First float of the season completed with tubes from here! Floating down the San Marcos river is a staple austin activity in the summer and if you're looking to try it or try a new place to rent your tube from, check this place out. We reserved our tubes online and got a drink cooler float as well, showed some ID when we arrived to collect our tubes and walk down to the entrance -- right where you pick up the tubes from! Then enjoyed a leisurely float in their comfy tubes and exited the river to hop on a shuttle back to our car. Smooth, easy, fun experience I'd do all over again! A lot of places have you shuttle to the entrance of the river and then you exit where your car is (since it's not a loop) but we found it easier to shuttle back from the river instead of to it -- less stuff to carry with you after the float cause the drinks and food have been consumed. And you have some time to dry off on the shuttle before getting to your car which is nice. Would go here again next time I'm in the mood to float! read more

A great spot to float the river. My bf and I just went last Monday & thought it was going to be cold but it wasn't. It was 80 degrees out so the water felt refreshing. The workers there were really nice, relaxed and very informative. My bf & I didn't have tubes so it was $25 each plus we got a cooler float & that was $10. So we spent about $61 (I think they have a $1 service fee if you pay with card). I honestly had a blast & will be coming back within the next few weeks. Random but we saw SOO many turtles. River was fun! Good experience but the customer service we received was very rude and disrespectful. While they allowed people to walk by with coolers we got pulled aside and was checked by "management" and stated they do this with everyone but in reality they don't. Another issue we had was towards the end of the ride cherry on top loosing our car keys lol but the employee there was so rude and made us feel pressured to get the key smith to hurry. Which we understand it's closing time but the pressure was uncalled for after talking to him he allowed us to leave the vehicle there. I guess that was nice. Tubing at its finest. There is a selection of choices for tubing. You can get the door-to-door service, which I highly recommend. A small school bus will pick you up, and drop you off. We had a group of 10, and they supplied us with everything. Our driver and go to person was Lisette, and she was amazing. She was cool, and very informative. She even hooked us up with time. Being that I didn't know much about tubing, her advice was key! Besides that, there's not much to tubing, but this company gave us a memorable time. TIP: Definitely ask for her when you book. The actual floating takes about 3 1/2 hours and there's some very shallow areas where you need to stand up because you can rub against the rock bottom. If you're ever looking to float the river in San Marcos, Texas State Tubes is the company to choose. A few friends and I went this past weekend and had the absolute best time. We chose the ticket that includes bus transportation to and from downtown Austin so we didn't have to worry about driving and it made things so easy. The bus also stopped at a gas station on the way there so you can grab ice and drinks to stock the cooler for your float. As if that wasn't enough, our bus leader was knowledgeable and so hilarious. If you get Nicky Wayne as your guide, you're seriously in for a treat. The float last about three hours. I suggest bringing drinks, water, a speaker, lots of sunscreen, and dry bags if you don't want to leave your belongings with your guide. COVID Precautions: You're primarily outdoors aside from the bus so there really aren't a lot of precautions in place. If you're concerned, I would suggest waiting it out and going at a later date when things have gone back to normal. read more

Due to COVID-19 they have enforced reasonable rules, 1. on the bus you have to sit 2 rows in-between each other, 2. groups take off into the river 5-10 minutes apart. Not hard to follow, right? Well when my friend and i were waiting on the bus group of 10 drunk people got on and sat right behind us. I politely asked if they could move back (as per the rules implicated) they proceeded to talk say things like "we don't want to sit next to you bitches anyways, get these skanks off the bus"........ So now I'm getting angry and asking them what their problem is and they all drunkly yell back talking nonsense yelling "shut up millennial" (Im in my 30s) and so on and so forth. Then one women said to stand up and as i did and asked her if she wanted to do anything she yelled "SIT DOWN YOU NIGGER" I was in shock. the fact that she said it, her friends had no problem with it, and that the bus driver was not telling them anything about not sitting in the proper rows and yelling racial slurs. so after we float its great, just what the Dr. ordered after being quarantined for 3 months. we get out, eat a smack and proceed to float again (like the racist group got to) and the stopped us telling us they changed the rules in the middle of the day to not allow people to go twice. now mind you WE PAID just as much as anyone else that went more than once. So this is why i will never ever go back to this establishment. read more

First time ever going tubing and it was an amazing experience I can't wait to come back again

What an absolutely stunning float we had! The views are breathtaking, the water was so nice and such a chilly relief on a hot day. We arrived and the ladies at the front gate were nice, super informative and happy to help in any way they could. Parking is ample and there's some shady spots if you get there early enough - do so! You can either rent their floats, or bring your own. While the former is easier, the latter is best - because get a float with a headrest! You're welcome. They do have floats you can rent with bottoms that are great for coolers, but we brought our own for that, as well. After you hop in and the float begins, relax and enjoy the ride. There are a few rapids, but nothing too extreme. You can try to keep up with the current, or simply lay back and enjoy the ride, but be ready to go into some lily pads or a bank or two as you float along. There are spots along the way to stop and enjoy snacks and drinks, then continue on. Again, the views are great, so take in each moment. We went on a day that wasn't too busy and I definitely preferred it and was able to enjoy so much more without the river being packed. BUT - if you're looking for a great time, it's my understanding that the river is packed with great fun and great people on the weekends and holidays. Once you've reached the finish - anywhere from 3 1/2 hours or more, depending on the current and your stops along the way - there are fellas there to help you out of the water. Be ready to jump out and walk up the stairs at this point - either taking your float with you, or handing over their tube to them. If you did bring your own float, be sure to get up the stairs and out of the way to deflate on the area at the top of the first set of stairs. Once you've done what's needed there, you'll head on up. There's a food trailer there that we didn't try, but plan to another time. Passing the food trailer, you'll head on over to the line to grab a bus back to the parking lot where your car is. Our driver was super sweet and we really enjoyed every moment. It's a really great adventure and wonderful time. Grab a friend or two or ten and head on out to Texas State Tubes. My favorite entry point by far! Rent or bring your own tube, if you bring your own there is generators running with pumps to air them up, PARKING IS FREE!!! Semi monitored, never had an issue. $12 cooler tubes, $17 entry if you bring your own tube and $27 (I believe) if you rent one. They have a couple things there for sale but I don't render water proof bags or water shoes so don't forget yours! read more

