Lime and Basil Thai Restaurant - Crispy Catfish Salad

3.5 star Great…read morelocation. Very clean and the Al Fresco setup is really refreshing. Although the wind blowing outside made our Tom Yum soup cold really fast. Food is okay. Not the best Thai food I had but very good, especially the Tom Yum. They have huge servings so really not that pricey at all. We ordered Fresh spring rolls, Tom Yum Shrimp, Bagoong Rice and Crispy Pork Belly with salad. The vinegar dip for the complimentary crackers was so good. This would have been a 4.5 star if not for the terrible service from the lady wearing yellow (looks like she was the manager) who was ridiculously inattentive and was so consumed by her cellphone during the whole time. Our whole experience was kinda ruined by her service (or lack thereof). There was one instance where a customer from another table near us broke a glass due to the wind being so strong causing their paper bag to tip over and fall all over the table. Guess what, the lady didn't give a damn when the glass of water shattered and caused the whole place to look. She was still on her phone. Texting. In fact, when I took a picture of my wife, you can see her on the background, still on her phone. Then when we asked to bill out (she was nearest to us) and requested our food to be boxed, she just carelessly piled the plates on top of each other (two trips are for the weak mentality, read:lazy) and didn't care if the bottom of the top plate touches the clean food under it. And then when she came back she didn't even pick my credit card up! She just said "Thank you po" and handed me over the brown bag and went back to her phone. I was already so pissed and could have left without paying but I told her they haven't charged me yet. As soon as she came back with my card we left immediately and didn't look around the garden like we intended. I thought that was the last straw, but wait there's more - when we got home, the box for the Tom Yum soup was broken and was dripping all over the brown bag and in my car. Probably because she was too careless when putting the lid on. That was it for us. Maybe we are not coming back. I hate to rate a great restaurant based from on employee but the lady was a deal breaker especially when considering she seems to be the manager. One tip to the owner. Tell her to get off her mobile phone when working!

Usually not packed with a…read morelot of people, it's beautiful and almost serene - practically no walls so you can enjoy the cool breeze, a lush garden at the entrance, and comfortable seating. And the food is unmatched by any another of its cuisine. I've had my fair share of Thai over my lifetime, and none could compare to Lime and Basil's authenticity and taste. It's difficult to pinpoint which food to recommend. Try anything, and you will certainly be satisfied! Fair warning: you might linger on at this restaurant longer than you should. It's a nice break from all the hustle and bustle of the city. When booking a spontaneous trip with your family or friends to Tagaytay, head over to this place! It'll be an experience you can't ever forget, take my word for it.

Reminiscing the old time, this restaurant brings back good memories because my friends would gather…read moreand meet here for the food. The taste of Thai cuisine is the same although the portion size is smaller. The plates were chipped but I didn't mind because we were there for the food. the green curry and the pad Thai is seasoned with the right spices and toppings. Unlike other countries that ask for the spice level, the food served was as is, but you could probably request to lessen the spice or serve no nuts to avoid allergies. The 2nd floor used to be packed with guests but it is now permanently closed and used as residence or storage. We dined in the ground level, with tables and chairs of different material and design. Very homey and rustic themed dining area. Open Mondays to Saturdays from 10am to 3pm. Food is reasonably priced and highly recommend for lunch and try their Thai iced tea! No private lot for parking.

