The tempura shishito peppers and fries was so good - perfect texture. Their homemade sauce paired perfectly. My favorite pizzas were the pistachio and potato. The pistachio was definitely the most unique, but still very palatable. The sausage was good but nothing too crazy. I did not love the chicago one - came out a little too burnt and tasted more like cheese flatbread than a pizza. The ambiance is amazing inside and I can't wait to try other dishes. Menu description really needs work. Kinako, rhubarb and strawberry had lots of mugwort, which is an Asian herb that can be pretty hard to enjoy. It also had pickled garlic scape, which I loved. None of these ingredients were showcased on the menu, especially when the mugwort consisted of most of the greens. I also did not get much Kinako flavor in the dressing. Blueberry and preserved yuzu salad... description said herb mix, but all we got was dill. I probably wouldn't have ordered this salad if this was going to be a dill salad. My mouth tasted like dill for 6 hours after the dinner. The balance of the salad was way off. Not sure if I was enjoyed a bunch of dill of a salad. Thankfully, pizza really shines through. We ordered the strawberry pizza, and really loved the sweet strawberry and lovely Fresno chili. It was a great hot and sweet combo. Service was a little slow - but seemed bit understaffed at the time I visited. Great ambiance and would visit again, but overall pretty disappointed with the salads that we ordered. Came here on a Wednesday evening with friends to check out the pizza buddy promotion. The deal is buy 2 slices with a partner and one is free, and with the quality of the pizza, it's a steal! We ordered the sausage slices, the pickled fennel with the ricotta brightens up each bite. We also got 2 slices of the spring pie, the flavors of the cream of spinach, leaks, crème fraiche, and lemon juice blend well together. Thin crispy crust, but firm enough to support the toppings, there's little to no flop! The crumb was airy and bread like. Solimar serves up artisan style pizzas, which are well thought out and intentional. Our friend Lex discovered this place on IG and we decided we would check it out before a double date night for a movie. It was a Saturday evening and apparently it's best if you have reservations. There were plenty of seats open when we arrived and the vibe given from the host was as if she didn't want to seat us. Once we were seated, others seated after us were asked what they wanted to drink and had the opportunity to order an appetizer. I'm not sure what this was about but we eventually were acknowledged and were able to place our drink and food order. The best thing I got was a cocktail for $9 which contained Mexican coke and red wine. It was delicious! Our table was not impressed with the price for the fries and asparagus. We also didn't care for the pickle plate. The pizza was good. The carrots and polenta plate I got seemed overpriced. There was parking out front and this place was easy to get to. No one ordered food outside but between the indoor and outdoor seating, there's plenty of spots to enjoy a decent meal and beautiful ambiance. With a friend in town visiting, I decided it would be the perfect opportunity to come try Solimar. We came for dinner on a Thursday night and I had made a reservation beforehand because I had heard mixed reviews as to whether or not one would be needed. When we arrived, we were the only people in the restaurant, but by the time we left, it was fairly full, so take that as you may. We decided to share an order of the shishito peppers and fries. The shishito peppers were tempura style and served with a mountain of crispy golden french fries. The dipping sauce was delicious. My only qualm is that I honestly wish there were more shishito peppers and less of the french fries (I never thought I'd hear myself say that!). We also shared an order of the spicy cucumber salad. It had the perfect level of spice and a great balance of flavor with that wonderful cucumber crunch. For our pizza, we shared a classic Margherita pizza. The dough and crust had the perfect chew to it, and the sauce was rich and flavorful. All in all this is a nice addition to the Oak Park area, and definitely a place I would come again. read more

Shortly after moving to Sac, I had learned first-hand that Sac has strong pizza game! My first job being at a small, local pizza place helped cement my decision to try all the great pizza that the Greater Sacramento area has to offer. Solimar is definitely one of the few talked about vying for that #1 spot! Solimar's crust and airiness is what I dream of when I crave PIZZA. This was my second outing here, and unfortunately the crust came out a little too char char imo. Didn't care, still ate it haha It was my first time trying their take on the Chicago tavern-style and it was decent, but again a bit too much char. The menu description says burnt cheese but this was a bit much. Also I would've like a little more rise on the crust. I've lived in Chicago and have a strong love for both deep dish and tavern-style. I was so excited to try the newest gem in Oak Park by the talented team behind Faria Bakery. Their slow pizza is made with fresh, clean ingredients and a fluffy-yet-thin crust that screams farm to fork! Truly appreciate how fresh all ingredients are. They add a unique twist to their whole pizza by giving you scissors to cut your pizza slices however you like. However if you're craving a greasy traditional pizza this might not be your spot. I wanted to try their Chicago tavern but was sold out on a Friday night. The vibes here are perfect for a cozy date night. Think dim lighting, candles on every table, and a menu full of delicious bites. It's simple, romantic, and totally worth a visit. The Solimar Dessert was a showstopper in presentation, with great icing and flavor, but the cake itself was a tad dry for my taste. The restaurant interior is super cute and well decorated, and their outdoor seating is spacious and so