Great stop between Houston and Dallas! This restaurant has a welcoming, small town feeling, where everyone knows everyone and it is so friendly! Everything on the menu looked appetizing, and I found myself asking for more time to make my final decisions. I was between the au jus sandwich, the Philly cheese steak, and the mushroom burger, all three under $6.50 or less for dinner! I finally went with the mushroom burger with a side of sweet potato fries, my boyfriend got the Reuben. Everything was fantastic! Copious cheese and good feeling to satisfy anyone's hunger. The Reuben was so good I couldn't help but take several bites of my boyfriend's sandwich. Service here was so friendly. We accidentally spilled a full cup of water on the table and the waitress was quick and so friendly in helping us clean up. Overall, with the delicious food, low prices, and great service I see myself making this a regular pit stop when I'm traveling between Houston and Dallas. We found ourselves hungry on the strangely void-of-good-food-and-things-to-see drive from Houston to Dallas. Enter Yelp. This place only had one review, but we took a chance and well, thanks, Yelp! It would be easy to miss this place if you weren't looking. It's tucked in a gas station parking lot right at the junction of the 45 and highway 84, and from the outside it's not all that inviting at all. Once inside though, something changes. This place is very no-frills, so don't go expecting white linens or anything like that. But do go expecting very friendly people and some great Texas cooking! We had a French dip and fries and a fajita chicken salad with chips and salsa. Both were excellent! The menu is extensive (several pages) and they have lots of tasty sounding dishes, and VERY reasonably priced! Next time I'll try the catfish plate, or maybe the buffalo chicken fries, or a burger, or the chicken fried steak... If you find yourself hungry in the void between Dallas and Houston, give this place a shot! You won't be disappointed. read more

If you are looking for a place to pull off the highway and have a meal that is made with care and love then this is a great place to stop. It is definitely a diner in every since of the word, serving up great breakfasts and sandwiches. You can tell that you walked into the place where the locals come to eat when you walk in the door. Every body know the other people and the wait staff are connected to them because they are regulars. We had two different sandwiches and they were hot and delicious. We were in and out of there in a very reasonable amount of time so it did not add too much time to our drive. One of the best places to stop on the drive between Dallas and Houston. read more

Stopped here for a quick lunch with my family on our way to the coast. Reviews seemed promising and we love hole in the wall places as opposed to chain restaurants so we gave it a try. Things got off to a great start. Friendly and fast waitresses, good sized menu with lots of options for everyone. The five of us ordered and waited for our food. It came out in good time and was hot and cooked to order. As soon as our waitress started to put my plate down I noticed a very long black hair across my French fries and onto one side of my chicken sandwich. I said "ummm, I'll send this back" and she saw the hair and said "ohhh, yeah let me take that back for you". It happens, I suppose but it was definitely noticeable off the bat and the waitress should have seen it before she brought us our food. She could have pulled it off before she brought it out and I'd have been none the wiser. Instead, she took my plate back to the kitchen only when I asked her to and she or. someone else in the kitchen took the hair off, and brought me the same plate of food maybe 1.5 minutes later. Definitely not long enough to have been remade. No apology. No discount. Nothing. I didn't want to cause a scene so I pulled the sandwich apart and ate 1/4 of the chicken breast from the opposite side of the plate and didn't touch anything else on my plate. Super annoying and not service minded in my opinion. Like I said, I know these things happen but it definitely was not handled in the way I felt it should have been. We stopped here in the early afternoon and seated ourselves at the encouragement of a couple servers. Our service was quick and friendly. As others have commented, there is a fairly large menu. We got the Patty melt, the Buffalo Joe, and the chicken salad. At under $6 each, there was great value and the portion sizes were fairly large. While we ate, we smelled the desserts cooking and they smelled tempting. However, we didn't order any. What you think of this place has a lot to do with your expectations coming in. If you are seeking a gourmet meal, you are likely to be disappointed. But if you are looking for a diverse quality alternative to fast food, you will find it more than worth the stop. read more

Good comfort food. Worth the tiny hike off 45 for freshly prepared yummy diner food! I had the Buffalo Joe, a buffalo chicken sandwich with blue cheese dressing, tomatoes, lettuce, red onion, mustard. Seriously tasty and ENORMOUS. Huge dessert selection - 9 types of pie, several types of cake. I got coconut, my favorite diner pie - excellent. Texture was great, not overpoweringly coconutty, and meringue was well executed. This little place is right off the road and was a great quick stop between Houston and Dallas. We enjoyed our Turkey Swirl and cheeseburger. We split an order of onion rings and they were fabulous! I'm giving this place 5 stars because I walked in with zero expectations of something actually different and walked out a different woman. I only got dessert- I honestly had no idea which one to get so I asked the server for help. She looked at my face and said "I think you want a cloud 9". And after tasting it, she was right. I did want a Cloud Nine. It was vanilla cake, whip cream and a toffee syrup put together into beautiful mountain of delicious. I also had the coffee which was pretty much good diner coffee. Driving from Houston to Dallas, we didn't want the usual Sam's in Fairfield. So I looked at the reviews for "something different" and it sounded intriguing. It's right off the highway. We stopped in, it is a small place but very friendly and clean. They have a lunch special today it was the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. We are from Texas so we know our chicken fried steak. The steak was as big as your face and crispy and crunchy, and not gristly like some are. Although we did not try The deserts cakes, pies, cheesecakes, cupcakes they look out of this world. A lady was at the counter to pick up a entire cake. She said they were fabulous. I think the reason this is "different" is because it's a small-town diner that doesn't make their own food. The hush puppies were frozen cylinders that they dropped in the frier, the fries are tasteless, the cocktail sauce come out in a congealed mass, and the catfish was mediocre at best.
