The only reason that I don't give Sorellina's one star is the location, ambiance, and service. I ordered the veal picatta for dinner. It was possibly the worst veal picatta I have ever had. The veal was rubbery; they put so much of the mediocre sauce on the plate it looked like soup. The wife had a salad that was well made, but how hard is it to make a salad. The tiramisu was blah. Like Matthew R. we made a reservation at Sorellina's but were moved to Slate's. There are multiple really good Italian restaurants in Traverse City. I would pick one of them. read more

This was our second time here, our Friends' first time. The food does NOT disappoint. Full of flavor - well balanced, authentic, hot & delicious! We each ordered a dish and shared family style. We made reservations at Sorellina because that is where we wanted to dine. When we arrived, we were told our reservation was actually at State's. Apparently, a reservation here does not guarantee you will be seated at the restaurant you booked and you may be randomly moved to the restaurant next door. Had we wanted to dine at State's, we would have made our reservation there. While the service at State's was excellent and we were able to order from Sorellina's menu, that is no different than ordering carryout and eating at home. We were very disappointed to make a reservation for one restaurant only to be redirected to another without any prior notice. If you want to eat here, it seems to be based on the luck of the draw. To us, a reservation meant nothing, and that was extremely frustrating. read more

What a fantastic experience! We were trying to pick a new spot and decided on Sorellina. When we walked in, we were greeted by Amanda. She was such a wonderful woman! She knew her customers well and we and absolute delight! We felt very welcome, and quite frankly, she made our entire visit better! Sorellina is attached to Slate, which is a dueling piano bar. So you could easily eat here and then go next door and enjoy some music! We chose a seat by the window and enjoyed people watching. It was a beautiful day so all the furbabies were out being walked. We found out that they have an amazing happy hour. The prices were really amazing! They have a three course meal for two for $45. That's right! $45!! I thought for sure it was $45 per person. But no. It was $45 for two!!! You had to order by 5:30 to get that deal so we were happy that we got there at 5. We ordered a Caesar salad and apple walnut salad. The Caesar salad was a bit to garlicky for me, but the apple walnut was amazing!! For entres we chose the chicken fettuccine and the chicken Piccata. Both were incredible!! For dessert we got a canolli and tiramisu. Oh! And you got either beer, wine, or soda including in that price. Crazy right?? Our waitress was amazing truly a sweet attentive soul! Bread at Italian places I've been to usually comes to table no charge so note you do have to order. Wine we had with our meals was enjoyed. Food was just average, we all enjoyed but not blown away. I had the Alfredo and sauce was not a creamy it was more maybe over cooked thick clumps on the noodles and just not much flavor. Food was amazing! Wasn't sure about the pumpkin cheesecake but that was purely to personal taste and not the food itself. Everything was delicious. Service was good but it was busy and it did take a second for us to get our bill, totally understandable. We just had a limit on our meter for parking so we had to leave pretty quick. Hosts were okay, we were told about 45mins so we left and walked downtown, we came back to check on our spot and we were told they thought they sat us and we weren't on the waitlist anymore, no biggie though, it happens; they immediately sat us and it was great from there! it was gorgeous inside though, the bar looked fun; will be back to sit there next time! 10/10 recommend this place to anyone who wants a nice dinner! read more

We came here for my birthday dinner. Overall we had a good time. First the two negatives- We had a reservation but were forced to wait outside until nearly 15 minutes after our reservation time. Hmm okay. Second, service was very slow and minus the appetizers, the food was very bland as is. After adding some (a lot) of black pepper, salt, and chili flakes, our group was able to enjoy our entrees. On to the positives - We had a nice large table in the upstairs area and our waitress was kind and managed her best to offer suggestions and be mindful of allergies. The Te Honga wine she recommended was possibly the best wine we had all weekend and it was nice that she confirmed the dishes were allergy free when she could. We also enjoyed the apps and all devoured the bruschetta while waiting for our main meal. It seems this is a very popular spot and I'm glad we could make the best of it. read more

