Workout, the vibe was great!! Looking forward to working out there more. Clean and staff friendly and accommodating.

Love Barry's, even though every class is so hard. Great facilities, location, encouraging instructors, and incredibly challenging.

Friendly staff walked me through the equipment and basic how-to for my first class. Facility is clean and the locker rooms had nice products to freshen up. We did strength arm day and treadmill combo on the day I went. Music is upbeat and motivating and it's an intense class for sure! Especially the treadmill speeds they want us to do intervals on. I burned over 400 calories in a 50 minute class (for reference I'd burn around 300 calories in an hour barre). Get ready to sweat!! Owner was so kind -- I had a note I booked for my birthday as occasion and they gave me a little lotion and face mask goodie bag. So thoughtful! read more

Great classes, friendly instructors who push you but in a nice way (while still inspiring you), clean and modern facilities, and love the smoothies! All around a great time. Very accessible by Muni, bike, or walking, this is an urbanist's dream workout studio! read more

10/10. One of the most fun. Very studios in the Bay area. They have a disco ball logo. Need I say more. They've got a full red room as well as a lift room which is amazing. The staff is so phenomenal all the way from anyone working the front desk to the instructors. I love this place and couldn't recommend it more. read more

Castro is one of the flagship locations and it is BIG. Staff are all very friendly and welcoming. When I checked in, the front desk knew it was my first time at this location, and quickly gave me a rundown of the facility and amenities. There is also FREE parking and there were plenty of spots when I came in on a Sunday afternoon. You enter on Noe and then there's an elevator that takes you directly into the studio. Having a designated parking spot is gold in SF, let alone free parking? You win, Barry's Castro! read more

Amazing workout! I've taken two classes at this studio and the teachers are fantastic with great energy. The treadmill section is so tough with the sprint intervals, but they push you hard. I love the ear plugs and dim lighting. The showers and amenities are also top notch and the toiletries smell so fresh and nice. Easy free parking with residential access! read more

Great studio and I'm thrilled they added a 5:00am class M-F! I love all the seasonal decorations they do too. Staff and instructors are all great. I'll be back. read more

I attended the 11:50 a.m. class this morning, and while the workout and instructor were excellent, I was very disappointed by my experience at the bar before the class started. My sister and I stopped by to check out the drinks. We noticed a pre-ordered purple drink on the counter, and I got excited because I thought Barry's might have a taro or ube-flavored drink. I happily asked the staff member behind the bar, pointing to the drink, "Is that taro or ube?" Instead of responding in a welcoming way, she replied, "It's on the menu," in a tone that came across as cold and dismissive. Since it was my first time visiting Barry's Castro and I don't usually order drinks after class because I normally make my own, I was simply curious and hoping for a friendly interaction. Customer service is an important part of the overall experience, especially for first-time visitors. A warmer, more accommodating response would have made a big difference. Unfortunately, this interaction left me feeling unwelcome. The class itself and the instructor were fantastic, but my experience at the bar overshadowed what would have otherwise been a great visit. It honestly made me question whether I'd return to this location. I hope you'll share this feedback with your staff, as a little kindness and friendliness can go a long way in making members and guests feel valued. read more

I really wanted to love Barry's Bootcamp in the Castro -- the vibe is fun, music is great, and the workouts are killer. But wow, the ladies' room was gross. Towels everywhere, long hairs in the sink, and that unmistakable smell of a backed-up drain. This was mid-week, mid-afternoon, not rush hour, so no excuses. It made me wonder how often the equipment gets cleaned -- hard to tell since everything's black and moody (great for lighting, not for hygiene). Front desk? Friendly enough but mostly avoiding eye contact. The shake bar push also feels more about profit than wellness. Bottom line: great concept, not so clean, not so personal. Bring your own towels to place on benches, sanitary gloves to wear all the time ... and maybe lots of disinfectant wipes ! read more

