Reasonably priced and a awesome place to wash your car on your own! It is a great workout. They are equipped with a foam brush and many different sprays. The vacuum facilities are really great able to pick out dirt and stuff. Gonna keep coming back to wash my car there! BEWARE. Went there to use the vacuum. When l I pulled it all the way into my car I realized it was covered with SHIT, (which smeared into my car and on my sweater.) Disgusting... No attendant available, even though there was supposed to be one. After numerous calls, someone finally returned my call and agreed to pay for cleaning my sweater and to reimburse me for the vacuuming portion of the drive thru car wash I went to afterwards. I've walked by this place dozens of times but just noticed that they have an automatic car wash too. Car was filthy from sitting under trees (aphid poop!) and so thought I'd give it a try. You can't beat the fast $4 Splash n Dash drive thru across the street from Foster's Freeze! It always gets my Trooper squeaky clean & spot free. Today the prompts had me back up then pull forward in the midst of the wash. It was a little strange, but that is the 1st time that has occurred. I just did what I was asked & things went swimmingly. I have to drive a half an hour to get to this car wash, but it's totally worth it. It has never been on the blink. My credit card was rejected once months ago, so I just always make sure I have 4 crisp dollar bills before I go. Occasionally I treat myself to a hot fudge sundae across the street with the money I save on the wash. Remarkably all the water residue has evaporated by the time I get home. Great place to get car soaped up for $6 dollars and then spend another $3 to finish it up, seems pointless for the price it makes more sense to go to an automatic car wash and not have to do the work yourself....it will cost $10 to wash your car correctly here, and you will be soaking wet after...it's not cheaper to come here! save yourself the trouble. After I completed payment for the automatic car wash -the car wash mechanism failed to activate. I called the "800"number provided for 'Customer Service' and left a message with my contact info -as they require. I then followed up several times after that. -It's been almost 3 weeks, they never contacted me or attempted to resolve the problem. Their policy of failing to follow up to correct non- delivery of service following payment made in full speaks to an absence of forthrightness -and business integrity. A heads up -BEWARE! For $6, which is less than half of what I pay for the cheapest wash at the car wash on Oxford st., I washed and vacuum the my car. I did not get soaking wet, I did not have to wait long... First time using a self-car wash in Berkeley, and the attendant Chris was super helpful. He even helped me find my credit card in the suds after I had finished washing my car! The whole process is pretty easy to navigate, you pay for so many minutes then use the hose or brush to clean your car. But when the button to add more minutes was stuck and I was getting panicked, a gentleman (possibly the owner?) came to my assistance. He even provided me tokens so that I could finish my wash since the payment machine wasn't working properly. read more

This place is definitely a solid four star DIY car wash. It's hard to really compare a DIY place to a traditional car wash that charges north of $30, but overall this place is pretty good; I think some of the bad reviews are a bit off-base. I've used DIY places a lot in the past and compared to others, this place is really well maintained. The high pressure wash and foam brush work well, and the fact that they take credit cards is actually really surprising. Ended up spending about $10 for everything, my only complaint is that they don't have an air blade for drying, but the $1 for a heavy duty drying cloth isn't bad. Solar car wash is any customers nightmare. I went there and removed my very expensive bike rack so as NOT TO DAMAGE THEIR AUTOMATIC CAR WASH EQUIPMENT! Normally i would pull up and use the vacuum after my wash and then retrieve the bike rack which was left at the automatic car self pay booth. However I was in a hurry and decided to come another day to vacuum and therefore forgot my very expensive bike rack. I realized this in less than an hour and immediately returned. I found a "customer service person" with his head buried deeply in the trunk of his car. I asked if he worked there and he replied gruffly that he did. I then asked if he had seen a bike rack. he replied he had and that it was garbage so he through it into the dumpster. I was quite astonished because I believe any person of average intelligence would not have thought my bike rack was garbage but that someone had left it behind. They would put it aside and wait at least a couple of days for someone to retrieve it particularly since that someone would be one of their customers.He then stated that he could have just said he hadn't seen it, so he as really a good guy. He then told me if I wanted it I should climb into a filthy dumpster and retrieve it. I am a 72 year old man who had a hernia operation in the last week and have been diagnoses with malignant cancer and suffer from A-fib. I then decided to call their service line and explain what happened. I did and got a machine so I left a very clear message as to what happened but have received no return call. I then sent them a written message explaining and asking for someone in authority to contact me - they have not. So if you're the type of person who likes a company to treat not only your possessions, but you as well, like garbage then SOLAR CARWASH IS THE PLACE FOR YOU ! read more

Simple do-it-yourself car wash. It's pretty simple; put in the coins and go for it. The more experience you have with it the cheaper it is. I was able to do the whole car (Subaru Legacy Station Wagon) with 4 coins (dollars). If you want to be picky it's still way cheaper than any exhaustive car wash. The guy here was very helpful and taught me a thing or two about keeping my engine clean. Will be my standard car wash. I haven't used the vacuums, but then again I also have one at home. read more

