They did a fantastic job exactly the shades and type I specified ( 20% all around 5% strip across the front) looks like a whole new car. Would highly recommend read more

wow i didn't all the bad review. i known of james (the owner) for about 20 years now. we aren't best friends but he did tinting and stereo work for my brother and friends a lot through out those years and he always done quality work. he recently tinted my windows and windshield and the work was done at a good price, on time, and perfectly. he's always been cool to me but maybe it's because i'm not an azzhole. he probably won't kiss all the negative reviewers azzes and to spoiled people that warrants bad reviews. i'm gonna have him put in a stereo for me too. maybe you all need a good hard look in the mirror and ask "am i the problem person?" before you go online and bash a mans livelihood. read more

Cody has fit me in twice now in a pinch. Once I had to leave an inspection and went there so he could lift the tints in my windows and made it back in time to finish the inspection. He went over and above and I'll never forget it. He's totally professional and explains everything well. The prices are quite fair. I recommend them to everyone read more

Being from Cleveland I did a little bit of research before getting my tent I actually knocked on a policeman's window and asked him about getting tent and he did say of course that it was illegal here in the state of New York. But as long as we weren't doing anything too much to get noticed or it wasn't too dark then it's still up to the discretion of the police if he wants to be mean and gv us a ticket but with that information I went and looked for a tinting place a lot of people did say solar shades was good I went to them at the last minute in the middle of the corona crisis and they took good swift care of me my tent I wanted to be a little darker than I thought it would be but it turned out well especially considering the rain for the next two days it looks great professional and so far I am very happy with it and would recommend them plus they're cheaper than everybody else. read more

Solar Shades Window Tinting - My happily tinted car - Auto Glass Services Near Me - Poughkeepsie, New York

Took my Subaru to have windows tinted. They did a awesome job! Very happy. I don't understand the reviews about being rude(?). I didn't find them rude at all. Some people aren't peoply & all chatty and that's ok, what mattered was that a job was done professionally and that they got covered 100%. I would definitely go back! I'd be more skeptical of places all glammed & creating a Façade as it's about the job done not what a place looks like or if they are all smiley & bubbly. Thank you James & his employee fir a awesome job read more

Amazing work! Completed in a timely fashion. I was extremely satisfied and I highly recommend the guys at Solar Shades!!

James is extremely unprofessional and just has a piss-poor personality altogether. When I called to cancel my appointment after he rescheduled me twice he began mocking the car I drive, making racial slurs and threatening me over the phone. Absolutely hilarious how accurate the reviews on yelp are, do yourself a favor and get the work you need done elsewhere instead of coming in contact with one of the most miserable people on this planet. Maybe if he spent more of his time tinting cars and doing his job instead of calling people to argue, be racist and threatening, maybe he'd be able to fit more cars in a day, make more money and not be a miserable douche bag. Funny guy! read more

WARNING: RUDE. I've heard from numerous people the guy at Solar Shades in Poughkeepsie, NY is rude/cold. There's even reviews on Yelp stating he's miserable. I should have listened. Against my better judgement I visited to place an installation order for my company. Unfortunately, these rumors were confirmed immediately. From the moment I entered he acted as if I was bothering him. I eventually left. I took my money to another business that actually cares and has a personality. What happened to customer service and respect? read more

Great Job... I brought my Wagoneer in for a scheduled appointment to have my drivers and passenger windows tinted to match the other windows. They pulled my vehicle in immediately after I checked in and an hour later they were backing it out.. The installed tint matched the other "factory" windows perfectly. Price was very reasonable... Overall these guys get a thumbs up and I'll certainly recommend their services to anyone. A lot of others mention the owner or staff aren't too friendly, I didn't see that. They weren't all chatty Patti but I didn't go there for someone to talk to, I went there to get my windows tinted.. And they did a perfect job, that's what mattered most to me read more

The negative reviews make me laugh!! I think all the people complaining about the owners attitude ( i believe his name is James) need to give themselves a good look in the mirror. I've had all of my tints done at this location, and have always been pleased with the work and have never recieved attitude from James. I was respectful to him and he was respectful back to me. Simple as that. read more

I've already had two other vehicles tinted at Solar Shades. They have always done a great job, and after years the tint still looks stock. I just got my 3rd car done here. The guys working here were professional, courteous, quick and did a very clean job. Happy again. I would Definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to get their windows tinted. read more

Tint had bubble in it on one window. Bigger problem was the remote start was installed improperly. Called them to ask about problem and J. was extremely rude refusing to listen. If you go there note: they have NO REFUND policy on remote starts and the like. I will never go back there again or recommend this place to anyone. read more

