I've always been curious about soul cycle and was impressed by the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. The class was engaging and fast paced, I enjoyed the lights and fans as well as the different movements. However I wish the bikes showed the resistance and power. With 1 or 2 turns I never knew how hard I should be increasing the resistance. The bikes at cyclebar have this capability. It's my only complaint. They do have amazingggg toiletries, their shampoo and body lotion smells so good. I want to come back just for the amenities! As well free towels which is so helpful post workout. read more

This is by far my favorite SoulCycle location in the region! The staff's so much more friendlier, and of course the instructors are great. I recently signed up for a 2-week unlimited promo for new riders and ended up signing up for several classes. On my fifth ride, I even got a card congratulating me on five rides. How nice and thoughtful! I had tons of fun riding with Joe, Jacq, and Jarreau. Call me basic, but I loved the Taylor Swift themed classes! As with any SoulCycle in the city, this location can get pretty crowded in between classes. But there's usually plenty of space upstairs, including extra bathroom and shower stalls. read more

I've always wanted to try a SoulCycle class but unfortunately, I don't live close to one. I came to San Francisco for a work event so it was the perfect time for me to try it! I signed up for a class with Nick! Since it was my first time, my first ride was only $25. Upon arrival, I was greeted by two friendly front desk associates who kindly had me sign a first time rider waiver and then showed me around the studio! The studio has a locker room, showers and everything there for you. They let you rent cycle shoes which is really nice! Your first time is free but then you could rent them for three dollars after. Going inside of the room was straight to the point. One of the front desk associates came and helped me adjust my bike. My only complaint is how CLOSE TOGETHER all the bikes are!! My goodness, it wasn't a full class but I could only imagine how it is during a full class and idk if I'm good with that lol the girl in front of me had her ass all up in my face and was too close to comfort. But aside from that, I loved nicks class! He has really great music and choreo that kept me excited. I'd definitely come back to this location! read more

You feel welcomed and appreciated the minute you walk in, and they truly take time to get to know you. Even when I was only going once a week, within a few weeks, they recognized me by name. Okay, I finally did it. After much thought and a pandemic to get through, I finally got a chance to take a SoulCycle class with Jaymie S. and I loved it. I've always been a huge fan of group workouts as I need someone to tell me what to do. I have a spin bike at home and I've tried out the SoulCycle classes on Equinox, so I had some idea of what to expect. If you are brand new to this style of class, definitely do a trial so you can familiarize yourself with the moves before showing up. I wouldn't have realized how many upper body exercises I'd be doing had I not done at least a sample online. Taking Matthew's class on Friday morning at 7:15 was nothing short of exhilarating. Staff were super nice in showing me how to set up my bike, providing me with shoes (which are $3 per rental after your first time), and even leaving a lovely welcome card. Matthew's playlist was nothing short of spectacular and the high-energy environment with music and lighting made the 45 minute class just fly by. Reserving a seat was easy. You'll need to purchase a class online or through the app, and make a reservation right at noon on Monday the week of your intended class. Bikes seem to fill up quick so be sure you're on the site ready to go. My only issue is that the price-point in my opinion. At $35 a class (with no real discount for my first time), it easily adds up and can be a turn off if you don't have a steady enough income to support this lifestyle. That's not the fault of the studio but I'd definitely recommend buying a pass or looking for random deals for to save a bit of money. Thanks SoulCycle Castro for being my first time. The music is consistently good, and I love the choreography that goes with it. 4 stars for SoulCycle in general. I've been to this location as well as Union street and both have the same downsides. There are too many lockers in such a small physical area, so it's cramped. SoulCycle is fairly expensive - from memberships to shoe rentals to boxed water. I use classes at SoulCycle as a treat. This review is for Casey. He is my FAVORITE instructor ever and I try my best to make it to his classes at least once a week. I always leave this studio feeling happier and a better version of myself. I could be having the worst week, and Casey's classes are something I always look forward to. His music playlist is always on point, and his energy is amazing. I have brought friends here who have also loved his classes. He is so motivating, inspirational, and overall a great cycling instructor. You'll have so much fun with his choreography! I honestly consider taking his Soulcycle classes a spiritual experience because of how encouraging his words are. You do not need to worry about following along in the class because he always encourages everyone to listen to their bodies first. I highly recommend anyone to take his classes, with all levels from beginners to advanced. Overall, this is my FAVORITE Soulcycle location in the Bay Area because it is located right in the heart of the Castro District. The energy here is indescribable and everyone here is so kind and supportive. Also, they have a disco ball in the studio and fluorescent lighting that glows in the middle of class. My favorite place to get some cardio in. The location and vibe is immaculate, right in the center of the Castro. Parking is a bit difficult here so you want to get here 15 min early. But other than that, all my favorite instructors are here. Marissa and Kamelle are both amazing. You really do sell your soul to SoulCycle. This was my first experience SoulCycling in SF and it was EXHILARATING!! Franklin's Hip Hop Hump Day was so much fun he was really good at encouraging his riders and making them feel capable to keep turning it up a notch. He had a great balance of high energy spirits and resistance climbs. The music and ambiance were great definitely would go to another one of his classes. The only improvement I would ask for is the front staff. It was my first time here and it didn't feel very welcoming I was kinda left to figure out where the lockers were, how to adjust my bike, and how to clip in. I ended up figuring everything out but I just wish the staff was more excited to welcome newcomers read more

