start to get in shape, treat yourself to a few sessions of SLT. But, take the intro-class! I've taken 3 intro sessions to acclimate. read more

I'm quite surprised by the reviews of this studio (and any other SLT studio for that matter since I've tried most of them). I am torn as I write this review because on one hand I want to defend the studio because of the great classes they provide, but on the other hand competition for classes is already pretty steep. So, SLT if you're reading this, this is to hopefully encourage more studio openings (I heard Yorkville is a great area...) First off let me say that it took me a long time to finally find a class that I could stomach paying more than $30 per session - and SLT is still one of only a couple studios I can justify the investment. Because it is an investment. You will leave the 50 minute classes drenched in sweat. You will wake up the next morning with a satisfying soreness. After a few classes, you'll feel the definition in your obliques you never thought possible. And after more regular attendance, you'll start finally catching onto the lingo (they should consider need to posting a glossary online...) and see further benefits from improved form. One of the things I love most about SLT is how the same routine can affect two different people in dramatically different ways. After about 10 classes, I convinced my best friend to take a class with me. She (like me originally) was skeptical of the cost so had planned to just do the intro class and then move onto the next offer at some other gym. After the first class she was hooked. We continue to regularly attend classes together - but when she texts me that she can't lift her arms, I usually reply how I can't walk down stairs. It's our individual weak areas that get the most work, which is exactly what you want in a "one size fits all" routine. I can't say enough good things about the classes or the instructors. I would LOVE if there were showers and also wish there was an ability to sign up for a late class and then switch into an earlier class if there's still availability. But with those being my only two complaints, SLT easily gets 5 stars from me. I have been going to SLT for about 4 years , and they are fantastic, Great Classes, the Best Workout you will ever have, and I have gone to Physique57, Soul Cycle, Bootcamp, everything, ,yoga too, This is by far the most Advanced, Challenging 1 hour class you will ever take. It is not for the faint of heart, this is for serious workout people, who want results, and you will get amazing results, rock hard abs, stronger core, strong beautiful legs, great arms , etc., and it is Fun as well. All the Instructors are great, they are interested in their clients, and do an amazing job of helping everyone with the springs, the routine, and correcting posture, form etc, in a nice way. The service is wonderful, I have never encountered any problem with service, and , this is why after 4 plus years, I am still invested in SLT. read more

I never write reviews but this was the worst experience ever. I go to soul cycle and the gym on a daily basis. The instructor for this class was rude on not helpful at all. She was annoyed with us because we did not know what we were doing. We walked out before the class ended and it was a complete waste of time and money. Never again will I try this studio. I wanted to love it since it was highly recommended by a friend of mine who was 5 minutes late and they gave away her machine even though I told them numerous times she was going to be 5 minutes late. read more

SLT has changed my body and changed my life, all while enjoying the burn. This workout is the hardest workout I've ever taken, but it hands down is the most effective and keeps you coming back for more (with the help of some incredibly supportive instructors). It can take a second to get in the groove of taking this, but once your do, you will see a change in your strength, balance, body awareness, and muscle definition in a major way almost immediately. It's pretty insane! Now that I've been doing this workout for over a year anywhere from 1-4 times every week, I can't imagine not taking it! I know this kind of thing isn't for everyone, but I recommend that everyone give it at least 3 or 4 classes to really see for themselves! Truly! read more

I did the introductory class this afternoon hoping to learn how to use the machine and create an interest in attending classes in the future. I am an avid Soul-Cycler and have a personal trainer 2x/ week - I was hoping this would be a great addition - It is not. The intro class had 12 students and one instructor - the music was loud and it was very hard to follow the instructor. I anticipated we would learn basic moves, how to use the machine and what we could do as beginners to modify some of the "moves" that are done in class. It was none of the above. If it weren't for my friend next to me I would have left. If the objective of an introductory class is to entice people to attend regularly they failed. I'd recommend that their intro class have two instructors or fewer people so that you could understand what you are doing and how to do it! I also didn't appreciate the instructor telling me I was the only one that "couldn't hear" when clearly others have made comments about the music overpowering the instructors - it was just rude. read more

I take classes at SLT's Upper East Side location every week and I have to say, it is absolutely the best and most effective workout I have ever done in my life. I have seen my body physically change and become much stronger overtime and it is directly because of this workout. All of the instructors are incredible and always push me to do my best in a loving and encouraging manner. In every other workout, I am constantly watching the clock and waiting for it to be over. During SLT classes though, time flies by so fast and I never find myself watching the clock or wondering how much time is left. The megaformer machine is unlike any other piece of workout equipment out there. It is so multifunctional and every SLT class utilizes it in a new and different way, so the workout always feels unique and exciting! It can be a little intimidating at first, but after a couple of classes you quickly learn how to master this machine and soon enough you'll be wishing you had one in your own home (I know I do). I also love how diverse the clientele is. You'll see men and women of all different ages and body types, and this workout is great for us all! The moves can be modified easily for anyone with injuries and the instructors do a fantastic job personalizing these modifications for clients! Overall, I have never been so happy with a workout before and I will continue to be a happy SLT client for many many years to come!!! read more

I went today for my first Intro class and it was quite the workout. I've been going to Crunch about 4-5x weekly doing a variety of things like Spinning, Kangoo jumping, TRX and Chisel classes but I don't think there's much that prepares you for the grueling slow burn of SLT or any other Lagree fitness class. If you've been doing strength training and/or Abs/floor Pilates based exercises (i.e. Tricep kickbacks, bicep curls, lunges, planks), then there will be familiarity with the general gist of most of the exercises. The moving platform combined with the slow intervals for each exercise is what I think makes this class so challenging, though. I guess I'd call it the Chinese Water Torture of exercise. You won't do a whole lot of reps but from what I gather from the experience, you'll slow burn the muscles worked to exhaustion and then some. On top of that, you have to keep your hands and feet in specific areas (i.e. There're are belts on the moving platform you often put your toes in for forward lunges) essentially forcing you to correct imbalances in movement and posture to correctly perform them unlike say when you're doing stationary versions of them elsewhere. I was quite discombobulated throughout the class, especially when making the transitions to the different ends of the megaformer platform but the instructor, Karen, went the extra mile to help me and the other newbies out. My only gripe is that the studio has no showers and I believe that's the case with all the SLT studios. I think that occurs with a lot of NYC boutique fitness studios but I sweat a lot in general and this class definitely wasn't an exception. I prefer to shower and change after most exercise classes for that reason. While I would like to do this regularly, I don't know if I have the budget for an unlimited membership and the lack of showers makes it hard for me to justify paying for a unlimited membership and/or large class series. It's a great workout though so I'm thinking I might go once a week to supplant it with what I regularly do at Crunch. For anyone who has gone weekly for at least 3 classes, do you feel it's enough to gain core strength when done in conjunction with other exercise? read more

This company makes you feel good when you walk in but is actually terrible. The exercises are very demanding and cause injuries. When my daughter bought a series of ten she was very excited. After her third session she got injured and they would not refund the money. They said give the sessions to a friend. Not only would I never let my daughter go back to this place but I would certainly would never send a friend to go and get injured too. read more
