I've been here twice now…read more My first class was in 2023. I found them on ClassPass and I took a Tuesday night Yin class with Carley. I was not impressed. The sequencing was odd and her commentary wasn't my style. At some point, she said something like, "think about... I don't know... the window" and I just couldn't let it go. lol. Like, just not for me. I took a Sculpt class today with Aaliyah. It was fine, at best. I've been fortunate enough to take similarly-formatted classes at other studios - big, small, local, national - and this one just missed the mark. Aaliyah did a GREAT job of letting you know what to expect, and coaching you through doing moves correctly. But dear god, the insanely long breaks between every. Single. Move. And. Each. Block. Threw me off! At one point, there was like an actual 2-3 minute break. I burned under 300 calories for an hour-long class which NEVER happens for me. I think part of the issue was that she was doing every move with us and was getting pretty tired herself. The pace wasn't consistent enough for me. But there were older and pregnant people in class so maybe that's the gentler version. I appreciate that there's a yoga offering in this location but the styles here aren't for me. Like, I didn't even need or want a savasana at the end and didn't have the same clarity I normally do. That said, if you want a class where you're not really pushed to your edge and you want a slower pack with more sculpting handholding, this place is great!

Amazing yoga sculpt (weighted yoga practice with some cardio and lots of toning). I particularly…read moreenjoy Adrienne and Trish who are equally encouraging and motivating. Great is instructions and meant for multiple experience levels. I'm a casual yoga goer and love this class.

This is an overdue review but, I finally sat down to do it. In 2020 Mind Your Body Oasis became a…read morevery special place for me. Although I visited MYBO before 2020 a few times for different services I didn't realize what I had until it was taken away from me during the craziest year of my life. When I felt alone, depressed, anxious, sad, upset, confused and all the feelings that came with that crazy year I finally realized what I had. Once they opened back up after the pandemic, I signed up for a monthly package. I enjoyed the sauna and Thai Massage with Amanda so much that then led to me purchasing the yearly membership. I made sure that I would continue to keep this place close to me and commit myself to much needed self-care that my body needed. In 2021 I experienced a sudden death in the family - a person that I was close to. I knew I needed a massage to heal, but I found myself once again like I did in 2020, sad, depressed and lost. I finally booked my monthly appointment and I will never forget that night. Amanda gave me a Thai massage and I was able to release the emotions which I was experiencing. And now that brings me to this year 2022. Last week I was dealing with some family issues with a close sister. We both agreed to disagree on a relationship she is currently in. After months of not telling her how I felt, I finally did, only to face the fact that I may not speak to her again for a very long time. The next night I had an appointment with Amanda. She worked on me once again and helped me release all the emotions I was feeling and holding back. During this session, the Underground Shops lost electrical power. Amanda, another massage therapist, a yoga teacher, and a martial arts class were still open and available to their clients. Amanda always seems to know exactly what my body needs. She sometimes ends my massage with chimes, drum, sound healing, and fascia blasting. I don't know where I would be the past couple of years if it weren't for Amanda and the studio. I am so grateful to have them both in my life just when I needed them. I've also gotten really good massages from Kimberly and Muscular Manipulation from Eric. I highly recommend them both as well. If you've put off getting a massage here or taking advantage of the convenience of having a local infrared sauna don't put if off any longer. I sleep like a baby each time I use them together.

Everyone, from staff to students is friendly and welcomings, which makes for a happy and welcoming atmosphere. The tea station and large round table is such a nice touch and really feeds the community atmosphere at the studio. I wish more yoga studios were like this. I took the Kundalini Yoga class with Sat Katar Singh. He's amazing. He is calm and wise with a playful sense of humor, which creates a nice energy in the class. I'll definitely return when I am back in town and I look forward to experiencing the wide range of classes and teachers that the studio offers.

I have been out of practice for a bit so this was a nice re-entry point. While the music and instruction and very quiet setting were different from my preferred yoga style, I will say that Angelina was a good teacher. The sequencing of the flow was great and I felt very challenged. I also appreciated how engaged she was with each student in different ways and the hands-on assistance she provided. I've been doing yoga for a while but there are still postures I'm confident aren't exactly right. She helped me correct a few and I was very grateful. She also recognized my flexibility and gave me additional adjustments/gentle pushes to get deeper into some postures. I also appreciated Mo at the front desk who was very nice and welcoming. Sometimes, when I come to smaller studios where everyone knows each other, I feel out of place but that wasn't the case here. Thanks, Radiance!