It is absolutely impossible to wash your car in the measly 3 minutes they give you for $3. Complete scam. Received excellent service when I tried to use the carwash on a day when it was not operational. I have used the drive-through hundreds of times and have saved a boatload of money by coming here. It is rarely shut down. One day I payed before realizing it was not working. I called the number listed and received an immediate call back from the Genl. Great place to do a quick wash and not run your car through an automatic wash (which always scratches up my black Infiniti). At solar, they have a brush which expels foam bubbles to clean off all the bugs/sap/grime and a pressure washing nozzle to clean and wax car. read more

I've been here a couple times now. It's hard to find a diy car wash in this area that feels safe. I really like that there is an attendant on duty. Spent about $8 total to wash and vacuum my car. That included the $1 I spent to buy a towel to dry. I like the self-serve as I have to clean the floor mats by hosing them down. Probably the only car wash I'll use in the Berkeley area. read more

The concept is fantastic and the prices are good (if you are able to be efficient), they have a good setup for anything you may want to do. My boyfriend and I brought both of our cars and did the self washing option at the same time in two different stations. I soaped up my car with the soap brush and moved on to the rinse with the high power water... I had selected more time at least 5 times trying desperately to get the soap off my car but the water run off was still extremely soapy then my boyfriend came over to my station and said he was having the same problem and was pretty sure the high pressure water for rinsing had soap in it (scam?). He said he was giving up after spending $10 trying to rinse the soap of his car and decided rather to run it through the car wash which I decided to do as well because I could not leave with this much soap on my car. When we got home and I looked at my now dry car, I noticed tiny scratches covering the ENTIRE car! His car is gold so if it was scratched we could not see, but now my black car has horrendous scratch damage on the entire surface! I am livid!! The hubby insisted on doing his own car wash - yes, the manual labor, at $3 for 3 minutes. He claims that the automatic car wash for $3 sucks because the bristles scratch your car. Anyway, let me tell you...because he didn't want to pay more than $3 for this car wash, it was the most intense, quickest car wash I have ever seen - 1 minute for the initial rinse, 1 minute for the suds, and another minute for the rinse and wax...we didn't bring towels because we're ghetto like that (You can pay another buck to borrow their towels to dry off your car). Yup, we drove off and let the car dry off on the freeway - au naturale. Minus one star for the sucky vaccums. Minus another star for how they charge you for everything. I'm sure they don't think that people will spend only 3 minutes on a car wash (a normal person simply can't do this as quickly as us)...but 3 minutes later, and voila! a totally quick ghetto carwash. It does it's job, but don't expect perfection...for that, go to Touchless in Berkeley, where I normally go sans hubby (believe me, I'm not going to sweat and get my pants wet just to save a few dollaroos). read more

I went to this car wash this morning. I went there because it's close to where I live, and because it advertised $3 car washes, which I later learned was BS. First I found out that it wouldn't take quarters (I had brought $10 worth), only bills and credit cards. You have to exchange your cash for these silly ass tokens to wash your car. No problem, I had brought plastic. They have ONE card reader there, which only works in increments of $5 (not $3). No problem - next I had to have the service tech come over to get it to work. After trying several cards he finally got it to work using the first card I'd tried doing exactly what I had done. That got me 5 tokens, which lasted long enough to do the pre-wash, soap the car up nicely, and rinse about 1/3 of the car. I only have a small Ford Focus wagon, so it's not like I was washing a Hummer or anything. Once the rinse ran out, and with my car still essentially covered in suds, we tried to get the card reader to work again. I tried, he tried... I finally drove out with my car encased in suds and rinsed and dried it at home carrying buckets of water out to my car. If you choose to wash your car here, plan on soaking, sudsing, and rinsing your car in 3 minutes or less. And oh yeah, act like you're going to a strip club and bring nothing but ones. I have used Mister Car wash for about 3 yrs never had any issues. Sometimes the soap was diluted. But moved to Cypress and Mister car wash was not close so joined Bluewave. Never had any issues with customer service or cleaning my car. But it tore off my left side back bumper. My car in only a yr old. My co worker told me it did the same thing to his bumper and to his friends too. My husband said his bumper seems detached as well. Well it broke my clip and now I have to replace the entire bumper. My brand new car needs a $500.00 bumper. I switched to Quick Quack today and went through the wash. I have been using duck tape since this happened and every time I went through Blue wave it would tare the tape off. With Quick Quack the tape didn't budge. I also noticed that Quick Quack rotates in brushes in the opposite direction. But something is definitely not right for this to happen to 4 cars of ppl I know. read more

Today I went to this car wash. I attempted to use the drive thru. I put in my money and recieved my 1 token change (no they do not give you actual change). The car wash did not work. The machine would not give me my money. I left 2 messages on their 800 number. 2 hours later I recieve a call from the general manager saying he can send me tokens as a refund! I asked if I could just go get my wash today....No! I asked for an actual money refund....No! I asked for a phone number to speak with someone in the corporate office...No just the 800 number! This is absurd. Where else do you pay for a service that you dont get and you are told you have to wait weeks for a refund that will only be usuable at their business? Its a rip off! Not to mention they dont give you actual change when you dont spend the full amount of your bill. They give you tokens only useable at their business! read more

Had a pretty good experience here. Very straight forward with prices and what you get. Spent about 30 minutes taking my time on washing my car but a few cars were in and out because they did a quickie. Vacuums work great and my car was left shining in the, very little, sunlight.
