Renshi Foster does a wonderful job of balancing discipline with fun. His passion for teaching is obvious and it has carried over to his leadership team members. If you're looking for a traditional martial arts school I highly recommend coming in and watching a class and meeting the instructors. Ichiban Karate is a member of the IMSS (www.theimss.org) and teaches Nintai Do Matsumura Shorin Ryu Karate Do. They offer classes for ages four and up. I was convinced that my child was best taught sensei Sarah who is also the owner. At first, my entire family felt welcomed and felt like we found a home. Unfortunately, Sarah and multiple members of her staff turned out to be very unprofessional, rude, and just downright mean. They seem to focus more on drama amongst the parents than they do educating the children. Sarah spread vicious lies about my child and her mental health to multiple other families and her staff. The staff begging to ignore my child and refusing to allow my child to participate fully with the other children in her class. She began to ignore my child and my family while still taking our money for the classes. My child's stepmother worked for free for this facility... Was never compensated... My child's father was a teacher and he had to step down due to the constant negativity and rumors being spread about a 10 yr old child. She is so negative she even tried to convince multiple people and her dojo To spread vicious, rumors and lies about her ass husband dojo so she could take his business! I would not recommend this dojo to anyone. Especially for a child!

I received an email from DTA today and I realized I never reviewed this academy although I had…read moreintentions of doing so years ago. Our son, Luke, attended DTA for a few years. He was diagnosed with Asperger's around the age of 4 years old and we were instructed to start him on medications. We disagreed and began occupational and speech therapy with our school district. We began looking for extracurricular activities he could participate in so we checked out DTA. We had concerns because at the time he was barely verbal and couldn't follow much instruction. We spoke with Mr. D about his diagnosis but also wanted to make sure that Luke was held accountable and treated, for the most part, like any other student. He loved it! Mr. D and his staff were incredibly gracious and much to our surprise Luke began learning patterns quickly having to remember several moves and techniques in order to move through different levels of skill. Several times he wasn't able to complete patterns to move through different belts and Mr. D didn't make exceptions if he didn't make it. However, he always encouraged him through his missteps and I witnessed Mike do this with other kids as well. Luke will soon be 17 yrs old and we are looking at colleges this spring. He has always viewed his years with DTA with fondness and it is clear that he was provided mentorship through several instructors as well as Mr. D. The money spent with DTA is really inconsequential for as much as we received in return. We can't recommend this place enough!
