Yall, I was at a show here and the staff were just so sweet. I left two really expensive chargers and a very diligent woman named Nora at the box office ran on foot TWICE to check not only the lost and found but also the verbally described area that I thought I left the chargers in. The show was lit, and knowing that the employees are that sweet and helpful, gives me so much peace of mind in coming back. Rating of the venue itself, not the concert (Amira Elfeky). The venue seemed clean besides the ceilings of the showroom. Bartender was pleasant and attentive. The stage was a good height to be able to see the performers. Was really up and personal which I loved. At times, the crowd on the floor were pretty crammed but we all made it work. The most racist experience I've had in Boston. My friends and I attended emo night, and the bouncers were extremely rude and singled my friends and I out (a group of mostly POC) and excluded us from coming in. There was no written notice of a mandatory dress code and we were turned away and rudely dismissed when we questioned why we couldn't get in. All because we weren't dressed "emo enough" according to them, which is completely arbitrary and goes against the anti-establishment spirit of being emo. Came here for the Shawn James show in July. Overall it's not a bad venue for smaller shows. I bought 8 drinks total that night (4x2 as I was with my girlfriend) and my tab at the end of the night was over $120 so you definitely want to pregame before you enter. On top of that the fucking power went out during the show due to a blown fuse lol. Luckily Shawn James is awesome and improvised. There's better places to go for a show in Boston. read more

Staff was unreasonable upon entry. One 18+ member of our group (in an 18+ venue) was not permitted; therefore, the rest of our party was as not permitted entry. Staff was extremely unreasonable in explaining the issue and providing information regarding future steps to be taken. read more

I attended a show at Sonia and had a medical emergency. The staff did an amazing job taking care of me. They couldn't have been nicer.

People saying the sound "isn't great" are being too kind. The sound for live shows at Sonia is awful every single time. I've been here for countless concerts, and the sound is always awful. No vocals for minutes at a time, no sound out of half the speakers, some drums too loud, some not audible at all. All of these happened last weekend at a show I attended, but it's also happened most shows I've been to there. It's always terrible. Two stars only because it's a good convenient shape for a live venue, and the people who work there are nice. I would avoid it unless you really love a band scheduled to play there, and expect poor sound when you go. read more

As you might assume, this place is kind of grungy. But so fun!!! Came here for a sold out show and while it was really packed, it wasn't unreasonably so. Kudos for putting out a self-serve water station. Coat check was not too painful. No big lines out the door. Good sound system. I don't know. I kind of liked it. read more

A very nice medium-sized venue! The acoustics are not amazing due to a lot of open space/bare walls and metal. But...as more people gather inside, the acoustics improve. If you are a performer, the venue has everything you need in terms of stage space. Plenty of electrical outlets, an XLR snake, carpeted stage area, drum riser. The stage is well-elevated. The backstage area is pretty large as well to chill out and relax before/after the show with a fridge, restroom, chairs. As a musician, I was treated with respect and will definitely want to come back and play here in the future. read more

Purchased 4 tickets to the Harry Potter Fest for over $200.00 mind you. Bought costumes, got dressed up, drove from NH to get there, drove around for 15 minutes looking for parking, then walked 10 to get to the venue. NONE of these things were unexpected or bothersome. That's what you get when you visit that area. What was unexpected is that we were turned away at the door! We were not allowed in because we didn't have our Covid-19 vaccination cards. We are rule followers, if we had been notified when we purchased the tickets, we would have been prepared!! On the tickets it said: Additional event info: "Must have valid ID at 21+ events" That is all it said. Now I've completely lost the money spent. read more

I am writing this review to warn future concert goers of the surprises that lie in wait! If only I'd known (or my pre-show Google search had been more fruitful.) It would be great to have known ahead of time that (1) despite the "25% off a meal with ticket" there is no food available on-site; and (2) that there is no beer, wine, or liquor available. I did try to google this ahead of time but wow, this information should be way clearer and stated on their website. Plus I was also not into waiting 20 min in line after arriving 15 minutes after doors are already open! The show I went to had "seats," by which I mean folding chairs that were way too scarce for the number of attendees. I ended up feeling pretty cheated for the ticket price I paid and very, very hungry. Ultimately, Sonia delivers on being a large room with a stage, but that's not enough to set a venue apart from the pack -- or even solidly within the pack. read more

