I always stop into St Dizier Design store when I'm in Healdsburg. There are pretty tabletop items…read moreand also furnishings to browse. What's most valuable is the opportunity to get inspired by a "look" which you may want to use in your home. I enjoy the decorative objects and looking inside the cabinets where might be jewelry or watches. If you happen to be Healdsburg, stop by St Dizier and pick up a gift either for someone else or for you.

When it comes to customers you never know who's who... a lot of the wealthy are now driving a Prius…read moreand wearing flip flops with cargo shorts - hipsters are probably low income poseurs (or not) - and the average Joe in jeans may be stretching his budget, just got a fat raise, or sitting on an inheritance... you can't tell anymore. My suggestion would be treat each customer with, at the minimum, a little respect and thankfulness that they came into your establishment. My wife and I are finishing up a complete remodel (to the studs) of a second home in Occidental (and are buying another property there as well). We need to furnish the entire house from scratch and are looking for higher-end or unique furniture. When we walked into Saint Dizier on 3/31/16 (my wife was in her business clothes and I was in jeans and a collared shirt) we were not greeted by the two women working, in fact we were completely ignored, then one of them walked past us brusquely with a broom and said "I hate when it rains and all the peddles from the trees get tracked into the store". Uh, then don't open the store when it rains and stay home. We were specifically looking at a suede / leather couch and I actually had a couple of questions (including the availability of complementing pieces) but these two women could not have cared less. I don't have time or patience for bad service and as we walked out of the store there was not even a "thank you, come again or a goodbye". I am going to drop $4-5K on a couch (not including the rest of living room) and outfit 3 bedrooms, a kitchen, dining room, and a couple of bathrooms. I guess they don't need the business, which is good because they won't be getting mine. Aloof and pretentious service went out of style decades ago... SDH bills itself as a showroom with design "experts" whose purpose is to collaborate with clients - unfortunately they are caught up in their own hype and self-importance... and subsequently just had a big project walk out the door.

Oh where to begin! When I give someone a budget I expect they will honor it. Well, not in this…read morecase. After we spent thousands of dollars on design fees, the quote for the furniture and rugs exceeded our budget by 33%. When questioned, Jim replied... "Oh, the budget for decorating never includes design fees, tax, or delivery". Wow, that would have been nice to know upfront. In all my business dealings a budget is a budget. Our issues started early and continued almost 18 months Jim came up with 5 designs for our great room. Of course, we paid for this in design time. We spent hours going thru magazines to show Jim what our taste in decorating was. We wanted "comfortable and classy", what he came back with looked nothing like what we had asked for. Clearly, he didn't listen but was happy to charge us for more time spent on design. The furniture he quoted was overpriced even with the "designer discount" as I found it less expensive online. When we informed Jim that we would order some furniture ourselves he told us he strongly advised against it stating the problems that can arise that often need attorneys to get involved. Well, the opposite happened, our online orders were handled very well with strong communication and delivery included in our pricing. In addition, when the first set of chairs, ordered thru Ireko, arrived they were damaged, then again 5 months later when the "repaired" chairs were received, once again they were damaged in different places. So much for careful inspection before we came to pick them up...oh, I forgot, the freight charged is to a storage facility, not to your home. That is an extra delivery charge. I have been in business for 48 years and have never felt such abuse and condescension.

This is not Pedersons or one of those nasty furniture stores off Piner Road. Ireko brings the goods -- well made furniture and accessories, with lots of style and design influence.