Being "old school", character matters to me. Plus, I've been around long enough to distrust most people I don't know--and even some I do. Being in a rush, I dashed off after paying, forgetting nearly $8.00 in change. I had my seatbelt on, and was putting the car in gear, when James came running out to my car window to hand me the change. Wow! Honesty & integrity in an age of cancel culture and "grab what you can!" Impressive to say the least. So, one good deed deserves another. I'll be seeing my regular mechanic this week for an inspection, and intend to give him the name of Jame's place as a reference for his customers. The name of the window tint place my mechanic had given me never returned any of my calls. Very unprofessional. So, I hope he now replaces that referral with Solar Shades. Plus, I found James to be very patient. Not gushy, but patient. Especially in explaining the highly discriminatory and totally arbitrary rules that apply to window tint. One would think it is to keep our police officers safe. But, apparently that is not the intention. I'd venture to say that the majority of vehicles on the road are "passanger cars" if the assignment of that term met the usage of those vehicles. Yet all my neighbors who have some form of SUV or van or truck can have darker windows than I can. Why? Did some bean counter decide that criminals with something to hide--or some nefarious intention in mind, would only use a 4 door sedan? Seriously?!! Hey, I have a better idea. How about we go back to anyone raising a hand to a police officer is charged with a capital offense---and fried. That would dramatically reduce the crime and we could go back to all vehicles being free to tint their windows without some half-assed law that discriminates--- in an age where I thought discrimination was not to be tolerated. But, politics aside, I would definitely use Solar Shades again and thank James for his honesty & integrity. Traits that, sadly, are fast becoming extinct. read more

This shop has done at least 10 of my vehicles. I've never had an issue with the work he does. Prices are fair, he calls when he's finished, and even works with my scheduling a tint pull/retint for inspection. I had a dust issue one time and he offered to retint it for me. Will he win a personality contest? No, but that's not what I'm hiring him for. read more

Terrible shop with one of the most miserable owners I've ever met. Seriously this guy is so miserable it's pathetic....he really hates his life and he makes sure you the customer realize that. Was using this guy for a few years but there was always quality issues. Dirt under film, bubbles, peeking off the list goes on. He's also expensive but it's just the area....drive 30 min down and you can get the same film and have it done for 50% less. read more

Just had my Dodge Durango tinted. I dealt with Cody who explained how to match the front windows to the back. He is very detailed in his work and very meticulous. The solar shades bunch of lier there mean, over price , they told me before that the HID parts and labor is a lifetime warranty thru them, once the parts damage they want money from you what kind of life time warranty is this this is some kind of bull , the parts that they give it to you is cheap no good, I made an appointment 2 weeks before and came in in the morning expecting that they will work on my car 1st car in the morning but wen you arrive they will tell you that it is not gonna be done until in the afternoon rude people DONT TRUST this place and never recommend this to any of my friend I hope some one burn this place RUDE! Not only did the tint have several white spots aka " dust spots" and a scratch but they damaged the interior of my vehicle while doing the install and then refused to refund me the money! Solar Shades Window Tinting - Damage - Auto Glass Services Near Me - Poughkeepsie, New York

I have had 4 cars done by them and one time only I had a smooth process. One car peeled. Another there was f#%$n damage around my window frame another time took all day from 9-5 and there was spray and other residue all over my car! They didn't even take time to clean it off. They used to be the best now it's questionable. The job usually gets done nicely and evenly and they use a decently quality film but the service is iffy and they make you wait at least 3 hours to get it back. Overall I have to separate the ratings 5/10 service and care 7.5/10 for film quality 8/10 pricing 9/10 quality of work. read more

I went in for an appointment at 9:30am this morning. We went in about a month ago and they told us we had to have an appointment. When I got there this morning, even with an appointment, I was told my car really did not have an appointment and they would not be working on it at 9:30 and that they just work on them when they get to them. I asked if they could call me closer to the time when they could work on it, as I had to get to work. I was told no they are too busy and can't call to let me know when they could get to my car. This is the worst business ever! Do not let them do anythign to you car! read more

I recently had my new Audi A6 tinted by these guys. I initially went in on a Tuesday to ask about the work and I met and spoke with Joe. He explained to me how much it would cost and how long it would take. We booked an appointment for that Friday to get the car done. Fast forward to Friday, I dropped the car off in the morning and was told that it would take approx 3 hours to complete. 3-4 hours later, I got a call telling me that the car was done. As far as the job itself, the window film looks awesome. Cody, who actually did the work on my vehicle did a meticulous and detailed job in applying the tint. When I came to pick up the car, he took his time in explaining to me what to do and what not to do in order for the tint to "cure" properly. This was a good experience for me. These guys are no muss, no fuss and they turn out quality work. I would recommend them to my family and friends. Chris Carrasco read more

