After living right next to the studio for the last couple years and having trouble finding the perfect gym/fitness studio for me, I decided to bite the bullet and treat myself to the unlimited first month of classes for $129--and I am HOOKED! As a morning person looking for early morning classes before work, I am pleased with the availability of the 6:00 & 6:50 AM classes every weekday. I try to go every morning and am also happy to have a different rotation of instructors every morning. I have historically done floor mat pilates but have never tried lagree and after a quick tour on my first class, it was pretty easy for me to pick up. I would say I was fully confident in knowing the names of all the moves after 3-5 classes. I would agree with other reviews that the classes can feel rushed and overwhelming if you've never done pilates or used the machine though. It's a very "learn-over-multiple-classes" type of workout method. It's a very controlled and meditative workout and the instructors are very mindful to include easier and harder variations and encourage you to push yourself. The studio is very peaceful with high ceilings, lots of fans, mirrors on 2 walls, with plants along another wall. The machines are wiped down after every class and some machines do have a couple minor cosmetics cracks or flaws but overall cause no problems. This studio does allow bare feet on the machines but they also sell their own branded grip socks and other merch in the lobby. There is a locker room, bathroom, and changing room attached to the lobby but the space is incredibly small so getting there early or lingering after clsss is not recommended. My only con is that the price of classes for around $30 each or the unlimited classes for +$200 a month can be a lot. The late cancellation fees of $15 and missed class fees of $20 are definitely a lot and really make me go to class in the morning. It was definitely way over my personal budget when I was originally looking for a fitness studio but I really do appreciate the convenience and what I get out of the classes. It's been the perfect class for me to roll out of bed, walk less than a minute to, get a GREAT & EFFECTIVE workout in JUST 40 minutes, and be ready for the rest of my day. I haven't gotten the chance to try out the other Core 40 studios, but I am incredibly happy with the studio in Lower Pac Heights!

Alison is the best! It was my first time trying a class and she made me feel super supported. She was attentive and corrected my form when needed as well as provided modifications when I struggled. I highly recommend taking Alison's class if you're looking for an early morning workout!

Great studio and instructor. I've taken Pilates classes before and this was by far the best experience.

Beautiful new studio in the middle of SF. Just finished my early morning workout an hour ago. They just opened up yesterday, so you can still smell the paint and the newness of the machines. Same great hard workout and same great instructors! This location could be deadly for me though, as it is so close to B. Patisserie! But after a grueling 40 minute lagree workout, a banana chocolate croissant is a much earned reward, right?

I tried out the Newbie unlimited pass, and was going about 3-4 times a week. What I love about this studio is that they seem to have instructors that are more invested with each of its clients. For instance, the instructors call out participants by name saying how great they are doing in a move. I also like how some instructors incorporate arm weights into the class, which look tiny, but are quite strenuous. My favorite instructors are Corri, Ina, Ariel, and Mara. After being here for a few months, I'd say 90% of the instructors are good, and you will get a good workout in. Some things I don't like about the studio are the booking options for the classes. By first glance, it looks impossible to book a class, as the options are almost always "waitlist only." I am pulled off the waitlist about 80% of the time, but not always. I always feel like in general, it's annoying to be put on a waitlist, instead of being confirmed right away. In addition, if I could change the membership options, what I would change is the options for classes per month. It skips from 8 classes/month to 12 classes/month, which is a big jump. Wish there was an option in between to choose from. Another bummer is the mirrors in the class. 80% of the reformer machines have mirrors on all sides, but there are a few spots that don't have many options, so it's hard to see yourself in the mirror to correct yourself. The parking is really easy in this area, which is amazing. Even in broad daylight, the residential parking a block down and over are free for 2-4 hours! Love that! In general, I really love this studio and would recommend if you want to try Reformer pilates.

I did 2 morning classes which worked out perfectly for my schedule and the parking outside (street cleaning so be aware of the days, also no meter paying until 9AM). The studio is very well setup, spacious and clean with good ventilation/ac. Reformers are staggered with lots of mirror around and motivational words up top (love that!). I appreciate the little baskets each reformer has for our personal items, such as smart way to keep out things in one place, next to us! Very high 4 stars rating, only things that brings it down is its soo pricey for a membership or per session... but that's a Pilates reformer class anywhere you go. Nevertheless, definitely worth the try and I just may be back every once in a while!

Pilates was suggested from my rheumatologist and my physical therapist. Started with some entry level group classes and found i loved them but also knew I need more 1 on 1 to ensure I was doing everything correctly for my EDS issues. Met Ramlah and now work with her 2-3 days per week when I am in the city. Only disappointing thing about this particular facility is they don't have a lot of formation classes, which are the ones you take in the beginning. Fortunately, I'm in a place where I am able to pay for privates, but I don't know if this is the place to come and learn in a group environment as they have so few classes. I found a couple of studios in my area that do offer them and will continue with privates but take some groups elsewhere that offer entry level classes the focus on form. ]

One change is that they have been sold to some sort of corporation. A few of the really good instructors left. Second they randomly started changing the classes. A few weeks ago I signed up for a reformer class that mysteriously got changed to a "power" class (much harder, maybe better for me but definitely not what I signed up for). This was the third or fourth time classes had been shifted without notifying the participants. The instructor said she just found out as well. Why? No idea. Also frustrating is that despite the fact I have come here for years there has never been any kind of thank you for your loyalty, hey it's your birthday here's a free class, here's a discount, nothing. It was a small studio that has now become a chain, so the vibe has shifted for sure. I wish them the best and thank them for all of the great classes I've had in the past but it's time to move on.

My only wish was that I had found this studio earlier when I lived just a block or two away, I would have been here all the time. I took Jen's class -- she's the owner -- and it's nice to find someone who is so nice, passionate and involved in her business. The space is small but has 5-6 reformers, some other equipment and one bathroom. Note that there's no separate changing area other than the one bathroom so if you're going to cut it close to the class, it may be best to change at home. The reformer class was excellent and was focus and controlled and I got a good workout in. Jen took the time to explain everything and made sure we were doing the moves correctly. Even though I didn't really sweat in the class, I did feel a little sore in my abs the next day and still got a god workout in. Would highly recommend this place if you like pilates classes like Body Chemistry in the Mission or Mercury Fitness in the Marina. These are the kinds of pilates studios I love to find and frequent. I don't really love the BodyRok or Core40 classes as much since they go too fast, seem very repetitive in the movements/exercises, and don't focus on form. These kind of classes are more of the opposite. 5 stars. Looking forward to taking another class here next time I'm back in San Francisco.
