Another Japanese chain first out of NCR in the Philippines, it does a decent effort with tonkotsu…read morenoodle and rice dishes. In SM City mall, it's attractive looking in a spartan way, and offers moderate-sized soups for about 300 pesos (somewhat mahal). Ordered the minced pork meatball soup (tantan tonkotsu) with medium-sized narrow noodles that included their special shoyu sauce with sesame and chilli oils for some heat (spicy). And an ajitama (mild soft boiled egg). It came in a half-filled largish bowl that was disappointing but good for the waist, I guess. But it's a chain and the bland non-descript aftertaste attests to that. Given the smallish quantity for a pricy soup that didn't really stand out except for hotness, I can only give this first time around only 2.5 stars. My wife and I will return some day and try a couple more dishes, but I'd asked for the spiciest soup, and it and the egg disappointed. Always wanting something to hit things right, seems extremely hard to find here. For the flavour and money, try Troi Oi down and close on the Esplanade/Boardwalk area. Far more satisfying with far more choices that makes it a 5-star Vietnamese venue. Ikkoryu? Ah, although decent, just another chain failing to get flavour, quantity and price right. One of the true O.G. restaurants, in Iloilo City, is Tatoy's Manokan & Seafoods Restaurant (…read more@tatoysiloilo). It's been around for so long, that my family knows to gather here, at least one time, during our visits! Since the 1970s, they've served manokan (chicken) and seafoods! Now, they serve a huge variety of EVERYTHING! It's such a huge menu, that's when you come in, it becomes life-size and you can order directly from it, before you even get to your table! Everyone can speak English, so if anyone has questions, then the staff are willing to help. It's great! We got the Fried Native Chicken, Baked Oysters, Lumpia (egg rolls), Bihon (glass noodles chow mein), Garlic Fried Rice, Soup, Calamansi Juice and Mango Shakes! So delicious! Hope you check them out! #TatoysManokanSeafoods #IloiloCity #Philippines #localfavorite #familyfavorite #customersforlife #chicken #seafood #meat #supportlocal Instagram:: @NelzLovesIt

The price stated includes the cost of cooking to order. There is no ambiance and is brutally rustic. Come with open heart and mind--the ladies here are very sweet and cook with love. And I had not issues with sanitation--they even bring your utensils in a mug of hot water! The squid was P500 for 1/2 kg and was on the small side for sugba (grilling). It was uber fresh so I had to get some and the minimum quantity was 1/2kg and they wanted to cook it adobo style. So glad I accepted because it was stunningly delicious--that gravy was black gold and I could have devoured a mountain of rice with it! The shrimp were also pristine fresh and P250 for 1/4kg. We got them plain steamed to showcase their sweetness and snappy texture. The Talaba was cheap at P70 a platter. This is obviously their local produce and prices accordingly. Lightly steamed to open the shell, the oysters were tender, creamy, sweet with no discernible iodine or iron aftertaste. The rice served was fluffy and well cooked. Free ice water. Cash only.

We first ordered it chopped, and enjoyed the flavour as usual, but that evening we felt sick and the next day had diarrhea and felt upset big-time. About 10 days later went back to try again, warned them about food safety, and didn't let them chop it because one source of contaminated food is kids - and they were but unskilled boys in charge - we again felt mildly sick the same day, but not badly, but enough to not return. The new site is their new warehouse and mobile truck set up along the main highway in the Villa district. Take a chance if you want, but as food safety in the country is always suspect, hmmmm! You see, in the developed world, government agencies have roving public health inspectors going around making sure that food safety is a priority. But in this dirty shanty city environment, good luck. Take a chance if you want...

Anyway, the energy is good and very welcoming. It's a simple cafe but they serve more than coffee or lattes. They actually serve authentic Visayan style Filipino foods. The Visayans are also wonderful cooks and add their twists to the most popular and loved foods. They make fried foods, soups and noodles of all sorts as well. It was so nice I ate here twice during my visit here. The Bulalo is simple, not overwhelming with veggies either and the flavor is so comforting and satisfying. I also live their pancit molo. It's like wonton soup but with a different twist. I promise you you will love it too. The noodles have the nicest aroma that I couldn't resist to dig in and enjoy every bite. Their coffee is strong enough and well balanced-no need for sugar. I enjoyed my dining here with my husband and his cousins. It's a place for family and everyone else. This place is also very clean, well maintained and people come in and out nonstop. That says something, doesn't it? I highly recommend when you come to visit Iloilo. The only thing that it doesn't have is a restroom but there is one around the corner outside this cafe. Finally, they also serve the best dessert I tried-palitaw is what I know it's called in Manila and the other one I really enjoyed is the Kalamazoo-hati (sweet rice cooked in brown sugar and coconut milk. (I'm almost sure) Live this place I can't wait to come back in January 2023.

It's been very hard to find a great tasting Italian restaurant. I'm not comparing it with the US, but comparing it with the other Philippines restaurants. I found their food very authentic and tasty. Definitely a taste that I've been missing. We have been their at least 10 times trying something new each time since I live part time in Iloilo. Their staff is very friendly and accommodating. Not sure how to rate this place…read more.. Last times there had their good pizza even if flavours tend to be mild. Their 'spicy' is not very hot, but their suppliers supposedly ship in from a few developed countries. Over the past year or so, we've also like the somewhat oddly-flavoured mawi-mawi fish, and have been disappointed by the fatty strip-cut non-ribeye steak advertised as ribeye (1600p), and then the badly-burned tasteless non-lobster crayfish advertised as lobster (1700p). Prices are too high for the quality of output from the kitchen, and their take-out bread prices, supposedly baked with different ingredients and weight, unreasonably hiked from 250p/large heavy loaf to 450p for same large heavy loaf. Gotta say something. Only the pizza with its decent crust and quality safe meats (but tasteless tomato base) and baked fish stand the test. I can be so expectant over the food in this country, but the best food in the country is still in Malate/Ermita and Makati districts in Manila, but few are ravingly worth getting excited about. Yes, the quality of food overall everywhere is going down - just as societies soften toward lawlessness - but stick to the bigger North American cities and Europe, and even then, be selective. Otherwise, in the third-world, be aware, ask around, check out reviews, and hope for the best. Putting on airs about one's this and that doesn't cut it when the food that emerges from the cooks is NOT compatible with what's on the menu: no excuses allowed! The young Italian who manages Guiseppe's here and in Lapu-Lapu has told us to go get money or replacement for the 'lobster,' hasn't been told about their fake ribeye, but he's no longer trustworthy. Half a dozen times apologized 'sorry,' but this not the first time we've felt shafted by him. Unless your taste is in the soles of your feet ...
