Smallcakes Longview - Inspo pic given to Smallcakes told double layer was not necessary and single layer would "look just like this one." Notice the edges.

It was so important to me that the gender reveal cake be prefect that I went in person to Smallcakes, 5 days before I needed the cake, instead of just calling the order in. I took an inspo picture so there would be no "guess work" and the baker would have a constant imagine to refer to. After guarding this gender reveal, I was ecstatic to pick up the centerpiece of the entire reveal: THE CAKE! A photographer was hired to capture these precious seconds all eyes were going to be on the cake. The family had eagerly been waiting, and most importantly, the parents-to-be had spent weeks anticipating a glimpse of blue or pink. I was devastated when I saw the Smallcakes gender reveal cake; it was a fraction of the size! It was the size of my hand! I felt frustrated not because the representative was unable to offer a suitable solution so close to the reveal but because I was not heard or validated, had to pay $40 for a cake I couldn't use, and had to come up with another cake immediately so the entire gender reveal was not completely ruined! I work in customer service every single day; I work with the public and with brides. I may not always agree, but I ensure complete satisfaction and would gladly compensate a customer if warranted. In this case, I placed the order 5 days in advance, provided an inspo pic, and was assured that I didn't need a double layer because it would be as "big" as in the inspo pic. I still had to pay full price for a cake I couldn't use, had to go to multiple stores until I found a cake I could make work. I then had to scramble home, completely redo a cake, and make it into a presentable gender reveal cake prior to the parents-to-be arrival. This was a very stressful situation, nearly ruined by Smallcakes. A simple courtesy phone call is the only step needed if the baker was confused by the Smallcakes representative set when I was in the store. 1st pic is inspo pic baker had to refer to and assured that single layer would look "just like inspo pic." 2nd pic is actually cake that was quarter of size and size of my hand. The cake was the main event! 3rd pic is $130+ later going to different stores to find the right cake, icing, flowers, scraping of the top, piping and reicing and placing flowers. All could have been avoided if baker would have called. You can see from the plating the first 2 are on they are not the same size.

When I picked it up, it did not look like my inspiration pictures. There were purple flowers on the sides with pink one (no purple in the inspiration pic), no pearls, no vintage lattice work-just pipped the flowers on the sides with green stems (no stems in the pic) and the top writing. I was disappointed. I asked them to include blue flowers to balance out that it felt a little too girly, and they went back and added them which made it look better. I am not sure if the inspo pics got lost in the shuffle or if too much creative lee-way was taken but either way, I felt a little let down but was not going to let it ruin my day. However, on the drive home I still felt like it was pretty, but just not what I had in mind. I decided to call Bittersweet which is local to us and ask if they could add a few elements like the lattice and pearls. Faith was so kind on the phone and told me to bring it in being also clear that they aren't gluten free. I understood, but since we don't have true allergies I told her I was comfortable with them fixing it. It would not medically harm anyone if there was cross contamination. When I got there I showed her the original picture and sent it to her personal phone. Later I went to pick it up after taking my little to lunch, it came out it and was FANTASTIC! They added all the elements it was missing that I wanted and loved. It still doesn't exactly match my pictures but it looks SO cute now and I am very very happy! When I went to pay, she told me to just go enjoy my cake and that they were happy to help. THIS is how you win business, friends!! ANYTIME, I am ordering goodies, back to school treats for teachers, holiday yummies or cakes that aren't for my GF kids, I will be getting them from Bittersweet!!!! Thank you, Faith!!!

We've wanted to visit the Magnolia Silos in Waco for a while now and so happy for the chance. The drive to Waco was just under 2 hours from Austin. We stopped at this cute & quaint bakery after visiting the Silos & before heading back to Austin. There is a charming area to the side of the building with several tables covered by umbrellas & surrounded by potted plants. It was too hot to sit outside! The interior is small but nicely decorated. There was a line but it moved rather quickly. The young lady behind the counter was sweet & helpful. We ordered a chocolate cupcake & a lemon lavender cupcake to go. It was packaged in their signature container. The cupcakes were both so good but the Lemon Lavender was a favorite! Both were very moist & flavorful. We wished we had ordered more!

Since Magnolia is such a brand, they could easily get away with fairly middling goods, but it's nice to know that whomever is in charge of desserts is a Type A kind of person who shall not abide crummy treats. My giant cupcake was the kind of good where I kept nibbling from it all day long, and the next day, I was sad that I hadn't bought another. The friend I was with had gotten a cupcake, and even though she isn't usually into cupcakes, she said this convinced her otherwise.
