They make a profile the first time you call so it's easy to schedule the next one. They even make notes about your location in case access is challenging- I still let them know I need the smallest truck just to make sure they can go into tight drive way. The compost quality could better as its more like decomposing mulch rather than ready to use high quality compost but letting it sit there for some additional time to can do the trick. read more

My garden was almost immediately blooming and harvesting. They are on the north side of Whiteman Airport and my husband got lost looking for it. I had no problems using the Yelp navigation to get there. They're located at the end of a long driveway just off of Osborne Street. We decided to select the medium bark nuggets and ordered 10 cubic yards at $74.00 per yard. Trying to figure out how much to order is a bit tricky, but they have a calculator on their website. They charged $140.00 for delivery. read more

I am so in love with this company, I am either going to marry it or at least figure out some way to need truckloads of soil and mulch regularly!! Seriously, I can be a rather picky customer. I expect excellent pricing, excellent product, and excellent customer service. Soil and Sod checks off every box! First, I needed 5 cubic yards of soil to amend my flower beds which were basically just compacted dust. Called around and Soil and Sod was by far the least expensive. They even delivered the same day!! I got the flower/vegetable mix and it was perfect. No rocks or other junk in it. Smelled so earthy. :) The next week, I needed 12 cubic yards of mulch. I ordered the cheapest- the brown shred, and it was again PERFECT and the cheapest I found anywhere! The customer service is stellar as well. So easy to call, place my order, pay for it over the phone, and schedule delivery. The guys on the line have always been so nice and helpful! And the drivers, well they are awesome as well! We just landscaped our front yard with drought tolerant landscape and DG (decomposed granite) from Soil & Sod depot. I called 5 different companies in the San Fernando Valley, and Soil & Sod had the best price for DG & delivery out of all of them. Some places were 2-3x more expensive! It pays to do your research. Since I'm local, delivery was only $50 and you can even place orders the day before or same day. The people I talked to on the phone were very helpful in helping me calculate how much material I would need. I ordered 11 cubic yards and scheduled a delivery for the next day between 10-12 pm. The delivery was right on schedule at 11 am and we have a long, narrow driveway but the delivery guy was clearly an expert and was able to unload the DG perfectly onto our driveway without getting any on our neighbors lawn. We were very happy with the level of customer service at Soil & Sod Depot and the price & product was outstanding. Highly recommend. read more

If you are in need of soil or mulch (especially mulch) this is your spot. No one in the area (or in the east valley) had much a good variety. Their salespeople are friendly. Very patient with my many questions and need for clarity. They also seem to be trustworthy and help you with what you need and do not try to sell you something you have no use for. Their office is clean and organized. Their mulch samples are in small bins indoor or in larger planters outside to give you a better idea of how it would look in larger quantity and in the sunlight. We have been using Soil and Sod Depot for 10 years and have referred numerous friends for their landscaping needs. The guys in the office and the yard are very helpful and courteous. The quality of the mulch and 50/50 flower/vegetable mix is second to NONE.....they are the best. I can fill up the back of my Honda Odessey for about $15.00 (1/2 yard) and Home Depot charges $5.99 for 2 cubic feet....you figure it out. THESE GUYS ARE THE BEST!!!!! read more

If I could have given zero stars, I would have. Have been a customer for 10+ years. I have never complained. Last week they shorted my load by more than half. I took pictures and called to complain. They argued and argued. Then I went and picked up the exact amount they were supposed to have delivered and took a picture. It was a joke. Not even comparable piles. I called again to talk with owner. Again an argument. Worst customer service possible. I not only will never go there again. I am telling all my fellow landscape contractors to do the same. I called a soil place close to me with poor results. Flaky, no return call, etc. Soil & sod was friendly and helpful on phone. Delivery was higher due to distance but worth it. I ordered a 50/50 mix and some wood chips. It was delivered two hours later. The driver dropped it in two neat piles exactly where I asked. The order was short about 50 square feet and I mis-measured by 100sq. Feet. When I went back they took full accountability for the 50sq feet that was short and will help me with the rest of my order.
