Been here a few times and a lot has improved. They've removed the big fallen trees in the water...and the cabin and glamping is super fun! Additionally, they've made the bring your own tent area much smaller, and provided Bell tents in the places where you used to bring your own so you don't have to deal with the hard mud. You can just go and pay to go in one of their tents that have air-conditioning and beds And they sleep up to five people. They also allow up to 15 people in the 2 story cabanas for a fee. 8 people are free. There seems to be a lot of improvements happening all the time this place is really fun. It looks like they have bands sometimes on the weekends and it's just a really cool place that the kids will love. read more

Visited for a friends birthday. We all had a good time, the cabana was great for our large group. I do wish the water was higher but we're in a drought so what can you expect. This is our second time coming to a Son's property and we had a good time. The highlight of the experience though was the snow one truck that came through. Man on man, where do I want to start... The actual weekend there with friends was awesome! 5 Stars! The tiki huts you can rent by the water are awesome. The river itself is wonderful. The whole camp & weekend was truly amazing. The few employees we actually encountered were very kind too. But... There were no functional restrooms & only a couple functioning showers (that had so many spiders). We had 1 PortaPotty that we shared & by we I mean all of the people camping plus the people renting for the day. It was terrible. We were there for three days and two nights, and had several children with us. It was so bad. The restroom experience was so awful that I almost rated my entire experience as a one. We reserved in advance, and they knew we were coming yet, but no-one took the time to prepare restrooms for our group of 23. We stayed in the Bell Tents which are not Glamping, they are pretty rough around the edges. We like to rough it when camping so it wasn't a problem for us. But our friends who are not used to rough camping did struggle. Highly recommend only Bell Tents 14 - 16. They are the only ones not under the string lights, and they also have trees above them providing shade. All of the other bell tents are exposed to the sun all day, and then at night are under the string lights that do not turn off. If you rent bell tents 1 - 14, bring a sleep mask. I wish I could say I knew for a fact we would come back, but the restroom situation was so awful. I would need some kind of guarantee from them that that was corrected before I would go back, especially with kids. read more

Perfect spot to cool off this summer! They have options for daily cabana rentals, as well as glamping options if you want to stay, and you will want to stay! Kayaking, swimming, paddle boarding, and tubing with a shuttle are all available on site. Of course this is all on the beautiful and cold San Marcos River Bring sunscreen and snacks and your favorite group of people! I took one star because I think the facilities could use an upgrade, but remember people if you're camping you will get dirty and there will be bugs and critters!! read more

Gave it 3 stars since we were out of electricity for a couple of hours, apparently everyone lost electricity, and it was very hot that day, we definitely needed the fans on. When I reserved a "luxury clamping cabin" I was not expecting a thin tent. I could hear people walking outside of our tent all night so I hardly slept. I tried to turn the TV on so I wouldn't hear people talking outside all night but guess what? The TV didn't work!! I tried to play some white noise on my phone but guess what? The wifi didn't work!! There was no bathroom or shower in our tent so we had to walk to the dirty communal bathrooms that smelled pretty bad. We tried to float the river but it was pretty dried up so we ended up walking with our tubes at least half of the time. Our bottoms and legs got torn up from rocks since it was shallow & we were scraping along the bottom when we tried to float. The cabanas aren't right on the river like the original son's island which is disappointing. The river was pretty crowded. Honestly the cabana rental felt like a waste of money since we didn't have our own little area like the cabanas at the original son's island. The "glamping cabin" didn't have plates or silverware so we ended up eating our steaks and potatoes off of a piece of cardboard. Overall I was unimpressed and when I told an employee about the wifi and TV not working, he didn't seem to care. read more

Had the best time here! Second time here. They have rental cabanas that sit alongside San Marcos River (I believe). You can float the river as well as grill at the cabana. Cool place , rented a cabana and a Bell tent for a day/ night adventure with friends. The pathway to get to certain cabanas is confusing and often find yourself going through someone else's cabana to get to yours , great location although you have to get there early if you want a shallow spot for kids to play in, the current is pretty strong but there is a shallowish beach area , my wife AND son both caught a bass while here. Place is chill, gets pretty busy , bathrooms get nasty quick. Lots of different vibes , from chill to party time to family time. Either way it's a good time . Our bell tent was ok for the most part. We knew what we were signing up for , a tent right next to a loud parking lot with a bright ass light they kept on all night which was rather annoying honestly . Bring your own linens, we didn't have a lamp or a side table as the website stated so we kinda struggled with two kids in there , I did attempt to walk to the check in trailer to ask but by that time it was closed up . Our bottom zipper didn't zip so it actually let the heat in a lot . When we got there we must have got to a previously empty site as our trash can was completely filled with the volleyball games trash , so it brought alot of flies . Overall the tent was cool i wish they only would have shut that Bright light off , we'll be back but next time I wanna try the nicer tent options , although they were very far from the water , and Parking is tough as they told someone in our cabana to directly part somewhere then later came and literally told them to move it to a different spot read more

