After the session, the practitioner mentioned I had "a few blisters" and applied some ointment. Since the cupping was done on my back, I couldn't see the area myself and trusted their assessment. However, once I got home and checked, I was shocked to find that nearly every cupping mark was filled with blisters--far more than "a few." Sleeping that night was very uncomfortable, and the affected areas grew painful over time. What concerns me most is the way this was handled. Before leaving, I was asked to sign a waiver. In hindsight, it felt like the practitioner was aware of the extent of the reaction and had me sign paperwork before I realized what had happened. I understand that blistering can occasionally occur with cupping, but the lack of transparency and aftercare, along with how the situation was managed, left me very disappointed. Every time I visited, she listened to my conditions carefully, touched and diagnosed my body and identified specific problems. COST: Because it's an alternative approach this means that MSP will not cover the cost of clinic visits nor will Pharmacare cover the cost of supplements. Until this is a widely accepted form of treatment in the medical community extended insurance is the only option. THE FUTURE OF MEDICINE: Until the government includes this as part of basic medical coverage or I win the lottery (whichever comes first, really) it's not something I can continue doing. In fact, I had a great massage many years ago (I even asked the team if they could help me track her down, to no response), but I couldn't tell you who it was with. This time however, I selected to have an appointment with Jorg. He specializes in joint, posture & movement issues, and with chronic problems I have stemming from a past broken leg and multiple related surgeries, he seemed like the perfect match. Only, that hope was one way, as I got the distinct impression from the moment he walked in the room that I wasn't his "ideal" client. What followed was a 50 minute massage (in a 60 minute timeslot), zero check-ins about pressure or anything at all, and about the only words he said to me felt like a complete slap in the face.
