Was on a road trip in Lexington, KY and stopped at Sonny's BBQ for lunch. Sonny's BBQ is known for Southern-style BBQ with signature slow-smoked in house using oak wood. We arrived right at opening time and were greeted and seated promptly. They have an app and also a reward program where you can get an offer for $5 off an entree. We ordered the choose 4 meats plate where you can choose from a selection of meats. We chose *Beef brisket, - Certified Angus Beef® brisket. Sliced (lean) or chopped (marbled). *St Louis ribs - Sweet & Smokey or House Dry-Rubbed Ribs. *Baby Back ribs - slow smoked and fire grilled *Smoked chicken - sliced The BBQ had a signature smokey flavor and tender, delicious taste. They also had a variety of 4 different sauces on the table including: *Sweet - Sweet, tangy, infused with brown sugar *Original - The sauce that started it a *Sizzlin' - Cayenne & peppers bring a fiery kick *Mustard - A tangy sauce fan-favorite *Smokin - Smokey & sweet with a subtle hint of heat So many sauce options for different flavor profiles. You get your choice of 2 side kicks with the plate and we got the original recipe BBQ beans and the sweet potato. I like that you have the ability to customize your meal from a range of options and sample many different types of BBQ and sides. The choose 4 meats plate was enough food to share with 2 people. Another person in our party ordered the beef brisket sandwich with a side of broccoli. Overall an enjoyable place to eat BBQ with quality food and many customization options. read more

Stopped in to pick up food in the drive thru. Once I got to the window (it was open) I saw the drive thru guy put his nose in a side item to smell it (broccoli) I asked him did it smell okay, he said yes and proceeded to put it in the bag as I am saying are serious! When I ask for the manager everyone seemed like they didn't know who that was..finally some guy that had been standing there the whole time said he was the manager (Jordan) I told him the issue again - and that I didn't appreciate the other guy putting his nose/smelling my food, he should not be doing that at all. Jordan offered to remake my food, I declined. I was shocked by the whole experience and the drive thru guy was so nonchalant about it. Definitely a hard pass to visit again. read more

I can't remember the last time I ordered barbecue cause I really don't order a barbecue. . I ordered from Sonny's and it was the best barbecue I've ever had in my life It was not oily or greasy or gloppy. The pulled chicken and the turkey were fabulous. I looked up to see if they were in my state because I enjoyed the meal so much and unfortunately, they are not in Michigan!! read more

It was ok as a fast food establishment. Need a bit more attentive wait staff. We sat at our table after she initially gave us menus for sour 12 minutes. read more

Food was not hot when it came out. Baked potato was undercooked and difficult to eat. Mac and cheese was greasy and lacking in flavor. Meat was majority fat. Our waitress was not present throughout our meal and left a dirty rag on our table for quite some time. The McDonald's across the street would've been better read more

I would not much stock in the negative reviews especially if the person only post negative reviews and is not local. The is a new modern looking restaurant located just off I75. It's very spacious with a bar and tv. We two hungry guys ordered a big deal pork sandwich with fries. The sandwich had lots of meat and fries were hot. There are four bbq sauces at table to try. Service was quick and the waitress was nice read more

I loved Sonny's BBQ. I ordered the Cuban, and it was delicious. The sandwich was so large, I couldn't even finish it. I want to give a special shoutout to Chastity, my waitress. She was one of the best waitresses I have ever had. She anticipated my wants and made sure I was taken care of. Kudos to her and to the whole staff at Sonny's. I will definitely come back. read more

Sonny's is never a go to restaurant but I do entire it. I few days away I was in the mood brisket I came to Sonny's BBQ. I usually order the sliced brisket. The brisket is mediocre. It's not great, but it's not bad. The slides are not good and the drive thru is always slow. The food is never hot. I don't understand the time it take to receive my meal. I recommend going into the restaurant. read more

Set my curbside pickup time for 5:45, arrived at 5:55 and let them know I was here, even did the thing where I let them know I was on the way. Still waiting at 6:30, with my cranky toddler in the car. Not a single soul has come outside to any car waiting. No one has gotten their order. At the very least kindly come out and explain the delay, don't just leave us all waiting for an hour. I even called them and they basically hung up on me. Absolutely ridiculous. I've learned my lesson. Never again Sonny's. Update: Never got the order and did get it refunded. Also called corporate. I don't understand how they are still in business. I will never go again. read more

