From the first warm "hello" at check-in to the ease of our departure, the experience felt like staying with good friends--who just happen to run an RV resort. Management That's Present and Personable What stood out immediately? Access to management. Whether face-to-face or via email, they were available and responsive. Emails with event updates and maintenance schedules kept us in the loop, which we appreciated--especially when planning cookouts or karaoke nights! Better yet, the staff weren't just employees--they were also guests, which made the whole vibe feel more down-to-earth and welcoming. They knew the area well (BBQ lovers: Lockhart is just 20 minutes away), and they were always happy to share tips. Amenities: Thoughtfully Designed and Genuinely Fun The resort checks the boxes and then some. Full hookups, well-maintained restrooms with showers, a large pool and an even larger hot tub (we once fit 12 people with room to spare!), and a killer community space next to the pool that played host to potlucks and karaoke nights. There's a massive double fireplace in that communal space, ideal for gatherings when the temps drop. And behind the building? A bonfire area and smaller fire pits surrounded by comfy seating. Bonus: free firewood during our stay! The gym is small (fits two people max) but clean and efficient with a weight machine, treadmill, and bike. There's also a super-clean laundry room with big washers and dryers that made doing laundry less of a chore. Other nice touches: a covered stage (no live shows during our stay, but it's clearly ready for action), and a dog area that was tidy and respected by both staff and fellow guests. Only things we missed? An ice machine and propane refill station--but both were a short drive away. Grounds & Sites: Clean, Sleek, and Spacious This place is sharp. Roads and sites were freshly paved, level, and easy to navigate. The grounds were neatly mowed and edged, and each RV site was thoughtfully laid out with plenty of room to back in--or pull through if you preferred. Being a newer resort, there's not much shade yet. There are young trees that'll eventually grow up, but for now, bring your own coverage if you're sun-sensitive. One notable gripe (shared by multiple guests): the bright parking-lot-style lights scattered throughout the resort. While we get the need for security, they were way too intense. Our humble suggestion? Dimmers, warmer bulbs, or better yet--low ground lighting. Let guests light their own areas for comfort and better stargazing. Location: Central and Convenient Located right off Texas Highway 21, you're close to everything without feeling crowded. Traffic wasn't bad, though you might hear a few semis braking at the nearby stoplight--nothing major. In 20-25 minutes, you can reach Kyle, Lockhart, or San Marcos, and those drives are easy and scenic. Kyle has all the basics (Walmart, H-E-B, Lowe's, etc.). Lockhart is BBQ heaven, and San Marcos is packed with chill spots and river fun. That spring-fed river runs 72° year-round--perfect for floating or paddleboarding. If you're heading into Austin, budget 45+ minutes depending on I-35 traffic. A Place to Party or Chill--Your Pick The overall vibe of The Old El Camino? A sweet mix of family-friendly and fun-loving. Whether you want to keep it quiet, socialize, or sing your heart out, it works. We made new friends quickly--thanks to the welcoming staff and well-planned community events. As for pricing, it felt more than fair. There's a refundable deposit and electric usage on top, but even with our AC running constantly, the bill wasn't shocking. Final Thoughts: We'll Be Back We felt safe, seen, and satisfied. Cleanliness was top-notch, staff were friendly and invested, and the sense of community was refreshing. We also appreciated how convenient the location was--close enough to shops in case we needed to grab anything we forgot. A very special shoutout to the Recreation & Activities Supervisor, Kim Wertens! She was amazing--so patient, resourceful, and truly went above and beyond to accommodate our group of 90 people. She worked with our preplanned schedule and helped keep all the kids entertained, which made a huge difference for everyone. We booked a treehouse cabin and immediately noticed standing water around the cabin, including the fire pit. The area was clearly saturated, unlike neighboring cabins, which suggests a water leak nearby. The cabin itself was as expected, though the top bunk wasn't made. The TV wasn't connected to the internet or streaming apps, and the guest Wi-Fi signal was poor. We tried troubleshooting ourselves and called for support, but no one came until much later, and even then, it wasn't fully fixed. Accessing streaming services required using a personal account, which shouldn't have been necessary. Food and beverage were another disappointment. The filling station ran out of pizza and many other products, including bottled water. The staff said they might restock, but several guests left in frustration. When we ordered, mozzarella sticks arrived with no sauce, and soda refills weren't available, even though these are basic amenities. Coffee stands were inconsistently managed--cups weren't provided for free coffee unless you bought a souvenir cup, and then the free coffee suddenly wasn't free at all. Even higher-up food stands were closed during the day, limiting convenient options. The pool and water slides were closed due to a heater issue, which was frustrating since we planned to use them. We did make the most of the other attractions, including the zipline, which was exhilarating, though my leg strap came undone halfway down--over 100 feet off the ground. The staff at the bottom checked in on me several times, which was appreciated, but it was still a scary moment. We tried multiple times to get the TV issue addressed. Eventually, a tech came by, but the problem remained. The network setup seemed unnecessarily complicated, with one TV hardwired and still not functioning properly. We were offered a discount or a new cabin for the inconvenience, and we moved for the evening to have our own bathroom, but the experience felt like a series of small failures stacked together. Overall, it was extremely frustrating dealing with product shortages, inconsistent service, and amenities not functioning during peak spring break. Standing water, incomplete cabin preparation, unreliable Wi-Fi and TV, food shortages, and closed pools made the experience more stressful than relaxing. We might return in the future, but it's not a high priority compared to local alternatives that offer reliable service and amenities. Also, $10 for a 42-second ride clip seems excessive and felt like a cash grab.

Nothing on the other side except trees and cliffs so it's a really great "view" of nature and not another park or houses on the other side. Very friendly family at the front who got us set up with the day pass. Will definitely be back and recommend this spot for a good day swim (or overnight camping too) if you don't mind paying! But - there's only so many spots so paying is worth having more space and more river to yourself in my opinion. Only downside is not pets are allowed! But that is understandable.

We mainly came for the splash pad. They told us the indoor and out-pool is heated. The splash pad and the water playground was not and still really cold (early may). Water play ground was slightly warmer than splash pad but still pretty cold. My 2 yoa was shivering so we mainly stayed in the heated pool. My older daughter braved the cold and played in the water playground and loved the water slides. We would consider coming back and renting a cabin.

They put me in an RV with 80% full propane tanks, no working fridge the whole 6 weeks and never fixed anything. Also late and short paid me for my "management training" there. 3. There are 4 gold colored cows that live better than Trump there. they have 40ish acres of pasture, a 24 7 flow through water trough. One "staff" member just "keeps the cows" leaves his brand new artic cat out in the rain etc. The mangager conned me out of 65 dollars but I paid her based on her word. They are just liars on a power trip there. DO NOT patronize this place with their overpriced sites. And definitley do not send any Godly good friends or family of yours there to "work" for anyting other than free rent. Luckily I was able to love the meanies anyway.