Saw Now, Now at Sonia on 7/11. Was really excited, since I loved TT the Bears. New venue is very clean, very stale, and very un-chill. Doors were at 7 p.m., so I planned to get there around 9 p.m. to see the headliner. Happened to walk by after dinner at around 8:30, and was lucky I did - there was a huge line. Walked up to the line and asked the doorman where I go to pick up willcall tickets, only to hear everyone in line, in unison, say, "We all have tickets." ...What? I got in line, then I got a little sassy. WHY did we have to stand in line to enter a show we had tickets for that started an hour and a half ago? By the time I got to the front of the line, I heard the headliner start. Are you kidding me?! The other few people in line were incredulous too; they were treating this concert like it was a club, holding back people then nodding to let only a certain number inside. Meanwhile we all had paid tickets. When the doorman finally let us in, it was 8:55, and the band had started at 8:45. I went in, and a man put a wristband on me, and DID NOT CHECK ANY LIST OR DATABASE TO SEE IF I HAD PURCHASED A TICKET. Couldn't believe it. So that's why I had to stand in line. They weren't actually checking for tickets; just letting anyone in. They must have creeped up on capacity, and then I almost didn't get to see the show I bought a ticket for. On top of all this, they don't have a liquor license yet. Not a huge deal since Boston liquor licenses suck, but at least send an email ahead of time to let people know. Also, send an email to say that unlike any rock concert before it in all time, this show would be starting promptly at 7 p.m. TLDR: Bought a ticket in advance, was forced to stand in line as if I hadn't, missed 10 min of the show, and never saw the actual ticket. Attended the BITERS concert on 05/28 with a couple of friends. Parking: Parking for the Middle East/Sonia!/Zuzu etc. is a bit of a gamble. If you're in a hurry, and money's no trouble, there's a parking garage a stone's throw from these venues. If you wanna save some dough, parking street-side is possible, but could take 20 minutes to find. There's quite a few one-way streets in the area, lots of "permit parking only" signs. Keep an eye out and do loops. You might get lucky. Venue: Sonia! is brand spankin' new. I was invited to their opening night 3/21, but had to miss out. The space is pretty phenomenal with high ceilings, ample bar space, an elevated stage with lighting equipment. Unfortunately, at the time I attended the concert, they had not yet received their liquor license. Yep, it was like being at Chuck-E-Cheese: they had snacks and sodas, but no booze. Now, I understand these things take some time, and I don't hold it against Sonia! et al. that the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is taking their sweet ass time issuing the go-ahead; however! I wish I would have known *ahead of time* (via email) so that I could have pre-gamed. Yes, I still do that. Sound: They've got all the equipment for a great show, minus a few key elements. If you're standing right at the stage there is absolutely zero chance that you'll hear the music properly. What you will hear is whatever band member you're standing in front of and their monitor. I hope that they adjust the speakers, or invest in a few on stage, pointing out towards the crowd, so that the biggest fans-- those standing right in front-- also get to enjoy the best sound. For now, standing toward the middle or back of the room will ensure you hear the performance as it's meant to sound. Staff: Limited interaction with the staff, as there was no need to hit up the bar. Staff at the door was cordial and polite. No bag check or pat down, although I only had a very small purse. I'll be back to Sonia! more than once, I'm sure. I'm a big fan of all the Middle East doings (Cambridge, not talking about war, here), and will support all their ventures. In the meantime, let the powers that be hurry the hell up and give them their liquor license! read more

Small concerts can be fun but the sound isn't great. Beer was also a bit flat though I still had a good time.

Phil is the greatest bartender. Knows how to make yoir drink correctly, is very kind and sweet. This is my favorite venue to come to dot edm as well. But for real if you want a drink go to Phil. read more

If you want to wait in long lines and be treated rude, then you should go there. I went here for the first time and waited forever to get in because there was no organization with letting people in. There was no order to the coat check and had to wait 20 minutes for that. I then waited another 20 minutes to get a drink and it was the worst drink I've ever been served. I asked the bartender to redo it and he said no. I've never had a bartender refuse to do a drink over especially when I sat right there and took a sip. I wanted to hate this venue since I loved TT the Bear's so much (TT's was the rock club that used to be in this location). But this place is set up great for shows. The bar is over to the left when you walk in, but still has sight lines to the stage. It's far enough away so that people that want to hang out and drink at the bar all night won't bother the rest of the crowd there to see the show. Area in front of the stage is set up great with tons of room. Plus, the bathroom had more than 1 stall, more than 1 urinal, and I didn't have to wade through an inch of mystery bathroom liquid on the floor, so I suppose it is an improvement on TT's. The venue has an amazing setup and the lights and sound are awesome.... impactparties .com had an event there, and the only problem is that the staff (particularly the manager) seemed to care more about getting out his anger about personal issues (by harassing 1 out of every 5 people who came to our party) then about making the party actually be fun and lit so people can enjoy themselves.... I do not mean any disrespect but I must be honest in my review. 400 of us got tickets and came to have a party and afterwards 80 of our people reported to us that the staff either pushed them for no reason or kicked them out for no reason. I promise you guys, if you get better management they will raise the value of the venue really quickly and it will start to cost as much as it's neighboring venue "LA FABRICA" which has the same capacity but costs 5 times more money to book.