The space and the staff was amazing. That said charging $4 for eight slices of bread and police oil was a little crazy. Most places this is complimentary provided. Anti pasta salad was nice as the plated it on separate plates for us. Salad was very tasty. The main dish was good, not great. The cheese on top was meaty but the cheese under was still unmelted and you can see the individual grated cheese pieces. Chicken parm, the edges of the chicken were burnt. The pasta with the chicken parm looked good. Overall found it to be on the over priced side. read more

I came here on a bustling Friday night and loved the ambiance! It's a mix of rustic, and high end modern chic. I was thrilled that we were seated right away and our server was enthusiastic to help us, even if a little ditzy at times. I was a little disappointed that bread is not offered complimentary here but it was tasty and we ordered it for the table. The dip it came with was tasty but could've used a little more of it with the ratio of bread given. I then moved onto ordering one of my favorite pastas of all time - the vodka pasta with chicken which was reminiscent of Carbone to me but in TC. Even though I could tell it was quite creamy and cheesy it was very delicious and tasty! I ended up finishing all of it. I didn't end up having room for dessert unfortunately but enjoyed our time here. The only snafu came towards the end when the waiter brought us the wrong check and was having trouble splitting our bill of two. I'd try to bring cash as I've noticed a lot of restaurants now are charging a credit card fee, so double check that before you visit here. Definitely worth a visit as this place is hip and comfortable and spacious, it is not too fancy or too casual if that makes sense which I appreciate and seemed to be great for couples/ friends and groups. Sorellina is absolutely divine! This place feels upscale without being intimidatingly bougie by any means, which is the winning combination! Their menu is small, but filled with so many delicious dishes, and their food is SO good! We ordered a ton of their appetizers, including the bruschetta, calamari, bread, shrimp scampi, and spinach and artichoke dip. The calamari was my favorite, but all were solid! The shrimp scampi isn't your typical shrimp scampi and is a lot more broth-y than you're probably accustomed to, but that's communicated up front. The spinach and artichoke dip is heavy on the artichokes as well. I also got the seafood bisque - SUCH a good, creamy bisque with tons of seafood in it too, while also not being overly heavy! For main(s), I got the "Tips & Fungi," which is their beef tenderloin and mushroom risotto entree. It was so good, the tenderloin was cooked to PERFECTION (I requested medium and I'm always so impressed when a place actually cooks it to your specification!), so tender and just a wonderful beef dish. The mushroom risotto paired perfectly with it as well and I was a happy clam eating this dish alone! But then my friend and I shared the vodka rigatoni as well! I was so torn between getting an entree or a pasta since I believe Sorellina is probably best known for their pastas, given that this was the biggest section on their menu! The vodka rigatoni came highly recommended from other friends in our group who had had it before and it truly was so delicious! Rigatoni is one of my favorite types of pasta and this vodka rigatoni was everything I hoped it would be! It was creamy and flavorful, but not too heavy! It could've used a bit more salt or sodium, and It came out a bit lukewarm, but that's to be expected given that all our food came out at the same time and we had a massive group! But overall, I was so happy with everything I ate and I ate A LOT! I left the meal thinking I was going to be comatose, but I think because because everything was perfectly balanced, portioned, and not too extreme, even though we had a ton of carbs! Lastly, but probably most importantly AND impressively, our service was PHENOMENAL! We came in as a giant group of 11 people and they were so accommodating! Not only that, but our waitress was so on top of all of our orders and constantly checked in on us. She didn't make a single mistake in any order placed, the drinks and the food all came out super quickly and we were never left wondering 'what was taking so long,' and then at the end we were that super ridiculous party that had 11 separate checks as well. Not a single mistake made on the checks and this was the only part that took a bit longer, which is completely understandable and to be expected given that she was ringing up 11 different bills and processing 11 different payments. I am kicking myself for not getting her name, but I'm truly so grateful to her and the well-oiled staff at Sorellina that assisted in bringing all our food out as well. All in all, I was blown away by how wonderful my experience was at Sorrelina. This is probably the best experience I've ever had with a large party and I feel like that is an encouraging thing to see of how well run a place is if they can handle such a large party! I had high hopes for this place but left disappointed. Sorellina's sister restaurant, McGhees, is one of our favorites in town. Our server was either brand new or just dumb, not sure which. She seemed pretty confused answering the few questions our party of 4 had. Drinks came to us rather sporadically. One of us ordered an espresso martini and it arrived more like chocolate milk than a martini. Then we were presented with a very nice Bruschetta and we figured it was their signature offering instead of bread. We were wrong. It was meant for the table next to us. We ate it not knowing that. When the server realized what had happened she sort of admitted it was their fault and we would not be charged. We were charged. When our dinners arrived they were placed on the table next to us- the one that was supposed to get the bruschetta- the 3 girls realized it was not their dinner and informed the staff, they picked up the plates and put them on our table. Maybe they were trying to get even for their bruschetta screw up. Our server- if you can call her that- came by and picked up my wife's plate, as she was finished. I was in the middle of eating mine and the server starts going over the dessert menu. Nice touch. We had had enough of the sporadic service and average food and skipped dessert. Probably gonna be a long time before we return, if ever. But McGees will always be on our go to list. read more

