I usually go into vintage and thrift stores with specific styles and pieces in mind, and I can generally find what I want or something similar here because the selection is so extensive! The prices here are very fair too, compared to other stores in the area. Plus, the staff here are very relaxed and kind! I recently came in with my friend who has diabetes so she keeps a pack of candy on her in case her blood sugar gets low. Although food or drink isn't allowed in the store, we explained her condition to the worker at bag check-in and they were very accommodating and allowed her to keep the candy on her.

Some things were real vintage and some felt like new vintage inspired pieces because there would be ten of the same thing on a rack. I'd say the best section was the shoes, lots of Doc Martins, vans, and converse. This place is packed with stuff which makes it hard to move around and look through the racks. It was very busy so I guess other people like it but I don't consider this to be real thrifting. This is a curated vintage store and you pay the price for it.

They have anything from records, Mr raisin people from the 80s, sunglasses, clothing, furniture, jewelry, accessories, etc. I scored 2 awesome dresses, and my friend found some killer St. Patricks Day overalls (green w/ clovers all over). Every time I visit I will gladly be stopping in here. The girl that was working was really friendly and told us there's new stuff coming in all the time so to check back. I will definitely be back Vintage Collective & I hope my fellow yelpers stumble in here because I'm sure you won't leave empty handed. Cheers & Enjoy!

I think I'm in the minority here thinking Monk is a decent thrift store. I hate to be this person…read morebut I'll cop to getting skeeved out by used clothing stores because I've read too much about people getting hand foot mouth disease from those bins. Does everyone shop with rubber gloves on in these stores? I don't like the funk that a lot of thrift stores have either. HOWEVER I'm fully on board with not shopping fast fashion and buying second hand being a better alternative, so I'm trying to find a happy medium. At least Monk feels curated such that I don't feel like I have to dig too much before I find something cute. And I saw several cute items at this store. Yes, I usually do spend like $40+ on an item from here but that's less than I'd spend on a new item. I found a gorgeous mesh and beaded dress and a silk skirt that I still cherish from here. You may have to come back regularly to get lucky and find something you like, but I think they have a pretty wide selection of items. Lately I've opted to mostly rent my clothes so I still get the experience of having new clothes without buying new fast fashion but during the occasional thrift sojourn I'll stop in here to browse.

I've been here multiple times to consign before I found a non-Japanese consignment place closer to…read moreme now (but with less of a personality). Tokyo Joe's small but it's in the East Village (justifies the size and you have your pick of other things to do afterwards nearby). It also pre-dated Buffalo Exchange at least two decades: They are ultra serious about their brands and quality in a Japanese-strict way, so it makes it a treat if you're stopping through to look! The women who work there may not be friendly and may even chat away in Japanese with each other while you're there but they're NEVER, EVER talking about you (it's like when you're at a Duane Reade/Walgreens or other chain store in the city where the BIPOC workers are bored, have no buy-in, and need something to do*). You'll get ALLL the friendliness you need in an equivalent store in Japan: Maybe even too much, honestly. My partner was treated well consigning a fall jacket, and that's done partly electronically now, including making the appointment and receiving your estimate. The employees at Beacon's Closet may be more polite but they make you wait around for your estimate like a dog. Tokyo Joe's does not: They will send it to you afterwards. *There's also high turnover of merchandise in the tiny store: When you're not there there's a ton of activity behind the scenes.

This place is pretty small, but packed to the brim. They do offer a quite a few higher end options, as well as a few very high options and regular options. I would say this is leaning more high end for a vintage place. They also have a small selection of vintage jewelry that are reasonably priced. I got a pair of cute Rag and Bone jeans for ~$45 so definitely a good cop in my opinion! I was a bit....nervous though about the process to try on the pants. At first glance, there doesn't seem to be a fitting room, but when I asked the sales associate, he said there was. Well....it turns out the fitting room is just a very small area in the middle of the store where they pull some curtains around you. I was kind of nervous because anyone could just walk into the curtains at any point and see me changing. Fortunately, I had a friend with me who I made guard the curtains, but I feel like this would've been a nerve wracking experience for individuals shopping alone :(
