1/2 of the smoked whitefish buckwheat crepe appetizer
Linda S.

This has been one of our favorites in TC for many years! We love sitting on the patio, which they heat on evenings like tonight where the temp was 50* The menu is varied and regularly updated, from appetizers, soups, salads, entrees, and sides...it's all amazing! This evening, we shared the smoked walleye buckwheat crepe, with lemon horseradish aioli, pickled veg, and fresh dill. (Pictured is the crepe cut in half for each of us) Phenomenal salad tonight, which we also split (pictured), of Interwater Farm Grilled Peach, fresh herbs and shoots, sweet corn, smoked bacon, house-made ricotta with a Muskatel vinaigrette. Need we say more?! Hubby had the grilled Sakura pork chop (pictured) with a hot honey gastrique, charred cabbage, and green tomato relish. Not your ordinary pork chop, for sure! I enjoyed the grilled airline chicken breast seasoned with garlic and herbs de Provence (pictured), Dijon cream, buttermilk mash and fresh, crispy green beans. The chicken was SO juicy and flavorful! Our server, Amanda, was the best! All in all, another memory making dinner!

Delicious foods! Waiter was very good and liked the restaurant decor. Good drinks too.

Asparagus salad

The food was amazing and timed perfectly. Our server was informative and suggested the perfect entree. We had the country pate which was good and paired well with the grainy mustard. We then split the asparagus salad which the kitchen kindly divided on two plates. The salad was so fresh and good! Then we split the pork chop which was tender and bursting with unique flavors in the accompaniment of the sides. This was definitely was one our favorite meals. The desserts looked amazing but we were too full to try any this time. Cute atmosphere and in better weather there are some outdoor tables

Salmon - very good

Nice place to have a meal in downtown TC. We didn't have a reservation, but were still able to walk in and be seated right away during peak dinner hours. Our table was towards the back, near big windows that let a lot of light in. The restaurant has cute french bistro decor and a relaxed ambiance. For drinks, I was pleasantly surprised to see they had a few options for non-alcoholic cocktails - I settled on the watermelon spritz and it was very refreshing. For food, I ordered the salmon, but requested no butter or salt. It was supposed to come with black rice, and to their credit, they were honest and told me it had been pre-prepared with butter and salt, so switched it with potatoes. Everything tasted fresh and the other members of my party really enjoyed their dishes too, including dessert.

Another cute restaurant right in the heart of downtown Traverse City, located right next door to the State Theatre! We got a perfect street parking spot right outside the restaurant on Front Street, which was also super convenient, but I'd definitely expect that to not be the case during the summer, warm months when TC is overrun with tourists, so be forewarned that you'll probably need to find parking elsewhere further away, but there's plenty throughout the downtown area. The inside of the restaurant has a cozy, upscale feel to it. The lights are dim, the bar is surprisingly small, there's an open kitchen concept so you can see them cooking away, and there are tables all the way to the back where there are giant windows, giving you a prime view of Grand Traverse Bay. We came with a big party and I'd say this place isn't super well suited for larger parties. We had a party of 7 and their tables fit 6 comfortably, so they put a chair at the head of the table, which was pretty awkward because it was half into the walkway where waiters and customers were walking by throughout our entire dinner. There was also a bit of an issue in the restaurant and their online reservation system where it hadn't captured the correct amount within our party when our friend who had reserved it had changed the party size. The online system had confirmed the change, but the restaurant hadn't received the update so couldn't account for a larger party than 7 (we had tried to up it to 8). Food-wise, it was delicious! All of us really enjoyed our food. I got the mushroom stroganoff, which was divine! If you're a fan of mushrooms, you will definitely be a fan of this like I was! The different mushrooms offered different textures and the flavors were all so delicious, layered, and satisfying, without being too heavy or too creamy. They are also known for their raspberry crème brûlée and I'm a huge fan of crème brûlée so it was a no brainer that I had to order it! If I'm being honest, it didn't taste any different to me than any other crème brûlée I've had, but that also just means I enjoyed it a ton since this is one of my favorite desserts! All in all, a great meal and a great time with friends!

