I stopped in to frame a large piece and the woman working at this shop was so extremely rude. I wanted to price out options for my piece and she kept saying that it will be extraordinarily expensive, which may be the case and frankly, expected, but the way she said this was insulting and she insinuated that I wouldn't be able to pay for the service or that the project was not worth her time. She then asked me "do you want me to do all the work to design the frame and price it out if you're not even ready to buy?" I never told her I wasn't ready to buy, I actually went in hoping to leave my piece for framing. How does she expect people to decide which frame to choose without providing customers with the pricing levels, options, etc? Note that no one else was in the shop at the time and she was messing around on her phone when I walked in, so she didn't look particularly busy. I quickly decided she was not right for me and this was not the type of place to spend thousands of dollars only to be treated poorly. We thought we would give this neighborhood framer a chance, but I deeply regret even setting foot in this place. There are plenty of other options available in the area. read more

I ordered a piece of art from 1st dibs and the glass and matte were damaged in transit, and realized the painting was in worse shape than it was sold as. I brought the painting into Solana Beach Art & Frame and Carol was wonderful. She has a restoration contact that cleaned the original painting to almost perfect condition, and made suggestions on how to better showcase the artwork with a new matte. I am SO happy with how it turned out. Not the cheapest place, but high quality for sure. read more

Very good, professional service. I'm an artist and recently had a large painting framed here for a client. We are both very happy with the results! I was going to check this place out but before I did I went to culture Brewery right next door I was hangout on the patio. The lady that owns art & frames came through the back exit which is apart of culture brewerys patio.she rolled her eyes at everyone with disgust. She left her gate open, that gate leads her to the back of her store. I closed it to have room to play a game. This lady comes out with her really cute Corgi & she walks by me saying THAT'S MY GATE DON'T TOUCH IT. I told her don't be grumpy it was a beautiful day out & you should try to enjoy it. The subject of the piece -- along with the artist -- hold a special place in my heart. Carol picked up on that right away. She was so thoughtful in her suggestions and ideas for how to ensure that the frame enhanced and became an extension of the painting rather than overtaking it. I have never been treated so poorly by a company . I gave Carol, the owner, the exact terms of my needs over the phone and she was very friendly and quoted me 1 or 2 hours of work at $50. per hour. When I had my items delivered, a large framed picture I was swapping out a new canvas with and all the equipment that came with the new canvas to stretch it on a frame, to her shop she than quoted me $250 to $300. I was stunned since I had had lower quotes and had just paid a service $61. to deliver my items to her shop. When I voiced my concern she backed down to $150. Still more than her original quote. I left my items to be framed thinking I had no choice as my option would be to pay another delivery fee. She was abrasive and unfriendly. I asked if she would have any need for the equipment that came with the new canvas thinking it might make a small reduction in her price and she said no so I requested it be returned when the work was done. When the item was ready she sent me an email in all caps, as if she was screaming at me, to let me know the item was ready. When I went by to inspect and pay for the work I requested the additional equipment that came with the canvas as I had requested. She ended up dragging it out of her supplies although she had told me they would be of no use to her. When I questioned why she was being so rude to me she stated that I had questioned her pricing in front of potential clients. Hello! The item turned out okay and it cost me $150, Buyers beware!!! read more

I was recently drawn into the store by a print of three women in bathing suits, just the type of art I was looking for with a speciific spot in mind. Carol was extremely helpful and pointed out a companion piece. I took them both! Two other beach scenes on canvas also caught my eye. I was undecided over which to take and finally chose one. After taking it home, I realized that the other better suited my taste. I called Carol back a couple of days later and she happily let me make an exchange.
