Tubing at its finest. There is a selection of choices for tubing. You can get the door-to-door service, which I highly recommend. A small school bus will pick you up, and drop you off. We had a group of 10, and they supplied us with everything. Our driver and go to person was Lisette, and she was amazing. She was cool, and very informative. She even hooked us up with time. Being that I didn't know much about tubing, her advice was key! Besides that, there's not much to tubing, but this company gave us a memorable time. TIP: Definitely ask for her when you book. She is going to take care of you from start to finish.

Check in was smooth and they explained everything we needed to do. It was Memorial Day weekend so it kind of packed. The actual floating takes about 3 1/2 hours and there's some very shallow areas where you need to stand up because you can rub against the rock bottom. This was our first time tubing and we really enjoyed it! Definitely recommend lots of sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, and drinks!

If you're ever looking to float the river in San Marcos, Texas State Tubes is the company to choose. A few friends and I went this past weekend and had the absolute best time. We chose the ticket that includes bus transportation to and from downtown Austin so we didn't have to worry about driving and it made things so easy. The bus also stopped at a gas station on the way there so you can grab ice and drinks to stock the cooler for your float. As if that wasn't enough, our bus leader was knowledgeable and so hilarious. If you get Nicky Wayne as your guide, you're seriously in for a treat. The float last about three hours. I suggest bringing drinks, water, a speaker, lots of sunscreen, and dry bags if you don't want to leave your belongings with your guide. COVID Precautions: You're primarily outdoors aside from the bus so there really aren't a lot of precautions in place. If you're concerned, I would suggest waiting it out and going at a later date when things have gone back to normal.

Also, they never mentioned the $5 fee if we wanted to float again.

Due to COVID-19 they have enforced reasonable rules, 1. on the bus you have to sit 2 rows in-between each other, 2. groups take off into the river 5-10 minutes apart. Not hard to follow, right? Well when my friend and i were waiting on the bus group of 10 drunk people got on and sat right behind us. I politely asked if they could move back (as per the rules implicated) they proceeded to talk say things like "we don't want to sit next to you bitches anyways, get these skanks off the bus"........ So now I'm getting angry and asking them what their problem is and they all drunkly yell back talking nonsense yelling "shut up millennial" (Im in my 30s) and so on and so forth. Then one women said to stand up and as i did and asked her if she wanted to do anything she yelled "SIT DOWN YOU NIGGER" I was in shock. the fact that she said it, her friends had no problem with it, and that the bus driver was not telling them anything about not sitting in the proper rows and yelling racial slurs. so after we float its great, just what the Dr. ordered after being quarantined for 3 months. we get out, eat a smack and proceed to float again (like the racist group got to) and the stopped us telling us they changed the rules in the middle of the day to not allow people to go twice. now mind you WE PAID just as much as anyone else that went more than once. So this is why i will never ever go back to this establishment.

Family trip!

Ask the Community - Texas State Tubes

Is the water shallow/ safe for someone who can't swim? Any drop offs?

Yes, the water is shallow, did not hit any deep points. Some parts have rocks or branches in the way. There are points you can stop, and hang out by the water to eat or chill.

I know they dont sell ice, so for a private tour how do I get the ice to put in the coolers That we dont get until we arrive? Driver shows up with coolers?

On our trip we took the 'shuttle' (school bus) from down down Austin to the river. The driver/guide stopped at a gas station and the entire group got off to get alcohol + ice and then loaded the coolers there.

So Richard only parking and we are pretty much tubing for free with our own tube or is there still a fee for each & every person ? Thanks again for your time.

There’s always a per person fee. There is almost no public property on our stretch of river. If you want to float for free the best way to do it is in San Marcos from Sewell Park to JJ Stokes or Rio Vista.

How much is it if we bring our own tubes?

$12 for parking, shuttle ride access to entrance and exit and air for your tubes.

Are ESA dogs allowed?

Yes people bring their pets all the time and they give them a tube as well

What all is included when you do a public tube trip? Does the bus stop at a place to allow us to purchase drinks?

It includes to and from Austin, tubes, cooler tubes and coolers. Yes, we make a stop on the way down so y’all can purchase drinks snacks and ice.

What Time Do Ya'll Open &Close?

They open at 10AM and close at 4PM

Do we have to bring our own ice if we're using a TST ice chest w/ tube?

Yes, we don’t sell ice.

Can you bring your own tube? if so, should it already be aired up or is their air onsite? also, I cant swim, so should I bring a life vest or do they rent them onsite?

Yes, you can bring your own tube. Yes, we have life jackets available as well.

We are familiar with the San Marcos river which does get a little busy since the Guadalupe River is so low.

(This review would be a five star if it weren't for the folks at the register and the air fill up…read morestation) If you've only got a couple of hours but still want that "float the river" magic, Lion's Club in San Marcos is the spot. It's also perfect for first-timers, nervous swimmers, or anyone who likes their adventure with a side of peace of mind. The river is gorgeous, the wildlife is out for a cameo, and the float itself is just long enough to refresh your soul and restore your peace without taking your whole day. A few highlights: The bathrooms? Usually clean for public restrooms. Picnic benches so you can munch after your float - and I highly suggest bringing a picnic and lots of water - remember to also hydrate on the river! STAY HYDRATED. You can swim at the put-in area and at the end of the float. And the waterfall at the end? Don't panic -- it sounds scarier than it is, but trust me, it's the best part. Pure fun! Now, the people at the register... well, let's just say they're not exactly winning "hospitality team of the year." They don't always explain things, like the fact that the price you pay to float (with or without your own tube) does NOT cover the shuttle. That's kind of important information, folks. The shuttle fee actually covers rides all day long (huge win -- but only if you know to ask). Also if you're paying for and blowing up six tubes, then hand them a tiny cooler float? Yep, they'll want to charge you again. Come on, folks, throw a gal a bone (or a blast of air). I'd love to see a couple of actual adults helping at the desk to smooth things out -- because the float is absolutely worth it, and the experience deserves a front desk that matches the fun of the river. Bottom line: go float, enjoy the scenery, take the shuttle (seriously, don't forget to ask), and ride that waterfall with a big goofy grin. It's San Marcos at its best!

Quick access to the river, many options of tubes and accessories as you may forget a few things…read morewhen making the trek out this way. Staff was nice and friendly to me and the family. Definitely a spot to use from time to time during these hot summers!
