Tokyo Joe's small but it's in the East Village (justifies the size and you have your pick of other things to do afterwards nearby). It also pre-dated Buffalo Exchange at least two decades: They are ultra serious about their brands and quality in a Japanese-strict way, so it makes it a treat if you're stopping through to look! The women who work there may not be friendly and may even chat away in Japanese with each other while you're there but they're NEVER, EVER talking about you (it's like when you're at a Duane Reade/Walgreens or other chain store in the city where the BIPOC workers are bored, have no buy-in, and need something to do*). You'll get ALLL the friendliness you need in an equivalent store in Japan: Maybe even too much, honestly. My partner was treated well consigning a fall jacket, and that's done partly electronically now, including making the appointment and receiving your estimate. The employees at Beacon's Closet may be more polite but they make you wait around for your estimate like a dog. Tokyo Joe's does not: They will send it to you afterwards. *There's also high turnover of merchandise in the tiny store: When you're not there there's a ton of activity behind the scenes.

This place is pretty small, but packed to the brim. They do offer a quite a few higher end options, as well as a few very high options and regular options. I would say this is leaning more high end for a vintage place. They also have a small selection of vintage jewelry that are reasonably priced. I got a pair of cute Rag and Bone jeans for ~$45 so definitely a good cop in my opinion! I was a bit....nervous though about the process to try on the pants. At first glance, there doesn't seem to be a fitting room, but when I asked the sales associate, he said there was. Well....it turns out the fitting room is just a very small area in the middle of the store where they pull some curtains around you. I was kind of nervous because anyone could just walk into the curtains at any point and see me changing. Fortunately, I had a friend with me who I made guard the curtains, but I feel like this would've been a nerve wracking experience for individuals shopping alone :(

Before I say anything else about this place let me just discuss this: The first thing that I noticed about Berlyn 65 is that the shop smells exquisite! The owner made sure that there is this wonderful aroma as you walk into the place that tantalizes your senses and it made me very content and experience a sense of calm energy. This shop has some real goodies! My eyes were focused on the soft, elegant chair throws! This was so very true that I had to take a picture of the luxurious gray chair throw that is on a chair near the store entrance. The throw comes in a variety of colors and they were valued at $150. The shop decor is delightful which goes with the owner's peaceful energy that I felt was exuded towards me and my coworkers as we looked around Berlyn 65. She was pleasant, kind and displayed wonderful customer service. I will make sure that I return to view all of the great selection of items that are sold at Berlyn 65!

Not once did the girl (cashier) mention that they were fake, i even asked her how often she gets shipment and if they sold them at their actual store in Brooklyn. (i purchased these at their booth in Bryant Park) She even stated that they bring all the good blind boxes to the booth and how it's best to purchase them now rather than later. The 2 gentlemen who run this boutique are super friendly and helped me make my selection. The vintage jewelry selection is terrific and all the items are in very good shape. The bags are beautiful and carefully curated. The clothing looked lovely and none of that "thrift store" smell. Everything looked and smelled fresh.
