Overall meh. Indian take on West Indian cuisine. Fell short on the flavor profile for West Indian…read morefood being as though there were a lot of West Indian dishes. Oxtails taste sweet and needed salt and the right base for the sauce..was lacking the appropriate flavor profile. The rice tasted like basmati which is cool for Indian cuisines but usually with dishes like Oxtails or Jerk Chicken I'd expect red beans and white grain rice cooked in coconut milk for the flavor profile. Mussels are delicious, they just don't give you a lot of them if you go during any of their prefixed menu offerings. Coconut shrimp are good. Carrot cake was one of the best I've tasted in a long time. Even if your not a fan of carrot cake I think you'll enjoy. There weren't big chunks of fruit or nuts inside. It was layered, fluffy, moist, cream cheese icing spot on, just really spot on. I could have ordered a cake to go and left the food. Drinks are pricey for what you get in return. Some of the drinks are watered down, like their "Sex on the Boat." They give it to you in this cute boat shaped dish with a straw with flashing lights (photo/vid attached) but there's a ton of ice and not much alcohol or flavor. You also have to wait for your entire party before ordering appetizers. Very strange to me. Most places will allow you to order drinks and appetizers while you wait for the rest of your party. Also be mindful that there's an 18% charge for credit card. If that bothers you be prepared to bring cash. They typically will only allow you to split the check two ways so for larger parties it's best to bring cash to avoid confusion when everyone is paying for themselves.

When I say, I ran to yelp to leave this review. As you will see from my pictures, I ordered the small Curry chicken along with a small fried chicken because as a Jamaican, I like to have curry gravy with my fried chicken. what I've discovered : The food absolutely delicious , it tasted as if a Jamaican was actually cooking the food. And apparently quality taste Jamaican restaurant small in Philadelphia is a large in other places, because I got so much food I can't even finish it, but I am not complaining . Needless to say, I didn't finish it, but I plan to if I can find a microwave around here because this food is way too good to waste.

I came here with some colleagues for lunch on a weekday and it absolutely hit the spot. The interior is a nice space where you order food at the counter in the back and either take food to go or sit in the dining booths. The jerk chicken (wet-style) was expertly cooked and had great flavor. My favorite part of the dish was the amazing sides. We tried the rice & beans, plantains, and collard greens - all were fantastic, especially the plantains. The small platter size with a side is plenty of food for lunch and I'll probably be having some for dinner as well. I saw they had Mac & Cheese on the menu but looks like they've only got it on Fridays and weekends so we'll have to come back. The entire staff was very friendly and helpful. Really wonderful people.

I'm not sure if it is the same owner, but I was in the area. Wanted to try it to see if it was still as good as it was Back In The Day. Parking is street parking and it could be very hard if it's a busy day. They have an ATM machine they do not take cards so bring cash. I got the oxtails and I got a large cornmeal porridge. The oxtails were OK. I really just wasn't tasting the oxtail taste and they were kinda tender; not as tender as I would have liked them to be. Overall, I wasn't impressed. I feel like it didn't taste as good as it did Back In The Day. I did enjoy the porridge because not many Jamaican restaurants offer it outside of morning time. if I am in the area, I will go back and maybe try something else but I definitely will be getting the porridge. It was really good and sweet.

I'm happy to report, it was very very good! Some things to note: They take cash only. They have an ATM inside just in case, but make sure you have cash only you before you go. Make sure you pay attention when traveling to this establishment, as there are many intersections, one way streets, and streets that go from two to one lane. Also, there may be someone who will ask you to get them some food. Once we parked the car, we heard the reggae music coming from their front door. You can't miss it. The menu is on the wall, as well as being taped down to the counter by the order window. If they're out of something they will let you know before you order. When I went they were out of oxtail (a highly sought after dish in Caribbean cuisine). I had the jerk chicken with collard greens, white rice, and macaroni and cheese. My brother ordered the fried whiting, but I guess she didn't hear him correctly (trust me the music there is quite loud inside even though it's even louder outside), because he got the same thing I did. Now, we drove home, the car smelling amazing, and I forgot to take some photos for this review. But even so, I will definitely be back. The food was excellent, the prices were decent, and the service was fast. If you're looking for an adventure, check out Jamaican D's!

I preferred to sit outside, so I was eventually able to grab a table and a menu. It took a little while for someone to bring water and utensils. By the time they came over, I was already ready to order. I ordered the bistec encebollado and was impressed by the portion size! they give you a generous amount of steak. Unfortunately, the steak had quite a bit of fat around it, which isn't my favorite. When the food arrived, the rice was packed into a small cup, which made me think everything would be served hot. Unfortunately, none of the food was warm. Everything was room temperature and lacked flavor. Because it took a while for my meal to arrive, I got the impression that it may have been sitting out before being served. I ate it as it was because I didn't want to wait any longer. Taste-wise, the steak needed more seasoning, although the beans were good. Overall, the meal was average. After finishing, I asked for both a to-go box and the check. About 10 minutes later, the check arrived, but no box. One employee, William, really stood out. Whenever he stopped by, he was attentive, friendly, and on top of things. The jerk chicken was very undercooked. It was all red inside, once I took a bite. I almost vomited. The plantains were hard as a rock, not sweet at all. When I opened the container, it was all watery looking thing, I don't know how else to explain it, but it was more like soup that potato salad. It's like they put water, cream and tiny potatoes in a blender and blended it. The worst island food ever, and I've had many... this wasn't even worth a star that are forced on to us to give to this business. Very undeserving of this 1 star.
