Terrible experience. The service was literally awful. They basically threw my food on the table like I was a dog instead of actually handing it to me properly. No courtesy, no professionalism, and absolutely no respect for the customer. I understand that fast food can get busy, but being busy is not an excuse to treat people this way. Drove up for drinks and felt like I went back in time. Every spot was filled with trucks and teenagers. Amazing people watching! Lemonade, slushees and milkshakes along with burgers, hotdogs and fries. There is definitely a nostalgic feeling to Sonic. It brings back memories of college and late night milkshakes. Food is always fine for a sonic. If you go to a sonic you have to expect fast food. At best it's nostalgic. The ambiance is alright. I wish they had more patio seating. Service is pretty extremely slow but good. 30-45 min for any order whether it's two meals or just a soda. The servers themselves are kind and friendly. Unfortunately I've seen multiple times multiple ladies who were dissatisfied with their order or the service and treat the servers in a disrespectful way. Sonic Drive-In on Folly Road on James Island is a really good place to get a quick meal and a good drink. I like the drive in concept, but I usually get out of my vehicle to get some more air. The food here is delicious and the service is really fast and efficient for all that they do. After visiting this Sonic location a number of times lately, I've left disappointed or frustrated every time. The service at this location is consistently very slow. What happened to food at the speed of sound?! The last time I visited I ordered one shake. I was there for 20 minutes and my shake was (and always is) very poorly mixed. They didn't even look busy. I'm from the Midwest where there is a Sonic on every corner, and this location just fails in comparison. I've also been surprised that two times now they bring my food out, I offer to pay and they tell me I've already paid. How can they not even know if I've paid or not? I've corrected them that I haven't paid, but I wonder how many times they've given away free food due to their lack of attention to what's going on. I ordered two drinks only and after about 30 minutes no one came out so I asked for my money back and since I ordered it on the app, they could not figure out how to refund the money. Kudos to Sonic. I think feel the quality of the ingredients of the food and preservatives used in the shakes is not high quality, but then again, it's a Sonic. You are going for the theme and the experience. Since my last visit, big upgrades. The digital screens and working credit card machines were a big improvement. Our server was prompt and came on skates with a smile. We would love to see screens in the center come down and show short movies or cartoons to complete the "drive-in" experience. I'm in town for the week and this is next door to where I'm staying. Yesterday, I saw the reviews for this place and said nope and drove 15 minutes to a cook out. My sister really wanted a shake but I wasnt willing to drive 15 minutes. I ordered the SuperSonic Double Bacon, a medium fresh banana shake. My sister got a peanut butter banana shake. Despite there being a massive crowd of people we got the correct order and it in less than 5 minutes. Food was hot, shakes were delicious. Who doesn't love drive thru burgers? They have some of the best. Also have some really great shakes. Ok go for the hot dogs. Really nice and cheap. If you want to eat there the car hops are cool, reminds me when I was a teenager back when the world was still cooling! They do have specials all the time so keep an eye on the paper or tv. The premise is cool; an old fashioned drive in with "car-hops" on roller skates... delivering your meal to your window. There isn't a tray, (a la A&W Drive-Ins) that sits outside your car, but still, the idea is fun. The food is a different matter all together. We have lived here for 14 years, and have tried going back over the years many times, and finally gave it up. The quality was just... bad. We never got fresh French fries, they always seemed to be limp and cold. The Chili Dog had barely any chili on it... just subpar all around. After seeing the commercials, we always "want what they're having!" The milkshakes are better these days than they used to be; I understand Sonic is using real milk fat (minimum 10%) ice cream for there concoctions. I wish it could be better; we would like to have a place to go once in awhile. read more

We have tried burgers, fries and chicken tenders, and they're always tossed out due to the low quality and cold, leftover texture. I love the selection at Sonic. Not your typical fast food menu. The option to drive up and dine in your car while carhops come to refill your drinks, etc is a cool way to spend lunch or a light dinner. The drive thru at this location is pretty slow, especially at night and on the weekends. Plan on it taking a bit of extra time. Sonic has nice specials that keep things interesting, like half price burger day, free milkshakes day, $1 corn dogs day, etc. They call themselves the ultimate drink stop, and that's true. So many different combos makes things interesting. And nothing beats their milkshakes and ice cream treats! read more

Why is it so hard to get an order right? I ordered two chocolate and reeses cup waffle cone sundaes through the drive in and when I got them home there were two waffle cones with vanilla ice cream and a sprinkle of peanuts on top, no sundae toppings at all. Joey helped me and my son when we pulled in for a drink and a vanilla cone. Not only was he polite and courteous when we were ordering, he made sure my order was correct as it was loud outside. They said they they couldn't do sonic blast. No explanation as to why not. They said they could do milk shakes though. That doesn't make any sense to me. Nonetheless I ordered a cookie dough milk shake. There was zero cookie dough in my shake and the milkshake tasted very wierd. I through it away.
