I met some friends for after-work drinks at Sonny's a couple weeks ago and it was a good experience. My friends got there early enough to grab one of the couches and I'm glad they did. It was pretty comfy and in a perfect spot to feel the breeze as it was hot that day. You have to go to the front counter to place a drink order and if it's a cocktail, you have to wait a bit for it. Stopped by here on a Thursday evening. We had not been planning to come here but we had eaten at a nearby restaurant and saw a DJ setting up on the green space here. Sonny's is exactly what the Askarben area needed. There are always new events and a large variety of seating areas. The space is very "vibey" and it feels fun and relaxing to be there. The drinks at Sonny's were delicious. They are a little pricey, but I feel like you're paying for the experience. The only reason I didn't rate this 5 stars is due to the service. At any given point there were 3-5 people behind the bar having a conversation, and taking drink orders was clearly the second priority. This happened every time we ordered a drink, to the point where it felt awkward standing there interrupting their conversation. Pets are allowed in all areas except the turf grass. There is also a large dog park right next to the bar area. This is also right next to the Inner Rail food hall, which has many food options. These are attached to a grassy area with some lawn games. Overall just a fun environment. There is a small bar that serves some cocktails along with high noons and beers. 5 star on the flowers and patio design. Seating is somewhat awkward with the sectional sofas that are made for very tall people. And the stools along the wood planters are so low (and uncomfortable) that one's chin is nearly resting on the wood. Service recommendation; train your bar people on how to do hospitality. And in my mind, the area which needs the most improvement is the music that is played. Sonny's allows you to stay in the area to get alcoholic beverages or you would be forced to walk over to the Inner Rail bar to retrieve your drinks. It's a clean area, allows certain outdoor games to be played or socialize with others at this site. Sonny's has figured out a perfect method of having food with drinks and no kitchen. It's a perfect place for social distancing and enjoying being outside. I was there for a Yelp event with a somewhat grumpy companion so I didn't stay long enough to try more than one drink. Plus the heat was a bit too much for me. The outdoor space is very inviting with cushioned seats, nicely spaced table, umbrellas, and small gravel underfoot. The Froze was a deliciously refreshing mango frozen drink. It was so good, I could have had several except for a warning about the alcohol content. We also got a small charcuterie box with crackers, cheese, grapes, ham and some kind of pepper , which I think came from Culprits. Not my favorite kind of thing, but charcuterie fans will probably like it. It was quite small so I assume if you order off the menu, you get a bigger portion. If you want to eat a meal, you can scan the QR code on the table and order food to pickup from one of the food purveyors at The Inner Rail. There was going to be live music and dancing, but the heat put the kibosh on that for us. It seems that they have live music quite often so we'll have to check it out when it's cooler. read more

This place is so cool! Love that it's in the middle of a concrete jungle but yet has the feel of a park. Nice to see all the heaters by the tables will have to try that on a chilly night! Also fun that they offer s'mores kits that you can roast over a fire. Although it is a gas fire just steps away are a couple of real fire pits that they keep stoked with real firewood! Not a whole lot of choices for cocktails but they are fairly new so perhaps this will change down the road. They do offer some charcuterie you can pick from a fridge however it's not put together so you have to buy everything separate such as cheese, meat etc. They do have a popcorn machine which is a nice touch! Once again super nice folks running this place wishing them the best and cannot wait to return. I LOVE your frosé. The strawberry one is the perfect summer beverage to enjoy while dog watching or enjoying the greenhouse. Not many beverages are refreshing out there but that one is! It's right next to Inner Rail Food Hall so you have access to a variety of dishes while also dining outside and enjoying the vibe. There are patio style tables with umbrellas, a greenhouse with seating if you prefer. There is a section of faux grass where children were playing which I thought was sweet. There is a stage for live music, I am unsure of their schedule but they do have a website if you want to explore that. Plenty of photo opportunities but unfortunately I have none to post because they all have me in it. Please give this place a try if you're in the area. It was nice to be able to pick out the items you want for the board and it ended up about the same price as other establishments.