Been wanting to try Soul for a while now. And after I got tired of running, I decided I wanted to mix it up. Came here for the first class with my boyfriend. I've spun before but had never done Soul. The staff was super welcoming and helpful for my first time. The class was great. Awesome music, I liked the variety of spinning and weights, and the instructors here are pretty amazing. I'd have to say my favorite instructor so far is Molli S. She goes at a good pace, is energetic and encouraging, plays the best music, and you can tell she is really passionate about what she does! Now I go at least once a week to this location (usually Molli's class). It's easy to book classes, the staff is always friendly, and the facility is great. It's clean, nice lockers and showers, and a good studio. Soul has been the perfect new addition to my new work out routine. And this location is awesome! read more

I'm a SOUL freak. My boss calls me "Soul City." I have been to the SOMA, Union and Castro locations. I frequent SOMA the most because it is literally down the street from my office. Castro is super easy to drive to on the weekends. Parking in the morning is a breeze! Just like all Soul Cycles, the staff is awesome and the instructors are bad asses! I don't want to pick favorites, but Paula and Tirrell are freakin' awesome. They make you work for 45 minutes and they make sure you have fun while doin' it. read more

Went for a spin at SoulCycle Castro a few days ago!! This was the 5th studio I've been to, and it was just as squeaky clean and grapefruit-scented as the others. You get the cult-like feeling right as you step in and see the SoulCycle attire and gear to your left and the lit candles on the counter, their citrus-y aroma wafting through the studio AHHH THIS STUDIO HAS A DISCO BALL AND BLACK LIGHTS!! It's the first studio I've ridden at that's had these things!! SoulCycle already gives off a rave-like vibe with the dark rooms hella loud music and sweaty strangers and screaming and dancing, and these things take it to the next level!! General info: Your first class is $20 with complimentary shoe rental, and then some studios give you a free 2nd ride pass to use within 14 days (SF SoMa did but not sure if other studios are doing this right now), and you can also purchase 3 classes for $60 total (but this time you have to pay for shoe rental). After that, it's $32 per class + $3 per shoe rental :( they get you hooked and then raise the price.......IT'S SO ADDICTING that post ride high is just WOOONDERFUUUL. The instructors are super friendly and motivating and encouraging and lively, and the music is ALWAYS on point!! You can go online or use the app to book your specific bike. The class consists of a sprints series, hills, arms/weights, and cool down with a stretch (stretch is optional, but you're paying $$$, so why not??) As for parking, it's SF, so it'll be difficult...but the studio is right next to a Muni Metro station. Convenient!! There are lockers, showers, and bathrooms, as well as Le Labo products and other toiletries!! Bottom line: Looking for a new workout? Wanna have some fuuuuuuun?!? Book a bike and head on over to SoulCycle for a soulful 45 minutes you'll never forget (-1 star is because so friggin expensive!! Otherwise, I LOVE YOU SOULCYCLE YOU ARE THE LOML). SoulCycle in general is my favorite workout of all time. Cardio + arm work + yoga-like intentions set and carried on throughout the 45 minute class. It's challenging but it's a rush, and it'll have you coming back. This studio is sooooo beautiful from the outside. Literally looks like a palace. Castro is known to be full of LGBTQ+ pride and I love so much that this studio has pride flags outside + a rainbow polaroid wall inside. How fitting. They really bring the best of the best to this studio because it seems to be the busiest in the bay area. I would recommend instructors but I think it's really a personal preference! The one thing I would change about this place is a larger communal area - it's p a c k e d before and after classes. And I will add kind of gross when everyone is sweaty/packed like sardines, trying to get to their lockers. Of course this hasn't kept me from returning. I got addicted to SoulCycle when I was finishing up nursing school in Philly, so once I moved back home with my parents in California, I knew I had to sign up for more classes in the area. My go-to studio is the one in Castro, mainly because I like using it as an excuse to explore the Gayborhood. Admittedly, CSTR attracts a certain demographic of riders. For instance, some riders are businessmen/women who are taking classes right before work, whereas others are skinny fit chicks who look like they run their own Instagram modeling accounts. Regardless, I love SoulCycle classes, despite the stereotype that SoulCycle riders belong to this insane cult, because the instructors are filled with so much energy and spirit. Workouts are also pretty intense. Every class I've attended leaves me with that amazing post-ride high. I'm sad to say that this week was my last week of taking SoulCycle, because I'll be flying to Cleveland pretty soon. I haven't been able to take every Bay Area SoulCycle instructor's class while I was here, although I do have a few recommendations: -Chris is great for beginner cyclists especially, because he doesn't pressure his riders into following his choreo to a tee. Rather, he encourages riders to ride at their own pace and sit in the saddle if they feel like they can't keep up with his tempo. His playlists were my favorite - combo of trap and hip-hop. -Liam is also good for beginners, though he spends less time than Chris guiding beginner/intermediate cyclists through the choreo. Love that he plays Post Malone often. -Kamelle is very, VERY energetic and charismatic. He's one of the lovable gay guys you'd love to have as your best friend. His workouts are super choreo-based, which is something that new riders will have to get used to. However, compared to Chris and Liam's classes, Kamelle seems to contribute a livelier vibe. That is, his workouts feel the most like cardio dance parties. As a forewarning, SoulCycle is definitely expensive ($32 a class, + $3 for shoe rentals, if you don't own your own pair of cycling shoes). For me, I can only afford to go once a week. However, I think it's cool just to try a class once. read more