Went to Texas State Tubes as part of a vacation in Texas. First off, this is the BEST RIVER I've floated on in years. The river is not too deep (many areas you can get out and stand up) and not too wide. There are some parts where the water is flowing fast and some slow parts where you can relax. Two reasons that Texas State Tubes did not get a five stars - (1) - They DO NOT HOLD YOUR KEYS! This is a huge hassle and I've honestly never seen this at a tubing location before. It definitely took away from the trip when one member was concerned about the keys getting wet. (2) The bus we took back had around 7-8 signs in it saying to tip your bus driver. I understand one sign but literally not the whole bus with signs is a bit much for me. If I were to tube again in the San Antonio area I would try finding a location that would hold my keys while tubing on the same river read more

A fun tubing endeavor, but not covid safe. The tubing itself was pretty fun, we floated for about 3.5 hours, and we got pretty drunk. The tide was low, so there were some unseemly scratches around our bodies by the end. Nothing out of the ordinary. The tubing itself is also distanced enough. The main problem was the shuttle ride from the end of tubing to the parking lot. It was packed super full. No one wore masks (which is hard because we're all emerging from their River), and we were not provided any masks. Furthermore, neither the driver nor the organizers wore masks. It was an antimasking extravaganza, and I wouldn't be surprised if I found out that tubing is a superspreader activity because of that. Yikes read more

We had an very enjoyable time using Texas State Tubes while visiting Austin. The tubing itself is only like $20, the bus out there is quite pricey. But we had 6 guys and we rented tubes and a cooler, brought our own ice and everything went super smoothly. The staff were very helpful in tying our tubes together and arranging everything we needed at the very start. Two bits of advice: 1) buy some water shoes and 2) don't pay all that money for their bus out to the river; carpool or something. Would definitely use Texas State Tubes again! read more

This place is a joy to tube at. Tube ranges from 2-4 hrs, depending how fast you move or how many times you stop to chug a beer. Very clean for the amount of college students that tube out there. Tubular!! Biggest shout out to Nicky Wayne for helping our group out and making sure we all had a good time! Pros: Our pick up location was convenient and the check in process was very painless. Nicky Wayne was very informative and straight up. He encouraged everyone to put on sunscreen because "the Texas sun IS trying to kill you." He also pointed out the local wildlife (so many turtles!) and really emphasized all of the steps in the tubing process. The river is super pretty! The overhang areas in the shade are just gorgeous. The water is super temperate and feels great in the hot hot sun. Cons: The Texas sun is trying to kill you! The transportation is on school buses so the AC situation is not great. Also the river is ridiculously crowded! (I will admit that I've been spoiled by the rivers of the Pacific North West and Colorado.) The crowds can make navigating some of the little rapids tough and def made exiting the river a bit of a shit show Overall a good time was had by our whole group! If the name doesn't give it away, I'll confirm it for you: Yup, college kids galore. Since my crew and the kiddos had the same goals (day drink and listen to loud music), I wasn't too annoyed by them. I definitely wouldn't recommend this for families, though. In fact, I don't recall seeing one child on the river. And with every side bank crowded with folks doing beer shotguns and chugging box wine, I don't think their presence was missed. It's been a few years since I tubed in these parts, and I don't remember it being so expensive. One tube is $18 + the cooler/tube cooler combo for $15. (not a must but I don't tube enough to have my own supplies) I could've sworn my last tubing trip was way cheaper than this. The set up isn't the most organized. But staff was extremely pleasant and didn't seem annoyed by the chaos. Saturday's are packed!! (Duh) I'll definitely be back! Hopefully the rocks won't beat me up this time. read more

It was my first time as New Texan, and I went with some seasoned tubers, but we all still have a lot to learn about tying the tubes, making sure the cooler doesn't flip over, and dressing appropriately for the rocks. Gave them one star because you can't do zero. Y'all have garbage people floating with your group. The whole ordeal with Don's and having a racial group use their services, well you have have EMPLOYEES that you should be ashamed of. We floated today, quickly into our float, my tube popped but we used one of our cooler tubes to make way. As we floated, the additional tube I used started to lose air. A little before the rapids at Pecan Park RV, a kind group let us borrow a tube they found down their float and was extra for them to not struggle through the rapids. Fast forward to a spot after the rapids where some people hang out and stop, a group of individuals that stated they to work for you all accused us of stealing it. After I explained how I obtained it since we all had store bought tubes and were with Don's, they continued to make racial comments and state they were going to pop our tubes with their knifes. They weight shamed, made financial comments ( since they assumed we "stole"their tube), made racial comments (indicating borders should be closed), and continued to comment amongst one another that they were going to pop out tubes. THE WORST experience we've ever had, we've floated for over 8 years and this is the first. Of they did lose their tube, that's HORRIBLE, I know, I've been there, but don't be quick to assuse it was someone that was as there when you noticed you were missing something and continue to harass them on their float. I would've given them the extra tube that was lended to me and I use the one that had lost air but manageable but after their ugliness, that was a no brainer that I would not show kindness.