Good workout. Some of their instructors are less talented and some are more. It's almost like a secret club that if you are part of the community, then you get your name called out in a high five and if you go occasionally, they kind of ignore you. They have showers, but I have not used them. I like that they give towels for everybody. The reality of the workout is that it is a hard challenge, but they really do not do a good job of explaining what the moves are the muscles you are working or any corrections. There are 50 people in that room and it is exactly that a big group fitness with no special attention and honestly a little bit dangerous. But again that's not like the worst thing in the world if you go into it knowing that. read more

Among the Barry's locations I've visited, this one stands out as my favorite. Weekday parking can be a bit tricky due to street cleaning, but apart from that, the staff are friendly. The gym maintains a clean and spacious atmosphere. I appreciate the separate lift class option for those not inclined to run, providing a great way to diversify workout routines. I also enjoy the Theraguns and Dyson hairdryers for use; it's a thoughtful addition. Their innovative approach to classes during holidays and throughout the year adds a fun and exciting dimension to the experience. Be aware if you have sensitive ears, instructors seems to blast the music in class, I recommend using earplugs which they provide! My preferred instructors are Tara, Trish, and Laura, so shoutout to them! They are great instructors and I appreciate when they correct my form. Although, I wish Tara taught more frequently here--her classes fill up fast. At $30ish per class, it's a steep price, so it's wise to capitalize on their promotional deals whenever available. read more

Great location, good vibes, and amazing instructors! This place has showers, towels, and lockers. If you plan to take a class here, book way in advance because it gets booked really quickly. They have a smoothie bar, which is best if you order ahead so it's ready when you come out. Price is worth it. When I was done with the class, I burned around 600 calories in an hour. My friend ask for a shout out for me because I'm getting married in a few weeks and they went above and beyond to shout me out during class and to create a cute sign for me! See picture. As a fan of the Barry's workout, the Castro location is the one I go to the most because the instructors are great and the facilities are well kept. For years, I have been going to Barry's when I really want a good workout. The most common workout consists of doing half of the workout on the treadmill and the second half on the floor with weights. This is all done with instruction from a coach who is usually super upbeat and encouraging. It also helps that the music is usually my wheel house with a nice mix of EDM and pop music to help fuel me through those last minute pushes. Whenever I finish, I definitely feel good, but also need a snack and a nap! First-timer tips: - May be difficult to follow since the coach does switch between instructions for the floor and treadmill. I honestly look at my neighbors quite often and my friends who have been going for much longer also struggle at times. So do not worry too much about feeling lost and just enjoy the process. -the music can be quite loud so they do provide ear plugs at the front desk. -highly encourage bringing a water bottle with you. they have a station at the fuel bar! -they do have a double floor (noted as DF on the floor map when signing up for the class) meaning you stay on the floor with weights the entire class. Since I do enjoy variety, I prefer the usual workout (choosing either a T or F on the map) I usually visit on weekends, so I do end up parking on the streets a bit away. Not always easy but doable. Recommend factoring in some time if you are parking on the street. My only major gripe would be the cost of the classes. While it is definitely a pretty top tier workout, it can be quite expensive. However, I do enjoy the overall experience which keeps me coming back. Overall, Barry's Bootcamp is a great workout that is worth doing, but may be a once in a while indulgence. read more

Was visiting my friend in SF when I saw they had a Barry's within walking distance from her place. I did a midday workout with Nigel and he was great! He even offered a free class if anyone wanted to take the next one! I don't say no to free and def not to a free Barry's class! The class was upbeat and fun and Nigel really pushed me to do some extra reps when I felt like I couldn't! Also, this might be one of my favorite locations. It was so clean and spacious! The lobby area was well-equipped with tables and chairs for you to chill before the class or for you to catch your breath after one! Can't wait to come back! read more