The ribs were cold, the eggrolls were full of uncooked dough and the mac and cheese was greasy and pressed together. Absolutely the worst meal I have had in a long time. I hadn't been there in a while and I can see things have changed. I called the restaurant to complain. I wasn't yelling or using Foul language and they hung up on me. Probably my last visit at least to that location read more

I recently moved to lexington and I've been looking for a go to bbq place. Sonny's is close to my apartment so my boyfriend and I gave it a try one night. I got the pulled pork sandwich with fries and he got the turkey sandwich with baked beans. While service was fast and friendly, they did mess up his order and brought out a completely wrong order. It was a quick fix so not too big of an issue. The pulled pork was good but nothing really special or memorable. Fries were meh. Bbq sauce was good and they had a few options if you like sweet vs spicy. I'm glad I tried it but it's not a standout bbq place for me. read more

I went out on a limb and ordered Sonny's for delivery. It's my first time trying it, so I probably should have went to the restaurant. Not much worse then paying inflated delivery prices for food you aren't sure will be awesome. The food was just very ok. Pick 3 meal, beans, chewy tough garlic bread, beans and a side of corn nuggets. $40 with tip. Ouch. My food arrived barely warm, so that doesn't help. It's so close to me too. Maybe I will try them in person sometime in the future if someone convinces me to go back. It's a Saturday night too so I figured at least it should have all been fresh. My chicken surely wasn't. I'm not sure who even put that in the box to send to a customer. read more

Very good food. The sausage was amazing, the chopped pork had a lot of bark with amazing flavor, good coleslaw, not to sweet, and I can't say enough about the beans, awesome flavor with smoked pork mixed in. I stopped in for a late lunch and had the grilled cheese kids meal with a side of green beans. The sandwich was good, and the cheese was tasty. The green beans, however, were hard to eat with a fork but still tasted good. I also decided to go with an additional side of Mac & Cheese. This was a creamy and smooth side, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a wonderful dish to compalment their main course. read more

How hard is it to get everything you order? Placed 2 meals and a kids meal. Didn't get the garlic bread that was included with one of the meals. Took forever to complete the order. It was before 3:00 and they had two tables in the place. Looked like 6 servers all in a corner complaining about how slow it is and they won't make any money. Another server was sitting at a table eating Arby's. They had a sign on the front door, hiring and one of the benefits was free food. Could be a bad sign a server would rather pay for food. read more

I'll never order online for this restaurant again. I thought the first time there was a problem that it was a fluke. The same problem again tells me that it's simply the way it is. The website is not customer friendly, but I managed to place my order, got a text confirmation. On arriving at the location, I followed their directions, texted that I was waiting, got a text back that they'd be out in a moment, but they never showed. I finally went inside, was handed my order after a wait. Got home to find it only partially correct, and cold. The food that was there tasted good after microwaving, but their standards have fallen in the last couple of years. Not worth a crosstown drive. read more

We were in the area for a softball tournament. We arrived shortly before their closing time and asked if it was ok to dine in. The lady answered very shortly that yes we could dine in but "we close @10." We offered to go somewhere else and she continued to seat us and then informed us that all we could order was a sandwich. We were polite ordered our "sandwich" and were out of there by 10. As a matter of fact we left before the other customers that had been there when we arrived. The sandwich was ok, it's just that I don't do bread so I would have preferred something else, but I did remove the bread and eat the brisket. We love Sonny's and will not let this experience stop us from patronizing but we will probably not stop at this one again if we are ever in Lexington. If a place is advertised to be open till a set time then please make your customers feel welcome! There are many other good options just down the street and they have amazing food and service! Just sayin! read more

If you want bad service eat here. That's about all there is to it. I have a few gift cards left that I have to use then will likely give up on this restaurant. Ive only had any luck with service n prob 1 in 4 visits. My last visit I waited 20 minutes for someone to take my drink order. They returned with my drink didn't offer to take my order and didn't come back for another 10 minutes so I gave up and left without ordering. This visit I tried to get the horseradish sauce that is supposed to come with the sandwich. I ordered automatically Had to ask for it after bringing me blue cheese twice telling me it was horseradish. They finally told me they didn't have any at all, which is the same because that sandwich in that sauce is the whole reason I came there to eat in the first place. The main reason this was so aggravating is that when I told the server it was blue cheese and not the sauce I needed I was looked. At like I was stupid and didn't know what blue cheese tasted like. I finished my side before getting the first bite of my sandwich. Finally had to eat it without the sauce that's supposed to come with it. I was however, offered a discount when asked for one.good food when made right. Terrible service read more

