Despite budget cuts that have impacted the entire WCCUSD district, Stewart's leadership has remained communicative and committed to building back and strengthening school culture. We made the decision to send our kids to Stewart because of the Dual Language Immersion program, and have not been disappointed- they both can read in Spanish and English and have been exposed to many cultural experiences that they would not otherwise have been.

He is excelling well above grade level and speaks, reads and write in both Spanish and English even though we are not a Spanish speaking household. My daughter also goes to Stewart and had the same teachers as he did. She is in 3rd grade with a truly great teacher, Maestra Reyes, and also excelling. The culture at the school is what drew us there. It's very inclusive and friendly. The PTA and admin staff hold events for the community to come together including academic nights, community potlucks and movie nights. Since this is a TK-8 school the students get to stay on the same campus making the transition to middle school a breeze. Stewart is a true gem in Pinole!

Two kids to one instructor seems fair and manageable but more than that doesn't seem effective. I hope Greta will manage the ratio of kids/instructors available because I'm growing more concerned about it. Tuition isn't cheap, especially in this climate, so I'd like to know that I'm paying for more than just those booklets. As I stated earlier, my son seems to be really enjoying it so I will continue to monitor progress and hope to give this place 5 stars after we've spent more time here. Academically, he is very comfortable with math problems now, and loves to read on his own. With Kumon work, he's math and reading levels are above other classmates'. In terms of self discipline, he is used to doing the homework everyday on his own and tries his best to avoid any unintentional mistake. I am a proud mom! The Kumon el cerrito and Pinole instructor Greta has been so patient and kind to all the children and the parents. She knows everyone's name and level, and is very involved in the progress of every student. Hats off! and what a kindhearted person to be around. To those who are still thinking about joining, I would say, Kumon (like any other program) is not a promise to the success. However it is a great opportunity for the kids to create the healthy habit of studying and to boost their self esteem, and a reliable way for the parents to help our kids to make the most of their potentials. She attends part time now, but when she started Kindergarten she was ahead of most of her classmates. The field trips are always educational and fun. When they have snack time and lunch time is very organized and the children are well mannered. During regular school breaks, my child is able to go to A Little World Montessori, and I do not need to look for a babysitter or miss a day of work. My daughter loves A Little World Montessori. The classes are small, usually between 10 - 14 students, which allows plenty of attention for each child. It also gives the teachers ample time to monitor behavior which I feel is lacking in the public schools. The kids are taught from an early age to respect each other and the environment around them. I believe the school is above the curve in most subjects. The kids are fluid typers by the end of third grade. Spanish is taught as a foreign language from an early age. The principals are focusing a lot of effort introducing technology into the classroom as well. The school is very affordable relative to other private K-8 schools in the area. They also offer a sibling discount. The tuition covers everything. No fund raisers, door-to-door sales, or mandatory volunteer time. The school is run extremely effciently while maintaining a caring and comfortable environment.