I've been a fan of Barry's for a while and appreciate the high-energy workouts, motivating instructors, and the strong community. However, I recently had an experience that made me question how inclusive the environment truly is. During a class, an instructor called out a participant for choosing to do a workout solo rather than with a partner. While this may have been meant as encouragement, it felt unnecessary and uncomfortable for the person being singled out. Everyone comes to class with their own reasons for how they engage, and not everyone wants--or is able--to work out with a partner. Some people prefer to exercise alone for personal reasons, and no one should feel judged or put on the spot for making that choice. Barry's is known for its motivating and empowering atmosphere, and I hope the team continues to foster an environment where all participants feel welcome, supported, and free to work out in the way that best suits them. A little more awareness and sensitivity around these moments would go a long way in ensuring that inclusivity remains a priority. read more

They have a policy that they give away your spot if you come less than 5 minutes before class. When you're paying $40 a class, it's a little ridiculous that when you show up on time, they could have already given your spot away, taken your $40, then taken someone else's $40 for the same spot. Pretty horrible customer service. Won't be coming back to this location. read more

Love Barry's and this Castro location! The workout is always challenging yet personalized to your fitness level -- you can lift smaller weights and run on a lower speed on the treadmill as modification options. As I was rehabilitating from an ACL surgery, my PT recommended that I start running again. That's when I decided to check out Barry's and it's been a love affair since! It's the perfect blend of strength training on the floor and HIIT on the treadmill. You leave the class drenched in sweat and feeling highly accomplished! I love treating myself to one of the smoothies from the Fuel Bar after class to both hydrate and replenish the muscles. I've been very impressed with the quality bar of instructors across the board. While I haven't tried all of the instructors yet, my favorites so far have been Erin, Anthony and Tommy Tran! Happy working out, Yelpers! read more

I've been to Barry's in FiDi & Marina but Castro is still my favorite location by far. It's bigger and the vibe there is so energetic!! I personally love the instructors: Trish, Anthony & Georgia. They are all motivating but give you a challenge. I get my money's worth when I take their classes. If you're feeling up for a reward for your intense workout, I highly recommend checking out their protein shakes at the Fuel Bar. You are required to pre order it BEFORE your class. The workout and establishment 10/10 this rating is for the bar/smoothie girls who was rude and couldn't be bothered to give the guest the time of day. A small, "hi" "I'll be right there with you" "one moment" NOTHING!! It was solely myself in the space and her. I wanted to do a pre order smoothie. Not familiar with the set up. I heard the smoothies are 10/10 but she was a 0/10 as a customer service employee. read more

I recently attended a class here after having a long break from Barry's Bootcamp, and I absolutely loved it! I initially tried Barry's at a different location in early 2020 and was not a fan but I'm so glad I decided to give it a try again. Trish is a great instructor as she's very encouraging and doesn't force you to do anything that you're not comfortable with. In addition, the studio is very clean and the front desk staff are very friendly and welcoming. I am excited to come here for more classes, and I highly recommend taking a class with Trish if you're a beginner! read more

I've never been a big Barry's guy even though there were several in Chicago, where I used to live. Once moving out to the Bay, that has changed 100% and its all due to Barry's Castro! I've only taken classes with Tommy and Brian but MAN, they really know how to make the most out of those 50 minutes. You'll want to quit, get a second wind, want to quit again, third wind, and before you know it, you're done and feel amazing. I'm obsessed with this place. I am a runner, mostly solo outdoor runner, but a couple years I started having motivation issues and wanted to add some strength training into my routine, so I checked out Barry's. I was super intimidated at first, but I made a friend try it with me on my first morning and also everyone was so welcoming that I quickly got over my nerves. Honestly the instructors here are the best, and the workouts are hard but so fun. It really pushes me and I love the vibes and the energy. I only run a little over 2.5 miles per class, so I do a run on a way to class that give me another 2 miles in so that it is more of a distance that is a normal day for me. But with that plus the class, it makes for a great well-rounded workout. Plus the facilities and smoothies (expensive but a nice once-in-awhile treat) are great! Just go check it out and you won't regret it. read more