That was not only the most greasy bbq I've ever had, but the most greasy meal I ever had. No exaggeration, it was as if it was 50% Crisco, 50% frozen bbq meat thawed out at the store. Don't take my word for it. It was so greasy it was congealed hot. Get some pulled pork, take it home and let it sit for an hour in the fridge. Now do that with any other bbq place. It was like eating paste. read more

I went to Sonny's tonight with high expectations. I have had friends tell me how great other locations were, now there's one in Lexington, Ky near me! I was not disappointed in the least, Sonny's was a great experience! The building is easy to get to and there's ample parking. The interior of the restaurant was very clean and uncluttered. The aroma when you enter the front door will make your mouth water! A lot of choices are available on the menu- I had half a chicken, macaroni and cheese, tater tots, coke slaw garlic bread. It was all very flavorful and the portions are just enough. My dinner companion had the St Louis Ribs, baked beans, a sweet potato, coke slaw and cornbread. I was able to sample one of the ribs- it was fantastic. We both had iced tea to drink and our server never let us run low. The service overall was excellent. I highly recommend Sonny's and I look forward to returning there soon! read more

Worst BBQ place in Lexington. We ate there a few weeks back and when we walked in the smell of burning plastic overwhelmed us. Will never eat at that poorly ran place ever again. NOT RECOMMENDED. read more

The atmosphere was decent. It smelled good and was very clean. However we waited at least 15 minutes after being seating to even get our drinks order. The waitress never checked on us either. Let me start by saying I'm a big Sunny's fan but tonight I got to say I was very disappointed. My wife and I both ordered the pork 3 way. When we got our food the fries were under cooked and the pork tasted like it was 2 days old. Sliced pork was so dry it crumbled. The ribs about broke a tooth they were so hard and ver done. Told the waitress about it and she was very kind and said she'd get us some fresh sliced pork. She brought us sliced chicken lol. Sunny's can get it right and it's great. Just disappointed tonight. read more

Great bbq chain! We have used Sonnys bbq sauce for years but never ate at their restaurants! I had ribs n baked beans and Ioved them. I'm Picky about bbq beans and these were almost as good as my wife's. Pork n beans w most likely their bbq sauce in it along w other sweet ingredients! Great. In fact I'm picky about bbq, mostly the sauce! Bad sauce bad meal! Being from Okla we like tomato based bbq sauce and Sonny's is! Ribs were not burned or over cooked. St Louis style! If u get a chance drop by u will love it unless u like vinegar based sauce and if so move on further south. I hate that crap! read more

I visited on a Wednesday evening, and stood at the hostess stand for over 10 minutes. Finally, was seated and ordered ice tea. The tea came, then waited for sweetener, then waited for a straw. I ordered the BBQ sampler plate, hoping for some decent Q. Dinner arrived, and then I had to go up to the kitchen area to get a fork. First up was the chicken, which was blood raw, brisket slices that were difficult to chew, ok ribs, and ok pulled pork. I asked the server to check out the chicken----- she told me that's the way Sonny's serves it because they cook with oak. I laid down the BS flag. The manager type came by and apologized, said the cook is new, and this shouldn't have been served. I hope Sonny's can do better, but I'll be eating elsewhere. read more

No space to park an Rv there. The road also had signs for no parking. We didn't even get to try it.

We were excited that Sonny's was opening in Hamburg area of Lexington, but, one or two weeks after grand opening, the restaurant has ALREADY gone to hell! I just was served COLD French fries, COLD ribs, and my friend ordered turkey, it was dried out and COLD!!! When we told the server, the MOD took the cost of the ribs off and listed the reason as COLD. I explained that food served like that put me at risk of food poisoning. The MOD never came to our table. We watched several people come in and stand for 4 or 5 minutes before being seated while 7 or 8 employees were congregated at the bar completely oblivious to customers. They were DEAD! Not even busy! Do yourself a favor and drive to Sonny's in Nicholasville- it is definitely way better than this dangerous food borne illness location. The server Whitney did her best to help, but, there were just too many problems for her to be able to do without any help from her co-workers! Never eating here again!!! read more
