I am writing this as it pertains to my wife which impacts me. My wife went in to see Dr. Erickson for a simple ingrown toenail. (We have had experience getting another toe taken care of before we moved to California and thought it would be a straightforward surgery.) This time it was multiple visits, constant infection and pain. It took months before the infection was totally gone. At times my wife felt her infected toe was an annoyance to the doctor. And now, unfortunately, my wife is left with a disfigured big toe that will never have a normal toe nail ever again. (see picture) We do not recommend Dr. Erickson. read more

Dr . Erickson office is located in the back of the medical building complex. It took me a little while to find it . Lots of parking by the front entrance . Staffs are friendly and polite. Dr. Erickson is very nice and helpful. She suggested to buy an Amazon orthotic for arch support instead of making a custom made one ( which is not covered my insurance and costs $600 ) . She also gave other suggestions to improve the care of my foot . She is very knowledgeable and spend time with her patients . I highly recommend Dr. Erickson and her team . read more

"Smartest Doctor on Planet Earth?" I came to see Dr Erickson for a foot injury. They have a funny little office back from the street. It's a little bit of a hunt to find the office, but it's worth it. She took my case seriously, got x-rays, and then give my foot a thorough exam. I admit I screamed a few times, but it was good pain. She isolated the problem to a few possibilities, and suggested an MRI, which I'll be getting soon. I was impressed with Dr Erickson's grasp of her field. It's not often I encounter someone so capable. (And we engineers are not easily impressed.) Dr. Erickson is clearly an extraordinarily intelligent person. I'm pretty sure she's a rocket scientist or a quantum physicist in her spare time. read more

Dr. Erickson is always positive and what I like most is that she always makes sure you are aware of all of your options. She did a xray out of her office and explained every detail to me. This is my second visit with her in the last 3 years and she came highly recommended obviously for a reason. Staff is very supportive as soon as you walk through the door. Gave me a time estimate based on her patient load and it was spot on. read more

Only 1 official visit for my mom with Dr. Erickson, but 2 overall visits to her office as of this review. Making an appointment and getting set up for my mom's first visit was fairly simple and easy, the only minor problem was locating the building for them..it's like literally on a 3 rd building in the back of the other 2 brick building, theirs is like a stuco..fyi. Even the picking up of the paperwork was in and out. As for the first visit, I was pretty happy overall in terms of her staff, they actually held my mom's hand and helped walk her to the the patient room and even helped her walk back. As for Dr. Erickson, she has a very good bedside manner imo. She informed us of what she's was going to do to my moms feet, she suggested lotions and oils to slow down or prevent dry skin, fungus, etc..overall I think I'll be making the appropriate appointments for here in out to have my mom's feet and nails looked at. read more

I went to Dr Erickson years ago and never went back. As mentioned in several of the reviews, she seem irritated and rushed through my visit. Furthermore she did all the talking and would not allow me to ask questions. At the end of the appointment she just walked out. She did not help me at all. Very rude and not professional. My primary care doctor referred me to Dr. Erickson for some ongoing foot pain I had in the ball of my left foot. Dr. E diagnosed it as a neuroma, which is a pinched nerve in the ball of the foot. I began wearing a metatarsal arch in my shoes. Unfortunately the pain did not get any better. I finally saw Dr. Judianne Walker, a podiatrist at Bay Area Foot Care. She correctly diagnosed my condition as sesamoiditis, educating me about the sesamoid bones in my foot which are supposed to be cushioned by fat, which unfortunately becomes thinner as we age. I now have some simple pads to adhere on the metatarsal arches that slightly lift my foot so that there is no more pressure on these sesamoid bones when I walk. A simple solution! And it's already helping! I feel quite annoyed with Dr. Erickson for her misdiagnosis, which cost me several more months of pain and discomfort. As I again look over the brochure on Neuromas she gave me, I see that my symptoms and areas of pain have Nothing To Do with pinched nerves! I don't know how she could have been so mistaken! During our appointment, she seemed kind of agitated and talked more than she listened. Perhaps that was the problem! read more

