The 50's-style diner setup is awesome, but the real fun is picking up the phone at your table to place your order. You don't see that anymore--and I absolutely loved it! We arrived just past the lunch rush, so things were nice and relaxed. I walked in thinking I'd order a burger... but the Chicken Fried Steak called my name, and I'm glad it did. Perfect portion size--not one of those giant plate-hogs--and served with mashed potatoes and cole slaw. The cole slaw deserves its own shoutout: rough-cut cabbage, creamy mayo dressing, and served cold just the way I like it. Everything on the plate was delicious. My wife went with the Chili Cheese Burger and potato wedges, and she gave it a big thumbs-up. And since it's a diner, I had to finish with a slice of Coconut Cream Pie. Let's just say--mission accomplished. Creamy, flavorful, and exactly what I was hoping for. If you love classic diners, friendly service, and comfort food done right, Hamburger King is absolutely worth the stop.

Three street corn…read moretortillas with scrambled eggs and carne asada, plus chips and salsa, and they were seriously so good. The carne asada had great flavor and the whole thing felt like a really solid brunch order. Downtown Shawnee has a lot of character, and Theopolis feels like it belongs there. It has a little bit of that dressed-up brunch feel without being stuffy, and there's clearly a lot of thought behind the restaurant. I'm always happy to see a locally owned spot that puts an emphasis on local ingredients, too. I'd definitely come back for the tacos, and next time I'd be tempted to try one of their cocktails. The menu makes it pretty hard to pick just one thing.