My friend and I came here for a class on Sunday, Aug. 20, led by Joe (I think). It was my first theme ride - Beyonce vs. Gaga! The location is right at the corner of Market and Castro next to one of the underground MUNI entrances - can't miss it! Parking can get tricky around here - but we were able to find street parking about three to four blocks south from here (the walk up wasn't bad). I think this location was a bank before turning into a SoulCycle. It's smaller compared to the SoMa location (the only other location I've been to). Right when you enter there's a huge sign that says SoulCycle in rainbow and Polaroid pictures in the background. I wanted to take a picture, but also wanted to get a locker right away. Once we checked in, we made our way down a narrow hallway to the lockers. We got two right next to the bathrooms, there's only two for all genders that's really spacious with a shower and toiletries. In terms of the bathroom situation, I'd pick SoMa over Castro. There are way more showers and stalls in SoMa. Had to wait for a bathroom after awhile (we ended up being the last ones from our class to leave the building!). The class! It was a packed and it looked like there was one room for the entire location (is that how all locations are?). Joe was great leading the class, he called everyone "boo boo" which I found amusing (ex. - "You go boo boo!"). Sweated like crazy through the 45-minute class, he had good picks and I found myself really getting into the music and the pace. Based on the two classes I've taken so far (planning to take more at other locations!), I like how the instructors tell you to go at your own pace. It makes the environment welcoming and acknowledges that everyone's at their own level. This location had a desert background in the cycling room which was cool. Yes, there were changes in lighting throughout the class, but I thought they were well spread out and weren't overwhelming (if anything, they added to the upbeat mood!). Not sure if I would come back to this location, maybe if they had a really good artist mash-up I couldn't find elsewhere. The cramped bathroom situation took off a huge point for me, but overall I had a good experience here. read more

We did a 60min class not knowing most are 45min (both cost the same). #tbh I'd go for the 60min version all the way bc more party for your $. I'm *not* any sort of runner or cycler, btw, and I barely survive #legday. LOUD? Yeah it's loud. But there are free earplugs at the desk. CONFUSING? Confusing as feezy your 1st time or two. Yet there's so much happening in unison and often to the beat that you can just replicate the other 49 people who are all moving as one. You don't have to understand, beezy - just keep pedaling. ;) PACKED? Bike spacing is very sardined. Expect to knock your neighbors during the elbows-out pushups. CLIPPING IN your shoes to the bike? Flip the pedal so the small black part's on top toward the back side of the bike. Then press the ball of your foot (the clip part of the shoe) down onto the pedal. It may take some tries. DETACHING your shoes from the bike? Rotate your foot so your toes point away from the bike and your heel points toward the bike. Not recommended. At all. Narrow aisles make the locker room crowded. Lockers are small. You must rent their shoes for an extra $3. If you want to change, you have to go upstairs, then back down for your locker. The music is incredibly loud and I used their earplugs. I couldn't understand the instructor due to the music. The room was extremely hot with stagnant air. The fans weren't even turned on. My bike had broken brackets and wouldn't adjust. I didn't have a good workout. In comparison, FitnessSF Mid-Market's spin studio is amazing. I'll be returning there. Overall, a horrible experience. I would not even try it if I were you. read more

