Connect DTLA

Connect DTLA

Downtown

I worked with ConnectDTLA and this is my experience: I was looking for a new apt DTLA, and some how…read moreConnectDTLA popped up during my search. The website looked great and it had all the buildings I was looking to move into around the area. But offering to do the search based on my preferences and budget, book the appointments, escort me to my showings and most of all, give a rebate. Sounds too good to be true right?! But I told myself, what do I have to lose. So I called ConnectDTLA, Mark picked up. He was friendly and easy to talk to. He explained the process and was ready to get to work. He collected the details of what I was looking for, and the next day, he messaged me with my appointment details. No kidding! He was very responsive and worked with my schedule. Here is the best part: we viewed 2 high rise communities (hope + flower, 825 s hill), that I told him I was interested in, but little did I know he had a surprise. He booked a third viewing at an apartment that I had written off my list. Mark said, "I booked the appointment, just take a look, if you don't like it, what do you have to loose". And I said "you're right, I have nothing to loose". We went over to the Atelier building and I fell in love!!! Well, if you reading this, you guessed it. I live in the Atelier building, which is one of the best buildings in DTLA because Mark brought me here. Now, here is the epic part! A few months later, Mark delivers a check! He was communicating with me, while I waited for the check. He is a stand up guy. This is my Honest review. If you are looking at Downtown LA apartments, work with ConnectDTLA. You have everything to gain!

I highly recommend leasing through dtla connected, they got me a great rebate offer with the 'look and lease special'. It was extremely helpful to have Mark guide my tour of the building- during Covid times/restrictions many tours are self guided. He was patient and helpful through out the entire process.

Doorstead - Unsightly repair that leaks more than before

Doorstead

(50 reviews)

I would NOT recommend renting with Doorstead. They were nice at first, but customer service…read moreregarding maintenance is horrible after signing the lease. It's been like pulling teeth every time. With multiple requests, I've been straight up ghosted by Doorstead. I think they were hoping I would just forget about it?? Which is ridiculous. If I wasn't super persistent in following up, I feel like some of them would literally never be addressed. I've tried sending emails requesting an update on a ticket for 2+ weeks and they flat out don't respond. Or I get an automated response saying the ticket is complete when it's definitely not. I have to chase them down and call the urgent phone number 3+ times before someone actually picks up and I have to insist on getting an update. They don't hold owners accountable to their responsibility to maintain the property. The owner is completely unresponsive and unwilling to spend money on necessary repairs, and Doorstead doesn't seem to follow up or care unless I continuously nag them and cite CA habitability legal requirements. At the very least, Doorstead doesn't give me any updates about communication with the owner and I'm completely in the dark unless I call over and over. After I do that, they magically have an update for me within a couple of hours. How convenient. It's maddening that I have to go to that length when I'm paying thousands of dollars every month and always pay on time. I just want a safe home that meets all the requirements it's supposed to. Apparently Doorstead doesn't really care about that, they just want their autopay. EDIT: In regards to the response Doorstead posted: -The situation is STILL not fully resolved, and certainly not in a timely manner. The repair is done but I have had a rent abatement request related to this situation pending for 9 days now with NO update other than one "we're working on it". I have followed up multiple times via email and 1x by phone. Per CA requirements, no adequate heat means the unit is not inhabitable and qualifies for rent abatement for the affected days. (Statutes that are relevant to this: California Code of Regulations, Title 25, § 34,; California Civil Code Section 1941.1; Green v. Superior Court 1974) - They did NOT offer to cover temporary relocation for me. They suggested I reach out to MY OWN renter's insurance that I pay for to see if it would be an option. I don't know why they're making it sound like Doorstead was offering that to me as a courtesy. - They did NOT maintain regular follow-ups with me. I had zero response to multiple email requests for update from 11/2 - 12/4 (13 days!) when additional repair was still needed. (posted screenshot as proof) I have to email several times to get a response or call in until someone picks up. When I call in, I have been told more than once that "the person handling this ticket is out of office". Meanwhile, that person had no out-of-office message on and no one else assigned to the ticket while they're out. If they're out, it just doesn't get addressed until whenever they come back. - For any repair, they allow the owner to bypass their approved, qualified vendors and choose his own "preferred vendor" (read: cheaper). Multiple times when using the owner's "preferred vendor" the repair ends up being done poorly and leads to more issues later that require additional visits and more of my time. Ex 1: "Preferred vendor" did not relight pilot light of furnace or test the unit --- someone else had to come back and relight it days later (more days with no heat during winter). Ex 2: Previously a water heater replacement was done by "preferred vendor"--- there was both a gas leak (dangerous!) and water leak of the unit in the weeks following.

Awful when you need maintenance. A vendor is contacted for a quote. The quote then has to be…read moreapproved by the owner. Meanwhile you wait. So far 4 days without water in the home. The plumber has made a complete mess of the repair. He has been at it for 3 days . Now the water leak which was small is BIGGER. I had a working spigot , the repair guy for whatever reason replaced that with an old cracked unusable spigot. Water now pours out from every seam of the mishmash pipes used to repair the old leak.

I'm the owner of a few houses and apartments in Eagle rock and Silver lake area. Recently I had to…read moreleave the US long term and I needed a good management company to take care of my properties (which I built and renovated myself as a General Contractor ) My properties are very close to my heart also because the freedom that they offer, it was my dream come true to own these. Unfortunately, The first Managment company which I hired was just not on top of things. During the first year out of the US I was suffering greatly hwhile working with that company , it was a fairytale dream turning into a nightmare . When I finally let them go I hired Neena and her team, letting them take over the mess. Right from the get go I felt the difference. Honesty, communication, reliability and hands on approach are just a few of the qualities Neena at Designation properties has to offer. Neena also inherited a challenging situation from the previous management company and she took it on like a pro, putting the pieces back together while giving me a chance to some true Owner peace of mind. I'm so grateful for having someone to trust with my assets, especially in my delicate situation. My actions speak louder than words, I left my most valuable properties, my life's work, in the hands of Neena and Designation Properties while permanently living 8000 miles away. I think that pretty much sums it up.

One of the best management companies I've ever come across. You typically hear about horror stories…read moreabout the lack of care from a management company when you're a tenant but not here. From Ben, Neena, Olivia and the rest of the team each person I've dealt with listen to the requests made and immediately act upon it to ensure tenants are comfortable and secure within their living quarters. I've had experiences with other management companies that won't care to follow up with requests or issues but rather blame individuals or make them live with the inconvenience and just collect their monthly rent. Great to work but even better people!!
