Not only do they make great coffees, they have sandwiches, ice creams and DONUTS! We were camping next door and walked up. The owner came out to greet us. This being the off-season, it was rather easy for him to do so. After taking our orders for coffees, a maple bar and apple fritter, he invited us to enjoy some cornhole they have set up there on the premises. They also have a few picnic tables to sit at as well. Within a few moments our items were ready. The coffee was great; just enough flavoring without being sickly sweet. The pastries were exceptionally good, too. I don't know if they make them or bring them from elsewhere but, with a nice latte and stunning views of Lake Roosevelt, you can't go wrong. As mentioned, service is top drawer and prices are decent. We may have to stop by here more often as we head down the highway to town.

Additional stools for window seating are also available. Separately, there is a large room in back that has a couple of very large tables and loads of chairs. I'm guessing that room can handles groups of 40+. Choices here include pizza , wings, and a couple of wraps for the main meal. They also have several flavors of ice cream available as well as fancy coffee drinks. The girl working the counter was friendly and the place seems to be kept clean. Cool decor with a 1894 map of the town covering an entire wall. I look forward to coming back to try out a pizza. The area surrounding Grand Coulee is parched for water, with hills, bluffs, and plains covered with dry yellow grass. Yet, the Grand Coulee dam, holding back the Columbia River has created a massive lake, that appeared to be underutilized for recreation. I think I only saw one boat on the lake at the time we drove through. The town of Grand Coulee didn't seem to have many tourist dollars running through it, but Voltage Coffee was making its claim as the best coffee in town. Sometimes you want to stop for coffee at a walk-in storefront, instead of sitting in your car waiting for the closet sized expresso shops to churn out lattes. Voltage has nice seating areas indoors and out. We relaxed outside and took in views of the town. As we were sipping our coffee, a deer walked down the alley, stared at us for a moment, then continued moving on. There appeared to be so little activity in town at that time of day that the deer felt comfortable taking the shortest route to the lake for a drink. Or maybe that deer knew of a local vegetable garden in the area that wasn't adequately fenced in. If we ever drive through Grand Coulee again in the future, we will return to Voltage.