Barry's is going downhill because they're cutting costs left and right. As a guy in finance, I know Private Equity ownership when I see it, and they have let the summer associates loose on this one. I did not complain when they shortened the classes pre-pandemic. I did not complain when they started rationing workout towels. I did not complain when the instructor quality started going downhill and they hired anyone with a pulse to do classes. But they finally removed plastic bags from the bathrooms and that was a BRIDGE TOO FAR. Every dude gets sweaty af in these classes, and now there's way to carry your sweaty gym clothes except just raw dog them into your gym bag. Barry's is like all things in our modern state of america- a great idea that has now been over-engineered for profitability and the experience has suffered. read more

Reviewing this as a barrys regular (@ Barrys Bootcamp FiDi) ABOUT BARRYS CASTRO: - it's opening weekend so OF COURSE the energy is through the roof! That new new is so exciting. Pristine treads, benches, towels, everything! - this is the biggest studio in Northern California with 2 rooms (the main red room and another room at the back of the building that's maybe for stretching?) - the waiting space is also super huge which is really nice that you don't have to cramp up in a small area to get the run down of class -- everyone can see and hear the instructor super clearly! - HUUGE PLUS!! men's locker room, women's locker room, and a gender neutral locker room/bathroom! ABOUT BARRYS BOOTCAMP (general): - I love love LOVE Barrys Bootcamp. "The best workout in the world" is true! At least for me. I don't have the discipline to push myself as hard at a gym during a personal workout session so coming to barrys where you're in a room of individuals who are also giving their best AND having an instructor push you to your limits (safely & supportively) is the greatest - you have a running set and a floor set - running involves walk/jog/run to a sprint and each instructor does something different (for each class too!) - floor work involves resistance bands, dumbbells, body weight exercises both on the floor and the bench and it varies depending on which day you go! Check the website for the schedule breakdown ;) read more

I've always enjoyed Barry's classes. They were a great workout, were liberal enough to let me wear what I wanted, and had cute kama sutra wallpaper in the bathroom. Unfortunately, they seem to be going in the direction of a conservative chain gym. Today, the person at the desk pulled me out of class - explaining that I had to change because my tights were too thin. I asked why, given it hasn't been a problem before, and mentioned the kama sutra wallpaper. They told me that the wallpaper is going to be torn down soon. I believe Barry's can set whatever dress code they want. But, tolerance for being different is what makes San Francisco special. You should decide for yourself if you want to support a gym that demands conformity. read more

Barry's bootcamp is the best workout ever! It's the only workout that really keeps me toned and in shape. When I lived in Boston temporarily for a few years, I used to go to the Downtown Boston Barry's bootcamp. I was eagerly waiting for Barry's Castro to open back up. As soon as I came back to my Barry's workouts, I lost the COVID weight (10lbs!). Feeling great and back to normal You start off either on the treadmill or floor and switch about two times depending on the teacher and their routine for the session. There's always fun music playing to keep your mind off of things. The teachers are all great! The studio is kept super clean and well equipped. You might want to book the evening classes ahead of time because those classes are at the more popular times. There's a fuel bar where you could order your protein shakes which are pretty yummy. Place your order on the list at the bar before class and your shake will be waiting for you after class! If it's your first time the staff will bring you in early to show you around and how the equipment works :) the staff is super friendly and welcoming here! read more