With a definite modern decor, I should not have expected traditional Italian restaurant. The service was good, the wait staff friendly, and the meal (what there was of it) was good. Having eaten at many traditional Italian restaurants across the nation and in Italy I have developed an expectation that was not met. This was the first that did not bring out bread and oil at the start. If I hadn't asked it never would have been brought. There was no mention of salad or wine. At this establishment, it is all an upcharge, which is fine, but they should train their wait staff to upsell and mention that it does not come with the meal. Being as the meal was small, a salad was never offered, and I had a bit of bread when I requested it, there was room for a Terramasu or a Canelli. Both of which they were out of (and at an early dinner seating), offering only a meager cheesecake cake of which there are many offerings of great cheesecake in town. The price we paid was a portion of what I was prepared to pay, as this was our anniversary. They left money (and an increased tip) in my pocket. Had the wait staff been trained to offer wine, bread, salad, and a traditional Italian dessert offering. Overall, the establishment left us disappointed. Which is too bad. The food was good, but the presentation of offerings was lacking. We cannot recommend Sorllina, at least until they provide some professional training to the staff. Everything about our dinner date was wonderful! The price point initially caught my eye as we were referred here by a friend. I have to say this was some of the best food I have had out to eat in a while! My husband had the antipasti salad and fell in love - wouldn't stop talking about it! Went here for a birthday dinner & was very disappointed with our experience. We wrote in the reservation comments that we were celebrating a birthday, and no staff members made any recognization of that nor made any special accommodations. Our server had an attitude and was absent all dinner, made only appearances to ask for drinks and when our food came, and when we needed anything throughout our time we had to ask other servers or the manager. The manager had to ask us if we needed more water because our server didn't even bring enough water for 6 of us. When the food did come out, it was very good, but some of the meals were cold. The fall is so hard. From my reservation at Resy, we got there early and tried to check in, the girl on the phone was vapid, we almost cancelled just based on that. Now the food and service has become mediocre. Devoid of salt and still mooing I sent mine back. The menu features homemade limoncello, but they don't have it and the alternative Italian sangria was bland like the food. My husband's lasagna was cheesy, but very underwhelming as was the spaghetti. Never given napkins, never took the menus away....classy!!! read more