Fairly good location on the corner of the developing old-fashioned Plazuela de Iloilo building,…read morewith decent but limited parking at the back. On the suggestion of a new acquaintance, we tried it. The food. The 'thai' fried rice was hardly noticeable for flavour but did include a fried egg on the side of its small mound of cool rice. Instead of juicy and sweet, their pandan chicken was dry, overcooked and cool, and, as the bones were black, likely from old birds. Wrapped in a thin ring of dried-out pandan leaves, they charged 53p per piece, or over 200p for only 4 small pieces. Mahal! Their dried squid looked interesting but the 'fragrance' coming off it left much to be desired. To my caucasian nose, ugh. The skewered pork was cold, almost tasteless and therefore distasteful, and is best left untouched on the plate. We could only manage to eat half of it! The cooled red curried beef sauce tasted good, but with oil somewhat too spicy (hot), the tough beef only okay in flavour. I don't go into a place just to criticize, but this place is hard to describe. How about 'a sleepy yuk.' Or 'really dumb.' Or 'gotta get outa here quickly.' Or, 'a loser in a pretentious location.' Overall a let-down, but not to be surprised, as hasn't been the first time this kind of thing has happened in this and almost every pinoy city ... over and over and over again! Few restos get it that price, quantity and quality must be balanced in the mind of the owner and of discerning customers after they've set a good venue in a good location. Are pinoy to leave it up to foreign nationals to create restos that provide great food? In general, seems so! The overall decor is blandly tacky, but there are no menus in the form of printed hand-out menus or even a written menu-board over the cheap display case where horrible-looking old 'meals' in limited selection tried their best to showcase what was available. The whole place screamed 'kuripot!' (cheap). Yes, in a poor squatter area, this kind of place is common, but in the upscale-looking Plazuela such a place should not exist, as it's only 1/2 a step up from any humble back-street carinderia. And the meals are a far cry from good Thai food! As presentation in every way is bad at Peppy's, and with nothing well accomplished, we shout back at this blandly boring disappointment: 'We won't ever go back!' 'We don't recommend it to anyone!' 'And we're still looking for a good Thai resto in the city.' Next we will try Sukhumvit and Nam Prik further north on Diversion Road in Dungon and Sambag respectively (if they are still open), and Takuapa on Gustillo off Burgos in La Paz, but won't get our hopes up. Time to cook spiced dishes at home more and more often. Bye, bye, for good, Peppy!

Less than quite ordinary…read more Despite a potentially-attractive sunken location beside the highway, the food either makes us sit up and howl, or is just another let-down that wouldn't qualify for anything good in its native land. The signage is so small I've missed it 3 times on a slow drive-by looking for it: only discovered the place with periphery vision on one last swing past. Quickly pulled over and dropped in for lunch... Good sign to see the cook using a wok over open flame. Not good signs otherwise, in almost everything else: * menu restricted to only 9 items immediately puts the food into question. As well, the dated pictures shown only on top of the front counter are really faded and hardly makes one salivate. * ordered their Thai fried rice and the old standard, pad thai. And was disappointed with both dishes: - the flattened small bed of darkened rice was spiked with mildly repulsive flavours, and the shrivelled little bits of vegetables hardly helped; - the pad thai tasted like pad thai, the noodles seemed authentic, the chicken bits were okay, but the small amount was underwhelming, and some flavours were distinctly off. As the kitchen seemed dark, maybe utensils and spices used for another dish got mixed in? * prices of 60-120 pesos each are quite low to match the lack of generosity in the dishes: I'd rather spend more to get more, and if the dishes are good, take home is always a good option. But not here. * no running water in the handwashing area that doubles as a restroom. The large hand-basin was filled with murky dirty water because people likely don't get it that the little metal cup provided is to be used to sparingly rinse one's hands into the sink. Yuk! Over all, this place is somewhat disjointed and unpleasant looking. Clay bricks laying around and otherwise forming small structures mirror the questionable food emerging from the kitchen. One of the main small tables was almost overflowing with ripening mangoes, and surely could have been used for the lunch crowd mostly composed of 2-3 people. The staff was friendly enough, but that is standard everywhere in the Philippines. Once again just a drag with its mediocre whatevers. Most restos in this country serve poor food, and definitely on the downside of good. Except for Troi Oi on the Boardwalk/Esplanade, and Taiwan Shabu-Shabu at Atria, forget anything remotely approaching great! We won't ever return to Nam Prit!
