We were expecting more of a farm stand given the rurality of that Sonoma and it was more of a local grocery store. Some of the items are not local. The only items that seem local are the walnuts. Some of the fruit are shipped from Chile. We didn't make any purchases but it is nice to look around for a quick reprieve while out exploring and supporting local vendors in Napa/Sonoma and otherwise. The attendant was busy and didn't really acknowledge our presence.

I drive by this place all the time on my way home from work, and one day I decided to stop and check them out. I was not disappointed. There is plenty of parking. There is also a lot of fruits, vegetables, refrigerated items, pasta, jams, chocolate, and other snacks to explore. Employees are friendly. Customers some and go so it's not packed. It's very spacious. I have been here a few times now and I always enjoy it. I have purchased tangerines, figs, grapes, pumpkins and chocolate covered raisins. It's a very nice place to stop and shop.

What's not to love about this little produce stand? They carry much more than produce, and Jawad (sp) aka Joe, was so kind and helpful. I picked up better fruit here than I did at the Novato Farmers Market just two days before. It's very juicy, sweet and frankly, priced right!! Plus, they carry Carrs Ginger and Lemon cookies which are hard for me to find near home.

I love this farmstand. I have been going to this farm stand for over 40 years. It's probably pass-through the hands of different owners since I first started going there but they always have very good produce, mostly conventionally grown, but they have a wide array of local products and imported things as well. On this particular visit a man and his junior high school son were running the store. The man was friendly and recommended that all the local foods, we are especially good. He particularly recommended the local honey. I brought home some gorgeous pomegranates, some Italian wafer cookies that are vegan by accident, and a few other things like onions that I need at home on this particular trip. Most of the produce is very seasonal and I think most of it comes from California and Mexico. There were chest that's from Italy and very little remainder of the 25 pound bag that was on display!

The fruit selection is great and there are tables with prepackaged grains and candies. Only thing is you have to pay cash if is below $5 to avoid an additional charge/card.

    Rotten watermelon we just purchased.

We drove here all the way from the other side of town to get some fresh watermelon as that's one of the items they have advertised on their signage out side. Once we got home and cut into the watermelon it was completely rotten. This place gets two stars because of the friendly staff that works there.

Sonoma Valley Fruit Basket is, as its name implies, a giant fruit stand (store* really) on the way to...you guessed it...Sonoma! I was in the car with other fruit and veggie lovers, so we pulled a U-ey when we drove past and had to go back! They have a huge selection, but the produce didn't seem any different from what you find at a regular supermarket. Prices were above average. If the quality had been, too, we would have walked out with much more.

We couldn't resist stopping by this place on our way home. It's not at all what I expected, which was a modest little fruit stand full of organic fruits and maybe a couple of vegetables. Umm. Not that. It's a massive grocery store, brimming with more than you ever think you need, and then some. Up front it has loads and loads of fruits of every conceivable type--many in season and all those that are not as well. In the back of the shop, are produce and greens. There are aisles of all sorts of grains, candies, vinegars, sauces. Their offerings go on and on and on. It's an open-air market, but with covered awnings. Btw., nothing is organic :-(! Because of this, I was not motivated to buy as much as I originally had planned, but still because we had stopped--and the prices just could not be beat--we did buy peaches, nectarines, honeydew melon; green and black figs; cantaloupe. I did not have much hope for any of it tasting all that great (because of the lack of organicity :-), but after I got home, oddly the nectarines had already become ripe--whaaat?? So I tried one, and then, two, and then three-damn of man, were they ever fantastic: juicy but not mushy, sweet but not cloyingly, and super fresh. A-MA-zing! I should've bought more. And next time we're in the area, I will. Everyone was super friendly and efficient, boxed everything up for us in a literal cardboard box to make stuff easier to carry and transport in our car. I took plenty of photos to give you an idea of the massive scale of this place.

As I was heading back to the square (where there is an abundance of restaurants), I didn't want the busyness of the scene; thankfully, I got on Instagram, typed "good eats in Sonoma", and BAM! Salumeria Ovello popped up on my feed, and thank goodness it did! An easy 4-minute walk from Vallejo House, Salumeria Ovello is owned by Andrea, who is a Michelin-star chef from the area of Piedmont, Italy. Having been to Italy twice this past year alone, I remember quite well the quality and taste of the classed Italian Sandwiches. The worker who served at the counter was very helpful, and within the restaurant --- there are just a few seats. I'd say, 3 tables with two seats at each table. For my food, I decided to order the Massimo --- which is on "sliced Focaccia, and has sun dried tomatoes, stracciatella di burrata, prosciutto cotto, basil pesto and crumbled taralli (crackers)". Each sandwich is made fresh-to-order, and you can taste the quality. Each ingredient worked together in harmony, and to satisfy the americani in me, I definitely enjoyed the taralli in the sandwich --- reminded me of putting chips in my sandwiches in school. While I waited, Andrea also brought out some slices of salami for me to try --- free of charge, which was very kind of him to do. All in all, if you want to get away from the busyness of the Mission Square, take a 4-minute walk to Salumeria Ovello, and you'll find a little piece of Italy in Sonoma! Ciao tutti!

Good thing Sonoma Market is known for their sandwiches and deli and fresh prepared meals. You'll spend a little more, but the shopping experience is more curated and atmospheric, and the products speak for themselves. I stopped in recently while on a short trip to Sonoma, specifically for salsa, some kind of dip or spread for crackers, and a cheese or two. I spent awhile browsing because that's the best part, and left with exactly what I needed (proud and amazed I stuck to my budget haha). I bought a fantastic bleu cheese, brie, a cantina style salsa, and this whipped, layered, tomato-basil dip made of ground almonds, avocado, sour cream, tomatoes, and herbs. Kind of a lot going on, but it was so good. It's always fun to see what you'll find here. Like a locally made gluten free apple pie, the perfect bouquet of flowers, or a freshly baked loaf of sourdough.

Great price for five German bratwursts (1.5 lbs), 3 oz mustard, and two 16 oz cans of Sonoma Springs Brewing Company beer. Yes! The brats are organic and made of pork, spices, and fresh garlic. I could smell the spices and garlic as I pulled the brats out of the bag. That's the smell of fresh homemade goodness. I grilled a couple in a skillet. They were delicious. The flavors were spot on! Fabulous! The mustard came in a shallow tin with a twist off lid. It was tasty as well. But be careful when twisting the tin open, the mustard kinda ran away and spilled out from me when I took off the lid. The kit was delivered with blue ice that kept everything cool.