Today we had such an unfortunate experience at Sorellina Italian Restaurant in Downtown Traverse City, Michigan. Let me first preface this review by saying that Traverse City is my family and I's happy place. We come up here multiple times a year and always make it a point to visit Sorellina. Over the past 10+ years, it has been our absolute favorite restaurant. We are always raving about it, so this year my wife and I decided to take my in-laws for the first time. We also brought our two small children. We made a reservation earlier that afternoon for 6:30pm. My FIL called and spoke to a gentleman on the phone and then got a text message confirmation of the reservation. We arrived and they said that they didn't have our reservation under Sam, but asked if it could be under Allison and he said yea it could have been, because that is my daughter's name, so they sat us at this booth in the back, so we think nothing of it. An hour later, we get approached by a Manager (Leslie Cole). She asked us if we had a reservation, we said yes, and then she proceeds to walk back up to the hostess stand (no pleasantries). She comes back and basically accuses us of falsifying our reservation to get this table. We give her the details of our reservation and she tells us that some other woman named Allison had the table reserved for 7:30pm. This manager was the rudest person that we have ever encountered in customer service. First off, if the hostess would have given us a last name, we would have said that isn't us. Also, why would we show up an hour early for our reservation, so that should have alerted them to maybe there might be a mix up. We would never intentionally steal someone's reservation and to be accused of such a thing really upset us. Secondly, they must have disclosed to the 7:30pm table that we stole their reservation. So during our meal, we had a woman and a man come over and make derogatory comments to us in front of our two young children (called us pieces of garbage, etc). This was beyond a classless thing to do over a dinner reservation, but that is beside the point. They should have never been told something that wasn't true in the first place. The manager never returned and avoided us the rest of the night. I understand that the restaurant had an upset table at 7:30pm, but because of how they handled it, they now have two upset tables. Not only did they ruin our meal and our night, but they caused us to end our family vacation on a terrible note. We won't be back and that is unfortunate, as we lost our favorite restaurant in TC and that this whole situation could have been avoided and handled so much better. I feel like I need to say that our waitress (Jessica) was great even though she was probably put in the middle of an awkward situation. read more

We made reservations at Sorellina months ago for a nice romantic dinner. When we arrived, we were sat in Slate, the misfit sibling of Sorellina. We were sat at a table that was between loud teens and a family with a toddler banging their fork on the plate. Food was delicious, no doubt. But the ambiance sucked. When the waitress asked about dessert, we asked about gluten free options. She said they have a flourless cake "that is actually really good". Um, are you saving other gluten free food sucks? We ordered appetizers and the entree for our two granddaughters and the food came out in a reasonable time frame. We then ordered the adults meals and it was well over 30 minutes before the food came. By the time the food came to our table it was cold. Not one of us finished our plate and I'm just sorry I paid for it. I did call the General Manager and discussed our experience and he was going to call Mme back and never did. I approached the bartender, to inquire about the fact that our drinks were sitting on the bar for over 20 min. The second order we placed conditionally that it would not take as long. Subsequently, we ordered a bottle of wine. Again, we watched as our drinks lingered on the bar. The wine arrived with filthy glasses. When I approached the bar tender, he was incredulous and insisted that it had only been 7 min. This was not true and our order was incorrect. So we had sorellina on our third night in TC, we weren't too impressed with the restaurant scene here because the first 2 restaurants we tried prior to were OK. We walked in with zero expectations and wow! were we surprised! The service here is EXCELLENT! Our waitress was so friendly! We had a baby in a stroller and the restaurant is spacious enough to accommodate that which we loved! For food, we started off with spinach artichoke dip which you can never go wrong with! For pasta, my husband I asked them to split the dishes- chicken piccata & chicken carbonara and both dishes were outstanding! We will definitely be back when we visit TC again! read more

After a long tiring day in sleeping bear sand dunes, starving , we were looking for a place good for food and our baby(4 months old) in a stroller. We found This place beautiful as you enter with wooden floors all over, one lady came in and considering the stroller with us, she took us to a corner table where it was spacious enough for the stroller as well. We felt relaxed in the dim light and soft music playing in background, clean shiny table tops and comfortable seats. Then the waitress came taking no time delivered us the food. Food from the start (bread with olive oil dip) till the dessert(tiramisu) was just "awesome". We all loved all of them. Spinach artichoke dip with flatbread, very crispy flatbreads warm and fresh and the dip right out from the oven was great to start with. Then we ordered our main course. I ordered Alfredo primavera and it was hot as made fresh at home and very tasty. Felt satisfied and delighted to eat it. My husband ordered carbonara with chicken and he couldn't stop eating until he finished it all. My mother had ordered eggplant parmesiano and it was all hot as if was made to order right on to the table from the pan. Very tasty it was too. Portions are big enough to satisfy an adult male.