nice on a warm summer evening. The workers there and at faria are very kind and attentive. Everything we tried there hit it out of the park in terms of flavor, creativity, and freshness. Our server was awesome. She explained the menu and was attentive to our needs throughout the evening. My understanding is that Faria opened this pizza restaurant, thus I had high hopes for this place (and it certainly is an improvement to the mediocre pizza place here before it). Solimar really shines in it's farm to table style pizzas with fresh and interesting ingredients. Very nice interior though some areas like the bathroom are far from finished. I hope it does well as I am a big fan of revitalizing Oak Park. Nonetheless, areas for improvement include it's not-good-at-all Chicago "Tavern" style pizza. It was burnt a decent amount and, even if not burned, was not much like true Chicago Tavern style at all (I am a born and raised Chicagoan). The cake dessert was also on the dryer side. I have been a longtime Faria Bakery Lover (i honestly think it is the best bakery in town) SO I WAS SO EXCITED TO WHEN I FOUND OUT ABOUT SOLIMAR! Solimar did not disappoint my very very high expectations! I love the indoor/ outdoor seating options because both are very comfortable for smaller or larger groups. We had nonalcoholic drink: the fizzy lemonade and Mexican Sprite (the liquor license is coming soon!) For mains, we got three pizzas: Carnitas Pizza, Potato Corn Pepper Pizza, and Fig Pizza! The Carnitas Pizza was my favorite because of the fried beans on top with the chili oil butter. All of the pizzas have an amazing crust (I think they use a version of their miso sourdough base)! Pizza replacing pizza... Okay, true, but not true too. This was previously a fast casual pizza spot, not it is a vibey pizza spot. I love the updated décor and vibe Solimar is offering to the Oak Park area. We showed up without a reservation, which I probably wouldn't recommend just yet, but it worked out since it was a Saturday at 5 PM. Between the three of us, we shared a small plate and two pizzas. Smaller Plate - Fried Squash & Whipped Ricotta: We wished the squash was a little warmer, but overall, the blend of flavors and textures was really good. We absolutely loved the ricotta and garlic citrus shoyu, and saved it to dip our pizza crust in it. They tried to take the plate multiple times and we had to ask them to leave it HAHAH Little Cesar's Pizza - Texture was a thing for us with this pizza. I had really high hopes for this pizza and it came out flat for all of us. The texture was off, we think it was the eggs or maybe the leek sauce, we are unsure. The pickled daikon really didn't add much to this. Bianco Pizza - We all loved this pizza! The blend of cheese and winter greens on top was really refreshing and complimented one another. The pizzas are served with scissors so you can cut your pizza in you preferred size of slices. We enjoyed this and it added a little fun to the pizza experience. I was very interested in the Yuzu Tart dessert, but they were out of it and hadn't updated their menu yet. But a new dessert will be introduced soon... As for service, just like anywhere, some were kind and some were just 'blah.' We had multiple people come to our table to check on us and help us out. It was a fluid experience, but one gal was just not super friendly. Everyone can have a bad day, so I didn't take it too personally. But you could tell the difference between servers. I've heard this new spot is brought to us by the Faria folks, which I'm happy to see them expanding and securing a sit down restaurant. I'll happily come back to try more. We ordered a few appetizers to share, including the Chicago pizza, fried squash, and bread and butter. So so tasty, and we were impressed down to the butter served with the bread. I came here last week with my friends Thalia and Gary and I enjoyed the experience so I wanted to come back with my mom to see if I would have the same experience with service, food etc. The inside of the restaurant is lovely, from the decor to furniture and dish ware. Very clean and modern. We had the sausage pizza, blistered carrots and fries with asparagus tempura- all which were great. The food came out quite fast despite the restaurant being busy. I love that Faria and Solimar use ingredients from local businesses. Service wise- I'll have to come back to get a real feel on the attentiveness. I'm still trying to understand the flow of the restaurant- from my experience the host sat us, took our order and dropped off one dish and then the runners brought us the rest of our food and were kind enough to ask if everything was tasting good and/or if we needed anything. I was very upset when Slim and Husky's closed down so out of spite avoided coming here.. until I kept hearing great things about Solimar. Came early on Saturday night and was surprised to get a great seat with no waiting. The menu options were exciting! Very different from your regular pizza joint. Tried their Pickle Plate and a salad (sorry, can't remember which one). Just the crackers alone on the Pickle Plate were so different and intriguing. And I really liked the salad which says a lot. One thing I really liked is that you can order slices of pizza or a whole pie. We opted for four different slices and the only one that I found was just meh was the plain cheese. The decor inside is really nice. Slim and Husky's always felt a bit cramped by the cashier area but now it's opened up a lot. Plenty of room and thankfully the tables are spaced out well. Finally... I shouldn't say this, but the value was really good for what we got. I had no qualms about forking over some dough as the meal was well worth it. Service was very great as well. My wife and I were Christmas shopping and decided we needed food before we kept slugging along. Our attention was immediately grabbed by the ambience we could see from outside - it's such a CUTE spot. It was a Friday night and there was a small line but we immediately took a spot at