Amazing place! Amazing staff! Made for an all around fantastic weekend. I found this place last minute for my buddy's 40th birthday after our original plans fell through. We lucked out! The property, layout, and amenities are fantastic, but what made our experience was the staff. Colton made us feel like we were flying first class. We had brought our own kayaks but weren't too familiar with the river. Colton had a great knowledge of the area and helped us plan a A+ day-trip. Even though shuttles weren't running that day (we went in October / off-season), he personally helped us with drop-off and pick-up. When we needed and extra kayak, he loaned us one on the honor system, allowing us to repay when the shop opened upon Saturday. He also had some epic stories of his adventures on the Devil's, San Marcos, and Rio Grande when he dropped firewood off around the camp later that night. Thanks, Colton, for all your help and making it an awesome weekend, that almost didn't pan out at all. I look forward to revisiting Son's Blue River Camp, especially during summer/prime season. As a guest I loved it. I enjoyed myself so much, my family and I will be coming back to enjoy a stay'cation. They have it all. They have tents with beds and air conditioner, cabanas with a second story, canopies with chairs, and umbrellas with chairs. They have BBQ pits and tables. You need only to take yourself and food. I do wish they had restrooms instead of port a potty. The area is clean and staff are super friendly. I have nothing but great memories of my visit. Definitely coming back soon. read more

I had no idea about this hidden gem. I absolutely loved this place. This place has tents, two story cabanas, and cabins. It even offers are "glamping" experience. We rented a cabana from 7-11pm and the first level of the cabana has benches, tables, a grill area and a hammock. The top level had more seating and a wrap around table sort of like a bar area. Our cabana was right on the river and although there were other cabanas around us it still felt pretty secluded especially during COVID. There was a stage area close by as well for performances to be held although there wasn't any when we were there. The downside to this is that you can only use Porta Potties and I wish they would have had other restrooms as the potties were so disgusting especially at night. We will definitely be returning to actually do some camping next time. read more

We stayed in a glamper and here are the pros and cons from our 3 day visit. pros- very clean, new facilities, family friendly, quiet time from 11pm - 7am, warm showers, electricity, easy access to the water and plenty of grills. The hammocks were great! Cons- basically no WiFi but if you don't need it, it's not a big deal, AC unit inside tent was either broken or not efficient enough for the tent, adding fans did help but still very warm. The younger staff seemed very lack of urgency and dismissive to guest. Overall, the place is good and not far off from being great! Their website needs updating and information about pets, location of the GOOD showers and restrooms and a little bit of sense of urgency from the staff, especially when the AC abt working. read more

Chose to go on a Monday and Tuesday in October to avoid crowds and noise, since we were looking for a quiet and restful time. We usually avoid public camping grounds bc of nighttime noise, but thought we would give this a shot only because of their verbiage that quiet hours are "strictly enforced" between 11pm-7am. A very inconsiderate group showed up and started playing loud music and yelling and partying about 10:30pm. The campground only provides one phone number and one email, and there was NO ONE we could find to enforce those quiet hours. After calling several times, the night dispatcher finally found the person who was supposed to be hosting and convinced them to shut down the party about 1:30 pm. It was so unpleasant, we did not stay for our second night. Trying to get a human person to talk to us about this awful experience has been impossible. read more

Rented cabana today. Was fun but 0 rules enforced. Belligerent drunk kids blasting insanely inappropriate music right next to us the entire time. I drink, I like rap/hip hop, but it was crazy loud and inappropriate. Couldn't hear my kid talk to me standing 2 feet away. Around 5pm an employee arrived on the scene that finally started laying the hammer down- not with our ridiculous neighbors but with people jumping off the bridge and leaving their tubes for workers to clear out. Everything was clean. Cabanas have abundant seating. Porta potties surprisingly nice. Was a bit pricey overall. Water is chilly but when the sun got hot it was awesome. read more