NEWBIE straight off the SOFA! I live in the area no clue about BARRY'S and pulled the trigger to try them out on a FRIDAY 4:20pm class after a holiday 4th of July. IMPRESSIVE right from the front door. HUGE space as u walk in, everything is in its proper place and CLEAN! Love TOMMYs class was perfect for me! Wow, if you're into fitness, everyone needs to try out a Barry's Bootcamp!! The luxury of the fitness studio added to the whole experience and makes you motivated to workout in such a nice place. It was my first time and I was greeted by a friendly front desk associate who showed me around and helped me navigate their machine. It was a very welcoming environment for first timers and pretty easy to follow along. The 50 minute workout was amazing. I love all the transitions between workouts. You do about 20 minutes on the treadmill, 20 minutes doing strength training, going back and forth, and at the end, 10 minutes of stretching. This type of exercise is definitely for me, it is very hype, playing energetic music and going at paces that slow down and then speed up to give you that pump and sprint. I haven't ran that fast in forever!! The instructor, Andrew, was very nice and a great instructor. Definitely motivating and made me feel accomplished after class. I took an abs and ass class so the workouts were tailored towards that. After the workout, it was so convenient that they have their own smoothie bar with proteins, BCAAS, etc., although it is a bit pricey. Overall, my experience was 10/10 and I would definitely come back to workout in the Red Room. read more

This location specifically lacks organization and management skills. I've been taking Barry's classes for over a year now, spent close to $2500 in classes (not including retail and fuel bar) and just found that they truly don't care about their clientele. I booked a class a couple of days in advance, the day i was supposed to take my class I woke up very sick, called out from work and emailed Barry's Castro. Two hours passed and nobody had replied, I gave them a call and nobody answered the phone. I get an email a few hours later from Briana telling me that they don't allow cancellations the same day and decided to remind me about other times where "exceptions" have been made for me. If I'm sick I'm going to give the courtesy to the other class attendees and not spread whatever I had going on. You won't see another dollar from me Briana. read more

Have taken several classes at this location and my other experiences have been phenomenal. CJ and Steph are my favorite instructors from all the Barry's location I've been to including the East Coast. The both of them are extremely encouraging throughout the class, making me feel excited to push out the last few pumps. They both also have really great and cohesive playlists, making the workout easier. There was a strong sense of community on their classes. Unfortunately, last week I had a bad class with Tara. Her attitude was poor and she made condescending remarks during the class that weren't helpful and unnecessary. Her music was louder than my other classes, and the music sucked. The playlist wasn't cohesive and was all over the place. In addition to the blaring music, her instructions were extremely unclear during the class and the entire class had to look around at each other to know what to do. Her comments like "C'mon guys, it's really not that hard" and "It was easy for my other class, I don't know why you guys are struggling so much" did not help the environment at all. At the end she asked how everyone was doing and ended it off with "I feel like everyone isn't mentally here right now". Bit disappointed at that class but now I know to not take her class ever again. read more

Took my first class today with my sister and had so much fun! The instructor I took was with Nicole and she is awesome. She encourages people to work at their own pace, while also motivating us. I've been a dedicated member of Barry's Bootcamp in the Castro neighborhood for some time, finishing my 196th class, enjoying the workouts. The teachers are phenomenal and the front desk staff is hardworking and helpful. I'm really pleased with my experience overall. However, I've run into a bit of trouble with late cancellations. I'd like to mention that I've attempted to cancel a class within 12 hours of its start time twice in the last month, and both times, I asked for a bit of flexibility. Unfortunately, I was met with a firm "no" on both occasions. The strict policy on late changes, even when there's a waitlist, can be a bit frustrating. I believe there's room for some adjustments without negatively impacting Barry's business. It would make my experience as a member much better if Barry's Bootcamp could reconsider these policies. Thanks! read more

I'm pretty loyal to this location so writing this review saddens me. To start, I live in Oakland and have made the commute to San Francisco for over a year now. The 30-60 minute drive is something I'm willing to do because of how much I used to love this place. Today, I was on the waitlist and then received an email confirmation congratulating me that I had made it off. I was greeted by the instructor, one of my favorites, and set my water and towel on my assigned spot. Soon after, during the warm-up, I was told by a front-desk person that a mistake was made, therefore, my spot was no longer mine anymore. I embarrassingly grabbed my things and left. It can already feel isolating in a Barry's Red Room where oftentimes you're the only Black person, and Black woman, in the room. To be removed and pulled from class as I was, while the class had already begun, was entirely inappropriate. It is disappointing and ironic that even during Black History Month, there is still a lack of regard for the experience of a Black person in white-dominant spaces. read more