Great location right next to a muni station. This SoulCycle differs from SoMa and Palo Alto because there are black lights inside the studio!! It was cool seeing all those white towels light up. 24 less bikes than SoMa and 2 less than Palo Alto (just checked online lol) so I'm guessing the popular Castro classes/times get filled up pretty quickly Monday at noon (when class sign ups open up for the week). Tip: log in online, buy credit, and eye some seats you want for your classes before Monday at noon so that you don't realize too late that you have to sign in and/or buy classes while you watch all the (good) seats taken before your eyes (happened to me when I just joined this lovely world of SoulCycle). Note that first timers need to call the studio to reserve their first class. read more

My first ride was with Tirrell and I fell in love. High energy instructor, high energy class. I love the disco ball in the room. It gets a bit steamy in there. The music gets a bit loud, and I regretted not snagging a pair of ear plugs - lesson learned. I mean mid way through class you can always take them out. Also, FYI, don't bring a water bottle that has a funky size because it will not fit into the cup holder and you'll be struggling to find a spot for it. Parking can suck, so time management is key to a good warm up. This location is clean and has built in lockers with a key pad. There are showers and bathrooms so there really isn't excuse not to come. Yes it is expensive. Take advantage of the first ride promo, buy your own shoes, and follow up with promos. I believe once a year they have 2 weeks where your first ride is completely free. I am a huge barre enthusiast, so an occasional cycle class wakes and shakes up my muscles...as they say, "shaking muscles are changing muscles." read more

I'm so glad I got over my (serious) anxiety about group fitness classes and started going to SoulCycle. I've taken a different classes from a few different instructors to get a feel for whose teaching style is the best fit for me and HOLY SMOKES: get thee to Nikki's class if you are looking for an incredible workout with great music (and such variety, but all of it WORKS so well) and an instructor who not only wears her heart on her sleeve but helps us all strengthen our bodies while renewing our spirits and infusing her classes with honesty, laughter and dance. I know I sound like part of the cult here and I don't even care -- I'm just so thankful to have found a workout that humbles me (it's hard. The workout and choreography are challenging but it just takes time to get the sing of it. And then when it gets easier over time, you have the choice to increase the resistance/your intensity to keep challenging yourself!) and an instructor who cares deeply about community, kindness, having fun, self-care, achieving goals and dancing it out. Pro tip: if you're rhythmically challenged, as I am, don't worry -- there are so many exceptional riders in every class that they (along with Nikki) help me find and keep the beat. read more

The locker area is pretty small so between classes is a bit of a shuffle. However, the actual cycling studio is awesome. There's black lights and a disco ball. My sister and I decided to give SoulCycle a try on a Sunday afternoon. Booked our class with Luigi through the app. There is a specific time when you can reserve a bike for a certain day so make sure you've got a reminder set. We selected bikes in the last row since we were first timers and didn't want to be seen struggling because we didn't know what to expect honestly! We came about 15 minutes early and after the whole chaotic experience in the beginning, we now know to come way earlier to get ourselves situated on our bikes. I highly recommend coming at least 20-25 minutes early to have enough time to fill out paperwork, get your shoes, and adjust your bike, especially if it's your first time. First time shoe rentals are complimentary, but after that, it's $3 each visit. But if you find yourself coming consistently, I would invest in your own pair. The lockers had usb charging ports inside which I thought was really cool. Their bathrooms were really nice too - had clear jars filled with hair ties and all the bathroom essentials you needed! Not sure how the bathroom/changing rooms were upstairs, but I think they could have designed it a little better downstairs. There were two single restrooms and the showers were also inside the restroom. So if someone were to take a shower... wouldn't that mean nobody else could go and use the bathroom? Felt like it would've been a lot more efficient to have separate bathrooms and shower rooms. Anyways, we were expecting to get assistance with setup, but when we walked into the room, everyone seemed to already be ready on their bikes. It was pretty dark in the room too so it was hard to see. My sister and I felt super lost and we really didn't know how to get locked into our bikes. Some staff eventually helped us and we were on our way. Honestly, I felt like the setup was rushed so I still don't think I'd know how to do it next time.. but it's a lesson learned. Come. early. I had to adjust my seat during the session because it was a little high. I didn't realize you could adjust the resistance of your bike so at first mine was set pretty high so I thought damn this is really hard cus I was seriously struggling! Lol! I expected the room to be a lot bigger honestly. It was pretty tight and there was barely any room to get through. I couldn't imagine anyone leaving the room during that whole 45-min session. I didn't feel any air conditioning in the room, but there were two fans on the back corners of the room. But it was hot/steamy in there and we definitely sweat buckets!! Luigi was fantastic! He had such an AMAZING music playlist. It literally made me feel like I could keep on riding even when I thought I was going to give up. I need his playlist for when I go to the gym! Although I really got a good cardio workout (and was sore for the next two days), I don't think it's something I could do every week. It's a little pricy at $30 (regularly) per session with the additional $3 shoe rental. But definitely every now and then! And with Luigi for sure!! read more

I have tried this place a few times and did not enjoy it at all. It was overpriced and i didn't like the instructors.