My family wanted to do something different for the weekend and stumbled upon this online. We booked the two-story cabana for a Sat and did the glamping overnight. In looking at the pictures on their website, I was super stoked! But what you don't see on their website is the crazy amount of silk/web worms all over the cabanas and hanging in the net above your heads inside the tents. They look like caterpillars and can be alarming if you didn't know they were harmless. It was disturbing having a couple fall on my face while standing right below the cabanas. BUT, one of the employees did tell me me that they are addressing the issue at the end of the month before it gets out of hand. In my experience, the two story cabana wasn't necessary for our family of six. We only went up there once for pictures and pretty much stayed downstairs the remainder of the time. Like the previous Yelper said, it's only four barstools upstairs. I think if we had a bigger group, maybe we would have utilized or enjoyed the cabana more. But for us, I think one of the shaded picnic tables by the river would have sufficed. We brought our own lawn chairs to sit on the water instead of renting and that was perfect! I would HIGHLY recommend bringing your own along with water shoes. Holy crap the little rocks were hard to walk on!! Water shoes is a must as flip flops will easily slip off your feet and float down the river. If you cannot swim, I would say wear a life vest (I don't know if the camp provides any). The water this past weekend had semi-strong currents and can easily sweep you away. They have tubes to rent for $15 (expensive!), but I feel like it's pointless to go down a river where transportation isn't provided beyond a certain point. You can take the tube and walk up the river bank to float down to the end of the camp ground over and over again if you want to spend the energy. But I've seen the kids do it and they had fun. For the "glamping", I can understand why they called it glamping since there are mattresses on a spring along with two small industrial fans. But that's the extent of it. Pillows, blanket or bedsheets are not provided as stated on their website. They do have lighting in the tents and you can plug in your devices to the sides of the fan. Being a city girl and not use to camping, I did not enjoy my night there. The ceiling of the tents have netting to keep bugs from falling onto your face. But the sight of them crawling around gave me the heebie jeebies. I know this is out of their control, but just wanted to put this out there in case anyone wanted to know. Because the tents sit out there all day and night, the number of bugs on the net accumulate. And of course a couple bugs here and there do get inside the tent. That's without being said. The tents are also first come first serve. So as you drive up to check-in, you'll be handed a clip-on badge for each tent rental for you to clip on your tent to let others know it's taken. Unfortunately, we didn't know you can choose your tent before the tent check-in time. Otherwise, we would have gotten there a lot earlier. So our options were far back or right in front of the check-in. We chose closest to the check-in, which was also closest to the cabanas where we heard people at all times of the night. So I'd recommend choosing one away from check-in. There currently are only two outdoor showers that tends to have a line by the end of the day. The lights in the shower are a joke. I have raised the issue of only having two showers and not being big enough and they said they are actually installing two more showers for a total of four showers that will take up the size of a cabana. Bathrooms are limited to porta potties with nowhere to wash your hands. However, they do provide hand sanitizers. No flashlights are needed for your stay, there are sufficient lighting around the camp grounds. And there is always at least one staff onsite overnight in case you need anything. Overall, I'd come back to enjoy the day in the water, but not to stay overnight. The employees were super nice and helpful. As long as you pack everything you need, you'll have a good time out in the water. read more

Go for the tubing and don't stay the night unless you book the glamping tents. It was easy for the cabanas and the tubing and that was all great. But I spent about $300 total for tubing, a cabana, and air conditioned tent. Our tent only blew hot air and the power went out every hour. I had to text workers multiple times and was told it would blow cold air if we gave it time, but it had been on for 3 hours. It made for miserable sleeping conditions. I've also never been somewhere where the porta potties were cleaner than the bathrooms. Dirty and no toilet paper. Go for the tubing and don't stay the night. read more

