Renshi Foster does a wonderful job of balancing discipline with fun. His passion for teaching is obvious and it has carried over to his leadership team members. Ichiban Karate is a member of the IMSS (www.theimss.org) and teaches Nintai Do Matsumura Shorin Ryu Karate Do. They offer classes for ages four and up. Some of the instructors have trained in Okinawa, and have a deep respect for the culture and the art of Shuri-Ryu karate. At the same time, they are extremely approachable and down to earth. They're some of the kindest and most patient people I've met, and they care deeply about their students. They will meet you at whatever level you're at, whether you're young, old, fit, or out of shape (even if maybe you've never formally exercised your whole adult life...). I highly recommend KSKD for its great instructors, fun environment, the skill level you can achieve if you put in the effort, and the price. I was actually quite surprised at how inexpensive KSKD is compared to other martial arts schools in Louisville. And they don't make you sign a contract; it's just month-to-month with three price levels, depending on how many days per week you want to go to class. The head sensei is very knowledgeable and has been practicing martial arts (karate and taekwondo) for 50 years!
