We were looking for good sushi in the area and saw this spot had good ratings and has been family owned for over 20+ years. They have a decent number of vegetarian rolls which is nice to see! We got the mango avocado roll (delicious), miso soup (great flavor), scallion pancake (can skip, was too oily and not as much scallion), tempura appetizer (too oily, will skip next time) and the sashimi deluxe. Been to Sono a few times and loved the food every timez the servers are always on point and always keep your water and tea full. The restaurant is a decent size and has plenty of seats. They were packed for dinner on both of our visits so we were happy to see people attracted to the restaurant. We would recommend getting the boat if you have a larger group and everyone wants sushi. Its got plenty variety and is very shareable. Our go-to app is the Zaru cold soba noodles and assorted tempura. This has become one od our favorite sushi spots in the area! read more

Great sushi spot in Middletown! Everything was delicious and fish was very fresh. I ordered the chirashi bowl and i loved the variety of cuts that it came with. The zaru soba was also great! I was surprise with how much it came with for the price. Service was pretty quick even on a busy saturday. Theres a good amount of seating inside but I noticed they do a lot of takeout as well. I've been going to Sonos sushi for over 25 years! This is my second time this week. Every sushi dish is incredible. Every sushi roll is a work of art. I've never been let down by the taste and quality of each master dish. Every role is perfectly put together. You get your moneys worth here. I sat next to the register and watched as the staff greeted its guests with their first names. In my experience, most of the people eating here today have been here many times before. The unagi donburi was fantastic. I highly recommend trying it here. The beef teriyaki could've used more seasoning; this is not the place for hibachi or teriyaki. Next time, we'll go for the sushi since that seems to be the highlight. read more

A friend and I came here for a pre-concert meal looking for a place in close proximity to the PNC Arts center. The sushi was fresh and creative. Service was prompt and friendly. They don't have too many tables but they do take reservations. They do a very brisk take out business. Had their Sushi Lunch Special with colleagues yesterday. Overall was OK. May be it had to do with my mood, but nothing stood out - price, decor, ambiance, service, food. Nothing to complain about either except may be the service - the waitress never once refilled my tea cup or ask me how was everything. For that I round down my 3.5 star rating to 3. The $12 Sushi Lunch Special came with one 6 piece tuna avocado roll, one 6 piece cucumber avocado roll, and 4 pieces of sushi (1 tuna, 1 salmon, and 2 halibut/white fish) -- and of course the standard salad with ginger dressing and a bowl of miso soup. The miso soup was hot with plenty of tofu, but the ginger dressing was rather salty. They gave a good amount of wasabi That's rather unusual because I normally have to ask for extra wasabi in any Japanese restaurant. Came here based on a recommendation from a colleague. Our meals were ok. Hubby had yakisoba which was ok-noodles seemed more like thin ramen and needed a flavor boost. Portion was very generous. Edamame needed salt and gyoza was frozen not homemade but kudos to waitress for being honest when we asked. But-they were not as amazing as she claimed. I had chirashi which I get at every Japanese restaurant to test quality. Portion was small and sashimi pieces were tiny compared to what we get in Hoboken for the same price. Service was excellent-friendly and attentive. Green tea is complementary but was quite weak. There seemed to be plenty of regular customers-staff seemed to know everyone's name. read more

As far as NJ sushi joints go, this place is pretty good! I've come here a bunch of times and the sushi is pretty fresh. The sushi deluxe is good in that they actually give you sushi you care to eat, like fluke and salmon roe, instead of egg, and white fish. The roll that comes with it is a tuna roll rather that a California roll. The rolls are delicious and creative. Only negative is that the rice can be less stiff. I can't comment on the cooked food, but the staff is friendly. Decor is typical Japanese decor. Restaurant is a little dated. Definitely come here for sushi! Nothing fancy, but good! read more

The experience was probably a bit less than 4 stars, but I have to play with what I have from Yelp. We visited restaurant for lunch. We ordered spicy crab salad for appetizer - the salad was pretty much not spicy at all, and it was made out of the crab meat imitation - for $9, not necessarily a good dish. Sushi/sashimi combination and Chirashi combination were both good and fresh. M-16 roll was not all that impressive, tempura rolls generally are bigger in size than the one we got, and have a bot more crunch. Also it had too much mayo on top. Overall, not a bad place for lunch, but you should manage your expectations. read more

We came around 6pm, and by the time we were leaving (around 7pm), it was packed! People were waiting in the doorway. We both started with soup. I had the dumpling soup --if you like scallions and dumplings this is the soup for you! Mine came with 4 tasty dumplings. My husband and I split three rolls, spicy tuna, crunchy crab, and an eel roll. All were delicious and affordable. The service was great as well. read more

I so wanted to like Sono Sushi that it was a great disappointment to discover that their offerings, picked up on March 28th, were so poorly executed. --Yose Nabe broth was too strongly fishy in smell (I adore fish broths but this one was suspiciously smelly). There was scant amount of seafood and fish (3 shrimp, 3 small scallops, 1 fake crab piece, pieces of bony white fish) and vegetables ( a few snow peas thrown in for good measure) in two quarts of liquid. This dish required me to doctor it with Japanese broths and condiments I have at home to make it edible. --Kyo-Age. The outside was light golden (good sign) but not crisped enough and the inside, which is supposed to have a creamy texture as the tofu cooks, was too firm. --Gyozas. When ordered, I was not given choice of steamed or fried as the order taker seemed in a hurry. They came unevenly fried, accompanied by uninspired sauce Maybe it was a Sunday night off-night for the chef. Maybe their sushi is better. WOULD NOT ORDER any of the dishes listed above. read more

I've been going to this place for well over a decade. Ive never had one bad experience. The food is high quality and all of the fish are 100% fresh. Service is great and food arrives at table in a timely fashion. It's BYOB and a great place to go to any night of the week. For my top three food recommendations, I highly recommend the Incredible roll, White swan roll, and any of the Udon noodle dishes.