I reserved a cabana for us for my son's 17th birthday. He took four friends. We went to the Son's Island location in Seguin last year and had a wonderful time. It was an island you could Kayak or tube around. Lots of water front areas, lake/river was large so you weren't on top of each other. Great experience. It is now closed, so we booked Son's Blue River Camp. Two weeks before our visit, they started offering $99 cabana rental. Almost half what I paid, but since we were within the 50% cancellation fee window, couldn't rebook. Our cabana was nice, included a grill, hammock, table and plenty of seating. The "river," however, was extremely disappointing! It was more like a small creek! I'm not good at calculating lengths, but my guess was there was less than 200 yards of water to share with MANY people! It was extremely crowded - every cabana booked (to be expected in May). Kayaking was not allowed in this small area, nor was tubing. You had to pay an additional $19.99 to $29.99 to be taken up river and float back down. We did not know this as it was not clear on the web page, and we brought two kayaks. You were also warned that if you kayaked or tubed past a large sign, you would have to pay a $500 fine to be "rescued" from private property. One very large group of at least 20 people put their chairs in the river, and sat there all day, blocking at least half of the "river" in one spot. My husband and I decided not to get in the crowded "river," and sat in the cabana, which was nice until the group in the cabana directly behind me (like 4 feet behind us - these cabanas are JAMMED together!) decided to play music on his gigantic speakers at a deafening level - again, 4 feet from our cabana. I absolutely don't mind other people's music, and in fact, enjoyed what was being played in other cabanas at a respectable volume, but we couldn't even talk to each other! The worst part was after they turned it on, they were no where to be found! Someone mentioned lack of staff. Not wrong! Once we were at the cabana, we never again saw even one staff member! We had questions, but could find nobody to answer our questions. I gave this 2 stars because my son and his friends had a good time, despite the very limited water area and not being able to kayak. I absolutely would not waste my money to go back here. If and when Son's Island in Seguin re-opens, then I would go there again, but not Son's Blue River Camp. It was VERY underwhelming! read more

As beautiful as the sites are here. I would not recommend it due to what we experienced. So we were meeting friends for camping. They confused the tent with the cabin and told us the wrong details. But gave us a code. We get to the cabin to put the food in there and the code works. So we didn't question it. Until they came looking for us down by the river saying we were breaking and entering that it was a felony. seriously!!! So turns out someone didn't lock the door and we made a mistake. They said people were in there. No one was. We thought we used the code to get in. Instead of it being a accident which it was. They made my husband and I feel like criminals. Really not cool! Definitely will not be back. Arrogant managers on a power trip is never a good combo. He had to tell 5 employees what happened too. Only one was nice. read more

What this place is doing to the environment around them is terrible. Every week we have to pull trash out of the river above and down steam from the camp. The river is overpopulated and apparently they can't keep up with the trash. Now everyone else is having to do it. The local fisherman can't fish anymore due to the amount of people. Local swimming holes are now gone. They play loud music until 4am and no one that lives near it can sleep at night. It's just people from other places that don't care about what once was a unique place in Texas. read more

It's a great day trip if you live nearby and you get a chance to float in the river, go kayaking, and relax in a fabulous cabana, either a 1 story or 2 story!! My family had the privilege of staying in a 2 story cabana and it was SOO bougie I'd suggest to book weeks in advance because spots fill up fast!! There is a barbecue grill provided (bring something to clean it with), picnic tables, hammocks, couches, chairs, running water, electrical outlets, ceiling fans and if you're staying in a 2 story cabana, you have a bar upstairs with a dining table and stools, not to mention a beautiful view of the camp. read more

We rented a cabana while my in-laws were in town and we had an alright time, the water was nice and everything was well maintained and pretty.. although I will say the daytime cabana was a bit pricy, and we were told on top of that it was $30 to rent a tube and 60$ to buy one... when the add states free with purchase of a cabana (we went on a Monday) also there was a group of people next to us cussing loudly and smoking weed right next to us, which I'd totally be fine with if we didn't have a baby and a toddler with us.. overall a good place but we were hoping for more of a family friendly place to hangout and visit with our in-laws. read more

This was a spectacular spot for a summer day- even during the pandemic! We didn't come close to other people outside of our small group of four, the cabana was great and the river was a perfect spot to cool down. We were surprised how deep it got across the way and how quickly the water moved! We were able to set up a projector screen at our cabana and enjoyed a movie in our own space. Even though there was no stage event due to the Coronavirus, we were treated to a surprise fireworks display from a property close by. We didn't feel hovered over, but there were staff if we had any questions. The luxury glamping cabana was a beautiful thing! Loved most of your getaway. The water was great. The cabana has no view but that's fine. However, while staying in the cabin there is a $49 cleaning fee. On too do this there is a sign that says to wash your dishes or be fined $75. Why am I paying for cleaning to then also clean. On top of this, our dishes were dirty. They did not at least inspect to see that the previous visitors properly washed their dishes. read more