Returned to Amical for the Table D'Hôte dinner special and had a wonderful time! A great selection of craft brews from Bells, appetizer, small serving main course, and ice cream all for $29! Even though the portions were smaller, you are definitely filled by the end with all of the food! The Hanger Steak was delicious and cooked to a perfect medium rare with a balsamic reduction served with mashed potatoes and broccoli. The perfect excuse for an early dinner! Would definitely come back to try more items on this menu. As always, the wait staff was fantastic and provided excellent service to me, my wife, and our one year old who happily enjoyed coloring with the crayons provided by the restaurant.

Good

What a relaxing and beautiful atmosphere! We also had a view of the Bay. The flavors of the food were so subtle and interesting, and the entrees were prepared to perfection! The service was literally impeccable! We live in NYC but if I'm ever back in Traverse Amical will definitely be on my list!

My boyfriend and I made a reservation at amical while visiting in Traverse City because of the rave Google reviews. The food was pretty good, the spaghetti didn't have much flavor unfortunately. The octopus and duck were good! I don't know if the price of the food matches the quality and flavor of the dishes, personally. It took about 20 minutes before we were greeted by our server and as someone in the restaurant industry, that can be a bit disappointing but I also understand that it was busy so I know to show grace in those moments. Overall, I would recommend amical, but it's not the best place I've been to in TC.

Wow, this was definitely a hit! My friend of mine which is a local recommended this spot and I'm glad we trusted her. First of all, our server was AMAZING!! I hope she gets all the recognition she deserves. She was so funny and accommodating to us, really making us feel like home. I'm sorry I don't remember her name, but she was a brunette and a bit older compared to the other servers we saw. We got super lucky. We asked for the complimentary bread which was delicious, and started with wine and I got an espresso martini which was good. The french onion soup was such a hit! I should have ordered another, lol. I got the Shrimp Pasta, which was to die for, and my mother got the seafood special which was the branzino and very delicious. The food was out of the part for Traverse City. Sometimes going up north in Michigan, the food is mediocre, but this was definitely a stand out. I would be back!

Halibut.

Zach was our server and did an excellent job. I am always impressed and pleased when we have professional servers who care about what they do and pull it off well. The food was good to great with a relatively small but varied menu. All around a nice experience!

The daily menu was crammed with the best local foods and in August when we visited that meant cherries, luscious vine ripened tomatoes, blueberries and more. In fact I hard a hard time narrowing down even the 4 salads as they all sounded fantastic as did the 10 appetizers. In the end we opted to share some things starting with the light crab "puffs" (really golf-ball-sized crab/rice cakes) which were delicious although a bit light on the accompanying sauce. Next we savored the small summer salad made with juicy dark purple tomatoes, fresh basil and slivers of mozzarella. Our entree was the pecan crusted white fish that was also nicely prepared. Note they add a somewhat outrageous charge for a split plate-around $16, so our fish ended up costing $66! For dessert we chose the turtle sundae festooned with crunchy toasted pecans and a house made caramel sauce. There's a nice wine list too. Service here was top notch with constantly filled water glasses and a very professional staff. I was really pleased and surprised to find a restaurant of this quality located in a tiny vacation hamlet. Highly recommended

We wanted to book one fancy dinner while in the Leelanau/GA/Leland/TC area - and I'm so glad this…read morewas our pick!! While we love great food, we are not "foodies" who do well with super modern/unique takes on classics - and after perusing many menus of different restaurants in the area, we felt like Blu was the right mix of fancy but delicious and classic and we were not disappointed! Pro tip: book a reservation and look when sunset is - we did the 8pm seating with the sun setting around 9-9:30 and if was amazing. They have see through blinds, but raise them up for the sunset and many people walk out to go take a picture on the beach right outside! It's a small intimate restaurant, so in general booking a reservation is advised. The gnocchi was amazing and so flavorful with sun dried tomatoes and succulent shrimp. My spouse got the lamb and really enjoyed the garlic and sauce Robert- and was so happy that it wasn't traditional mint sauce with lamb. The scallops were extremely rich with the asparagus risotto. We did split a crème brûlée which was just okay (maybe a bit too eggy in the texture?) , but they do use real vanilla bean and overall we were stuffed at that point. They have an extensive wine list, cocktail list, and mocktail list which I appreciated as a lady on her baby moon trip :) best Shirley temple I've ever had with real homemade grenadine made from real cherries! Staff is attentive, kind, and always checking to make sure you're taken care of. Overall, yes it's pricey, but for the delicious food, view, overall fanciness - I think it's justified and worth it for a special occasion! We would love to come back in the future.