My son had a procedure by this doctor. I am sure she is a professionally qualified doctor. The procedure went fine. The part that was really upsetting to us was the way how her office managed the visit. There was no discussion with us how much we were going to pay prior to them starting their procedure, and our bill was a big surprise, even though we had deductible. On top of the procedure charges, they billed an extra $150 that is itemized as new patient, even though the whole procedure only went for less than 30 minutes. In any standard medical treatment that I've experienced in the past, the initial visit can be taken as a consultation that is sometimes free, in this case we consulted, and made decision in less than three minutes it was a go, she still should have had a finance person to go over our entire bill, that was not the case. And we got the surprise when the bill arrived. Once she finished the small operation, she told us to schedule a follow up visit which is standard in any such procedure, and with most doctors the follow up is covered by the procedure. I later was told that's not the case with her office. The receptionist would not give us a follow up appointment, the operation happened sometime in July, and I explained to her my son had to go to another state to spend the rest of the summer with his grandparents in August, I asked if she could find a spot prior to his departure, the answer was no. I explained to her that the doctor even said she just needed to take a look before he traveled, I would assume it would last less than five minutes, couldn't she find something for us, she showed a huge disinterest to my plea, the answer was no. I stood there with a waiting room full of people, and didn't seem to get anywhere with her, finally I asked what option was left to us, how about putting us on a cancellation list. To our great surprise, they never called or scheduled us a follow up visit. It seems to me that the doctor herself is quite disconnected with or unaware of how the staffs run her office. Had the doctor known this, I felt our option would have been quite different. In my life I've never been sent off by a medical practice after a procedure without a follow up visit. It seems to me, something is missing here. To me, they didn't run the place like a caring healthcare provider, the office staffs were stoic and inflexible, and you couldn't pass the steely screen to get to the doctor herself. I didn't feel we were given the kind of care and humane treatment my son deserved. They acted very unprofessionally. I do not recommend this office. We are still protesting the remaining $75 bill with them, right now, instead of taking some responsibility on their part, each time they called us, it is all about collecting the money, and there was no insterest in discussing why they handled the whole thing the way they did, and they kept threatening collection. Dr. Erickson has always been very helpful with all of our foot issues. My husband, son, and I have all gone to her. My son has a bunion, which is very unusual for a kid, and she has been helping us with that and his Achilles tendon issues for awhile now. She is friendly and always patient. They don't take debit or credit cards, though, and that stinks because I never have cash or checks with me. The office staff is wonderful, too. We were there a few weeks ago and they were trying to tell a Spanish only speaking lady they don't take Medi-Cal, and they were so patient with her even though they went back and forth for about 10 minutes. So, another FYI, obviously they don't speak Spanish there! Or take Medi-Cal. :) read more

I visited Dr. Erickson several times for plantar fasciitis. Her 1st and only treatment recommendation was cortisone shots and she gave me 2 within a couple of months. This is controversial, but I will say it helped me tremendously. So no complaints there. My low rating is for Dr. Erickson's demeanor, I guess you would say. I was very uncomfortable with her as she always seemed extremely agitated. She talked so fast to the point of stumbling over her words and talking right over you. Her movements were also extremely fast - hard to explain... It was like she had just had 2 gallons of coffee - or something. And it was like that each time I saw her. If I tried to discuss something with her she couldn't seem to focus and slow down to answer the question asked and would respond with something that didn't address the question asked at all. She also got EXTREMELY defensive when I asked her about alternate ways to treat my problem, like how dare I challenge or question her! I just wanted to understand the options. It all just hit me as too strange. I will not see her again. Could be it was just that we did not have compatible personalities, but it seemed like something more was going on and I was not comfortable with having her treat me. read more