the bar and were helped upright away. We each got a glass of white wine -- both options were delicious! Finally a place without bland, sweet white wine! We grabbed the Chicago Tavern Pizza, pickle plate and the panzanella. The pizza was super crispy, the cheese was perfectly crisped and not overly burnt and it was a decent size. The pickles were amazing and honestly my only complaint is that the serving size isn't huge. The panzanella salad had a great vinaigrette and the persimmons were the right amount of soft. Overall I wasn't expecting this place to be this good but after finding out it is owned by the folks at Faria I'm not surprised. We will definitely bring the family back next time. One of the best salads I've ever had. I wish I can remember what it was called but it was on the menu a few months ago. Love that they change the menu and serve seasonal things, including herbs and flowers fr their garden! Also one of the best pizza dough I've had. I had been looking for months for the best slice in Sac, and thanks to Solimar I finally found it. Not often do you enjoy the crust bit as much as you do right in the middle, but that is just one reason Solimar shines. We were excited to try Solimar because we love Faria Bakery and had high hopes but our experience was not great from the moment we walked in. First, there was confusion about seating. There was a line and no one there to greet us or inform us which led to a wait of about 30 minutes. The staff was overwhelmed and seemed confused. Other customers seemed frustrated by the lack of communication and attention. If we had had a better experience overall, the wait would not be a big deal since the restaurant is fairly new. Second, there was no diet non-alcoholic options on the drinks menu, and we were stuck with just water. Lots of wine options and some mocktails but all looked sugary. Third, one main pick for our table, the Chicago Tavern Pizza, was not available. Fourth, you could not get salad dressing on the side and the Ceasar was absolutely saturated (and was made with butter lettuce and not romaine) and was tasteless. The green salad was better but it was still saturated and very sweet. We did tell our server about the dissatisfaction with the Ceasar but did not get much of a response. Fifth, the slices ordered by our dining companions came out at the same time as our salads, then we waited a long time for the sausage pizza to arrive. Sixth, the sausage pizza (and I assume others) comes with scissors to cut at the table. The problem was, that the pizza was so heavy and goey the topping fell off and the scissors were ineffective. A spatula was needed. While there were some good flavors, the sausage was underdone and it was a neavy and overwhelming. Plus, dirty dishes were left in the table, and we were left with no utensils to negotiate a runny pizza. We are from Chicago and NYC and know great pizza with a variety of crusts and price points. We completely understand the restaurant is getting its legs and the team is finding their groove. It the pizza and salad was good, we would have overlooked everything else. This is a very nice place, nicely decorated and I love the candles that they put out in the evening. The service started out as ok, but fortunately progressed to better throughout the evening. While they seem to be known for their pizza that you can cut with scissors for the size you want, we ordered lasagna, the pickled appetizer and a slice of the pistachio rosemary pizza. I didn't like the pizza slice that much as it was smaller than what I had thought it would be and didn't like the taste and crust that much, but the lasagna was very good, big enough portion to share unless you are really hungry. Their pickled appetizer also came with really good crackers with all kinds of seeds. Reservations are recommended, as we went on a weekend and it was getting pretty crowded in the evening while we were leaving. Our party of 5 couldn't resist trying the Sausage, Confit Tomato, & Ricotta Pizza made with Beyond Meat Sausage and the Cheese Pizza as we had several vegetarian's in the group. The pizza arrived steaming hot with a pair of scissors so we could cut our own slices. Speaking of slices you can also order the pizza by the slice. Which is a great option if you can't decide which pizza to order. The glorious medley of house-made tomato confit, and creamy ricotta made for an unexpected but delightful twist on the classic "cheese and sausage pizza". Each bite was a perfect balance of savory and sweet, with the naturally leavened dough achieving a crust that had an ideal airy and chewy texture. Best new spot in Sacramento for a long time. Good thing it has limited hours or else I'd be there way too often.

We impulsively went to Solimar last night, two families with little kids. It's in walking distance, we are obsessed with Faria and have been wanting to check it out. The patio is kid friendly and pet friendly which we appreciated. I wouldn't take my kids to dine inside though, this is a really nice restaurant delivering an elevated dining experience. The interior design is beautiful, they off an simple but incredible curated menu. I thought this was going to be just pizza, ok well not JUST pizza, it's Faria so the pizzas are amazing. I knew I would love the pizza but I will go back for the rest of the menu, it is next level. The heirloom beans with burrata was a favorite. The beef bolognese lasagna, savory deliciousness. The winter citrus bruschetta... whaaaat, fresh, bright, so good. Even if you get a pizza still order the bread and butter. I ate it last because I thought, meh, I'm ok if I don't try that and leave room for everything else. The bread and butter is ridiculous. I wanted to give a shout out to Natalie and Gersam (spelling?) we required some flexibility with dining inside/outside because of our kids. Little kids, in general, can be annoying at restaurants and the vibe of this place is so lovely. When I saw the linen napkins I knew we would have to keep the chaos on the patio.
