THIS PLACE IS 5 STARS AND NOTHING LESS. I probably have Sonny's falafel at least once a week because that's how often I crave it. I would probably go more often but I actually have to control myself from doing that. What to order: Pita falafel with aubergine (6.95). Toppings wise, everything is amazing but you ABSOLUTELY must get some of those spicy carrots, the green sauce and the red hot sauce. I also like to add the cucumbers, pickles, olives to balance out the heat. I always tell people that this is the best falafel in Amsterdam (prob the world) and it is a crowd pleaser every time. Seriously you have to eat here. It looks like unassuming drunk food on the outside, but on the inside, truly the freshest most delicious thing ever.

Sonny is famous for their fast service, delightfully falafels and all you can eat buffet. Take a few bites and fill up with more salad, chick peas and usually fresh veggies. It has plenty of vegan options . Talk about an affordable meal for lunch or dinner. Take falafel sandwiches and fries to go, or to eat in, bar-style at the 5 or 6 seats available. I have tried falafels from LA, Atlanta to Amsterdam and I thought this location specifically had the best falafels! I am allergic to flour, so I enjoyed the falafels without the bread. http://www.sonnyfalafel.nl/index.html

    Probably the best in town

Downright incredible falafel. The balls are homemade and cooked fresh. What really sets this place apart is the salad bar. With falafel in hand (can choose with albgerine {eggplant} or hummus) squash it flat in the pita. Then proceed to fill up from the incredible selection of vegetables. Tons of flavor combos, and sauce options. Really challenges the standard sandwich and brings that customization to the table. Still tasting as great as four years ago. Really glad to see Sonny still in business serving up quality

    Best falafels ever.

Jesus. We found this place for lunch and it's the best falafel place I have ever been to. It taste me great, and the service is friendly. I can't believe I'm just writing a review now. I bring all my friends visiting from out of town here and whenever we're back, they always ask to stop by this falafel place to grab and go. It's so good that we still talk about it back in the US. I would highly recommend coming by here for a quick snack.

THE biggest and best frites in Amsterdam. The large is almost as big as that table!

To my surprise the other day I had not reviewed Sonny yet. Funny to me because I have been there countless times. I and find it's the best falafel and friets in the city. Well now that I say that, it's the best I've had in any city. Let me say that this is dangerously close to where I live. A place like this should be many kilometers away to make it more challenging to get such a good cheap meal. Luckily for me it is close though. Now I have food which is healthy, vegetarian, delicious and inexpensive at my disposal. Sonny is a great place to get your falafel fix. There are two other places in the city which are also quite good, but Sonny trumps those no problem. It works like some of the other falafel specific places where you pack your full of veggies and sauce. Note: be careful with the extra hot sauce. Even for somebody like myself who loves spicy food it packs a punch. I highly recommend getting it's with the addition of smashed Eggplant. Sooooo good. If you are looking for fries as well sunny does them up perfectly and they even seem healthy. A falafel and small fries is almost too much to eat. I do often give it my best shot though. The one thing I did find strange, then it moved to quirky, and now is funny, the staff. During the day there is often a lady who works which has a strong opinion and the need to tell to you how to make the perfect falafel. She has tried on many occasions to convince me not to eat the extra hot sauce and then smiles with acceptance when I say I enjoyed it afterwards. In the evening or most other times a man is this working there. He is a quiet serious type person. All business. On the off chance you do catch him on a good day or coax a smile out of him it's pure gold. If you're trying to decide between two places for a meal or want to try something new go to Sonny. I haven't met a person yet or anyone I've taken there who hasn't given it five stars.

This is my favorite falafel joint on this planet and on my top 10 list of restaurants too. My wife and I started a falafel blog reviewing every falafel restaurant we could find after eating here. We eventually lost interest because none came close to the delicious food at Sonny Falafel except one, FaFa in Copenhagen, now closed unfortunately. The key to Sonny is the topping and sauce bar where you may serve yourself. The 5 or 6 sauces are very different and all very yummy. There are raw vegetable toppings to add some crunch and spicy cooked vegetables too. I highly recommend ordering the falafel on pita with aubergine and go crazy on the toppings. They only have outside seating so pick your weather carefully. Also, no beer on the menu. Despite this they get 5 stars from me. My big problem now is that there are probably many good restaurants in Amsterdam, right? It will be difficult to try them when visiting Amsterdam if the weather is good.

The street on which I ate this magnificent food. Tomatoes in there too. Everything so fresh and good.

THE PERFECT FOOD. This is the absolute perfect vegan restaurant. Perfect food. I asked him what he recommended that was vegan (extremely kind and sweet man, easy to talk to). He said "falafel?" And I'm like "yeah". I ordered falafel with aubergene. A couple minutes go by, he handed me a couple of his French fries just to try, SO GOOS. Very shortly thereafter he hands me a warm pita cut into to make a pocket, smeared with eggplant tapenade and filled with probably like 6 falafel stuffed in there. But then!! There is this whole bar of amazing toppings, unlimited, for you to choose from. He advised me to put the sauce on first the squish the bread so as to distribute. I filled mine with spicy chick peas, spicy carrots, couscous, medium sauce (SO GOOD), some pickles. Ugh. It was absolutely fantastic, SO FILLING. This place is ideal. I'm going back tomorrow.

i'm just gonna go ahead and call the guy, (who i assume is the owner because the framed newspaper photo is him) a falafel nazi and his stuff is the bomb. why i call him the falafel nazi.. well he never ever broke one smile when taking our order and he told us very firmly only one trip to the salad.. no more! of course we pretended like we didn't hear that part and went twice but he definitely sternly told us ONE TRIP ONLY, but he still let us dive in again :) we ordered a falafel sandwich on the brown bread and a small frites which is huge. the items on the salad bar are sooo good and yummy, how can one only make one trip??? i would even say the toppings are better than Maoz. we got the falafel, frites and a soda and it was only 10 euros and enough for two people. fast, healthy and delicous food! not much seating here so you might have to stand.

We were in Amsterdam for vacation and I was in falafel heaven! Each corner we turned there was a restaurant or a fast food joint that served falafels and shwarma. Knowing me, I looove this kind of food! So we walked into Sonny and ordered a Falafel Pita and I swear it was the best falafel I've ever had in my ENTIRE LIFE!!! Ever since I've gotten back home to the states, I've been on a falafel rage and have been to a number of restaurants and fast food joints, and all their falafels disappoint. I wish I was back in Amsterdam so I can have just one more Falafel Pita *sigh*

While visiting Amsterdam this was my food spot. The falafel is amazing and not bad priced for the city. The fries are fresh cut and amazing so many different choices of sauces to put on your fries. The salad bar for your pita is really fresh and a side selection hands down it was my favorite spot. They just need to stay open later they close at 9pm

This conveniently-located (just a stone's throw from Centraal Station) eatery boasts many options (all vegan, too!), but there really is no contest--the falafel is awesome. It's hot and fresh and perfectly seasoned. It comes in a warm and pillowy pita. You get access to an incredibly inviting salad bar with which to top your masterpiece. There are sauces galore. (Try the ones that are labeled hot chili if you like a pleasant bit of tongue-tingling goodness.) Prices are reasonable, and though the place was hopping, it was easy to find seating, which is available inside and out and is clean and comfortable. I went for an early dinner (I have no idea how long I have been awake), but this would be a perfect lunch spot. They also have freshly-squeezed orange juice. While I didn't try it, there's a giant juice press in one corner of the space--it really adds to the "fresh vibes" of this place.