Dr. Erickson may have good qualities others might note, but none that my 81 year old father and I have had the opportunity to see. My Dad was in the hospital with a hip fall in September, and the hospital staff called on Dr. Erickson for a visit to check his feet. Let me first say I love my Dad and have helped with pretty much all of his bodily needs in my years of his caretaker. But, I know little about cutting and maintaining the strange things that happen to toe nails when one turns 81. I was suspect of my Dad's report that Dr. Erickson came to see him and work on his feet in the hospital, but said nary a word to him. Until today. Dad has a walker, and moves like a tortoise. If anyone has ever cared for an 81 year old walker dependent (or more) person, just getting from Point A to Point B can be a challenge. Long story short, we arrived at Dr. Erickson's office this morning for a 9:30 appointment. I took off work, picked up and transported my Dad, and upon arrival found ALL of the handicapped spaces in front of Dr. Erickson's office full. None available. I pulled to the curb, instructed my Dad to head to the two story building and look for office #280 while I parked the car. I hated to do so, but there were no handicap spaces to park so I could walk in with him. He did as I asked.......and got lost. After parking the car and entering the building I did not see him by the elevator. Or on the first floor. Or on the 2nd floor. Or in Dr. Erickson's lobby. After a frantic search I found him being escorted from the elevator bank by a wonderful woman seemingly older than he; I was relieved, thanked her, and continued to Dr. Erickson's office. My Dad then told me he had been there before, but couldn't get the door to open with his walker and no one answered when he knocked. When I entered with him, the front receptionist told me we had violated Dr. Erickson's "five minute rule," and our appointment for the day had been canceled. I shared that I had taken time from work, and we were only late because there were no handicap spaces available and my Dad had been lost in the less than well signed building. She said, "we have rules, and the five minute waiver period is over." I asked to speak to the office manager, and was told I would be able to see her. A minute later, a 'Nurse Ratchet type' emerged and offered her name as "Donna." She said "Dr. Erickson is aware you are here, but you have violated our five minute rule and she has surgery in two hours and will not see you today......you must reschedule." My Dad had been talking about this appointment for several days. He was bewildered by what was happening, and then embarrassed when he realized his getting lost compounded the problem. It's tough seeing an 81 year old parent in such a situation. I took quick note that the office staff was completely without smile the entire time I was in the office. Quite the sign, I think in retrospect. FWIW, I think Dr. Erickson has the compassion of a brick, and I will never let her touch my father in the future. No way Just for credibility, I will say that I have had wonderful experiences with my father's care at many other places in the Pleasanton. Dr. Gagnon and Dr. Owyang of Valley Eye Care have wonderful elder care manners and professionalism. Dr. Kambiz Behzadi of Tri Valley rthopedic has been to the point, warm, and wonderful. Cardiologist Rajesh "Sam" Suri of Pacific Cardiology has gone above and beyond on multiple occasions for my Dad. The Valley Care blood testing facility is wonderful for elderly folks as I have seen on multiple occasions. But, Dr. Sonia Erickson is not wonderful with elders, in my experience and my Dad's experience. After she kicked my Dad out, I called for another referral and found another Pleasanton podiatrist thrilled to have my medicare and supplemental insured Dad see him on 4 days notice. My recommendation is that if you have a busy schedule and are trying to care for a loved one and also for a family, don't waste your time with Dr. Sonia Erickson. She can't even maintain an office with adequate handicap access, and has no warmth or common professional etiquette. Podiatrists want your business. Find one who appreciates yours. Not Dr. Sonia Erickson. read more

I have been seeing Dr Erickson for over 5 years now for Plantar Fasciitas. She's WONDERFUL!!!! The in-office x-rays are convenient, the office staff are top notch! Dr Erickson takes the time to sit down and talk, REALLY talk with you. She tries to find solutions that fit your lifestyle. She is such a calm, caring person, always has a smile. I find her to be quite compassionate and very competent not only in the office but in the operating room as well. I have recommended her to so many people I have lost count! The reviews on here are puzzling so much that this is my first review. I have seen Dr. Erickson and can't say one bad thing about her or the office staff. She is very through, explains everything, gives me options in my care, and answers any questions that I had on all my appointments with her. She runs on time or close to, which is always a plus for me since I have brought children in with me. Since I started going to her, I have found that a friend sees her too. She is absolutely happy with her too. I am,unfortunately, switching insurance. She and another doctor makes me sad that I am changing...my other doctors I'm fine with changing. read more

She diagnosed it correctly, even though the MRI showed nothing. Then she removed it and educated me about the growth afterword. I was so surprised when I saw low reviews for Sonia. She is literally one of the best doctors I have ever had. She is super professional, explains everything in depth and has a great bedside manner. I have seen her for several surgeries and have always had the best results. She is an excellent physician. She is also a lovely person. When she treated me we always discussed literature, music, food and the like. I don't think the reviews accurately reflect her practice. Yesterday I called her office to get some info regarding my last treatment and her secretary was very nice and helped me get the information I needed right away. Dr. Erickson is fabulous! She takes her time and explains everything, is caring and compassionate, and loves her job - it shows! She is an expert diagnostician and the orthotics are the best. Most podiatrists either measure your feet or send you to an outside facility where you are asked to STAND in either foam or some material. When you are standing, your arches can collapse so the measurement is less than ideal. I have needed orthotics for 20+ years and have tried other methods (sometimes limited with insurance) and my feet sing when I'm using these! Her staff are helpful and courteous.
