Yes we really wanted an ice cream cone! So 20 mins later we get to order 2 vanilla cones please! Sonic: hold on let me see if we have any more cones Us: n/p.....5 mins later Sonic: thanx for choosing sonic what can I get for you? Us: 2 vanilla cones Sonic: oh yea, lol we don't have anymore cones Us: damn that stinks, ok can we have a chocolate hazelnut shortbread Gelato and a peanut butter shake please. Sonic: choc. Hazel-what? Is that one flavor Us: yes I'm reading it verbatim from your menu Sonic: ok and a strawberry shake? Us: no a pb shake, and the hazelnut shortbread Gelato Sonic: ok pull up we get to the window and ask the man to verify our order and guess what yelpers!?! It was wrong, like completely wrong! We clarify things then wait an additional 8 minutes! The kicker is we could see ice cream cones through the window. So I ask: Sir are you out of cones? Yes but cake cones only we still have waffle ... I wish we were told that because we would have gotten what we came there for in the first place! The peanut butter shake is thick as all hell but that's fine. The "gelato" is a disgrace! They mixed an absurd amount of chocolate syrup to vanilla ice cream and blended it down to a soup with shortbread garnish. If that's how Sonic does gelato they need not to do it at all! Customer service is bad. They are very rude and unprofessional. there seems to be no manager at this location around 2:30 am when I came. I was sitting for a small shake for nearly 30 mins. Employees are in the back goofy around and eating ice cream and shakes while taking orders when they decide to do that. i even saw an employee leave the register while on the phone with shake in hand and walk out to car where they taking up a stall that is used for customers and sat on phone. And never got my shake also btw. This location needs a severe crackdown or to be shutdown. This is unacceptable read more

This location is an absolute disaster and should honestly be shut down until someone competent is in charge. We waited an absurd amount of time for our food with zero communication from staff. The kiosk repeatedly claimed that multiple employees were "on the way" to deliver our order, which never happened. No one bothered to tell us that we were apparently expected to walk up to the window ourselves. We sat there trusting the system while being completely ignored. When we finally called to ask what was going on, the man on the phone was shockingly rude, aggressive, and borderline violent in his tone. Instead of helping, he spoke to us like we were an inconvenience for expecting basic service. It was hostile, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable. The entire place felt chaotic and unsafe, with people lingering around the property and no visible staff managing the situation or providing any direction. Horrible place. Waited almost an hour for food even though it was a mobile order. One hour for fast food? Yeah, I was pretty confused. We went through drive thru and order wasn't ready even though app said it was. Lady told us to park the car and wait for our food. It didn't come, so my husband literally walked through the drive thru to get our order. Still had to wait. Order finally came. Against my better judgement, I gave them another chance tonight. Staying true to brand, they forgot half the order. The half they decided to give included a bacon cheeseburger toaster that was missing the burger patty and onion rings. So, basically a BLT with two strips of Fakin Bacon. After waiting for 4 minutes, an employee informed me that the parked car delivery was closed and only the drive-through was open. They also mentioned that they were only accepting cash. This is my second review with Sonic Drive Through in Newark NJ on Springfield avenue. My first review was not good because the burger was cold when I ordered it at 11:30am! And it tasted horrible. Today I decided to try the chicken sandwhich, crunchy version and it was uncooked in the middle! Absolutely disgusting!!! I called to complain and I was told I could bring the sandwich back in for a refund but I could not get back there so I am leaving this review. Their drinks are good in this location but that's it. Most of the employees here are super nice and helpful. But I'm writing this review about a specific employee who was exceptional. I came to this location around 1am and ordered some food. I was met at the window by a very condescending female associate when I asked for a drink at the window. She told me she was not going to give it to me because it's " Too Late" for her to add on a drink, which I've done multiple times. I don't understand why she was giving me such a hard time maybe she was having a bad day but her tone & condescending verbiage was literally unacceptable. Unprepared and needs an overhaul in staffing, very unorganized, came to order a slushee and that took approximately 35 mins, during this time i saw 1 host go to 4 cars trying to deliver 1 order, other hosts cussing with each other in the back! When the order was given to customer in car and it was wrong the hosts claimed it was in bottom of bag of course outraged that the order wasn't there that customer came inside and demanded a refund! I would not suggest this location anymore until they are better organized and the hosts learn proper customer service!