I'm an official Barry's convert! I grew up overweight, so I was very anxious to try Barry's for the first time. I was intimidated because all the instructors look like supermodels. Once I started taking classes, my worries went away. The Barry's crew is super friendly--both the instructors and other clients! My favorite part is on the treadmill when the instructor tells the class to wish each other good luck by bumping fists with their neighbor. It's such a small thing, but means so much. In that moment we acknowledge each other's strengths. It's the difference between being in a class versus being part of a community. The instructors definitely pushes you to challenge yourself. They encourage you to work harder and change your mentality rather than taking the easy route when you're tired. If you've never done Barry's before, it's a HIIT workout with 2 sets on the treadmill and 2 sets on the floor with weights and a bench. On the treadmill, you'll be doing sprints. Each class is a different focus area for the floor section. Out of all the Barry's studios in SF, this location is the biggest, nicest, and newest. There is so much more room in the lobby, so waiting to enter the class is a pleasant experience. The women's locker room is very nice, but I think a bit smaller than the FiDi location. Lastly, it's in walking distance to the Castro Muni Station, which is a huge plus! I work in the FiDi, so it only took 15 minutes to get there by train. read more

Looking for one of the best workouts in the world? Or at least the Bay Area? Barry's Bootcamp is where it's at! This Castro location is one of the biggest Barry's Bootcamps in Northern California to date. I usually hate reviewing workout places/gyms because fitness is a personal experience and it's different for everyone. But as someone who was not really into working out, Barry's got me hooked and this Castro location just cemented why I love it so much! THIS STUDIO IS BEAUTIFUL. Barry's Burlingame is my personal favorite (for their staff and location), but this one is as beautiful. Upon walking in, your eyes gravitate to the rotating Barry's Bootcamp chevron behind the check in desk. The waiting area/lobby is HUGEEEE. It's so big that I bet the instructors can teach a class from the front desk. With a seating area, huge fuel bar (where you get your shakes), open space in front of the desk, and cool San Francisco Barry's swag, this studio is a total dream. Even the bathroom is out of this world. Not only do they have spacious men's and women's locker rooms, they also have a gender neutral one. In every bathroom, there's a few stalls, a bench, lockers, and a lot of showers with your favorite Oribe products. I only found out about this my third time going here, but the bathroom stalls (I guess you can call them mini rooms as they do have an actual door and enclosure to them) have SEXy wallpaper. Not going to describe what they look like, but I posted a few pics of them. I spent at least 5 minutes in the bathroom just admiring the wall and didn't realize someone really needed to take a number 2 after me. OOPS. Unlike the other San Francisco locations (which are still amazing though), there is free 90 minute parking in a complex off Market and Noe - right across the hair salon. Besides the aesthetics of this studio, the workout is the main attraction. The red lights in the workout space and loud music are extremely motivating. Like many of the new studios, the class is 50 minutes and differs each day. Half the class is on treadmill, while the other half is on the floor. On the treadmill, the instructors will give you an incline and speed to follow and you can easily adjust it with the side panels. Depending on the day and the instructor, the floor exercises are also different. The floor has benches, weights, and resistance bands. If you are not a fan of treadmill, you can do double floor. Similar to how I think every workout experience is different for each person, every instructor's class has something special to it and I have so much respect for all the instructors for taking the time to curate motivational playlists and workouts. I have taken most of the instructors, but I highly recommend Tommy Luke, Crystal Giorgi, Georgia F., Vanessa O., Sam, Erica (on Filthy Fridays or Power lunch) and Nick Feeney (Just went to his Saturday and it was litttt). But all of the instructors are really good for the most part, and you can't go wrong with any of them! Besides the amazing instructors, the front desk and fuel bar staff, the maintenance, and corporate team are really helpful and welcoming. Hope to see more people in the red room! read more