They had been encouraging me to sign up, and I was looking forward to having built-in accountability partners to help me stay consistent on my fitness journey. We had already started working out together and even took a few group fitness classes, which made going to the gym something I actually looked forward to. Unfortunately, my experience took a disappointing turn. During one of my workouts, my friend was simply showing me how to use a machine that I wasn't familiar with. We were approached by an employee and told that helping me was prohibited. As someone who was new and still learning, that interaction left me feeling embarrassed and unwelcome. For many people, starting a fitness journey is intimidating enough without feeling like you can't lean on the friends who encouraged you to take that first step. That moment left a bad taste in my mouth and completely changed how I felt about the gym. I ultimately decided to cancel my membership because I no longer felt comfortable or supported in that environment. It's unfortunate because I truly wanted this to be the place where I built healthier habits with the people motivating me to succeed.

Classes are about 1hr and you are sweating the whole time. Jonese is a great trainer and keeps me motivated the entire time! I highly recommend you come and try out the classes, you will be HOOKED.

Long overdue review, where do I begin?…read more It is very hard finding a personal trainer with their own gym/studio in the upper Marlboro/Clinton/Waldorf area. I found Johnnie Boi Fitness (after the birth of my son and when I was in desperate need of a new community of associates and support). After the website and investigating a la Google, I still needed a push. I begged my husband to gift me my first set of classes. My husband is a negotiating fool. Anyone that can patiently work with him is talented. After his initial call, he called me and said, "I have a feeling you're really going to like this trainer." I do. I love Jonese and the Johnnie Boi Fitness team. What I love most is: 1) Smaller classes that allow for more one-on-one attention. I tend to be disordered and sometimes lacking confidence. I need my trainer to check on me a little. When you're standing behind 25 other people, that can be hard to do. At Johnnie Boi Fitness, it's just the right amount of personalized attention to correct you, push you a little harder and to make sure you're not injuring yourself 2) Guest instructors/class variety - Jonese offers a wide variety of classes. Perfect for someone like me who gets bored eating leftovers. Patrons can try new classes, be it yoga or boxing. These classes can be taught by other fitness experts. This allows you to throw a curve ball in your routine and not hit a plateau. Also, I like a one-stop-shop type of gym without the big Walmart feel---easy to get in, get out, work out and go. Not spend an hour looking for a parking spot, searching inside for the location of your class, and when you get there, everyone is ho hum *yawn*. Ohhh and did I mention that one day, we had hydrolyzed protein shakes made for us post workout. Sooooo good! 3) No worries if you forget something - Just like Hilton, if you forget a toothbrush, the front desk has you covered. Jonese does provide water, towels (very nice ones might I add--and nice hand towels), mats, etc. I try to remember my own supplies, but sometimes, my mind plays tricks on me. Nice to know I won't have to wipe my sweat with my sleeve. 4) Common sense - Jonese has a lot of it. The classes I attend weekly are challenging, but I'm not concerned that I'll have to get knee replacements by age 40. Over the past decade, the number of knee replacements has increased by more than 160%. I'm not concerned that my knees, hips and other joints will require major surgery because Jonese made me do 150 burpees in 10 minutes. 5) Fresh Air - we workout outside too. Nice change of scenario. I'm learning new techniques and workout strategies 6) Cost- Jonese is EXTREMELY reasonable with the cost of her classes for first timers and ongoing patrons. Affordability will never be a concern. In fact, Jonese is very accommodating, humble, friendly, compassionate, intelligent, and professional. 7) The equipment and bathrooms are ALWAYS clean. Lockers are provided to store my purse and other items. 8) The music is respectable- I'm not easily offended and don't care either way, but I love that I can bring my aunts or others to class with me and they won't hear derogatory language. I'm used to working out to Luke "I wanna rock" at home so even if Jonese decided to play a little Future or Tupac, I'm in there. Client for life! I thought I would be intimidated at first and chicken out. Best decision ever was joining Johnnie Boi Fitness! I'm very happy!