I just recently had my 5th personal car tinted at Solar Shades within the last few years. I must say the attention to detail and the meticulous job that has been performed each and every time is amazing. Being in the car business, I am very quick to refer my customers for anything that Solar Shades offers. Many of my customers are already aware of the great reputation Solar Shades has. I know anything they do from window tint to remote start will be installed perfectly and neatly done. Joe does an exceptional job accommodating my requests and he always makes scheduling easy. I want to give a special thanks to James. I have no idea how he can possibly do the amazing job he does. The angles of the windows in my most recent coupe seemed impossible. Yet he somehow made it look easy once again with a flawless tint job. I am very hard to please and have very high expectations. Finding a perfectionist like James has made things very easy and stress-free. I would never bring a personal car or a customer's car anywhere else. Thank you guys very much. James and Solar Shades are the best in the business. read more

We have 4 cars tinted here over the past 7 years. All were done well. You have to follow the rules and not use your defroster or open your windows during the curing process. I'm sure some other reviews were customers who could not wait to let the tint seal properly. My only "complaint" was when I had ordered floormats for my husband's new truck, they gave me different ones than what I ordered, claiming they were the same price. Fortunately, my husband was happy with them, but that's poor business to not give the customer what they specifically ordered. read more

I'm sorry I had to give them one star. They are horrible. The guy is a total asshole who talks to you like you're stupid an you know nothing. He got into a bickering match with me about tints after I just asked him a few simple questions he's sarcastic and rude. Was going to return to get another one of my cars done but he was so effing nasty I paid more to go somewhere else. Don't go here. I regret they ever got 200 of my money the first time. read more

I highly recommend this business to everyone! Over the past 2 years these guys have tinted my windows, applied a sun strip on the windshield, installed a remote starter, and just recently detailed my car inside and out. I would give NO stars if that was an option. I won an express detailing package on a local radio station to Solar Shades Poughkeepsie. When I made the appointment they told me they do a thorough vacuuming, clean the windows, blow out the vents, wash the car, etc. Well, they made it sound like the car would be immaculate and I could have done a better myself, and I have. I could not believe all the dirt they left in the cracks and cup holders and when I lifted the emergency brake you could have written your name in the dust and dirt. The car wash was not the best either. I gave them a $10 tip and was feeling guilty that I did not leave $20, until I got in the car. Also, the person who was either the owner or manager was totally disinterested in talking to me as he would not look me in the eye when we spoke and he was leaning up against the door jam scratching his back during the whole conversation. When I asked for a list of services and prices he directed me to their website. Well, their website is under construction and "Coming Soon", providing NO information. You would think if you are giving away freebies you would do your very best for repeat business. I thought maybe I was being picky, but after reading all the other reviews of this place I see that I am not. Foam and wash in Wappingers does a great job - go there for a wash and detailing is my advice. read more

Terribly poorly run operation. I ll start off with the positive though - their product is excellent. I've had 4 cars tinted by them so far and all look great even 7+ years after being tinted. As far as quality and look go they are top notch. The problem is with their service/operation. They don t book appointments like a normal place would. They book a bunch of people all for 9:30-10:00AM when they open when they can only work on 1-2 cars at a time. So the other half dozen cars just sit in the lot all day. I called and set up an appointment for 2 cars to get tinted on 2 different back to back days. Told them I had no problem getting each car there at 9:30 (which I did both days) but that I needed to pick up both cars by 2:30 each afternoon because I work nights. When I set up the appointments they said that this would not be a problem as long as I got them there when they opened. Well, it clearly WAS a problem as both cars weren't ready on time. The first day they were only a little late, maybe a half hour. When I picked up the car I reiterated the fact that the following day I needed the other car by 2:30. They looked in their appointment book and said we already have that noted, no problem. Again, it was a problem. The second day the second car wasn't ready until 4:30 in the afternoon which completely screwed up the day. To make matters worse, a friend of mine made an appointment to get his truck tinted on the same day as my second car - he made his appointment 3 days AFTER me but his truck was ready before 2:00 for pickup when he made no mention of needing it by any time in particular because he worked all day. Anyway they don t know how to book appointments properly, don't make good on promises of meeting time constraint requests of their customers, and don t follow a simple first come first serve operational concept. Like I said their product is great however, so aside from two ruined days being put in the past I'm satisfied with the cars. Solar Shades should seriously work on their service however, because I would consider going elsewhere for my next tinting needs based on these last 2 experiences. read more
